Special Character Problems With SSIS Data Reader Using ODBC Driver For DB2

Sep 5, 2007

Hi,
in SSIS I read data from a DB2 database on AS400 using the Client Access ODBC Driver for DB2 from IBM and write it to a SQL Server database. Since it does not work using the odbc driver as data source directly, I use a data reader component with .net providersodbc.
Some special characters were not translated correctly when read from DB2. They show up as ? in the SQL Server target table.

I tried to change the client locale in the ODBC connection properties but it did not help me. I tried changing all other settings in odbc but it still does not work.

In dts I could source all the data without this problems and good speed using the same nodbc driver.

The OLEDB Providers delivered with SSIS do not work in SSIS or I am too stupid to configure them correctly. They are even too slow as I explained above.

I cannot use the MS OLEDB Provider for DB2, because it works only in Enterprize Edition and we only have the Standard Edition.

Thus, only using Client Access ODBC Driver for DB2 with net providersodbc (as bridge) is performant enough and works on Itanium. But how to work around the problem with the special characters?

Best regards,
Stefoon

Integration Services :: Unable To See 64bit ODBC Driver From SSIS Odbc Connection?

Jun 1, 2015

I am using SSIS 2014 with the below .net framework version and installed in Windows server 2012 R2 . I have installed my client's odbc drivers (both 32 bit and 64 bit) in my production server and created ODBC system DSNs for 32 bit and 64 bit.

When i open SSIS 2014 and tried to create the odbc connection but i can able to see only the 32 bit system DSN connection ,i can't able to see my 64 bit odbc system dsn connection.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
Version 11.0.50727.1 RTMREL
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.5.51650

SQL Server Integration Services
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 12.0.1524.0

And i installed my client odbc drivers(32,64 bit) and created ODBC system DSNs in my local system and when i open ssis 2014 and i can able to see both the ODBC system DSNS(32,64) connections from SSIS ODBC connection.

I am using below version of .net framework in my local system which was installed in windows 7 and i have SSIS 2012 also installed in my system and i can able to see both ODBC connections using 2012 as well in my local system.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
Version 11.0.50727.1 RTMREL
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.5.50938

SQL Server Integration Services

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source Name Not Found And No Default Driver Specified

Oct 19, 2006

trying to install sql server2005 on a windows 2003 server box.

getting msg below at the sql server . i looked at other posts on trying to uninstall SQL Native Access Client and norton antivirus. i could never find the snac on the add - remove programs and this server does not have a virus protection program yet.

here's the history of the installs on the server:

wanted to test a 2005 upgrade so:

1) installed sql server 2000 then sp4 then restored some databases to it - all OK

2) tried to upgrade to sql 2005 but ran into problems and left it at that.

had a disk drive crash on the d drive so lost the installs but not the operating system

when the drive was replaced, left alone for a while

then wanted to test a straight 2005 install

1) removed the broken 2005 attempt

2) removed the 2000

3) installed 2005 and got the error on the subject line:

TITLE: Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Setup
------------------------------

SQL Server Setup could not connect to the database service for server configuration. The error was: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified Refer to server error logs and setup logs for more information. For details on how to view setup logs, see "How to View Setup Log Files" in SQL Server Books Online.

i've gone through as many of the forums that i can and have tried several things - like uninstalling 2005 and installing pieces and parts but but nothing seems to work.

Thanks!

Sql2005 ODBC Driver Manager Data Source Name Not Found And No Default Driver Specified

Feb 4, 2008

i am attempting to run phpbb using ms sql 2005 on the same box but get the following error during the setup

Could not connect to the database, see error message below.
[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified

i am not sure yet if this is an issue with sql, php or phpbb

php is installed in iis and has all the modules installed which the php msi installer supported. i can run php code but in this case when i'm running the install.php file for the phphbb setup, i fill in the values for the database and got that error

phpbb detects all the required server settings and sees that i have ms sql installed

any suggestions on what that error means or how to go about configuring odbc driver?

probably a simple issue. but i'm still new with sql stuff

How To Import In Special Character Delimited Text File By Using SSIS ?

Sep 26, 2007

Hi,

I would like to know how to import in the custom delimited text file by using SSIS.
For example, instead by using tab or comma delimited, I use this character : '¶'
The reason is the delimited format that SSIS provided is too common such as colon, semi colon, tab, comma and pipeline.
I have the data that the user also key in the pipeline there. So I am thinking to separate the field by using this special character, but cannot see if there is anyway to import in by using SSIS.

Please help to share the solution on this :

A¶B¶C
1¶2¶3

Oct 28, 2004

Hi,

Please help share with me if you know the version compatibility matrix of Ms SQL Server, ODBC driver (sqlsrv32.dll), Driver Manager (odbc32.dll) and ODBC API spec. For instance, how can I know Ms SQL Server 2000 can work with which version of sqlsrv32.dll, a particular version of sqlsrv32.dll can work with which version of odbc32.dll and a certain version of sqlsrv32.dll/odbc32.dll conforms to which version of ODBC API spec (e.g. 3.5).

Any help will be appreciated.

Data Access :: Special Character In Password

Jul 9, 2015

There is a ">" character (right-angle bracket) inside my SQL Server password. When I supplied this password to the bcp utility, the ">" character was treated as an output redirection symbol. So the password was truncated at ">" and the bcp output got sent to a file with a name consisting of the rest of the password after ">". I'm using SQL Server 2012. I cannot use Windows authentication due to company policy. Is there a way to resolve this without changing the password?

Data Reader Source As ODBC / Complex Sql

May 30, 2007

Hello All,

How do I get columns to output when I have a data reader source? My connection is an ODBC and does complex sql. I am connection to a Netezza database and I would like to execute a very complex query, but in essence does

Create newtable as

(select day, sessionId)

from source

// lots of other joins and unions

select day, sessionId from newtable

drop newtable

I have an ODBC connection and I have a Datareader source, I cannot connect this source to my SQL Server destination because no output columns are available. What am I missing here?

Are there any good examples of this, taking data from a ODBC source into SQL server?

Thanks in advance.

Truncation Of String Data With Data Reader Source Connecting To ODBC DSN

Mar 18, 2007

A data reader is using a connection manager to connect to an ODBC System DSN . A query in the SqlCommand property is provided. Data is being truncated in the only string column . The data type in data reader output-->external columns shows as Unicode string [DT_WSTR] Length 7.

The truncated output in a text file is the first 3 characters from left to right . Changing the column order has no effect.

A linked server was created in SQL Server Management Studio to test the ODBC System DSN using the following:

EXEC sp_addlinkedserver
@server = 'server_name',
@srvproduct = '',
@provider = 'MSDASQL',
@datasrc = 'odbc_dsn_name'

Data returned using "OPENQUERY" does not truncate the string column indicating that the ODBC Driver returns data as expected with sql 2005, but not with the Data Reader.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Data Extraction From A Source Using SOLID ODBC Driver

Hi all,

We are using a package to extract data from a source build on some image using SOLID ODBC 5.2 driver.
When we tried to extract data through MS SSIS(SQL Server Integration Services) package using SOLID 5.2 ODBC driver connection, it throws an error as mentioned below:
ERROR DESCRIPTION:

The PrimeOutput method on component "DataReader Source" (1) returned error code 0xC02090F5. The component returned a failure code when the pipeline engine called PrimeOutput(). The meaning of the failure code is defined by the component, but the error is fatal and the pipeline stopped executing. There may be error messages posted before this with more information about the failure.

Error: 0xC0047021 at Data Flow Task, DTS.Pipeline: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_THREADFAILED. Thread "SourceThread0" has exited with error code 0xC0047038. There may be error messages posted before this with more information on why the thread has exited.

Also, we tried the same in a Excel sheet using the SOLID 5.2 ODBC driver it is working fine.
Does the SOLID ODBC driver support .Net framework or do we need to install any other components??

SSIS - Data Reader - Need To Use A Parameter - Connecting To UDB/DB2 On Sun Solaris

Aug 15, 2007

In several weeks of effort and research I cannot locate any method to get this to work and need some help. We've loaded the most recent version of the Microsoft OLE DB (Feb 2007) and have located several discussion threads on these and other forums that all point to the same conclusion... you cannot use this to talk to a UDB/DB2 instance on Sun Solaris unless you are pulling a full table. Any custom SQL will not work. So, I'm trying to setup a custom query which in most cases is to determine a date to use in the filter (where clause) and the rest of the query is static. The DataReader source does not support parameters and also appears to not support SQL command from variable. Any thoughts on how to get this to work without having to read the full table and pass the data to subsequent filters within the package???

Thanks

How Can I Use Create Or Alter Statements With ODBC And Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*mdb)?

Hi,

I am using VB.NET 2005 and set up an ODBC connection via ODBC.ODBCConnection to a MDB database. Therefor, I use the "Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*.mdb)".

When I set up a ODBCCommand like "ALTER DATABASE..." or "CREATE TABLE..." and issue it with the com.ExecuteNonQuery() command, I get an error from ODBC driver, that a SQL statement has to begin with SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE.

How can I use DDL statements via ODBC?

I would appreciate if you could help me to use ODBC for that - no OLE, no ADO.

Thanks for help!

Resolution Of Following Error: IM010: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data Source Name Too Long

Feb 26, 2008

Hi SQL Server Team,

In order to add a data source by using ODBC Administrator, programmatically i am using SQLConfigDataSource. Thus calling SQLConfigDataSource with the fOption set to either ODBC_ADD_DSN for creating a new DSN.

Following is the stattement specified in the source code. where type_of_driver = "Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)"; and parameters contains the data source source credentials information such as DSN, UID, PSW, FIL, Description, DataDirectory,DEFAULTDIR and DBQ all separated by "".

rc = SQLConfigDataSource(NULL, ODBC_ADD_DSN, type_of_driver, parameters);

after execution of below mentioned command an error is encountered i.e -1 is returned if the DataDirectory path exceeds certain nested directories link. for eg. the file path specified below.

C:My DocumentsClients CurrentAHW Netcare BenefitsDeliverables1-5 Results Chain - system LevelAlberta NetcareBenefits Logic System Level V01.rcm

Creating a datasource with the file name i.e Benefits Logic System Level V01 every time.
rc = :: SQLConnect(hDbc, (unsigned char *)szSource, SQL_NTS, (unsigned char *)szUserName, SQL_NTS, (unsigned char *)szPassword, SQL_NTS);

Also following error message was encountered during execution of SQLConnect command.

/*szErrorMsg = 0x0012e834 "[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Not enough information to connect to this DSN with SQLConnect. Use SQLDriverConnect."*/

Thus followed the instruction smentioned in the error message an dtried using SQL DriverConnect() in the following manner.
rc = :: SQLDriverConnect(hDbc, NULL,(SQLCHAR *)"DSN=RCM",SQL_NTS,outstr, sizeof(outstr),
&outstrlen,SQL_DRIVER_NOPROMPT);

Still an error is encountered but this time it returns a RETCODE of 100 whrease earlier it had returned -1.

Inform the procedure to be followed using SQLConnect when DataDirectory path is too long.

An early reply will be appreciated.

Issue With Dynamic SQL Stored Procedure And SSIS OLE DB Data Reader

May 16, 2006

We are writing SSIS packages to pull data from MSO€™s through a stored procedure and drop the output into the pipeline to store it on our local database.

Here is an example of a very simple data flow task that executes the following query in step 1

EXEC GetCustomerData @SELECT = 'OrganizationID', @FROM = 'Organization',@WHERE = 'StateOrProvinceCode = ''WA'''

This command is stored in a variable called SQLOrgCommand.
When I open the task and click on Columns I do not see any columns returned
This allows me to conclude that the metadata needed from the GetCustomerData is not understood by SSIS because the SP uses dynamic sql.

While profiling we realized that it executed the following SQL:

SET FMTONLY ON

to get the metadata. However when we ran the sp with FMTONLY ON we recieved the following errors

Msg 536, Level 16, State 5, Procedure sp_GetData, Line 100
Invalid length parameter passed to the SUBSTRING function.
Msg 536, Level 16, State 2, Procedure sp_GetData, Line 101
Invalid length parameter passed to the RIGHT function.
Msg 536, Level 16, State 5, Procedure sp_GetData, Line 116
Invalid length parameter passed to the SUBSTRING function.
Msg 536, Level 16, State 2, Procedure sp_GetData, Line 117
Invalid length parameter passed to the RIGHT function.
Msg 536, Level 16, State 5, Procedure sp_GetData, Line 187
Invalid length parameter passed to the SUBSTRING function.

The same stored procedure executed without FMTONLY OFF generates the proper output.

Is this a known bug in SQL Server? If so is there a patch that we can install.

INSERT #ABC SELECT 19999,'SQL2000

GO
SELECT * FROM #ABC WHERE DESCRIPTION ='SQL2000'

--(0 row(s) affected)
select * from #ABC WHERE REPLACE(DESCRIPTION,'

GO
DROP TABLE #ABC
:rolleyes: I believe, ENTER has some value within a field.

I am trying to update a colunm with the value (Dynamically).

'UPDATE ' + @TABLE + ' SET '+ @FIELD + ' = '''+ @VALUE +'''

well It works fine until @Value contains quotation for instance @value = O'hare Airport
results in termination of the statement because of single quote after O in O'Hare. Is there any way I can see it works

Also suppose if its updating a field which can be say 10 charcters long and when @value has say 15 characters, it terminates. Is there anyway i can avoid this.

Patindex To Find Special Character And Next 6 Digits

Dec 6, 2007

I am creating a view to pull data for a UPS integration I am doing. I currently have this view where I pull my data from. All is well accept for my PATINDEX,

Currently I have this PATINDEX So when a user puts this into delivery instructions "#999999" UPS_FINAL returns 999999 which is good for me to use. But The PATINDEX will also grab all kinds of neat stuff out of the delivery instructions field when I really only want whatever is after the # sign in the field.

I am new to sql and dont quite understand how this search is working but I think I am in need of a better way to search the field

Code:

WHEN SUBSTRING(P21PLAY.dbo.p21_view_oe_hdr.delivery_instructions, PATINDEX('%[^a-z ]%', P21PLAY.dbo.p21_view_oe_hdr.delivery_instructions) + 1, 6) IS NULL

ELSE SUBSTRING(P21PLAY.dbo.p21_view_oe_hdr.delivery_instructions,
PATINDEX('%[^a-z ]%', P21PLAY.dbo.p21_view_oe_hdr.delivery_instructions) + 1, 6) END AS UPS_FINAL

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What I am looking to accomplish is a SUBSTRING that will search delivery_instructions

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Insert Value Generate Special Character

Mar 12, 2014

I have a web page where the user can select the language (FR, EN, BG, ...) in a drop down list.

Next to the drop down list there is a text box where user can type the some text (translation).

User can add several description

On my web page, i have a button this button collect all information create an xml file and save all in database (sql server 2008)

that's work fine for some language => FR, EN and so on

But for bulgarian (bulgare) and greece there are some problem...

Some characters when i display it in sql look like => ???s??. ? d??ta?? a?t?

The value encoded by the user is => Ένωσης. Η διάταξη αυτή

but the result after t sql xpath is => ???s??. ? d??ta?? a?t?

Here is it my sql code where you can find my temporary table and my xml file and my xpath query

declare @tblTranslation table (idDocID int, languageID varchar(10), value varchar(500))
declare @Translations XML

set @Translations = '<?xml version="1.0" ?><Items><Item><eleKey>EN</eleKey><eleValue>This is a test</eleValue></Item><Item><eleKey>FR</eleKey><eleValue>test</eleValue></Item><Item><eleKey>BG</eleKey><eleValue>Ένωσης. Η διάταξη αυτή</eleValue></Item><Item><eleKey>HR</eleKey><eleValue></eleValue></Item><Item><eleKey>RO</eleKey><eleValue></eleValue></Item></Items>'

-- 2) fill the temporary table with information from the xml file

INSERT INTO @tblTranslation(idDocID, languageID, value)
SELECT
1
, Convert(nvarchar(max), i.query('eleKey/text()')) as colKey
, Convert(nvarchar(max), i.query('eleValue/text()')) as colValue
--
FROM @translations.nodes('/Items/Item') as x(i)
SELECT * FROM @tblTranslation
