I've read about this hotfix at http://www.kbalertz.com/Feedback_933097.aspx but I can't find anything on microsoft.com about it. It sounds like a worthwhile hotfix, but I'm wondering about the absence of an announcement on microsoft.com.
I have recently applied the latest cumulative upgrade 3 for SP2 for SQL Server 2005 (KB939537) to have all the hotfixes needed since the SP2, and to correct a specific one : the 50001440 (SQL Server may fail to generate a plan for a complex query that involves cursors and error 8623 occurs - KB940128).
But it is not included in this latest cumulative upgrade package. I read the new policy about CU but I can not know if the 50001440 hotfix is candidate for the CU :
Cumulative update (CU)
€¢ The update can be requested by any customer, regardless of their support offering.
€¢ The update is released every 2 months.
€¢ The update contains the following:
€¢ All previous critical on-demand hotfixes to date.
Fixes for issues that meet hotfix acceptance criteria. These criteria include workaround availability, customer effect, reproducibility, the complexity of the code that must be changed, and so on.
Another bug, the 50001317 (You may receive error messages when you try to log in to an instance of SQL Server 2005 and SQL Server handles many concurrent connections - KB937745) : it is included in the upgrade 2 for SP2 but not in the upgrade3.
So, is it needed to apply each cumulative upgrade or only the latest CU ? And if it is only the latest CU, why are there missing hotfix ?
I am trying to install sql2005-kb918222-x86-enu.exe, first one in the x86 family. I am getting "This machine does not have a product that matches this installation package".
I have SP1 is installed. Version and patch level are 9.1.2047. on
We are trying to Install the Hot fix KB936305 on our SQL 2005 SP2 on Win2k3 machine. We are able to install the hotfix in our test environment but its failing in our PILOT environment. Below is the log for the installation. Any clues on why this happens??

When I attempt to generate scripts via SSMS for several databases on this server (x64 Enterprise Windows 2003 Server SP1), I receive a "severe error" message. I have run DBCC commands of various sorts and backed up and restored but the error persists.
I have read other posts on this forum that seem to be asking about related issues and the response appears to be "talk with support" or "post a bug report". What should I do? Any assistance would be appreciated.
This file is generated by Microsoft SQL Server version 9.00.3152.00 upon detection of fatal unexpected error. Please return this file, the query or program that produced the bugcheck, the database and the error log, and any other pertinent information with a Service Request.
Computer type is AT/AT COMPATIBLE. Current time is 16:55:02 03/20/07. 4 Unknown CPU 9., 2205 Mhz processor (s). Windows NT 5.2 Build 3790 CSD Service Pack 1.
I've got a SQL 2K5 installation that I have upgraded to 9.0.3152. In SSMS, I see the SQL Server instance showing with the correct version - 9.0.3152. But SSMS (Help->About) shows a version of 9.00.3042. Is this expected or should "Cumulative hotfix package (build 3152) for SQL Server 2005 Service Pack 2 is available" (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/933097/) have upgraded all these to 3152, as well?
Thanks!

I believe that I mistakenly attempted to apply the Analysis Services component of this update before applying the SQL Server component. The update now fails continuously with the following message:

The update fails although I have cleaned the registry of any reference to it. Another article indicated that the hotfix may delete registry keys required, for instance, to operated SSIS if applied in the wrong order. Here, it appears to be preventing the hotfix from being reapplied. I have ensured that all necessary permissions are available and the services are running in domain user accounts with the necessary rights. I'm the administrator on the machine.
Is there a way to get this hotfix applied without having to completely rip and rebuild my server instance?
We are performing a SQL 2005 SP1 upgrade from SQL 2000 on our Windows 2003 SP1 Standard Edition.
When we run the upgrade, we got a error "Upgrade Advisor Return -1" as a pop-up window.
When we run the Upgrade Advisor separately, we get this error :

We are running a test upgrade form sql 2000 standard edition 32 bit to sql 2005 developer edition 32bit. Followed through all the steps and specified the account(SA priveleges and currently used by the 2000 version) and is the local admin on the box for the services and the setup seemed to move fine, except for when it got to the point of installing database services - This is the error message that I got:
MSSQLServer could not be started. Verify you have sufficient priveleges to start system services. The was no choice but to hit cancel and then the set up progressed with a final message of 'SEtup failed'.

I am out of brain cells. I can not figure out how to upgrade instances of sql express to sql 2005 or even add an instance of sql 2005. I have installed/upgraded everything else (SSMS, etc.) to SQL 2005. I am dazed and confused. I don't even know where to start in explaining what I have tried and done. I have 303 log files going back to 3/27/2007 from various attempts. Where do I start in figuring this debacle out???
I currently have SQL Server Management Studio Express 2005 and would like to upgrade my machine to SQL Developer 2005 as easily as possible. Keeping my databases and such.
Any recommendations on the best way to do this would be greatly appreciated.
I am trying to upgrade SQL Server Express 2005 Report Server to SQL 2005 Standard and it fails with the following error:
SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to copy a file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting ServicesReportServer ssrvpolicy.config. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
After I click OK on the message, this whole path where the upgrade is bieng installed dissapears C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting Services. The error is a bit missleading because the file that it is trying to copy rssrvpolicy.config does appear in that upgrade folder so I am not sure why it would try to copy a file that has already been copied.
I was able to upgrade the Database Engine instance fine but can't upgrade Reporting Services due to that error. I have verified that the account that ran the setup had the administrator permissions. Your prompt reply to my question would be greatly appreciatted.

I've been reading and looking over what to do for my situation for several days. I need to ask and see if I can get a clear answer.
My Scenario: I have a SQL Server 2005 Eval installed that is currently running with live data. I need to upgrade that to a recently-purchased full version. I have several databases set up. I have ready the article 914158 that states it will fail. It's still running so I can access everything. If I restart or stop the service I'm screwed.
we have installed SQL 2005 Standard and we are planning to upgrade to SQL 2005 Enterprise version. Do i need to uninstall SQL 2005 Standard and reinstall Enterprise or i can install SQL 2005 Enterprise on top of standard version to upgrade.
i have a server which is configured with sql 2005 and when i schedule a backup all the databases do not get listed while selecting (all databases) while scheduling ...then i found that there are some databases with the cmpt level 70 and those databases do not get listed while scheduling backup,, is there any solution for this ... how to change the cmpt level.. from 70 to 90, is there any precautions i need to take care ....is it possible to do the above...pls help
We need to update our SQL 2000 to 2005. We plan to use it on a computer with 2 processors. Actually we update 2 servers that form a cluster, running web applications. I think there is no update version from 2000 to 2005. So we have to buy 2 full versions of SQL 2005? For our case it's probably best to buy SQL 1CPU version? But we have 2 processors on each server. Is there a CPU license? Do we have to buy 2 SQL 2005 1CPU plus 2 licenses for 1 (more) CPU? Sorry, I am not so familiar with SQL. I am not the guy making the upgrade. I just have to order the correct version and licenses.
We currently have a deployment of SQL 2000 on three production 32 Bit servers. One server to house the Data, one server for Analysis Service Cubes, and one for Reporting Services. At the time of this deployment, this was Microsoft's recommendation.
If we upgrade to SQL 2005 and also upgrade our systems to 64 Bit systems. What are the recommendations for Analysis Services and Reporting Services? Do they still require separate servers or can they reside on the same server?
I have a Windows 2003 server running both a MSDE and SQL 2005 Database. I want to upgrade SQL to SP1. Does anyone know if upgrding SQL 2005 to SP1 will affect the MSDE?
We would like to apply a hotfix to solve the issue that brought our server down. The hotfix we are trying to apply is in Build 3175. But the latest Cumulative Update 3 Package is Build 3186. Should we apply 3175? Or we can go for the latest build 3186? Which is recommended?
Is there anyone know where to get the hotfix to put the "Select All" option back on multi-value parameter list after SP1? The reason why I didn't install SP2 because it requires to install print control on client side. At the moment our company try to avoid it. Or is there a way to avoid this print control? I hope to see some responses from MSFT support team.
I have SP1 on most of my servers. My users however do not. They have been developing using "select all" and are now ready to deploy a major project, I am in the process of installing the hotfix so my question is "they do not have SP1 and I have SP1 along with the hotfix" will that work or does this hot fix require that the client tools have SP1 and the hotfix applied as well"? They do not want to change their development environment since they are so close to deployment of their reports. Thank you!!
Iam at the completion of my project and iam facing a crash from the sql server 2005 .....Microsoft have agreed it to be their bug in the following article
