Sort By Month

Hi,
I've a field with month & year. I'm trying to sort this column. Something like this is my column values.
April 2001
August 2001
December 2001
February 2001
January 2001
July 2001
June 2001
March 2001
May 2001
November 2001
October 2001
September 2001
April 2002
August 2002
December 2002
February 2002
January 2002
But I want to sort this like below.
January 2001
February 2001
March 2001
April 2001
May 2001
June 2001
July 2001
August 2001
September 2001
October 2001
November 2001
December 2001
January 2002
February 2002
March 2002
April 2002
May 2002
I'm not finding any way to do this. If I sort this list by month, it'll be sorted alphabetically. Any help on this would be much appreciated!

I have two vlaue prompts.. which show year & month, when we select year, it shows in order. when we select month, since its character, it showing from 'April, August....
but i want month prompt to start from Jan...
Any suggestion on how to modify..

I have a table report that lists the prior 12 months of sales data. I'd like the report to display in reverse order from current month back. When I sort decedning by month it puts the months in reverse alphabetic order. How can I sort by numeric order?

When I sort the effective date, it sorts it in month order with all of the years together under that month.
Is it possible to sort the effective date in year order? The way it if formated right now is 01-01-2007. Is there any type of formula that I can use?
Below is the field that I use.

I have a report that is grouped by Month and Year.
So I need it to display:
Jan, 2007
Feb, 2007
Mar, 2007
Apr, 2007
Etc…
AND it needs to be sorted with Jan as the first month and Dec as the last (as if it was 1-12 for months).
Now I can get it to display by taking the month name and concatenating it to the year, but then of course it won’t sort the way I want it to.
Any suggestions on this?
Perhaps I could/should return two values, the first being what I display on the report, and the second being what I sort on as a hidden field? So I could return 200701, 200702, 200703, and so on, to sort on that?

Hello what I'd like to display the following in a matrix report:
Parameter selected: 3 (March), 2008 (Year)
Monthly TO Summed up
ArtNo March <=March
1210 20,500 50,900
1220 21,200 64,000
1230 15,400 40,300
... ... ...
So, in the rows I have the articles and in the column the selected month via parameter. In another column I need to sum up all monthly values up to the selected month, meaning in this example the sum of jan, feb and mar per article.

I am trying to set sorting up on a DataGrid in ASP.NET 2.0. I have it working so that when you click on the column header, it sorts by that column, what I would like to do is set it up so that when you click the column header again it sorts on that field again, but in the opposite direction. I have two tables Costtable (Id,ResourceId, Amount,Date) and ResourceTable (ResourceId,Name) which shows output as below.
I want to show 0 amount for rest of the name in case of September. For e.g. if rest of the Resources does not appear in cost table they should appear 0 in amount

Does anyone know how I can get last day of month
if I pass a function a given month and and given year.
@Month = 2
@Year = 2004
The result I would need is 29 because there are 29 in
the month of February in the 2004.

My goal is to select values from the same date range for a month on month view to compare values month over month. I've tried using the date trunc function but I'm not sure what the best way to attack this is. My thoughts are I need to somehow select first day of every month + interval 'x days' (but I don't know the syntax).In other words, I want to see

Hi I trying to find a way to determine the number of working days per month starting from the current date to the last day of the current month.And within the same store procedure determine the number of working days as normal (each month is independent from the next). For example: The store procedure is executed
September:
@CurrentDate = 9/10/2007
@EndDate = last working day 9/30/2007
Total# of working days = 15
October:
@CurrentDate = 10/1/2007
@EndDate = last working day 10/31/2007
Total# of working days = 23
November:
@CurrentDate = 11/1/2007
@EndDate = last working day 11/30/2007
Total# of working days = 22
etc.
Any ideas of how i can approch this?

i have some classes that I want to group by month/year (note:i dont need the day of the month)

Does anyone know of a way to use a funtion for returning records based on fiscal reporting periods like Quickbooks uses for example "This Month", "Last Month", "This Quarter", "Last Quarter", "This Year", "Last Year". While I realize that I can create a very long date time parsing routine for this but it is not very elegant or useful. I would like to AUTOMATICALLY count the event for the month BEFORE today
and
count the events remaining in the month (including those for today).
I can count the events remaining in the month manually with this query (today being March 20):
SELECT Count(EventID) AS [Left for Month],

Could anyone provide me with the correct syntax to count the events for the current month before today
and
to count the events remaining in the month, including today.

I am trying to get my db to return a date in the format day/month/year but its returning the american version month/day/year.
I'm using a DatePart function that converts my date:
CREATE FUNCTION dbo.DatePart

RETURNS varchar(10)

This returns te american version, can anyone help me to get this to convert the UK way.

We are using a modeling technique called Anchor Modeling in our data warehouses. You can read more about the technique itself at our homepage http://www.intellibis.se, where we have published a fact sheet and a recently held presentation (TDWI European conference). One of the features with this technique is its simple way to historize data. This is done by having a fromDate column which together with the surrogate key will yield a unique combination. On the tables that has this kind of historization we add a primary key, which in turn will create a clustered index, with the following specification (surrogateKey asc, fromDate desc). This will physically order data on the storage media according to the specificed columns and ordering. Now I move on to create a "latest view" of this table which does a subselect to find the latest version for every surrogateKey using max(fromDate). Should not the optimizer now figure out that data is ordered so that the latest version always comes first for every surrogateKey, hence any sorting would be unneccessary? If I look at the actual execution plan after running a query that uses the view there is a sort in the plan, but the cost is always 0%. Does this mean that it did not sort the data, or that it did call a sorting routine, but it actually took very little time to do the sorting? If so, is there a reason that is has to do the sorting or could it have been left out by an even smarter optimizer?
I would also like to applaud the people behind the optimizer, since it will figure out which tables are in fact necessary to query and eliminate others, even if I have left joined them into the view I am using. This speeds up performance and makes anchor modeling feasible. Unfortunately optimizers from other vendors seem to have trouble doing this...

I've been racking my brain all day and I finally decided to ask for help. I've got two tables with rows from the first that need to be sorted by the second. The problem is that the rows don't always exist in the second table. I've tried various forms of INNER, LEFT, RIGHT, OUTER, LEFT OUTER, CROSS, etc., etc., etc. and nothing (oh yeah UNION too). Every time I get close, I lose the records that don't have matches.
Something close-

I have: 4 tables and 1 table variable.
CCenters (ID, Name)
Campaigns (ID, Name)
Rel (ID, CCenterID, CampaignID) - [many to many]
and @SCampaigns (ID, CampaignID) - represents the selected campaigns by the user
performing the commands below I would get the centers associated with the campaigns selected.SELECT CCenterID

But what I really want are the common centers to the selected campaigns.

I've made this example and it loads a picture into a database.
