I want to create a new copy of data for existing subversion (say from sub version 1 to 2) in the same table. when the new data is copied my PeopleID is getting incremented and how to copy the related data in the other table (PeopleCosts Table) with the new set of PeopleIDs..

I am copying data ( ~600000 rows) using SqlBulkCopy. The operation fails after copying 390000 rows with the follwoing exception ( this happens every time when i run and after the same number of rows copied). Is anything else i need to do differently. The server has 35GB of free space & 1 GB of RAM.

I have a starnge question but i need to work out the situation that I'll describe here:
i need to replicate one row in my table to the same table but with small changes in some fileds. I mean - copy the row and to insert it again to the same table, that I copy it from, with changes in fields values.
Do you know any way i can to this - temporary table/ store procedure and so on... BUT in one shot - one action for the select and insert and update operations.

Jul 29, 2015Copy out all data from a DB table into/across delimited text file(s) ensuring that each text file size is no more than 3MB.Have created a SSIS solution where it achieves this requirement ..well sort of achieves the requirement ... Here it what the current solution (sparing the minute details) does in a nutshell & Problems with it:
1) Created a function (Script below) which finds the
maximum row size in bytes in a given DB table & uses it to calculate
how many rows can be copied out into a text file without exceeding 3MB size limit.
For instance: A DB table selected had 788 rows in total and this function for this particular table returned a value of 181 rows { select [dbo].[udf_GetRowPartitionNumber](‘<TableName>’)as #ofRowstoPartitionTableby --181} meaning in order to not exceed the requirement of 3MB per text file, we had to copy all the data from DB table across (create) 5 text files {Select

My plan was to use import/export wizard to move the data over to the new table, while set to Bulk Log recovery, drop the original table, then create the indexes/constraints on the new one.
With this much data, I'm wondering what else I should do.
Anyone have a better idea? What am I missing?

My plan is, once I move or copy the data to the new table, I will then drop the original table, rename new table to the original, create the indexes and FKs. What do you think would be the best way to move the data to the new table?

Jun 5, 2006On the OLE DB Source, I have as following:
select field1, field2, field3 from table_source
On the OLE DB Destination, I used fast load option with table lock checked, and check constraints to copy data to table_destination. Both table_source and table_destination have the same table definitions. After the dtsx package ran, the number of rows copy over to the destination is not same. I got different results from different runs. This only happens when the source table is over 1 million rows and when I'm copying from the transaction database where user's activities are heavy.
Any ideas how I can modify the package so it can copy correct data? Thanks!

Mar 11, 2015I'm a web developer who writes transact-SQL to make my web applications run properly. I'm not real strong in other areas of SQL. Let me explain our set-up and then I'll explain what I want to do:
We have an ecommerce web site and all sales are saved in a SQL Server 2008 R2 database at our hosting company. We also have a local Windows 2012 network that has SQL Server 2014 Express installed.
Here is what I want to do:
I want to copy sales rows from the SQL Server 2008 database at our hosting company and save them in the SQL Server 2014 Express database on our local Windows 2012 server. I'd like to automate this if possible so that it happens each night perhaps. I know there is a way to schedule SQL jobs but I've never actually done this. I also would need to know how to attach to our hosting company DB as well as our local network DB.

SELECT 0.172 * (365 / (90 + 91)) * 1.26 AS test1
, (0.172 * 365) / (90 + 91) * 1.26 AS test2
, 0.172 / ((90 + 91) / 365) * 1.26 AS test3
test1 and test2 should give the same result, but they don't?! test1 gives wrong result; test 2 gives correct result. Furthermore, test3 gives a Divide by Zero???
This makes no sense.
(365 / (90 + 91)) is a constant I use many times in my code; only way to procede is to replace it by a number, or have i misunderstood something?
I am running the query on SQL Server 8.0.2040

I'd like to make a copy of several tables before changes are made to them so that I can 'roll back' if necessary.
What I 'thought' i could to was this:
select * into mytable_temp from mytable
and then to roll back..
truncate table mytable
Select * into mytable from mytable_temp
When I try and select back into my original table, it says I can't because the object already exists.. What is a better way to accomplish this????

Doing the standard processing, taking source data in a staging database, where I then create the new target tables, transform the source data into the new target table structure, and load the data.
However, having created the new target tables in my staging database, I cannot accurately migrate these tables into the new database.
An example table.
The following is the script created by SQL Management Studio if I right click and script the table as CREATE.

Note that the field PRO_PackageID has an identity, and is a primary key.
Also note the constraints on several fields and the default values.
If I try to move this table and data using the SQL Server Import and Export Wizard, telling it to drop and create the table, and to keep identity, it does not correctly generate the table defintion - it generates the following script

Am I missing something? Is it actually POSSIBLE to accurately move tables between databases?

Simple Database Copy?
Aug 26, 2007I've looked over the "how do I" stuff but not found a simple, straightforward to simply make a complete snapshot of a relatively small development database (perhaps 2 to 3 meg at this point) so that I can bring it to my local system (from a hosting provider) or vice-versa.
I see the info on "SQL Server Import and Export Wizard" but I don't find the functionality in SQL Server Management Studio Express -- or am I missing it?
Such a process seems obvious. It's not "replication" is it? I don't need it on an on-going basis -- just an occasional one-time thing.

I was wondering if you can help.
In my vb.net form I am running a query to insert data from one database table to another.
However what I need to do is to be able is to add the id of a record I have just created to this insert into sql command.
I have managed to use @@ identity to get the id of my first sql insert statement
but I am wondering how I can use it in the second insert into and select statement. At the moment my sql statement just copies exactly what is in the select statement. I can't figure out how to add the @@identity value to my second sql statement.
My second sql statement is a follows:

How Can I Copy Data From A Table Containing A Binary Column?
May 14, 2005I have a table called 'Articles' whose columns are articleId (int), authorName (varchar) and article (binary). The primary key is articleId. I tried using DTS wizard available in Enterprise Manager 2000, to import the data from this table into a remote database table, but the data copy failed. I am thinking the binary column is causing the DTS data copy to fail.
If someone could tell me what else I could do to transfer binary data to remote database(like an example of a data transfer query), then that would help me greatly.
Copy Image Data Type From One Table To Another

I've a column col1 of image data type in table1. I would like to copy the data from col1 to another image column col2 in table2. Before moving the value, checking has to be done to specify which col1 data from table1 is needed and the destination has to be checked too.
Example: insert into col2
(select col1 from table1 where table1_id =5)
where table2_id =6
Hence bcp wouldn't work. Can anyone suggest me a way to do it. I tried using writetext but then, i've to get data from col1 in a variable, which is not possible. Any suggestions would be very helpful.

I get this every month. What can I do to make sure only unique record are loaded into production table with no duplicate from previous month.
Copy Database Fails

I am getting the error below when I try to copy a database.

I am using SQL Server 2005 SP2 (9.0.3042) with Windows XP SP2 inside a virtual machine (Virtual PC 2007 version 6.0.156.0).
I am copying the database to a local drive (C:) and the error occurs after 45 minutes.
Using SQL Server 2000 takes 40 minutes to copy the same database without problem.
