First and foremost, thanks for reading and responding!Does it matter how big a stored procedure is if you do things in the stored procedure such as:declare the parametersIF @Parm_Select = '<ALL>'do a select IF @Parm_Select <> '<ALL> and @Parm_Report = '1'do a selectIF @Parm_Select <> '<ALL> and @Parm_Report = '2'do select This goes on and on and on and I have written a couple of stored procedures that are about 1500 lines of code based upon parameters passed I do not create any tables - they are just all select statements based upon the parameters passed.I thought I was doing the right thing cause I did not want to have to write a procedure that called a procedure, (I read this and got confused on the return prarmeters cause there is a lot of data being returned from the select ----- I don't think I said that correctly! . I am just learning this SQL stuff and I it is cool and I am excited - but I don't want to develop any bad habits in the beginning - and I try to look these things up on the www - but I just don't get explicit answers from reading all of this stuff. Thank to all in advance!
I've upgraded MS-Access 2002 to a MS-Access Project (adp), so now I have todeal with more sophisticated queries (may I call them so?) like storedprocedures. I have a form with a combobox for selections and a textbox toenter a certain value. Let us say I call the combobox @select and thetextbox @find. The combobox always shows the first of the items to select. Now I want to return a message if nothing is found, or if nothing has beenentered at all. The stored procedure reads for instance:ALTER PROCEDURE OPC@select nvarchar(20), @find nvarchar (100)ASSET NOCOUNT ONIF@find IS NULLBEGINPRINT 'You didn't enter any value'RETURNENDIF@select = 'Author'BEGINSELECT *FROM BooksWHERE Author LIKE '%' + @find + '%'ORDER BY Author, Title, Publisher, YearEND[And so on]RETURNThis works correct when I enter something, but when I don't enter any value,a message box pops up saying that the stored procedure has been executed, but no records were found. I want to see an error message like above. It'sas simple asALTER PROCEDURE HelloASBEGINPRINT 'Hello'ENDand nothing is seen. Does anybody know? Thank you.Wim
Hello, I'm using ASP.Net to update a table which include a lot of fields may be around 30 fields, I used stored procedure to update these fields. Unfortunatily I had to use a FormView to handle some TextBoxes and RadioButtonLists which are about 30 web controls. I 've built and tested my stored procedure, and it worked successfully thru the SQL Builder.The problem I faced that I have to define the variable in the stored procedure and define it again the code behind againALTER PROCEDURE dbo.UpdateItems ( @eName nvarchar, @ePRN nvarchar, @cID nvarchar, @eCC nvarchar,@sDate nvarchar,@eLOC nvarchar, @eTEL nvarchar, @ePhone nvarchar, @eMobile nvarchar, @q1 bit, @inMDDmn nvarchar, @inMDDyr nvarchar, @inMDDRetIns nvarchar, @outMDDmn nvarchar, @outMDDyr nvarchar, @outMDDRetIns nvarchar, @insNo nvarchar,@q2 bit, @qper2 nvarchar, @qplc2 nvarchar, @q3 bit, @qper3 nvarchar, @qplc3 nvarchar, @q4 bit, @qper4 nvarchar, @pic1 nvarchar, @pic2 nvarchar, @pic3 nvarchar, @esigdt nvarchar, @CCHName nvarchar, @CCHTitle nvarchar, @CCHsigdt nvarchar, @username nvarchar, @levent nvarchar, @eventdate nvarchar, @eventtime nvarchar ) AS UPDATE iTrnsSET eName = @eName, cID = @cID, eCC = @eCC, sDate = @sDate, eLOC = @eLOC, eTel = @eTEL, ePhone = @ePhone, eMobile = @eMobile, q1 = @q1, inMDDmn = @inMDDmn, inMDDyr = @inMDDyr, inMDDRetIns = @inMDDRetIns, outMDDmn = @outMDDmn, outMDDyr = @outMDDyr, outMDDRetIns = @outMDDRetIns, insNo = @insNo, q2 = @q2, qper2 = @qper2, qplc2 = @qplc2, q3 = @q3, qper3 = @qper3, qplc3 = @qplc3, q4 = @q4, qper4 = @qper4, pic1 = @pic1, pic2 = @pic2, pic3 = @pic3, esigdt = @esigdt, CCHName = @CCHName, CCHTitle = @CCHTitle, CCHsigdt = @CCHsigdt, username = @username, levent = @levent, eventdate = @eventdate, eventtime = @eventtime WHERE (ePRN = @ePRN) and the code behind which i have to write will be something like thiscmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure; cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@eName", ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox1")).Text);cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ePRN", ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox2")).Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@cID", ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox3")).Text);cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@eCC", ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox4")).Text); ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox7")).Text = ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox7")).Text + ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox6")).Text + ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox5")).Text;cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@sDate", ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox7")).Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@eLOC", ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox8")).Text);cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@eTel", ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox9")).Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@ePhone", ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox10")).Text); cmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@eMobile", ((TextBox)FormView1.FindControl("TextBox11")).Text); So is there any way to do it better than this way ?? Thank you
What is the easiest way to accomplish this task with SSIS?
Basically I have a stored procedure that unions multiple queries between databases. I need to be able to export this to a text file on a daily basis and add a total records: row to the end of the text file.
i have a text file that is like:date = OCT0606asdfsdafasdfasdgsdghasdfsdfasdgSTART-OF-DATAasdfasdfgasdfgdfgsfgsadfsdfgsaasdfgsdfgEND-OF-DATAasdfgalsdkdfklmlkmasdfgasdfgi need to clear everything from this file except the data between theSTART-OF-DATA and END-OF-DATA using a batcj file... elternitavly i amopen to suggestions of how to import using bulk insert in sql withoutchanging the file at all. data is pipe seperated but obvioulsy hasplenty of junk data in it. i have 2 similar files at about 30mb and60mb in size. thnks everyone
I am parsing a directory of flat files and looping through it with a foreach loop. Some of the files have lines that contain characters that I would like to remove. In fact, it would be good if I could remove the entire line. Is there a way to do this with a Script Task or some other way.
Basically remove any line that start with a "#" or any blank lines..
I am assuming you can do this only using a script component and not directly through ssis..but i am not too familiar with scripting...so some code would be helpful
I have a very simple question, how do i read the first couple of lines only from a flat file source. Let me illustrate with an example:
**Source file***
Date of refresh 04/05/06 **
abc, 123
bac, 156
I need a way to read the first line 'Date of refresh 04/05/06 **' and get the date '04/05/06' ; and store the date in a variable.
Right now, I have a flat file source and a script component, which receives a connection from the flat file source, The script component is reading the lines, but thrice instead of once. It would be great if I can program the script component to terminate after reading the first line only. Any help would be appreciated very much.
I am trying to bcp import a text file into a SQL Server 2000 database. The text file is coming out of a java application where orderinformation is written to the text file. Each record is on it's ownrow, so the last item in each record has a new line character at theend of it to create the next row. This works well in creating the filehowever bcp does not like to import this text file with the extra blankline at the end. If I change the new line character to the beginning ofthe records then there is a blank line at the top of the text file, which bcp also does not like. Does anyone have any suggestions for meto get around this issue? Thanks,
SQL SERVER 2000: My problem is that I have to process a special text file every day which contains 0 ASCII values to separate fields. The DTS import program drops everything after the ascii 0 value in the row, but of course I need the entire row with all fields. So how can I prevent the text file import task from dropping everything after the 0 ascii value?
I can't believe it's been a few days and I can't figure this out. We have a flat file (purchaseOrder.txt) that has header and detail lines. It gets dropped in a folder. I need to pick it up and insert it into normalized tables and/or transform it into another file structure or .NET class.
10001,2005/01/01,some more data SOME PRODUCT 1, 10 SOME PRODUCT 2, 5
Can somebody place give me some guidance on how to do this in SSIS?
I have used the following useful article regarding exporting a multi-record file: http://vsteamsystemcentral.com/cs21/blogs/steve_fibich/archive/2007/09/25/multi-record-formated-flat-file-with-ssis.aspx
I have created the 9 datasources, ordering each on a field commmon to all.
I have created the required derived columns headers and have merged all the record types into a file.
The resulting file looks fine, except for the odd blank line between record types. Any ideas regarding cause and what to do to fix?
I have a task where I need to process roughly 60000 excel spreadsheets and bring them into a SQL Server 2014 database. All excel files have the same format and same number of identical columns. I have set up an SSIS package that is using Foreach Loop Container to look into a folder and process these files one at a time and load them to a table. The mappings are straight-forward, no problems there.
I am attaching a sample spreadsheet with two tabs - current structure and desired structure.
Basically what I need to do is to repeat the first 7 columns based on the number of lines in a transaction.
I have defined an email as a .html file on my server: /Emails/email.htmlThis file defines what the email will look like and in the text I have placed tags that need to be replaced with values.A tag that requires replacement looks like: <#SENDERNAME> or <#RECEIVERNAME>I want to replace these tags with the names of the sender and the receiver respectively.AFTER this is done the email needs to be sent to the receiver's address, let's say: receiver@yes.comI want to create a stored procedure that takes as input the sender and receivername AND receiveraddress. It then uses the file I have defined on my server, replaces the tags and sends the email. How can I do this?!
Is there a way I can use one SQL server 2005 (full edition not express) Stored procedure that can execute a .SQL file as if it were in the SQL management studio Query window? I have the situation where I have some .SQL file which were created with the 'Create to File' option in SQL Management studio. I then want to send them to a user who can execute them to create a SP on his SQL server without having to run the SQL management tools. Regards Clive
Hi.. I have a website in which the user uploads a text file to the webserver. and then i am calling a stored procedure which loads the data into the staging database using bulk copy. since my sql database and the web server are in different machines but on the same domain.. i am accessing the .txt file from the stored procedure by giving http://Ipaddress/ApplicationName/Directory/plan.txt and the format file using the same address i.e http://Ipaddress/ApplicationName/Directory/plan.fmt
But when i press ctrl + click on the text file it take me to that location but when i do the same for the format file it says the page cannot be found.. Since it cannot access the .fmt file my import doesnt work. Any help will be appreicated.. Thank you, Karen
i have a stored procedure and i want to run a program from it.. i think that i need use api functions but how can i do that.. if there is a nother ways please tell me..
hi,i am passing a xml file name to the stored procedure. the SP parses the file. but it is giving the error' INVALID AT THE TOP LEVEL OF THE DOCUMENT 'I expect this because of + and - in the xml file bafore the parent tags.how can i do the parser to eliminate these.
Anyone have the code used in DTS to make a connection to Excel? Or perhaps a better idea? I need to pass different file names to a stored procedure which would upload the spreadsheet data into SQL7 on demand.
I've been administering SQL Server for quite a while, but have managed until now to stay out of the development side. I find myself finally writing some complex SProcs. What I want to do is to create a "switch", i.e., a parameter that will output a few lines of text characterizing the SProc, with such information as required & optional parameters, potential "gotchas", and a handful of examples of usage. I want this to be able to work like this:
EXEC spMySProc '?' or EXEC spMySproc 'help'
This has to work even if there are multiple required parameters.
Reading through the forums, I found some great imformation for importing/exporting an excel spreadsheet via a stored procedure, however, the amount of data I have won't fit in excel. Can someone help me export a CSV file via a stored procedure? I don't know if XML is the answer or if there is another way. I am able to use Bulk for an insert of a csv via stored procudure, although it doesn't allow me to use a variable for the file name and pass it in. We are currently using SQL Server 2000.
I have a bulk insert script. I have a stored procedure. I saved the stored procedure as a .sql file in another folder too. I have another program that can "run external program" and the only files it will run is a .bat or .exe. I want my other program to be able to trigger the stored procedure to run. I think this means I need a .bat file.
Here is my stored procedure:
USE [EricaTraining] GO /****** Object: StoredProcedure [dbo].[LoadDailyAdjReport] Script Date: 03/29/2013 10:56:42 ******/ SET ANSI_NULLS ON GO
Hello everybody,I have a file with several asp functions where some depend on others. Some of the functions I will need to transform a string value. How can I include these functions in a stored procedure? (in SqlServer 2000)Do I have to add all the functions as userdefined functions?Or is possible to reference the external file like include files inasp?Thank you for your help!Regards,Michael
I need to develop some crystal reports on some .NET ado datasets. This is easy to do if I actually had data to work with. It is mucheaser creating reports with you have data. Therefore, I would like to run the stored procedure that the .NET adodataset is built on and generate an XML file. I could run the projectand try to figure out where the developers are making the call to thestored procedure and insert a line to writetoxmlfile. I would rathernot have to mess with their code.Is there a way working with SQL Server (either query analyzer orenterprise manager, dts, or whatever) that I can generate an xml file.I see that I can run a stored procedure and get an xml style return inquery analyzer, but I don't know how to save that as an actual file. Thanks for the help.Tony
