I have no idea where to post this kind of question, so here it is!
I have a requirement to retrieve oracle 10 data into SS2000 in as near real-time as possible (stupid users!) and join with resident SS data for on-demand reporting. (We use SS replication to populate some reporting tables from other SS2000 instances and this has spoiled the users as well as the developers! )
I would like to know if there are any clever ways of doing this, or if a plain-old DTS package running in some kind of loop is the practical answer. 1 minute delay is probably too long . . . I don't know if data can be pushed from the oracle side. Or if we need to write a Service and use it to suck and push.
Hi,I need to set up a generic table in Oracle that allows users to enterdata that can later be retrieved in reports.I was thinking of a 3 column table in this structure:DATE,ITEM,VALUEfiguring that you can store anything in this way because ITEM can beanything and you can have multiple instances of a particular value byhaving a new date.Does that seem reasonable? In any case, what are my user front end options? I was thinking aMicrosoft Access database but its not ideal because not everyone herehas Access? Can you do it with Excel? Or what other options are there as a simpleuser front end to enter the data? Thanks for any advice.Kim
It looks like these options are only available in the SQL Server Management Studio? I installed SQL Server Management Express Studio and I can't even find the DTSWizard.exe on my machine.
Can you please help how I can import data from excel or where can I download the SQL Server Management Studio?
we recently got a scenario that we need to get the data from oracle tables which is installed on third party servers. we have sqlserver installed on ourservers. so they have created a DBLINK in oracle server to our sqlserver and published the DBLINK name.
what are the next steps that i need to follow on my sqlserver in order to access the oracle tables ?
I am currently in the process of migrating data from Sybase to Sql server and would like to know how to test the data migrated.
As of now, we took one table data from both source and destination and compared it in Excel to check if the data migrated looks good (note, we used SSIS to migrate data). However, I would like to check if there are any other best & easy ways to apprach data validation post migration.
Is there any option present in SSMS that ll audit all the changes(insert/update/delete) done to data in a database from SSMS( not through any application/front end).
I dont want to place any trace or triggers, is there any in-built option.
I have a .Net database application that we've successfully deployed in a connected environment. Now we have a client that has the need to store data on a central SQL Server and publish that data out to tablet PC's that will be able to disconnect from the central SQL Server. At some point those tablet PC's will come back in and connect to the central server via VPN and will need to push their changes back to the server. Some fundamental questions:
1) Am I correct in assuming that replication is the best way to accomplish this?
If so,
2) Which replication type sounds appropriate to the above scenario?
3) Am I correct in assuming that the tablet PC's will need some version of SQL Server to support editing of the data in the disconnected state?
My perhaps incorrect first take on this was that we could use a licensed SQL Server on the central server and SQL Server Express as a replication subscriber on the tablet PC's.
I have a simple query which returns all the names of products attached to a particular order. select a.orderid, b.product_name from orders a, order_items b where a.orderid = b.orderidSay it returns this data: (sorry about the formatting!)
What I want to do is, instead of getting 3 rows back, I want to roll up all matching values (of product_name) from the order_items table into a simple string seperated by a comma. So, for the data above I would get a single row with the orderid and a string containing something like this: "Sweater (Black), Trousers (Large), T-Shirt (pink)".
I'm sure there's an easy way to do this in SQL Server 2000 but I've not been able to work out how to do this and I couldn't see anytihng in SQL Books Online..
Today an instance periodically becomes unable to accept connections. The service will respond to a service-shutdown and when restarted will accept connections for a minute or two but then refuses to accept connections or service active connections. We have gone through several cycles of this.
The log contains rows of :

I have MS SQL Server 2005 Developer Ed. and try to make a database diagram of remote MS SQL Server2000 database in MS SQL Server Management Studio. I receive an error "Database diagram support objects cannot be installed because this database does not have a valid owner. To continue, first use the Files page of the Database Properties dialog box or the ALTER AUTHORIZATION statement to set the database owner to a valid login, then add the database diagram support objects."
Has anyone experienced performance degradation after converting / uprading from SS7 -> SS2000 ? .... wrt executing a reporting stored proc. that creates dynamic sql and makes extensive use of temporary tables.
If so, what measures were taken to progress towards a final resolution ?
Our scenario:
SS7 code was executed in isolation. ie. it was the only instance running on the box. When the SS7 job had completed, the SS7 instance was shutdown and the SS2000 instance was started .... then the SS2000 code was executed
- Identical h/ware (The SS7 and SS2000 were installed on the same box) - Identical schema, indexes, triggers, views - db files on identical RAID5 array - Stats updated - Tables reindexed - data & procedure caches purged
Note that the temporary table(s) were NOT indexed.
We have several servers, each with many jobs. Some jobs run as Owner "SA", and some jobs running as various domain admin accounts. We have been told to modify all jobs to run with Owner "SA". Now, some of the jobs read or write flat files and I am a little concerned about this. Does the domain account which starts the SS2000 services determine the rights to read and write files? If so, I guess changing all jobs owners to "SA" has no real risk?
Is it possbile to migrate SS2000 DTS packages to SS2005 SSIS involving databases with compatibility mode set to 80. If yes, what are the potential issues, which may occur?
I have to force a space allocation to a DB file in order to stop a Diagnostic Manager alert which states that the database is over 80% full. Now, I don't think this alert is rational, nor do I think it is useful in any way but that's the way it goes. My only option is to allocate more space to the DB so that the space used will fall below 80% so the alert will stop being issued. So, can you tell me how to force a space allocation on an existing db file?
We are implementing push transaction replication from Production SQL Server 2000 database to SQL Server 2005 reporting server and SQL Server 2000 Test server. SQL Server 2000 PROD to 2000 Test is simple but from SS2000 to SS2005 I have following questions: Is it feasible to create push subscription from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 database? When I am trying to setup publisher/subscription properties, It only give me options to pick SQL Server 7.0 or 2000 or heterogeneous databases. When I am trying to register SQL Server 2005 database in EM of SS2000 it don't allow me to add it and through exception that I need to use Management studio, Is there any alternate way to register?
My co-worker, no idiot, says that the tooltip in the system tray forthe SS2000 icon usually shows the computer and server, but once in awhile shows the password (two slashes and the password). Is this a known bug of some sort? It really shouldn't be showing hispassword. It's likely the developer edition, but still, that isn'tgood.
In SS 2000 I want to create a sproc that returns the correct address block for a contact. I want to concatenate AddressLine1 and AddressLine2 if AddressLine2 has a value. When I run the following query I get an error (below):
SELECT vwICPContacts.PersonID, vwPersons.PreferredAddress, vwPersons.Email1,vwPersons.email2, vwPersons.email3, CASE WHEN vwPersons.preferredAddress='Home Address' then case when (isnull([vwpersons].[HomeAddressLine2],'') = '') then [vwPersons].[HomeAddressLine1] when (isnull([vwpersons].[HomeAddressLine2],'') <> '') then [vwPersons].[HomeAddressLine1] + Char(13) & Char(10) & [vwPersons].[HomeAddressLine2] END ELSE case when (isnull([vwpersons].[AddressLine2],'') = '') then [vwPersons].[AddressLine1] when (isnull([vwpersons].[AddressLine2],'') <> '') then [vwPersons].[AddressLine1] + Char(13) & Char(10) & [vwPersons].[AddressLine2] END END AS MailingAddress FROM (vwPersons INNER JOIN vwICPContacts ON vwPersons.ID = vwICPContacts.PersonID) LEFT JOIN vwCompanies ON vwPersons.CompanyID = vwCompanies.ID
Error Message: Server: Msg 403, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Invalid operator for data type. Operator equals boolean AND, type equals nvarchar.
I've done this before but am completely stumped. Any ideas?
I am trying to form a replication system but at the very beginning i couldn't pass an obstacle. While trying to create the Replication it says i have to change the user which starts the SQL Agent because the current starter user account is a system account and this will make the replication between servers fail. "SQL Server Agent on OZN currently uses the system account, which causes the replication between the servers fail. In the following dialog box, specify another account for the service startup account." I change it in the properties dialog box of the SQL Server Agent. The new account is the one I formed and granted accordingly. But it gives the following error when I try to apply the changes. " Error 22042: xp_SetSQLSecurity() returned error -2147023564, 'No mapping between account names and security IDs was done' "
I tried many things, searched in the net, changed the owner of the database, applied new accounts, many grants, applied service pack 4, etc...
If anyone helps it will be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance...
I'm using Script Component to load data into Oracle DB due to the poor performance issue. Now, I found it will missing some data during the transmission. Please see the screenshot below:Â
I have created a simple package that uses a sql command to pull data from an oracle database and inserts the data into a sql 2005 table. Some of the data fields that i am pulling from contain two digits after the decimal point, however this data is lost when it gets into sql. I have even tried putting the data into a flat file, and still the data is lost.
In the package I have a ole db source connection which is the oracle database and when i do the preview i see all the data I need. I am very confused and tried a number of things to get the data into sql, but none work. Any ideas would be very helpful.
OK so there is some data in an Oracle DB that I need to query and analyze. Unfortunately, the criteria for selecting/grouping the data is stored in a MS Sql Server DB. This cannot be changed. SqlServerGroup Name ID# Item ConditionAAA123 1 a 1AAA123 2 a 1AAA123 3 a 1AAA123 4 a 2AAA123 5 a 2AAA123 1 b 3AAA123 2 b 4AAA123 3 b 3AAA123 4 b 4AAA123 5 b 3BBB123 1 a 1BBB123 2 a 1BBB123 3 a 2BBB123 4 a 2BBB123 5 a 2 OracleGroup Name ID# ValueAAA123 1 50%AAA123 2 55%AAA123 3 60%AAA123 4 80%AAA123 5 70%BBB123 1 35%BBB123 2 45%BBB123 3 50%BBB123 4 50%BBB123 5 80% I need to be able to get this:Group Name Item Condition ValueAAA123 a 1 55%AAA123 a 2 75%AAA123 b 3 60%AAA123 b 4 67.5%BBB123 a 1 40%BBB123 a 2 60% Any idea how I can get the data from these two DBs to talk to each other? Thanks.
There is any tools or products that allow Oracle Users to access SQL 2000 data in realtime? I know how to go in the opposite direction using linked servers, but am not sure on this direction,
Currently, I am working SSIS project that its data source from ORACLE 9i. I installed full SSIS in server and also ORACLE. So, I have three connections available in server. They are the following below.
Oracle Client Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle Oracle Provider for OLE DB
The problem is the three component can not recognize parameterization and ORACLE store procedures.
Finally, I executed the store procedures by ORACLE package from command prompt (bat files). So, the command execute from SSIS package.
I am using Import and Export wizard and seeing a very weird behaviour.
I am able to choose 'Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oralce' and provide server name, username/ password. The test connection results in a success. However when I try to move to next window/page by clicking next I get invalid oracle error ora-01017 - invalid username/ password.
Hi, I have to migrate an oracle database over to SQL Server 2005. One of the tables has PDF files stored as BLOB. All the ORACLE providers in SSIS do not support BLOB column. What can I use or how can I get the PDF files into my SQL table? The SQL column can be either IMAGE or VARBINARY(MAX).
I have a column in an Oracle source system with data type NUMBER(38,2). The value "-0.01" is causing problems when trying to import into a SSIS data-flow.
The only way I can import this into my data-flow is by using a Datareader connection manager using the ODBC Data Provider. My DSN is using the Oracle ODBC driver.
If I try and use the "Native OLE DBMicrosoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle" I get an error: "The data value cannot be converted for reasons other than sign mismatch or data overflow"
Judging by this post: http://microsoftdw.blogspot.com/2005/11/final-storyhow-to-get-data-out-of.html there aren't really any other combinations to try that will bring my data in as I want it.
I don't want to use ODBC though as:
Its an old technology Its slow I have to deploy an additional DSN.
Can anyone tell me why the other options don't work? Why does Microsoft OLE DB Provider for Oracle have a problem with "-0.01"?
I am using Reporting Services 2005, Visual Studio 2005, and Oracle 8.x client. I have an issue when previewing the report in Visual Studio. I do not receive any errors€¦.. I just don€™t see any data. The strange thing is when I deploy the report and run the report in Report Manager there is data. I added the TNS and I set the credentials.
Hi, I'm very new to SSIS so excuse any ignorance...
Im trying to update a set of records in an oracle table based on the results of a query against a SQL Server 2005 table. I would prefer not to run the update query for each result in the source query (but will do it if only way possible), so I have built a script task which builds a comma separated string of Ids that I can use in an in clause... Hence the query I want to execute is of the form:
update MyTable set STATUSID = 2 where ID in ( 3,4,5,6 )
When I try and execute this query using an 'Execute SQL Task' in debug mode the package gets 'Stuck' on this task. The task turn yellow as though it is executing but never continues - no errors either.
Is it possible to execute an Update statement against Oracle using the Execute SQL Task? Any suggestions for alternatives?
i have 2 user defined variables one as integer and the other as string in my SSIS package. am using these variables to update a row in one of the oracle tables I have.
update A set LOADED=@rows where sudit='" + @audit + "'
I declared @rows as Int32. But LOADED is declared as number(7,0). Due to this the row does not get updated.
Can anyone please suggest a way to resolve this issue and update the row. Thank you in advance.
We have some columns in a table where the date is stored as 19980101 (YYYYMMDD). The data type for this column is NUMBER(8) in Oracle.
I need to copy rows from Oracle to SQL Server using SSIS. I used the Data Conversion transformation editor to change it to DT_DATE, but the rows are not being inserted to the destination.
On Error, If I fail the component, then the error is :
There was an error with input column "ORDER_DATE_CONV" (1191) on input "OLE DB Destination Input" (29). The column status returned was: "Conversion failed because the data value overflowed the specified type.".
