We are trying to use SSIS to import data from a flat file. The file contains a mixture of 2 different sets of data - first there are an unknown number of rows that define the column names, and then there are rows of the data itself that are delimeted and that contain the same number of columns as are defined above.
Anyway, the only way we can see to import this data is first via a Script Source task, since for a flat file source we'd need to specify the number of rows to skip, which is unknown at design time. If anyone knows any way of getting round this I'd appreciate your advice.
So in the scrip source task we are looping through the rows in the flat file and writing to 2 output buffers - one for the metadata and one for the data itself.
The problem is the Script Source task only lets you specify output columns at design time, and we don't know what columns to output until run time as the number of delimited columns is unknown.
So does anyone know of a way of either:
Adding output columns for a script source task at run-time OR
Alternatively, we could output the delimited data from the Script Sourceas one long column. If so, what would be the best way of then splitting this up into individual columns?

Required Microsoft Sql Server 2005 Express Server Roles For JDBC Connection

I have developed a database in MS SQL Server 2005 Express, to which I would require only bulkadmin server role from an external java application, because I only need to update rows, insert values or use select queries in the database.
The problem is that, using either the Microsoft JDBC Driver 1.1 or the Java JDBC ODBC Driver and the Windows XP Data Base (ODBC) configurations, I need a user with sysadmin server role inside Sql Server, otherwise JDBC won't connect to the database using the selected user. Even if I leave the sql login with setupadmin or any server role lower than sysadmin, the connection is refused.
Is there no way to connect using JDBC to MS Sql Server 2005 other than granting the connected user sysadmin rights? My code looks as follows:

Dec 13, 2007My web project (ASP.NET 2.0 / C#) runs against sql server 2000 and uses the System.Data.SqlClient.using System.Data.SqlClient;
I use System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection and System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand to make the connections to the database and do selects and updates. Is it correct to continue to use these against SQL Server 2005? I ask because I made a connection string (outside of .Net) for SqlServer 2005 using the SQL native provider and it had the following - Provider=SQLNCLI.1 and any connection strings I had made (also outside of ASP.NET) fro SQL Server all used Provider=SQLOLEDB.1. This is why I wondered if there is a different SqlClient in .Net 2.0 for SQL Server 2005?

Is Conversion From SQL Server Express To Full SQL Server Required?
Jul 13, 2006If I develop my app in SQL Server 2005 Express, and then want to use a hosting service that only offers full SQL Server 2005, do I have to do some kind of conversion to my DB file, and if so, what might that be? (I notice that there are hosting services that provide SQL Server Express...I'd like to know how much work it would be to be able to use other services.)

Oct 15, 2004On one of our servers the sqlseragent was running fine. But now it is not running. We se the option to start the server agent each time the OS starts. Even when I tried to start the agent manually from service manager it is not starting. Would any one help on this urgently.
Also how can we identify under what account any job runs. The reason is when we deleted some NT user accounts one of the job failed as this job runs under that userid. But in the properties it shows that sa is the owner of that job. What is best way to create a job so that these jobs run under one userid so that it won't fail when we delete users.

Determining The Server Memory Required For SQL Ser

I am trying to determine the optimum amount of server memory that would be required for my SQL Server application. According to a book, it is calculated as follows:
Minimum memory required = System memory + User memory + Database process memory
I have thought about ways to determine each component of memory.
1) I could determine the System memory utilized from the Task manager (Total - Available), when the SQL Server service has been started, and no applications are running.
2) I could determine User memory by ascertaining the number of concurrent users during peak usage time of the application and then multiplying it with 0.5 MB.
3) I could determine Database process memory by summing up the "memusage" column in the SysProcesses table, at the time of
peak usage and multiplying it with 8.
Please let me know whether they are correct.

I am using SQL Server 2005 and C#(winforms).
For example if I have a winform with a textbox and search button. If I type in ABCD1234. I won't know what the data is coming into the X Table. So there will be hundreds of description data in the description field in X table.
So in the X Table, there are ABCD1234,ABCD_1234,ABCD/1234,ABCD 1234
But I will only pick this 'ABCD1234' record up, and the rest won't be picked. They are variations of the same description. It needs to pick also ABCD_1234,ABCD/1234,ABCD 1234
If also type in 5678, in another column like code in X Table. It would have 005678,05678,56780. But I will only pick this '5678' record up, and the rest won't be picked. They are variations of the same code.
It needs to pick also 005678,05678,56780
I have tried LIKE, FREETEXT and CONTAINS.
But another idea is a table of alternate descriptions for those that you know about and look those up and search for them all. But how can that be done?
Any ideas guys please? with examples if possible.

I was in the phase of switching over to Sql Server Reporting from the normal reports. I plan to go with the SQL server 2005 standard version. Do i need visual studio 2005 to design and deploy report. If I am using only SQL server standard alone for my reporting and publishing, is it possible to assign the user rights to reports, user can just login and can view all the reports that belongs to that user. Since I wont be using the visual Studio 2005, so I want to implement this using the SQL server 2005. So pls help me with your kind information how to proceed ahead.

Required output:
patient will able to Admit/Re-admit multiple times in hospital, if a patient readmitted multiple times in hospital after the first visit, first visit record will get Re-admission=0 and Index=1. This visit should cal Index_Admission of that patient. using this index_admission should calculate the 30-day readmission.
Current Output:
Calculation: From index_admission discharge date to next admit_visit date,
1) if the diff is having less than 30 days, readmission=1 and Index=0
else readmission=0 and Index=1 should be update.
For checking this every time should check using the latest index_admission discharge_date.
To get this result i written below logic, but it's updating readmission=0 and Index=1 after 30-day post discharge of using first index admission.

What are the minimum permissions required by the SQL Server 2005 Upgrade Advisor (UA)? I could not find it in the documentation.
Obviously being a local Administrators Windows group and a member of sysadmin SQL Server role will do the trick.
But will being a member of only the sysadmin SQL Server role be enough? I know that the UA does want to read the registry.

The issue then is whether these are significant or not. If the UA is only reading the registry to determine if SSAS, DTS, etc is installed then that is not important. But if it is affecting the end result because it cannot read critical information from the registry that is another matter.

My query condition is complex and that is why Im facing problem retrieving the output.I need a cursor for getting distinct invoice number from the table and for each invoice number I need to get the latest record for each invoice number and suffix combination based on creationdateand time column and if that record has invoice status of 2 and also the invoice expiration date can be either null or greater than today's date, then I need to get that record and put it in a temp table.
The query I wrote is below

Oct 29, 2015I have a Windows NT group that is used to delegate certain database responsibilities to other members of staff and I am trying to grant permissions for the members of the group to be be able to establish database mirroring sessions, as in run the following:

Although the group has db_owner role membership to the user database which grants the ALTER permission on the database, the following is being generated in the error log when they get to this step on the intended Mirror instance after restoring the database correctly in preperation:

Setup And Upgrade :: Reboot Required To Server To Add SSRS To One Of Many Instances Already Installed?
Jun 9, 2015Have a production server, 12 Enterprise, and we are adding a new app to an existing instance. Next app needs SSRS and that was not put in the install request a year ago for the instance.
I do not think a reboot is required but have been wrong before. There are no SPs applied to this server and only last week we were given go ahead from one app vendor to apply SPs. That would have been done in monthly maintenance cycle next weekend. Our test server is doing just fine with all apps on SP1.
