I'm using SQL Server 2000.
I have a variable which contains the name of another variable scoped in my stored procedure. I need to get the value of that other variable, namely:

I'm trying to create a custom data flow transformation, I need to set the value of a user variable which will be used by a downstream component(for example: a data flow destination) at runtime, is this possible? If possible, in which method should I do that? Thanks.

For the above given sample data I am having two outputs at Condition Split (based on the recordtype). I want to store the 1st record datetime value into a variable and then I want to use that variable value into 2nd and 3rd row.
Basically, detailed records would be stored into the database not the header record. Is there any way I can use the variable while doing processing for 2nd and 3rd records.
Please suggest me.

I have a number of DTS packages I am trying to convert and am totally new to Integration Services.
I have a flat file that I reference to get a date that I use in some SQL statements in the package. It seems like the best way to do this would be to create a variable to hold the date and set it at run time from the flat file. I've been searching the documentation and the forum and can't figure out how to do this. This is so basic that I feel like an idiot putting it on the forum but I need some help. This whole Integration Services thing is a big shift from DTS (which I eventually became pretty good at) Now I'm back to ground zero.
Any help would be appreciated. If you can direct me to any basic training resources that would be cool too.

The question:
Can I design data flows with an XML Source pointing to file system xml files, and but run them against variables? I can see the properties at design time (Accessmode=0,1,2; XMLDataVar="User::XMLData), but the XMLSource object doesn't appear to have expressions enabled to change this at runtime, nor do these properties seem to be exposed to configurations.
The scenario:
I have a package that reads through (potentially thousands) of XML files, and having identified the embedded message "type", transforms them via XSLT to an easier XML format (XML Datasource can't cope well with multiple namespaces etc). Then send this the new file off to a type specific dataflow task to send contents to database.
For performance (and other) reasons I'd rather XSLT to a single shared variable and use this variable as the XML source in the data flows (Rather than writing out to the filesystem [via xslt] and immediately reading it back in each time [via datasource]).
But designing the data flow task using a variable as xml source is frustrating for a bunch of reasons - not the least being:
(a) The variable needs to be populated with sample xml data at design time. But this could only ever match one dataflow at a time (fine at run time, but painful at designtime - leading to validation errors popping up all around the place.)
Yes I could have a seperate variable for each xmlsource - but that just makes things more complicated up front and also leaves me with 20+ large, type specific, xml variables floating around at runtime of which only one is ever being used per import - which just doesn't feel right to me.
(b) populating the variable with sample xml at design time is painful due to it being a string - and not accepting hard returns etc that are in text files, design time changes etc)
Using a file XML source at design time is infinitely easier, when I get a design time change - I can just amend the XSLT and run the appropriate task to produce a sample XML file to design against.
Any ideas?

I need to pass a variable to get source data from Oracle on OLE DB source. The variable is defined by an Execute SQL task (previous step) on the control flow and it is a package level variable.
In the data flow, OLE DB source using €˜SQL command from variable€™. The variable sql command works when it just: Select *from table
But I need the variable SQL command like this:
Select * from table where last_modified_date > ? - - variable1
the variable1 is defined by anther Execute SQL task at runtime
Can someone give some light on this?

I have a report that has three parameters. View, Tier and Manager. The View parameter has 3 possible choices: Company, Manager and Tier. If the user selects Company then they cannot select anything in the other two parameters. If the user selects Manager from the View parameter then they can only select something for the Manager parameter. Likewise, if they choose Tier from the View parameter they can only select something for the Tier parameter.
This is all working like I want it and provides the desired results. However, if a user selects Tier for the View parameter and then doesn't select anything for the Tier parameter it is just like selecting Company from the View parameter. What I'd like to do is have error checking so that if they do choose Tier from the View parameter and then try and run the report and Tier is still null have it indicate that they have to choose a tier.
To get the first part of this to work I had to create datasets that contained just a null and then default Manager and Tier to that dataset. Choosing the default of Null in the parameter set up didn't work.
I think the error checking could look something like this:
=IIf(Parameters!View.Value = "Tier" AND IsNothing(Parameters!tier.Value) , "Must Select Tier", Parameters!tier.Value)
Now, I just need to know where to put it. Is there something that it will look at before generating the report to check the values of parameters. Maybe like the NoRows property when no rows are returned?

My scenario:
I am using a FTP Connection Manager and the configuration setting for it is being set in the package configuration xml file. So the xml file contains the Ftpserver, FTp server username and password. The package is picking up the values from the xml file and is executing successfully. I have to do this because I was not able to provide an expression to the Connection Manager Server Password property.
Now, I want to pick up the ftp details from a database table and set it in the xml file during runtime. Is this possible? OR something like using the
<Configuration ConfiguredType="Property" Path="Package.Connections[FTP Connection Manager].Properties[ServerPassword]" ValueType="Variable"><ConfiguredValue>@[user::FtpPassword]</ConfiguredValue></Configuration>
Kindly look at the items in bold. Is this possible? Then I can set the value of the variable in the package before the FTP connection manager task is executed.

I have a parameter which should take multiple values into it and pass that to the code that i use. For, this i created a parameter and temporarily for testing i am passing some values into it.Using a dynamic SQL i am converting multiple values into multiple records as rows into another variable (called @QUERY). My question is, how to insert the values from variable into a table (table variable or temp table or CTE).OR Is there any way to parse the multiple values into a table. like if we pass multiple values into a parameter. those should go into a table as rows.
Is there a way in rs to have a textbox more than the first value when it is dragged on the rs form when creating a report? currently when I drag a text box on the rs form, it only shows the first record on a page/form. There are twenty records on the table where the first value came from. How can I make so that twenty text boxes representing twenty records appear on twenty different pages. In other words, I am trying to build a report with a non - tabular structure that can repeat on different pages.

I made a number of dimension and calculated member mods and notice that all now no base or calculated measures display values, they just show blanks in the browser and query window. To try to isolate, I've
(1) removed every dimension and calculated member
(2) verified there are no defaultmembers for dimensions
(3) verified there are no dimension attributes set to IsAggregatable = False
(4) verified there are no deploy or script errors
(5) fully processed every dm and fact
(6) verified there are dim and claim records loaded with values in all appropriate columns
When I process the cube, it shows that rows are read, etc... All that looks normal. Just when I browse or query, all measures display as blanks or nulls.
What could cause this behavior? Any ideas on how to futher isolate? I can go to a backup but very concerned that this can happen with no error messages or warnings, so I want to find the cause.

I am editing a pre-existing view.This view is already bringing data from 40+ tables so I am to modify itwithout screwing with anything else that is already in there.I need to (left) join it with a new table that lists deposits and thedates they are due. What I need is to print, for each record in theview, the due date for the next deposit due and the total of allpayments that they will have made by the next due date.So this is how things are. I've designed a report and assigned it a datasource that binds with a SP with a parameter. In the XML code of the dataset I can see the input parameter has been recognised by the wizard. Then, I built a report with that Dataset as the source. Everything is fine till this time. Now through my aspx code I pass on the value of the parameter to the report. But the report doesn't show any values at all. The aspx code is like

I want to show 0, if the field contains NULL values.
I use the following expression.
=IIf(Fields!MTD_TotGrossBKCOAmt.Value = "NULL" , SUM(Fields!MTD_TotGrossBKCOAmt.Value), 0 )
But this works if the field contains only NULL values.
If it has a value, then it shows as #Error
Can anyone tell me how to make this work?

The below stored procedure is used to create a vertical benchmark line on the X-Axis which has a hour scale. I use the stored procedure to find out which temperature crosses or equals the threshold temperature (340), then plot the vertical benchmark line at the hour the first temperature is equal to or greater than 340 degrees and less than 1000 degrees.
The logic below works if the temperature is equal to or greater than 340 degrees and less than 1000 degrees. THE ISSUE is I have 8 temperatures if they don't cross the threshold of 340 degrees I need to set a default value for my vertical line. In other words if the temperature is 180 and my threshold is 340 then set my vertical line on the highest temperature close to 340.
I tried removing my Where clause (but then it breaks the logic for those temperatures that are equal to or greater than 340). I tried using Case When but this didn't give me what I want either. I tried UNION as well. All giving me results I don't want.
Here is what I am looking for:
This first example is one where there was a temperature that was equal to or greater than the threshold of 340 degrees. This is CORRECT

If a button is never clicked in a given month, it never gets logged to the table. In this example, the 5th button was not clicked during the month of December, so it does not appear in the results. I want to modify my query so it displays the name of the button and a zero (in this case "5th Button 0") in the results for any buttons that were not clicked. For some reason I am drawing a blank on how to do this. Thanks in advance.

I've a table which contains a record for each day an employee is employed:In the cube I've create a measure which is a sum of the field "Employed" which provides me the number of employees that are employed for a given date (lowest level of my time dimensions which are YEAR-MONTH-DATE)The problem is that the number aggregating on YEAR and MONTH which provides me with wrong figures at these levels - So how can create a calculated measure (maybe with Scope) that only show the Ultimo Numbers at the lowest level when I am browsing on the Month or Year level. For example if I am on the Year level I only want it to sum on the date 31-12-xxxx and if I'm at the month level(for example July 2012) it should show me the sum of 31-07-2012 which are the last level for the given month.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a report that has 2 dropdowns, selecting from the first dropdown populates the second one. This works fine in the BI Studio.
When I deploy this report to the 'Report Manager' and make a selection from the first dropdown, the second dropdown loads (as expected). I tried to select from the second dropdown (which has only 1 item - which is correct), the dropdown does not appear correctly - as in, I can't see that item.
Since we can't attach anything here, below is the link to a screenshot of my issue:

If you look closely at the screenshot from the link above, you'll see that there is a value in the second dropdown - it just won't show completely - as if the dropdown is not rendering correctly. I can view source on the page and see that the dropdown has a value.
What appears to be happening is the if only 1 item is in the second dropdown and that item is longer than the size of the dropdown, the dropdown won't render.
Here is my value for the second dropdown '012 Candy Gadler David Thapero'. This is the only value in the second dropdown. - You can try 35 chars or more in the dropdown to confirm.
Notes:
+ No special chars are in either dropdown
+ I am using IE 7 (Also had someone test this on IE 6 - same problem)
+ Using Visual Studio 2005 to build report - where this works fine
Work around:
+ If I add another item to the dropdown via a UNION query, I see the original value + the new item in the dropdown #2

ok, I am on Day 2 of being brain dead.I have a database with a table with 2 varchar(25) columns I have a btton click event that gets the value of the userName, and a text box.I NEED to insert a new row in a sql database, with the 2 variables.Ive used a sqldatasource object, and tried to midify the insert parameters, tried to set it at the button click event, and NOTHING is working. in my table i ve the column of item code which contains '1000' ,'2000' ,'3000' series i jus wanna display the output of item codes '1000','2000'series and some of ('3000019','3000020','3000077','3000078').
i tried in my join query
these code left(itemcode,4) in ('1000','2000') or itemcode in ('3000019','3000020','3000077','3000078')
its taking so much of time how t o solve ?
I created a query that got the following result. But I expect to get the structure like, care_nbr, cust_nbr,legal_name, address_type=physical address, addr_line_1, addr_line_2, address_type-primary address, ddr_line_1, addr_line_2. That means I only need primary and physical address, and expect them to show in a row to each care_nbr. How to perform that?
