I am making an auction system using C#, .NET and MS SQL Server.
I have a page to add new products to DB, which works fine.
What I like to have is that, I want to be able to show friendly confirmation and error messages to users.
So it is going to work like this:
- user adds a new product
- if successful there is a message on the page that reads: The products (product name) was successfully added to the database. And form fields are clear, ready for the next product info to be entered.
- if not successful, the message should tell the user and maybe indicates the reason too. Like: the product code used already exists.
Currently for the successful attempts I get the form page with all the fields filled with the entered data and for un-successful one the ASP.NET error page.
Can anybody help please? Does anybody knows about a tutorial or an article or ...?
I'm developing a database-driven program using SQL server 2000 and Visual Basic 2005.
Most of the guys say professional programming is doing the validation stuff (such as the constraints and data integrity stuff like" [0-9][1] " and the use of LIKE IN keywords etc.) in the databse itself.
say i did the data validation contraints in SQL server itself. and now i connect the database with the interface made in 2005. and say a person enters some invalid data through the interface. but the error messages are generated by SQL server. how am i to display the SQL server generated error messages in the VB made interface??
PLS HELP ME .. if the question is not clear pls tell so that i can explain it further.

I want to select all threads even though the count(Messages.TitleID) is zero.. Is like when u start a new thread with no messages currently posted. How can i modify the codes to do it?SELECT Thread.ThreadTitle, COUNT(Messages.TitleID) AS NoOfMessage, Thread.ThreadID FROM (Thread INNER JOIN Messages ON Thread.ThreadID = Messages.ThreadID) GROUP BY Thread.ThreadTitle, Thread.ThreadID
I have spent days searching the web and forums for an answer to this simple question and cannot find an example.
I have built a service broker application on sql server 2005. The application puts some xml on an incoming queue which is basically a few parameters to be used in a query. This queue will then call a stored proc which does some business logic and puts the resulting results in another queue also in xml.
I have written a test harness in SQL to put messages on the inbound queue and then some sql to retrieve the returned code from the outbound queue.
What I want to do is be able to convert the SQL which does this into .net code to be used by an application. i.e. write in .net some code to put xml on a queue and then write some .net code to retrieve xml from another queue.
I wouldn't have thought this would be a difficult thing to do and would have been done hundreds of times, but unable to find anything to simply send and retrieve XML to service broker queues....
thanks for your help.. its really needed. I found some links, but they are really vague and often doing select statments in service broker or something like this. I don't want to call any sql, just send and recieve XML on the queues.
any example code that does this, would be really helpfull
I was wondering if anybody knows where to get a complete list of SQL Server error messages. I am writing a stored procedure that scans SQL Server Logs for errors and if there are errors in the logs, I get paged.
HI! i need to grab the "server message" from sql server when i execute a sql script. i would retrive all messages , 'print' output too in order to put the messages into a textbox.
We have recently upgraded our SQL Express 2005 server, to SQL Server Standard 2005.
It refused to install a new default instance during install, so i upgraded the SQLEXPRESS instance instead. Im now trying to install Microsoft CRM but when it tries to connect to the SQL server get the following error:
"Setup was unable to verify that the SQL Server Agent (SQLSERVERAGENT) was running."
"[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied."
"Microsoft SQL Server Reporting Services
[DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (Connect ()).]SQL Server does not exist or access denied."
As far as i can tell, the problem is that when we upgraded, the pipe(?) or sql service name(?) (im not an SQL expert,so unsure of what to call things at this stage!!) is SQLEXPRESS instead of SQLSERVERAGENT. Is there a way of changing what the install routing is expecting? or a way of renaming this within SQL?
I am getting following messages in sqlagent.out. Can anyone help me understand what does these mean.. and what can i do for them?

I was wondering if anybody knows where to get a complete list of SQL Server error messages. I am writing a stored procedure that scans SQL Server Logs for errors and if there are errors in the logs, I get paged.
I am using Reporting services through web services using the SOAP API. The problem I am facing is for any errors that occur the messages are getting displayed more than once.
For example : while rendering a report(which takes a parameter) if the parameter is not passed the same error message is displayed thrice.
"This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'Num_RP_1'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value. ---> This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'Num_RP_1'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value. ---> This report requires a default or user-defined value for the report parameter 'Num_RP_1'. To run or subscribe to this report, you must provide a parameter value."
while calling listChildren() method if the folderpath passed is a non existing one then the same error message is displayed twice.
"The path of the item '/SomeNonExistantPath/' is not valid. The full path must be less than 260 characters long; other restrictions apply. If the report server is in native mode, the path must start with slash. ---> The path of the item '/SomeNonExistantPath/' is not valid. The full path must be less than 260 characters long; other restrictions apply. If the report server is in native mode, the path must start with slash."
1. Why some messages are displayed twice and some are displayed thrice ?
2. Is there any way to get the error message only once ?
I am trying to send messages between 2 different server instances. I am getting the following errors in Profiler:
"This message could not be delivered because the user with ID 0 in database ID 14 does not have permission to send to the service. Service name: 'TestService1'."
"The target service name could not be found. Ensure that the service name is specified correctly and/or the routing information has been supplied."
The scripts for object creation and messaging is following at the first server instance:
USE master GO CREATE ENDPOINT SBroker STATE = STARTED AS TCP ( LISTENER_PORT = 1212 ) FOR SERVICE_BROKER ( ENCRYPTION = DISABLED ); GO
USE Test GO CREATE QUEUE TestQueue WITH STATUS=ON

SEND ON CONVERSATION @dh MESSAGE TYPE [DEFAULT] ('this is message1');
DECLARE @status nvarchar(1024); SELECT status = GET_TRANSMISSION_STATUS(@dh);
END CONVERSATION @dh;
on second server instance:
use master GO CREATE ENDPOINT SBroker2 STATE = STARTED AS TCP ( LISTENER_PORT = 1212 ) FOR SERVICE_BROKER ( ENCRYPTION = DISABLED ); GO
in first server, in sys.transmission_queue transmission_status is empty

I have installed Sp1 for Sql Server 2005 I also received "locked files" and "reboot required". These errors I can find on all forums and do not worry me anymore. However i still would like to know more about the messages in the log files.
- What does this mean: "Failed to read associated hotfix build information for the following file"...... - What does this men: "Failed to read version information for the following file".........
- Why are some products NOT APPLIED, while in the other log file it says "SUCCES" for the same product? These beneath the 2 log files.
Hi im finalizing a site for a custmer and now adding a Tell a friend function. I have done those before but not when storing the mailmessage in the SQL server and my question is How do I build this up in a good way...I have done the mailsender and its sends the email but how do I bind it together... I have two columns comming in a single row dataset from the Database: MailSubjectMailBody I dont want to bind it to a gridview or another control and then fetch that to my mail message Public Function TellaFriend(ByVal strEmail As String, ByVal strMyName As String, ByVal cultureid As Integer) As String 'Tell a friend Dim Data As DAL Data = New DAL Dim dsEmail As DataSet = Data.GetEmailMessage(1, cultureid) MyMailMessage. From = New MailAddress(info@company.com, "Customer Service") MyMailMessage.To.Add(New MailAddress(strEmail, "Hint from a friend" & strMyName)) MyMailMessage.Subject = dsEmail("MailSubject") MyMailMessage.IsBodyHtml = False MyMailMessage.Body = dsEmail("MailBody") 'Create the SMTPClient object and DO NOT specify the SMTP server name Dim SMTPServer As New SmtpClient() Dim MailSent As String Try SMTPServer.Send(MyMailMessage) MailSent = "True" Catch ex As SmtpException MailSent = "False" End Try Return MailSentEnd Function Of course this doesnt work but what do I need to do to bind Data.GetEmailMessage(1, cultureid) without using a gridview or any other datapresentation control directly in this function? If you need it this is from my DALFunction GetEmailMessage(ByVal intMessageId As Integer, ByVal intCultureId As Integer) As DataSet Dim DS As DataSetDim objConn As SqlConnectionDim objCmd As SqlDataAdapter objConn = New SqlConnection(_connStr)objCmd = New SqlDataAdapter("sp_GetEmailMessage", objConn)objCmd.SelectCommand.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedureobjCmd.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@messageid", SqlDbType.Int))objCmd.SelectCommand.Parameters("@messageid").Value = intMessageIdobjCmd.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlParameter("@cultureid", SqlDbType.Int))objCmd.SelectCommand.Parameters("@cultureid").Value = intCultureIdDS = New DataSet()objCmd.Fill(DS, "dsMailMessage")Return DSEnd FunctionThanks,
I am getting a new server online at a customer, and our system shows very funny erorrs under full load. No explanations could be found. Anyone has some? Here we go: Server failed to resume the transaction, desc: 360000054a. The transaction active in this session has been committed or aborted by another session., at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery() and New request is not allowed to start because it should come with valid transaction descriptor. System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException I am a little lost on those. Simple fact is that I do not find any description of those. Anyone an idea what causes these?
Hi, To be more clear. My problem is : 1) I launched the stataments behing via sql server studio : Use AutClust GO SET NOCOUNT ON; Set statistics IO ON GO select * FROM table_1; Go Set statistics IO OFF GO
2) I have then obtained in tab message the result displayed in text format in tab messages : Table 'table_1'. Scan count 1, logical reads 490, physical reads 0, read-ahead reads 0, lob logical reads 0, lob physical reads 0, lob read-ahead reads 0.
The objective is to implement those statements in a stored procedure that will be able to recover in automatic manner the content of tab messages. This text is a system response connected to the statements above. I think that exist a system variable which contain the result displayed in tab messages.
I tried tu use @@rowcount it deos not work because this system variable return number of row affacted by last statement.
Does it exist another system variable that could contain the text which is in tab messages?
I do need a solution for this problem. Please bring me your help.
Two days ago I discovered that the drive on our test SqlServer2005 was full. The current Error_log had 54+ Gb (yes Gb) of records. Not only did I delete the file I restarted SS and the server.
That afternoon, I discovered that the current log had 33,678 records! I believe 33,616 of the records came from a single run of my app and set of program events. Obviously I'm doing something wrong in my Query Notification implementation and testing. And yet, when I try to to deliberately trigger the phenomenon, I can not.
Here is the head of the exported log file; the two msgs (query dialog closed and cannot drop queue) alternate thousands and thousands of times form a single test run. What is going on?! Pls help!

Hi, I execute a query via queries editor embedded in sql srver studio.then i have query result in results tab and a text message in tab messages. Does it exist a T-SQL sys global variable as of i could to retrieve the text message that is displayed in tab messages?

I make web application that use sql server 2005 dtatabase. In application i receive exception messages only on english. I use formview control to edit data in tables. On event item updated, item deleted and item updated I process e.messages to show users some error manipulating with data.
Phrase as is
The DELETE statement conflicted with the REFERENCE constraint "FK_preduzeca_zsistem". The conflict occurred in database "zaoka", table "dbo.preduzeca", column 'brsist'. The statement has been terminated.
my users do'nt understand.
How to localize exception messageg that receive sql server 2005.
after restoring a database and regenerating keys, I'm trying to queue messages, and they're all hanging out in sys.transmission_queue with the following message:
I have a view that retrieves the details for sys.messages in SQL Server Express and noticed that the language ID is 1033 (U.S. English). I will need French and Portuguese, and understand that these are standard. Is there a set of DDL Scripts that will install the sys.messages for these languages?
I am writting a huge Service Broker Application. I notice that each message that is processed appears in the SQL Server Logs. Currently I am just testing with a single queue and tons of messages are showing up in the log. Is there a way that I can turn these informational messages off? I think in the end I may have something like 15 or 20 queues. These messages are very useful for debugging but I may not desire this extensive logging to be running all the time on all of my queues.
Used to work fine: (windows 200 server, sql server 2000, JDBC driver SP2.) Two java processes, one sending messages (using jdbc and sql as temp storage), second is receiving and placing on msmq.
After installing SP3a for SQL server, under high load (200 a sec) there are missing messages in msmq. Installed everything from scratch on separate machine, works fine until SP3a is applied. Any help is highly appreciated

I set-up my Service Broker comunication on the same SQL Server Instance beetween 2 different DBs.
One DB behave as Initiator and send messages to the SB service setup in the other DB.
I execute the SEND statement from the Initiator and if I count the messages on the sys.transmission_queue before to commit the transaction the count returns 0.
If I try to send a message not compliant with the message type, the count that runs after the SEND returns 1 - far enought.
I'm confused about the first behaviour because from what I understood the Acknolodgment and the removal of the message from the sys.trasmission queue should happen after the COMMIT.
I have a procedure where after processing, i am required to send multiple message to calling application.
For ex:
create procedure test as (@a as int, @b as int @c as int ) /* some transformations */ print 'variable a is' + @a; print 'variable b is' + @b; print 'variable c is' + @c;
I am only providing a sample of return messages, but in reality there a lot more messages where a string and a parameter value need to concatenated.Unfortunately print is not allowing to concatenate parameter value.I can use RaiseError, but these messages are not really any error messages.
i tried to concatenate all message and output it using OUT type parameter, but the length of all messages combined exceeds 10000 characters.
Is there any other alternate to send these messages out to application?
Some T-SQL commands can fail with multiple errors. For example, if you try to disable a primary key constraint using ALTER TABLE t1 NOCHECK CONSTRAINT PK, you will get messages like:
Msg 11415, Level 16, State 1, Line 341 Object 'PK' cannot be disabled or enabled. This action applies only to foreign key and check constraints. Msg 4916, Level 16, State 0, Line 341 Could not enable or disable the constraint. See previous errors.
However, in the code below, only the last message is printed. How can I print all the error messages?
USE tempdb; CREATE TABLE #t1(c1 INT CONSTRAINT PK PRIMARY KEY); BEGIN TRY ALTER TABLE #t1 NOCHECK CONSTRAINT PK; PRINT 'Primary key disabled' END TRY BEGIN CATCH PRINT ERROR_MESSAGE(); END CATCH
Wanted to check if there's any option to suppress message after the database backup statement is run like we have in dbcc checkdb by using NO_INFOMSGS?

I have a SQL2008 database, running Standard Edition 64-bit, database owns by sa, connected to Management Studio using Windows Authentication mode. When I tried to generate scripts from a database, I got the following error messages:-
[Operation is not valid due to the current state of the object. (SqlManagerUI)]
which happened at one particular table. I have reviewed this table definitions are normal, and I could select data from it.
I couldn't find any information anywhere relating to this error messages, except that someone got it when they were trying to change the authentication mode or sa password.
