Single SQL Query To Two Foxpro (ODBC) Connections

Nov 4, 2004

Dear All,

I like to know if anyone of you out there can help me solve this issue. I need to generate an SQL Query to access two different FOXPro (databases) connections.

Example,
Connection 1 - has a DSN setup of CMSBM and it sits in the path of D:/CMS/CMSBM/= and the table is bmboml15
Connection 2 - has a DSN setup of CMSMA and it sits in the path of
D:/CMS/CMSMA/= and the table is maprodl15

I am coding in ASP.NET using C#. I have tried the command like:

SELECT codeno, link, type FROM bmboml15 IN CMSBM INNER JOIN maprodl15 IN CMSMA ON bmboml15.codeno = maprodl15.codeno.

Obviously the above query is not a working one and a very poor construction.

Please help!

Thanks
Clo

Query Server Error When Accessing Visual FoxPro 9.0 Via ODBC

Nov 6, 2007

I have a report that accessed a Visual FoxPro 6.0 database via ODBC. Since I upgraded to Visual FoxPro 9.0, now I am getting the error:

Query Server Error
DMS-E-RBI_TABLE The table or view <table name> was not found in the dictionary

I've verified that the right path is setup and I've tried installing about every driver and none of them are working. I created a new database in 9.0 and the I can access it fine. Also, there are old tables that are accessible in the same path, just not the ones I need. Any ideas would be helpful..

Foxpro .net Odbc Data Provider Misidentifying Strings As Unicode

Nov 23, 2006

Since my foxpro OLE driver has been rendered useless by service pack 1 for sql server 2005 I am forced to use the .net data provider for odbc.

I am importing a number of tables.. each time I add the DataReader Source to the dataflow and connected it to the OLE DB Destination I get a load of the good old "cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types" errors...

So I'm having to do derived column transforms, for each and every column that it coughs up on.

Using expressions like (DT_STR,30,1252)receivedby to convert the "recievedby" column to a DT_STR,

Some of these tables have 100 string columns.. so I'm getting a bit sick of the drudgery of adding all these derivations...

Is there any way to tell this provider to stop deciding that the strings in the foxpro tables are unicode?

Thanks

ODBC Connections

Oct 23, 2007

Hi.

I'm sorry of my english.

I have to servers.
Server A (local machine).
Server B (Remote machine with Integration Services withpackages after deployment).

In Server B i have some packages with ODBC connection..
In the Server A I have created the same ODBC connection.

I need to execute the packages that are in the Server B in the Server A.
I execute them throw dtexec in cmd in the Server A.

The problem is that it starts to execute but gives an execution error because it gets confused with what Server system should be used (both have the same ODBC connection).
If I run the packages throw cmd in the Server B everything goes OK.

Can anyone help me!?

Thanks.

ODBC Connections Disappearing

I have set up 80 connections to the SQL Server - mostly through code. People have been successfully using the database, but then when they come in to use their computer and the database the next day, their connection is completely gone! What is that all about? So far this has happened to 2 or 3 different users. Any idea why?
Thanks.

Moving ODBC Connections Between Servers

Hello all,

I was wondering if there is a way to move ODBC connections between SQL servers? We are replacing our current server with newer hardware, and I have pretty much everything figured out except this.

SSIS Is Pathetic With ODBC Connections ...

Nov 30, 2007

We have spent days trying to perform a proof of concept and I amdissappointed with SSIS to say the least. We are trying to connect andfetch data from a Double Byte Progress database and the "DataReaderSource" using a ADO .NET ODBC provider does not work! I understandthat SSIS is a totally rewritten version of DTS. What annoys me isthat this functionality used to work in DTS and does not in the muchtalked about SSIS!! Will someone in Microsoft start listening tocustomers instead of gloating on useless features. SSIS is a totalwaste if it cannot connect and fetch data from a wide variety ofsource databases!!

Multiple Odbc Connections And Transactions

Jan 3, 2008

I am using ODBC to connect to SQL Server. The documentation says that ODBC transactions are managed on the connection level and cannot span connections.

Does this mean that two instances of my code using transactions (each with its own process and a single connection) in the same machine accessing the same database will not play nice together (violate transaction rules)?

Thanks

Connecting To ODBC Connections With Report Services

Sep 29, 2006

I have just migrated from SQL 2000 to SQL 2005 and in the process upgraded to new hardware. I am now running SQL2005 (64 Bit) on Windows 2003 R2 (64 Bit). The problem is that when i deploy some reports to the new server that use ODBC to connect to the data, reporting services is erroring with :

Data source name not found and no default driver specified

The ODBC connections are set up exactly the same on the old server and the new server. Is it because it is looking for a 64 bit ODBC driver and not the 32 Bit one I have installed. If i go into the SysWOW64 and run the odbcad32.exe i can see the drivers and the connection. The connection test works fine from here.

Mulitple Database Connections Vs Single Connection?

Apr 16, 2008

I have a DLL that acts as an interface between the application and the database. So you create a new instance to the database via:

MyDatabaseClass db = new MyDatabaseClass()

Each instance of the class creates a new connection to the database.

So if I were to have the following, then 4 connections would be made.

MyDatabaseClass db1 = new MyDatabaseClass()
MyDatabaseClass db2 = new MyDatabaseClass()
MyDatabaseClass db3 = new MyDatabaseClass()
MyDatabaseClass db4 = new MyDatabaseClass()

My question is...What if instead of creating new connections upon each instantiation, I re-use the same connection through a "ConnectionManager" class. In this way, the above code will only create 1 connection instead of 4.

What do you guys think about each approach? Obviously the 2nd approach makes sense for non-web applications, but what about websites? Would that just cause that single connection to be overloaded??

Thanks for any insights.

Database Mirroring, Client Connections All ODBC So What Methods Are Recommended?

Jun 5, 2006

As stated in the subject I have a situation where if database mirroring is employed for either manual or automatic failover, all the client (including web connections) connections use ODBC not ADO, or OLEDB etc... so what methods are recommended? Client side redirect is not available so I could not employe the "Data Source =A; Failover Partner=B..." option.

Right now the method employed (pre database mirroring and basically employing log shipping on SQL 2000) is to have a DNS alias for the ODBC connection so that if the server were to change in a failover situation the DNS record would have to be altered, so that all the client connections would not have to be reconfigured.

FoxPro Triggers Call FoxPro Stored Proc Calls SQL Server Stored Procedure

Mar 10, 2005

I didn't want to maintain similar/identical tables in a legacy FoxPro system and another system with SQL Server back end. Both systems are active, but some tables are shared.

Initially I was going to use a Linked Server to the FoxPro to pull the FP data when needed. This works. But, I've come up with what I believe is a better solution. Keep in mind that these tables are largely static - occassional changes, edits.

I will do a 1 time DTS from FP into SQL Server tables.

I then create INSERT and UPDATE triggers within FoxPro.

These triggers fire a stored procedure in FoxPro that establishes a connection to the SQL Server and fire the appropriate stored procedure on SQL Server to CREATE and/or UPDATE the corresponding table there.

In the end - the tables are local to both apps.

If the UPDATES or TRIGGERS fail I write to an error log - and in that rare case - I can manually fix. I could set it up to email me from within FoxPro as well if needed.

Here's the FoxPro and SQL Server code for reference for the Record Insert:

FOXPRO employee.dbf InsertTrigger:
employee_insert_trigger(VAL(Employee.ep_pk),Employ ee.fname,Employee.lname,Employee.email,Employee.us er_login,Employee.phone)

Query Data From The Linked Foxpro Database

Aug 2, 2007

hello,guys,

my question is :
how do I query data from the linked foxpro database?

more:
I have linked a visual foxpro server to my sql server database by using the addserver clause.
Two server is in a local network.
My linked foxpro server named 'fox'.
its datasourse is not a dbc file, but a directory of dbf files ,and its full path is d:foxpro object.
In the directory ,there are three table,'show2003.dbf','sysu.dbf','szszj.dbf'.
And the .dbf files are not in any database.
They are just three files in the same directory.
There is no dbc file.
Now I can see the table list on the right page of the linked server.
But there is something wrong with my sql clause.

sample:

select * from fox..sysu

then the message is:
server: message 7313,level 16,status 1,row 1
the appointed constructure or directory to the provider is inefficacious 'MSDASQL'

I know I may use 'openquery',or 'openrowset'.
The problem is that variable is not valid in 'openquery' and 'openrowset'.
But I must use variable.
so ,please give me some advice.

Thank you very much

Pass A Variable To A Linked Server (FoxPro) Query

Nov 22, 2004

I'm having problem with an OpenQuery statement in stored procedure, which should be run on FoxPro linked server. I'm getting either an error messages or not the result I expected. I know that the problem is with WHERE part, without this part it works.

Here is the code:
-------------------------------------
DECLARE @LastDate datetime
SELECT @LastDate = MAX(DateChaged)
FROM tblPersonel
WHERE ACTIVE IN( 'A', 'T')

1. I tried:
SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(FoxProLink, 'SELECT ACTIVE, EmpNumber FROM tblPersonel WHERE DateChanged >=''+@LastDate+''')

This line gives me an error msg:

Could not execute query against OLE DB provider 'MSDASQL'.
[OLE/DB provider returned message: [Microsoft][ODBC Visual FoxPro Driver]Operator/operand type mismatch.]

2. I tried to use CTOD() - FOXPRO function to convert character to date.

SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(FoxProLink, 'SELECT ACTIVE, EmpNumber FROM tblPersonel WHERE DateChanged >=CTOD(''+@LastDate+'')')

-this doesn't give any error, but doesn't limit the result set as it should.

Thanks all.

Can You Cache A SSIS Lookup Component To Foxpro V7 With Parameterized Query?

Feb 24, 2006

I am using a lookup component in a SSIS data flow. The lookup is a select to a foxpro table. THe lookup works fine with full cache selected. I cannot get the lookup to work with a partial or no cache. I have the latest Foxpro OLE DB driver installed which I understand to support paramaterized queries. Has anyone had success with using cached lookup to Foxpro? Does anyone know how to set the lookup properties of sqlcommand and sqlcommandparam? I am unable to find any examples in BOL or on the web.

Here are some details. IF I go with "use a table or a view" option with the default cache query I get initialization errors

[lkp_lab_worst_value [6170]] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro" Hresult: 0x80040E14 Description: "Command contains unrecognized phrase/keyword.".

In the advanced editor I see

SQLCommand set to

"select * from `kcf`"

and SQLCommandParam set to

"select * from
(select * from `kcf`) as refTable
where [refTable].[patkey] = ? and [refTable].[dayof_stay] = ? and [refTable].[modifier] = ? and [refTable].[kcf_code] = ? and [refTable].[source] = ? and [refTable].[kcf_time] = ?"

I believe the above error is because Foxpro V7 does not support the inner subselect . In addition the query contains CRLF without a continuation character (";").

If I remove the CRLF in the sqlcommandparam query, using the advanced editor, I get this design time error "OLE D error occurred while loading column metadata. Check the sqlcommand and sqlcommandparam properties". The designer requires both properties to be set, its unclear to me how the interact.

I cannot find any examples in BOL or on the web on how to set these 2 properties. Can someone give me a few guidelines?

I can get past the design errors by changing sqlcommandparam to a plain select that is VFP 7 compatible ( I removed the subselect and the square brackets):

select * from kcf as refTable where refTable.patkey = ? and refTable.dayof_stay = ? and refTable.modifier = ? and refTable.kcf_code = ? and refTable.source = ? and refTable.kcf_time = ?

But then I get a runtime error

[lkp_lab_worst_value [6170]] Error: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E46. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Visual FoxPro" Hresult: 0x80040E46 Description: "One or more accessor flags were invalid.".

[lkp_lab_worst_value [6170]] Error: OLE DB error occurred while binding parameters. Check SQLCommand and SqlCommandParam properties.

Any idea on what I should try next ?

Using 2 Connections And DB In A Query

May 2, 2006

Hi, this is proberly a really stupid question, but I am new at this, so here goes:

Is it possible to use two connections in a SELECT, i.e.

SELECT *
FROM p
WHERE pno IN (SELECT pno FROM sp)

where p is from one connection, and sp is another.

Why? Well I am trying to stage some data, (my very first attempt at it), and want data from the foreign table where a date is higher than a date stored in my "settings" table located in my stage DB. I am not sure if I am doing this the "right" way, if not, advice is always welcome. Generally I could really use a "best pratice" tutorial on DW and SSIS.

Hope the above makes sence.

Thanks in advance

My question is do pass thru queries, when used as a row source, keep a connection to the DB server? Or do they get the data, disconnect and populate the control?

I realize I could populate the controls with code, but this seems less hassle and will overcome the ValueList size limit if needed.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Query Maximum Concurrent Connections (Participants)

Mar 4, 2015

I have a table called dbo.PhoneCalls with below columns

PhoneID |PhoneNumber| Callstarttime| CallEndtime|
1 |111-111-1111|2013-04-01 05:13:03.000|2013-04-01 05:13:03.000
1 |222-222-2222|2013-04-01 05:15:12.000|2013-04-01 05:16:52.000
2 |333-333-3333|2013-04-01 05:17:29.000|2013-04-01 05:24:08.000
2 |444-444-4444|2013-04-01 05:21:50.000|2013-04-01 05:22:31.000
2 |555-555-5555|2013-04-01 05:22:41.000|2013-04-01 05:23:11.000
2 |666-666-6666|2013-04-01 05:23:20.000|2013-04-01 05:23:46.000
..........

1. PhoneID is nothing but the participant in the call. PhoneID = 1 is twice from above. Which means 2 particpants (Same call )with 2 numbers with their callstarttime and callendtime. Similarly for PhoneID =2, there are 4 participants. And the list goes on for a day and then for a month.

2. For example a phone call P1 with 2 participants is going on for a particular day. We should not consider the same phone call having 2 participants involved. So that the concurrency would be 2. We have to ignore that here.

3. Only to be considered is other Phone calls for that day. Lets say P1 having call with 2 participants, P2 having some 4 participants which fall in the time period of P1. Then we should consider P1 and P2 the common period

4. In order to find number of concurrent calls happened for a day basing on callstarttime and callendtime. What would be the query?

5. Should consider the Timeperiod or the bucket with 1 hour as the period.

6. A Phone Call P1, Phone Call P2, should have matching (common) time ( keeping all the scenarios) is required for this query.

Result for Concurrent calls for a day should be like below. Should get all the concurrent connections happened for a particular day.

Date|TimePeriod/Bucket(hr part)|Concurrentconnections|
Jan-01-2015|01 to 02|3
Jan-01-2015|11 to 12|2
Jan-02-2015|04 to 05|5
Jan-02-2015|12 to 13|13
........

ii) So once the above is achieved.

Have to find the Maximum concurrent connections for day from the above.

For below Maximum Concurrent connections are '3'
Date|TimePeriod/Bucket(hr part)|Concurrentconnections|
Jan-01-2015|01 to 02|3
Jan-01-2015|11 to 12|2

Hence the Result for Maximum Concurrent Connections would be

Date|TimePeriod/Bucket(hr part)|MaxConcurrentconnections|
Jan-01-2015|01 to 02|3
Jan-02-2015|12 to 13|13
.............
