Simple Login, I'm Going Nuts (new Guy, Please Help)

Hi all, quick, hopefully simple question that has been driving me nuts for 3 days. Using Visual Studio 2005, doing a web app, connecting to an SQL server with already existing login names and passwords...
I have a login name and password text box and a login button. Upon clicking, sqldatasource1 checks to see if the items in the text box match a login and password in the DB. If so, it sets Profile.login and Profile.password to the values in that text box so I can use it to key off the DB for application IDs associated with that login/pass later.
It displays just the login name in a details view upon a match. If nothing is there that matches, it shows a hidden label saying "login failed".
My problem is, that I really don't want the detailsview to display if there is a match. I want it to automatically go to page2.aspx...but I can't figure this out. Response.Redirect("page2.aspx"); doesn't work. It's like the check is happening before detailsview1 shows any data and therefore it doesn't load page2....and I can't figure out how to get it to check detailsview1 for data AFTER it has been displayed.
I guess that I don't know how to get this thing to check if there is something in the detailsview, to go to page 2. It's just not working. Any help would be great! (BTW, not using the builtin login control because I can't figure out how to get that to connect to our sql database's login table.)
Heya Everyone !I am new in Asp.net - I've read tutorial at this page, but i have some problems.I want to have a login form at my website. I also want that login form is checking if user is in a user table (database). I mean simply login form - you write login and a password, than click button - site execute query (select * from user_table where user_id=login and user_password=password or something like this). But I have a problem with building this all code with sql connections. Can someone tell me how can I send query to my sql database ? And how can I display it? And once more - how set the cookies, but thats the other problem.
I been all over this forum trying to find out how to get the aspnetdb.mdf running on my remote site and its driving me nuts. i been using VWD 2005 express Edition and SQL Express Error Server Error in '/' Application. An attempt to attach an auto-named database for file I:DataWebqsh.eumarker_93618920-db3b-4a04-a274-3fb613afc5dfwwwApp_Dataaspnetdb.mdf failed. A database with the same name exists, or specified file cannot be opened, or it is located on UNC share. over the last week it has been a nightmare trying to get anything working on the site but i have got all the other databases working but i can get the aspnetdb.mdf working. i am very new to ASP.net so please use the he kiss method "Keep It Simple, Stupid!" as im a newbe to this and it will just go over my head. I've installed sql server 2005 on a customer's machine.
I have a very small "connection tester" app C# (2005) winforms app, which I use to verify connection strings. This app has been working for years. I am using the sa account to login with in this test app just to keep things simple. I am using Sql Server Authentication.
When I try to connect, I get a "login failed for user sa". I'm absolutely certain that I have the password correct.
Sql Server Express is setup in mixed mode, and I have all the tcp/ip settings correct ( as far as I know ).
I think if it was a tcp/ip thing, it wouldn't find the machine, as opposed to saying Login Failed.
I'm running out of things to look at.
The machine has .NET 3.5 installed. The connection test was written using C# 2005, .NET 2.x Could that cause a problem?
I have two different SQL server installations (7 and 2000) that I have configured for using the SP_processmail procedure. Both servers can properly execute xp_startmail, xp_stopmail, xp_readmail, and xp_findnextmsg. HOWEVER, both have different problems with SP_processmail.
Using this command (and a host of many other variations): sp_processmail @filetype = 'CSV', @separator = ',', @dbuse = 'ryantest', @set_user = 'guest'
SQL 7.0 says: Server: Msg 18007, Level 16, State 1, Line 0 Supplied datatype for @set_user is not allowed, expecting 'varchar'
I have tried every variation possible, including not specifying the yser which should result in it defaulting to the "guest" account. The message is always the same.
SQL 2000 says: Server: Msg 18025, Level 16, State 1, Line 0 xp_sendmail: failed with mail error 0x80004005 Queries processed: 0.
I have checked all my configurations and read every KB article - I can't find anything wrong.
Can someone PLEASE respond if you have any experience with SP_PROCESSMAIL on your servers.
The business rule is, the sales manager is commissioned on the avg. numberof appointments set up per salesrep per day during the month.I have 2 tables: The UserLog table records only 1 entry per day per user(salesrep). This will log how many salesreps worked a particular day. I'm struggling with the different methodologies for using DataSets in 2.0. I can knock this out in no time flat in 1.0, but am bogged down in 2.0. Can anyone guide me on the right track? My code is below. I'm forming a DataSet from a SQL Server Express database from the user's choice from a drop down. My connection string "ASOCTCOConnectionString" is declared in my web.config and used successfully throughout in the WYSIWYG configurations of my databound controls. (I can post the code if that will help) Thestored procedure takes approximately 27 seconds to complete whenexecuted inside query analyser. However, if I run the stored proceduresource directly inside query analyser (like a long sql script), ittakes only 3 seconds!! These results are consistent and reproducible.I would think a stored procedure stores the plan, and I would expectbetter optimization. Why am I witnessing the opposite behaviour? Anyone has any experience?The server is manned by DBAs (I work at a large corporation), so Ibelieve it is well configured. I'm currently evaluating Visual Studio Team System using SQL Server 2005 (9.00.3042.00, SP2, Enterprise Evaluation Edition) and from time to time, I get this error:
Error: 18456, Severity: 14, State: 16.
If I try to connect to the database using SQL Server Management Studio, I get the error:
"A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: TCP provider, error: 0 - An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 10054)".
If I restart the SQL Server services, everything works fine! This is driving me nuts!
Additional information: - The user accounts and security are OK - they have been double checked, and once the services are restarted everything works fine. - SQL Server is configured to accept remote connections - again, once the services are restarted eveything works fine. - I have disabled meanwhile the following protocols: VIA, Named Pipes, Shared Memory both at the Server and Client - and the problem still remains.

Been looking through the forums for a solution to this problem.I already tried granting access through statements such as:exec sp_grantloginaccess N1'machineNameASPNET'But they don't seem to work.. i vaguely remember seeing somewhere a DOS command line statement that grants access to the ASPNET_WP and that fixed my problem before on another computer.. but this is a new computer and i forgot to write down the command.Can anyone help explain and propose a solution to my problem. hi, so i have a new box and I'm trying to get my websites and SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition working on it, but the pages give me the following error when I try to load them: "Cannot Open Database "XXXX" requested by login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'xxx'" Everything seems exactly the same settings and user-wise from my old box to my new one, but nevertheless everything I've tried gives me the same error. I've tried creating new users in SQL Server and giving them appropriate permissions to my database. I've even tried just using the built in 'sa' account. Nothing seems to change the error, except when I give it the incorrect password then it just says 'login failed' This leads me to believe that i'm successfully logging into the SQL Server, but it doesn't want to give me access to the database I'm requesting access too. But "apparently" the account i'm using should have access to the database. If nothing else the 'sa' account should, but that didn't work either. I'm stumped. Any ideas?
Hi I have asp.net2 app using SQLExpress which works fine in VS2005. I have a script component. What it does, it queries the a table using a connectionstring assigned to it in the Connection Managers Editor (which is an ado.net adapter). this works fine when i'm using a windows login in the ado.net connection manager. Cannot open database "QuoteSystem" requested by the login. The login failed.Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE'. Last time I recieved this error I had to add ASPNet, NTAuthority, and myWebSiteUsers USERS under the database properties-->permissions setting for the specific database I am trying to access with the website but this database(QuoteSystem) does not lists any of these objects so I can add them. All the logins with sysadmin role are locked out in one of the SQL server. Also in that instance Logon trigger is implemented which allows only certain users with Windows Authentication to logon.
This server is converted into single user mode by using command prompt. Now we are attempting to connect to SQLServer using command sqlcmd -S FTCPU3239 (since we do not have any other login) and create a new login with sysadmin role but are refused due to logon trigger. it says Login failed for login 'DomainNameUserName' due to trigger execution.
I have a server that has 20 databases . I have tested with few users with different level of access and all of them were able to connect to the server and also see, select, update , delete from a particular database which is kind of weird because they do not have a user login associated or mapped to that database. I checked and no user is part of any group in AD that would give them permission to connect . I need a query that would find the permission path of a user. I already queried with xp_logininfo but I am not getting any thing.

Hi, I just installed Visual web developper 2008 express with all options including SQL srvr express 2005!
This is from default iso image on the official website.
I create my first project and when I want to do ASP.NET configuration from web site menu, i got this error:

I am just trying to learn here so i even did not create any dB or something, it is 1st time I run configuration to add security roles and users for testing!

I receive this error message occasionally in my ETL - usually when trying to pull data from our source system:

There is a setting in the connections manager, under the ALL tab, Initialization, Connect Timeout. It is set to zero, which would be the default. It appears (by looking at the timestamps in my error log) that the default is 15 seconds. If I change this to a higher value (60 seconds or so) should this fix the error?
I am getting the above error. On server1 I am running a dts package via a sql server job (sql server2005). This has been working perfectly for over a year. This package needs to access a database on server2. The database in question on server2 was recently restored from our produciton environment to refresh the data. Every since thsi time the job on server1 is failing with the above error.
Steps I have taken so far: droped the user from server2 and recreated it gave the user sysadmin rights on server 2 and server1
I'm using Visual Web Developer, .NET Framework 2.0, ASP.NET 20., IIS 5.1. on Windows XP Pro SP2.
I have assigned every possible user i can think of full permissions to the web folder, all of the subfolders, and the database files. This includes Administrator, Administrator Groups, ASPNET user, IUSR_Machine, Interner guest account, Network Group, Network Service Group, Power Users Group, Users.
I'm logged on as administrator.
When i run the web service from within VWD, i get this error.
Cannot open database "eBayTrader" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'DHJC2R91ASPNET'.
Does anybody know how to resolve this problem ?
I have been working on it for days. I will gladly pay someone to work this out with me over the phone/email. I'll send you a check before we start.
