I am facing a problem while installing Sql server 2005 Developer edition on Windows XP Professional SP 2 , It says Cannot install native client use correct SQLCLNI.msi file and Native client installation fails also the set up for client tools fails.
I'm installing SQL 2005 Developer Edition, instalation always fails with the error "Could not find a package to install on the installation media". The summary.txt is pasted bellow:
Microsoft SQL Server 2005 9.00.1399.06 ============================== OS Version : Microsoft Windows XP Professional Service Pack 2 (Build 2600) Time : Mon Nov 05 10:47:30 2007
IA-PJPATRICIO : Could not find a package to install on the installation media.
SQL Server Setup failed. For more information, review the Setup log file in %ProgramFiles%Microsoft SQL Server90Setup BootstrapLOGSummary.txt.
I have an instance of SQL 2000 installed on the same machine, i'm trying to install Analises Services 2005 only, but instalation fails with any of the SQL Server 2005 components.
When I try to install SQL Server 2005 evaluation edition, I keep getting the message that SQL server setup has detected beta components of SQL Server 2005 or Visual Studio 2005 which must be uninstalled for setup to continue. I have removed all beta components like sql 2005 ctp, visual studio 2005 beta, etc from my computer and yet it keeps giving me this message.
PLease help!!!! I am unable to install SQL Server 2005 evaluation edition.
I just installed SQL Server 2005 on Windows Vista Basic platform with just windows authentication, installation went pretty well, but when I tried to logon to the server, it gave me error "Logon failed with error code 18456".
I logged on as administrator, service for SQL server is started, but I can't logon. Can you please help.
I run setup using GUI. It upgrades all components of the existing installation w/out any problems except the last component. That is, it proceeds with the installation of SQL Server Database Serices and at the end fails to shut down the SQL Server and aborts the installation reporting the following:
"Service 'Computer_NameSQLEXPRESS' could not be stopped. Verify that you have sufficient privileges to stop system services. The error code is (16386)".
I am running Windows XP SP2 with both .NET 2.0 and .NET 3.0 installed on it. I am logged in as a system administrator.
The most puzzling to me things are:
- the setup starts AND STOPS w/out any problems SQL Server Reporting Services and SQL Server VSS Writer (thus finding enough privileges for both).
- the setup starts the SQL Server w/out any problems (thus it finds enough privileges to START A SYSTEM SERVICE) and then fails as described above 'lucking privileges".
During installation before failing the setup displays following:
"Run as Normal User. RANU instance Shutdwon in progress: MSSQL$SQLEXPRESS". The "normal user" puzzles me too, unless the SQL Server itself is meant here.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I can provide the installation log file as well.
Is it possible to install SQL Server 2005 Eval on a Virtual PC 2007 client running Server 2008 Beta? Nothing says it isn't possible, it says I need to service pack it right away, but before it gets started it comes up with the error 'sqlcu.dll failed to load'. Anyone know what this is all about?
I have been unable to install SQL Express 2005 Server on my Windows 2003 Server (with SP2 installed). I keep getting an error message saying that Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 is not installed.
So, I downloaded Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 v2 (WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe) but whenever I try to install it I get an error message saying that "the Service Pack version of this system is newer than the update you are applying" and that there is no need to install the update and it stops there.

Is there a workaround to this? How can I get Microsoft Windows Installer 3.1 installed? I tried going to the Windows Update site, I already have everything installed and I even started the Windows Installer service manually. Has anyone else experienced this?
How can I get SQL Server 2005 Express installed if not how can I install SQL Server 2000 on tihs machine? The only reason I am trying to install SQL Server 2005 is because wanted to try it so I uninstalled SQL Server 2000 now I can no longer install SQL Server 2000 again because it won't let me because of the SP2 patch.
I am trying to install the professional edition of SQL Server 2005 on a new PC with xp pro. I have tried several times with several options but the installation is stalled with the error message that "The drop location is missing file(s) that allow setup to determine how a multi instance product should be installed. Setup cannot continue, please repair the drop and try again."
Does anyone know what the probelm is and how to fix this?
Below is the error message receive when installing SQL 2005 (x64) enterprise edition.

I have installed SBS 2003 Premium with Exchange 2003 SP1 and now I want to install SQL server 2005 workgroup edition.
Heres what I noticed during setup, following the steps of the Server 2005 Workgroup Edition instructions, starting with Upgrading the Sharepoint instance of WMSDE.
Preparing the http://companyweb website: Step 4. I should make a backup of the data directory within program filesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL$SHAREPOINT directory. However there is no data-directory there, so nothing to backup there. This is probably the reason for all the rest of the issues, however what does it mean, why is there no such directory present? I checked before doing the sql install that by going to http://companyweb I did indeed land on the sharepoint internal website.
Rest goes all normal, until : Attaching the databasefiles to the new SHAREPOINT instance of SQL server 2005.
Step 4.: go to MSSQL$SHAREPOINTdata. Not only is there no such subdirectory now, the whole MSSQL$SHAREPOINT directory has in fact now disappeared. So steps 4 till 6 cannot be performed now.
Then further to Enable full text search in Windows Sharepoint services Step 2. Remark: I get the error message as described there, however the solution would be to start the SQL server (Shareoint service. However that service is up and running
Furthermore when I go to http://companyweb now, I also get the errormessage indicating no connection can be established with the configuration database.
When I check for services, I find that the whole MSSQL$SHAREPOINT service has disappeared from the list of services.
When i installing SQL Server in my server then i recieve this massege can any one help me regarding :

I had SQL Server 7 installed on my Windows 98 machine (desktop installation). I have installed another piece of software recently which has buggered SQL Server ! I uninstalled SQL Server and tried to re-install. Each time that the setup program tries to connect to the server the machine stops responding. I have tried this a number of times and have noticed that occasionally one of my dial up network connections fires up when the "Connecting to server..." message appears.
Wondering if there is a different way to setup mail because of Windows Server 2003 instead of Windows Server 2000? The server I'm being asked to get mail working on will have an exchange email account and I'm not familiar with setting this up. On my 2000 machine I had to use Outlook 2000 with option for Corporate or Workgroup an a POP email account. Any help is appreciated.
I currently have a SQL Server cluster setup with a Primary DB Server SERVER1 and the Standby server SERVER2. SERVER1 has been failing more than normal is the past few weeks and its takes upto 5 mins for SERVER2 realize that SERVER1 is down. I am looking for a better way to implement a backup server on production with minimum downtime. Please adivse..
I just upgraded ACT database and it needs SQL Server. I just keep getting "SQL Server Setup Failed". I downloaded SQL from Microsoft, went to install and get the same error. It then refers to a summary txt log which I have had a look at but to be quite honest means nothing to me.
I am attempting to write a Windows service that watches a database for uploaded files to import. When a new file is found, the corresponding SSIS package is run from the file system with variables passed through. I started development as a Windows app and copied the functionality to a service.
The app runs fine. The service does not. I get a "Failure" each time a package is executed. Everything is identical behind the scenes with the obvious exceptions that OnStart and OnStop handlers are buttons in the app. I added a script task at the beginning of one of the SSIS packages to notify me that it is even running at all. It doesn't even hit that initial task.
Again, the app will run all packages just fine. The data is imported and the results return as "Success."
The following is the code executing the package. Any help is appreciated. I've been banging my head on this one for a few days now. (Is there a tag to format a code sample?)
Dim pkgLocation As String Dim pkg As New Package Dim app As New Application Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult
My uncle runs a small networking company and has extra licenses for Windows 2003 Server as well as SQL Server 2000. Since I just graduated from college and have started working as a database programmer (for a different company) I'd like to setup a small server at home to learn more about SQL (as well as networking, but SQL is my primary concern). I know I can setup SQL Server 2000 on my main PC, but I'd still like to set everything up in a server environment.
So, what I'm wondering is if any books (or web sites?) exist that walk you through setting up Windows 2003 Server and SQL Server 2000. I've actually set these up before (it's not very complicated) but I'm not sure if I did it the "correct" way.
Ideally if any books exist on O'Reilly's Safari Bookshelf that would be even better.
I am using SQLXML 3 on a Windows 2003 server Running IIS 6.0. I used SQLXML configure IIS Support to create a virtual directry on this server to connect to MS SQL Server 2000 instance running on another windows 2003 server.
Configurations for the virtual directory are
1. Used Windows integrated authentication.
2. Created template for executing the stored procedure.
When i try to access the DB Server through a browser i am prompted to provide for Windows authentication. Even if i provide the domain user that has administrtive rights on both the server i am getting a response.
If from MMC i change the properties of the virtual directry to enable anonymous acess using the cridentials that i mentioned earlier, everything is working fine. I have been searching the net for 2 days and tried everything that i could find but still i keep getting the same error.
In testing new patches, I tried Windows 2003 Server SP2 and our JDBC connections stopped working. I uninstalled SP2 and they started working again. Anyone know where the problem is?
I have already read pages of documentation, but I will keep looking. Please let me know if you know the setting that needs to be changed. I'm assuming it is a new "security enhancement" but I'm just not sure exactly where.

I need to get the Backup System working again urgently. Any advice will be greatly appreciated
I cant figure out why this is happening.. its a fresh 2003 x64 R2 sp2 server, during the installation of the SQL Server Database Services the server hangs and displays Setting File Security. I let the install run for over 45 mins and it still hangs... the log file is useless.. i cant find any clues as to why ...
Hi, i tried to install SQL Server 2000 Developer and MSDE the whole day on my Windows XP SP2. MDAC is the latest, that come with WinXP SP2 (2.81). The installation fails at the end after 100% complete.
It says: Translated: "the setup programm starts the server and installs the configuration you chose..." ("das setup-programm startet den server und installiert die von ihnen gewählte konfiguration...")
then it takes some time and the failure appears, saying: "the setup programm could not configure the server. you can find more information in the server-failure-log files and in "C:windowssqlstp.log."
VERY frustrating. I have tried uninstalling. removing regietry keys. removing with the windows unistaller etc... to NO avial. See my Core.Log:

We have been using Sql Server 2005 Compact Edition 3.1 RDA synchronization method successfully on Sql Server 2000 database. Recently we moved the database to Sql Server 2005, sync doesn't work anymore, it just hangs on one table. On further investigation, we found out that it's the index on that table that causes this. We removed the index, it works fine. We are wondering the root cause, removing the index is not a solution for us. Any thoughts?. Thanks.
Hello, I would like to know if anyone here has any information on how to change the default version of SQL Server 2005 Express which ships with Visual Studio 2005 to the new SQL 2005 Express SERVICE PACK 1?
I see a file under disc:vswcuSSESQLEXPR.exe I am wondering if changing that file with the new one from Microsoft Download Center will do it...
There's another file under that folder named sqlexpr32.exe I am wondering what it's for?

I have aquired Windows XP Embedded. I went to install the Database, with SQL Server 2005 Express Edition and it said that MSDE 2000 or higher is required. I found in the MSDN library that one may use SQL Server 2005 Express to install the database, however, the installation is not finding my SQL Server instance, please help!
I am trying to upgrade SQL Server Express 2005 Report Server to SQL 2005 Standard and it fails with the following error:
SQL Server Setup did not have the administrator permissions required to copy a file: C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting ServicesReportServer ssrvpolicy.config. To continue, verify that the file exists, and either grant administrator permissions to the account currently running Setup or log in with an administrator account. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
After I click OK on the message, this whole path where the upgrade is bieng installed dissapears C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.8Reporting Services. The error is a bit missleading because the file that it is trying to copy rssrvpolicy.config does appear in that upgrade folder so I am not sure why it would try to copy a file that has already been copied.
I was able to upgrade the Database Engine instance fine but can't upgrade Reporting Services due to that error. I have verified that the account that ran the setup had the administrator permissions. Your prompt reply to my question would be greatly appreciatted.
I am trying to install SQL 2005 in a 2-node virtual Windows 2003 cluster. I set the cluster up through Virtual Server 2005 with 2 virtual nodes and one virtual domain. The nodes can connect to each other as well as the physical machine. When I try to install a fresh copy of SQL 2005 on my cluster, I get an error every time. The error stops the installation while checking system configuration after installing prerequisites. The log file entry is as follows:
