I want to refer in a table quotes to customers and itemes from another table.
here is my table list in database:
"Customers"
"PriceList"
I want to create another table which through it I can create qoutes for customers suing a collection of items in PriceList table.
for example I want to be able to create something like this:
Title:
my quote example
QuoteID:
46543
Items (retrieved from PriceList table):
370
474
456
belongsTo (a relation to CustomerID in Cstomers table):
6234876
Discount, Date, WrittenBy, etc.
how many tables do I have to use for it, and what queries I have to write, and do I have to create any special relationships?
I have a list of customers in my Customers table. What I am looking to do is to create QR codes for each customer in Reporting Services. I need to include the customer name, address, postcode, telephone number and contact name.
I am trying to link my ORDERS table to my CUSTOMERS table. The Primary key in the CUSTOMERS table is a UNIQUEIDENT. The foreign key it is linking to is an INT.
When I run a query in ACCESS, it says type mismatch....
I have a table with orders and customer info. I want to retrieve only customers with new orders only. These are the available fields: customer Id, Order Id, Order Date, and Order Subtotal. I need help with the "where" section of the query.
I want to build a silent setup/installation of MS-SQL-Server-Express 2005 for installation on customers computers. I want to integrate it in my own setup/installation routine of my application. How can I do that? Where can I get Infos or tutorials? Perhaps here ?
Hi all, I want to do SQLCLR by Connecting to SQL Express User Instances in Management Studio via VB 2005 Express and I have read the following articles and books: (i) Connecting to SQL Express User Instances in Management Studio in http://blogs.msdn.com/sqlexpress/archive/2006/11/22/connecting-to-sql-express-user-insta... (ii) Managing SQL Server Express with SQL Server 2005 Management Studio Express Edition in http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sql/2005/mgsqlexpwssmse.mspx (iii) Chapter 16 - Going Beyand Transact-SQL: Using the SQL Common Language Rutime (SQLCLR) in Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition for Dummies (iv) Chapter 21 - Working with the Common Language Runtime in Microsft SQL Server 2005 Programming for Dummies (v) Chapter 4 - Introduction to Common Language Runtime (CLR) Integration in Programming SQL Server 2005 by Bill Hamilton. I want to create an SQLCLR project "HelloWorld" by Connecting to SQL Express User Instances in Management Studio via VB 2005 Express. But I am still not sure how to get it started, because I do not understand the following things: (1) Pipe Name for a User Instance, (2) Enabling (or Disabling) the CLR by using Transact-SQL, (3) Creating a Transact-SQL script, (4) Creating an Assembly, (5) Creating a backup device, etc. I need to see some simple examples of SQLCLR by Connecting to SQL Express User Instances in Management Studio via VB 2005 Express. Please help and tell me where in the websites I can find them.

I have made a simple application with VB6 and SQL 2005 Express.
And after testing it in a network simulated with Virtual-Machine Workstation, the "real world" application was first getting slower and slower, and finally giving timeout errors.
It is even difficult to connect. The application times out always at 30 secs although the ado connection timeout was established longer (45)
I have checked on the machine where the server is installed, just in case the slow down was due to network problems, but it fail locally too.
What I have now: Machine with 8 cores and 8 scheduled jobs running every minute to check if there is new row in one queue table (rows assigned to queues/job by using modulus 8 on identity column).
The scheduled jobs run an stored procedure, that filter "its own" rows from queue table (scheduled jobs sends input parameter to proc, so proc can identify which queue it is).
Inside the proc an dynamic, local cursor is used where I order-by on column corresponding to source of request, since some peoples requests are more important than others ;^) Every queue handles more rows at once if exists.
This gives me 8 paralell queues, but since some requests take longer to handle than other I can see periods where only 4 queues running and the rest does nothing while jobs are waiting. There are probably other drawbacks, please tell me.
How to solve this with Service Broker? Do you know some good links with examples? Can SB support the need of ordering? It should not be first in - first out, it should be: most important first...
I have set up a 'Parameters' table that solely stores all pre-assigned selection values for a webform. I customized a stored query to Select the values from the Parameters table. I set up the webform. The result is that the form1.apsx automatically populates each DropDownList task with the pre-assigned values from the 'Parameters' table (for example, the stored values in the 'Parameters' table 'Home', 'Business', and 'Other' populate the drop down list for 'Type'). The programming to move the selected data from form1.aspx to a new table in the SQL database perplexes me. If possible, I would like to use the form1.aspx to Postback (or Insert) the "selected" data to a *new* column in a *new* table (such as writing the data to the 'CustomerType' column in the 'Customers' table; I clearly do not want to write back to the 'Parameters' table). Any help to get over this hurdle would be deeply appreciated.
Hi, I'm trying to create a resultset with the top 100 customers for the year (based on this year's sales) and for each of these customers, to return 5 top items and their corresponding sales dollars, as well as percentage of total sales achieved by each item. What I'm struggling with is how to return specifically 5 sales items per customer. If I use a temp table or a correlated subquery, what is the exact syntax to use? Any advice will be appreciated. Thanks all :)
I have a customer who has a Win SBS 2003 Premium installation with a Win 2003 Standard member server running SQL 2000 housing a Practice Management App.
The new release of the Practice Management App only runs on SQL 2005.
My question is what are my options for obtaining SQL 2005 in the most cost effective way? The SBS Premium install was not a candidate for the 'free' upgrade to R2. Is there an 'upgrade' release of SQL 2005 for existing SBS Premium customers?
I've been writing this stuff for a while, and can't seem to come to the conclusion of how I should be retrieving data and assigning this data to variables.
Since i'm using SQL Server, I'm convinced that I should be using the datareaders GetSqlDouble (or whatever) function, but this would mean i need my local variables to be one of the SQL types. The problem with that is, that there will have to be lots of conversions done by me to be able to use a SQL type in my application.
For instance, I have a class where i'm retrieving dates. In order to retrieve them correctly (Null values included), I need to retrieve them with GetSqlDateTime(), then when it comes time to display the date in a table, i must first check for nulls, then convert to a string. This seems to be very cumbersome. Would I be better off just using GetDateTime(), and the .ToString method, and ignoring Sql Types all together?
so, basically, how are you guys using your sql server data? with the supplied sql types, and doing all of the post-processing work manually? I feel like i'm having trouble conveying my issue...hopefully someone knows what i mean....i'd just like some direction to save trouble in the long run, since i feel like there's got to be a better way...
Hopefully I am posting this question in the correct forum. I am still learning about SQL 2005. Here is my issue. I have an access db that I archive weekly into and SQL server table. I have used the dst wizard to create an import job and initally that worked fine. field I have as the primary key in the access db cannot be the primary key in the sql table since I archive weekly and that primary key field will be imported several time over. I overcame this initally by not having a primary key in the sql table. This table is strictly for reference. However, now I need to setup a unique field for each of the records in the sql table. What I have done so far is create a recordID field in the sql table that is an int and set as yes to Identify (auotnumber). That worked great and created unique id for all existing records. The problem now is on the import. When I try to import the access table i am getting an error because of the extra field in the sql table, and the error is saying cannot import null value into this field. So... my final question is how can I import the access table into the sql table with one extra field which is the autonumber unique field? Thanks a bunch for any asistance.
Another Newbie here...sorry if this is an easy question: How do I extract Table Properties (field names, type, length, PK/FK) from multiple tables and into an Excel spreadsheet?
Hi,Handling # table is giving problem.Does anybody have solution/suggestion for the below given problem.Create a #TMPTAB table------------------------SELECT GETDATE() MYDATE INTO #TMPTABSelect #TMPTAB Table-----------------SELECT NAME FROM TEMPDB..sysobjects where name ='#TMPTAB'ORSELECT NAME FROM sysobjects where name ='#TMPTAB'-----------------------It does not return the record.(Because SQL Server create # table with an system generated unique IDin Name like (#TMPTAB________________________________000000011F 8F))---------------But if I select it with Like clause:SELECT NAME FROM TEMPDB..sysobjects where name ='#TMPTAB'It return the name:#TMPTAB________________________________000000011F8 FWhen I drop the table it canbe drop withDROP TABLE #TMPTAB(EVEN IF I'M USING SOME OTHER DATA BASE 'XDATABASE')NOW THE PROBLEM IS:====================IF I CHECK TABLE WITH LIKE CLAUSE IT WILL RETURN ME ALL # TABLE, WHICHHAS BEEN CREATED IN TEMPDB.. DATABASE BY DIFFERENT USER/CLIENT).IN A SCENERIO WHERE A PARTICULAR CONNECTION DOES NOT HAVE MADE ANY #TABLE, BUT IT HAS MADE FROM SOME ANOTHER INSTANCE.IF I SEARCH TABLE WITH LIKE CLAUSE (SELECT NAME FROMTEMPDB..sysobjects where name ='#TMPTAB'), IT WILL RETURN TRUE ANDTHEN AT THE TIME OF DROPPING TABLE IT WILL RETURN ERROR.WHY THIS HAPPEN?DOES ANYBODY HAVE SOME SOLUTION/SUGGETION ON IT.THANKS IN ADV.T.S.NEGIJoin Bytes!
I'm thinking of storing a lot of images, Word documetns, PDF, and emails as media in SQL Server 2005. Is it equiped to handle a lot of media? Or is it still preferred to store media separately on a file server?
Greetings I have a scenario where a table's after insert & after update triggers write to a history table. On this particular table, the history rows are quite small, so the occassional deadlock condition is inevitable.
In SQL Server 2000, I taught the application guys to handle these kinds of exceptions themselves, sleep a second, and retry. In 2005 (and I assume 2008) we now have TRY CATCH in T/SQL.
What are the pro's and con's of catching deadlocks in your T/SQL code (triggers or sprocs) .vs. the "old way" of catching it at the application level? I'm sure this has been discussed before, but search returns a lot of unrelated postings...
I'm thinking it's better to catch this at the application level, under the assumption that it's better to make the client(s) do the work than the database, but I'm sure there are considerations I'm not taking into account here. What experiences do you folks have to share on this?
How to move some tables with data & procedures etc from 1 database to another in sql server 2005 express edition. i did by scripting but i transfer tables and procedures and not data data is the problem. tnx
Can anyone help me import a ms access (97) table into a sql 2005 express database? The sql database already contains other tables but I would like to add some of my older access tables to this database without having to re-enter all the data. Please help! Thanks!
Hi, In SQL Server 2005 Express I currently have 2 databases which I€™m working on, my problem is I want to transfer a table from one of the databases to the other but don't know how to go about achieving this? I want the table structure and all the info held within the table transferred across. Any ideas are welcome.
I'm trying to learn some VB programming with the VB 2005 Express Absolute Beginner Series video tutorials (which I think is great) and have come across a problem that I can't solve.
When I follow the instructions in Lesson 9 (Databinding Data to User Interface Controls) my application will display the data from the database correctly and I can edit it (and as long as the debugger is running the data remains changed). However, the changes won't propagate back to the database. I don't get any error messages but after I edit the data, save (with the save button on the BindingNavigator toolbar), and end debugging the data in my database remains unchanged. When I use a MessageBox to show how many rows where edited/updated in the
I get the correct number back. I'm sure the problem is not due to coding errors since I've also tried running the accompanying Lesson 9 project file that can be downloaded from MSDN and the problem persists.
I'm using Windows XP SP2, SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and VB 2005 Express Edition. I've tried installing SQL Server 2005 Express with a number of different settings, including default settings, but it doesn't make any difference.
Would greatly appreciate any feedback on this as I'm keen to resolve this problem so I can get on with the next tutorial lesson.
I have a table I am trying to create and one of the columns needs to have a decimal that appears as 00.00 and does not round because the data example is 87.09, 86.50, 98.55 etc. I have tried every type of decimal formatting when creating I can find and nothing has worked. When I create the table and upload the data it keeps rounding like this: 87.00, 87.00, 99.00
The only way it does not round is if I do it as a char but that does not seem right when dealing with numerics.
We have several jobs that if any step fails, we need to continue with the next step. Due to this we have the both 'On Success Action' and 'On Failure Action' set to 'Go to the next step'. Our only issue is that when all the steps are done we still require the job itself to fail.
So my question is this, is there anyway the status of a job can be queried to determine if any of it's steps failed?
