IIS Feature Requirement
Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) is either not installed or is disabled. IIS is required by some SQL Server features. Without IIS, some SQL Server features will not be available for installation. To install all SQL Server features, install IIS from Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel or enable the IIS service through the Control Panel if it is already installed, and then run SQL Server Setup again. For a list of features that depend on IIS, see Features Supported by Editions of SQL Server in Books Online.
I already configure IIS7 with all feature, but system still generate above mentioned message.

I could not install SQL Server 2005 Developer edition on my notebook with os Vista Home Premium. I know about the SP2 thing...but before coming that point, I can not either install the SQL Server 2005... When installing, when the database services point comes it gives an error about user thing...and then installation starts to rollback...
I check the IIS configuration from the net...And see that while activating IIS there is no option for Windows Auth. in Home Premium in Control Panel>Program...>Windows Programs.....etc....
SO ON VISTA HOME PREMIUM is SQL SERVER 2005 Dev. Edition can be installed or not?
I have tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express several times with no success. I have followed the instructions to remove all SQL files on the Programs menu. Then, when I attempt to install it again, it only goes as far as the database where it stops and gives the error message: SQL Server cannot write system databases to C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.1MSSQLData because it contains files from a previous installation. To continue, move the databases from the specified folder, or specify a different installation folder. Then run SQL Server Setup again.
It doesn't give options and I can only abort the installation.
Does anyone have a remedy for a technologically challenged person?
Hi, I have Vista Home premium edition and trying to install SQL Server developer edition 2005 as local administrator. I have already enabled IIS 7 and have Office Ultimate 2007 installed. When I run the set up program, I get a warning titled "Program Compatibility Assistant" that my Operating system may not be compatible with the version of sql server I am installing. It says after setup is complete, I should run SP2 of SQL Server 2005 with 3 buttons as "Check for solutions online", "run this program" and "cancel"...
My question, should I select "run this program" and after the setup completes, download SP2 and apply the patch?
I read some articles in forums that sounds like lot of issues to get sql server working on vista. Can some one direct me to correct options. This is my wife's machine so I dont want to experiment too much and blow her machine away. Please help.

I tried downloading all the types of setup for SQLServer 2005 (x86, x64, IA) and the same error occurs.. I am using WinXP SP2, what's behind this stupid errors? I really want to start using SQL Server because i am using VWD 2008 Express. Somebody help me for this please. I need complete details. Thank You very much..
I'm trying (and failing) to get a definitive answer from various MS web sites as to whether or not SQL Server Developer Edition will run on Windows Vista Home (Premium) I've just taken delivery of a shiny new laptop preinstalled with the above, and was looking for some reassurance before shelling out for the software (granted, it's not a lot of money, but even so...)
I've tried everything that I can find on this forum and elsewhere. I CAN'T INSTALL MS SQL 2005 Express on Vista Home Premium 32bit!!!!!! Please! Can someone help??
The error I receive is as follows:
The SQL Server System Configuration Checker cannot be executed due to WMI configuration on the machine NOTPIT-PC Error:2147749907 (0x80041013).
I'm dying here, my productivity is shot... I'm thining about cleaning out my system and going back to XP Pro...
Hi. I've been trying to install Sql Server 2005 express on Vista Home Premium. After the initial files install, I get an error message that says the WMI configuration is not correct. (I'm not at home, so I can't post the exact error code at the moment). Does anyone have any ideas on how I can fix this? Thanks in advance.
Hello What is the minimum vista version required for SQL 2005 installation ? I have Win Vista Home Premium on my new laptop computer, and enabled IIS on it. When I tried to install SQL 2005 developer edition on it, it reported lots of errors and Reporting Services was not even available to select even though IIS itself was enabled. Can some one please help me install sql server 2005 and reporting services on win vista home premium ?
I have not been able to get iis to be seen correctly. I have turned on every service with IIS7 available and still get warning IIS in not running. I have changed computer name to all caps and I am running on admin account. I see IIS7 when I run localhost. What is wrong here. When I go on to install system I get stuck at detecting installed IIS. As I move forward with install owc, DB services,Notification, Intagrated, and workstation components all fail. I cant move onto sp2 because nothing is installed. I have worked on this for months off and on and now I have to have it running for deadline. Any help would be appreciated. I also have VS2005 and office 2007 on this system. I have worked on this the past two days solid and I have to have it now.
Ok guys, I am trying to install Sql server 2005 on Vista but I am still stuck with this warning message in the System Configuration Check during Sql server 2K5 installation :
SQL Server Edition Operating System Compatibility (Warning) Messages * SQL Server Edition Operating System Compatibility
* Some components of this edition of SQL Server are not supported on this operating system. For details, see 'Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2005' in Microsoft SQL Server Books Online.
Now, I know I need to install SP2 but how the hell I am going to install SP2 if Sql server 2005 doesn't install any of the components including Sql server Database services, Analysus services, Reporting integration services( only the workstation component is available for installation)?
Any work around for this issue?
P.S.: I didn't install VS.NET 2005 yet, can this solve the problem?
I am running on Vista Ultimate and Installing Sql Server 2k5 enterprise edition
I have installed the Beta version for Windows Vista and installed VS 2005 for Software Developers which includes SQL Server Express.
When installing the SQL Server express part compatibility issues appear. Do i need to install a fresh copy of SQL Server Express which inlcludes Service Pack 1?
I cannot connect to any mdf file through the data connection section in the VS 2005 IDE. Cant remember the exact error message, something like "Cannot find the entry or starting point".
I am running a fresh install off the latest Dotnetnuke starter kit and get a database compatibility error so my guess is this could also be as a result of SP 1 not being installed?
Help! I'm trying to install SQL Server 2005 on 32-bit Vista RTM. Have tried several editions (Developer, Standard, Enterprise). Have tried installing while logged in as domain user account in machine administrator group as well as built-in Administrator user. Running SETUP program with elevated privilges. Certain portions (Analysis services, Notification services) install correctly, but never the database engine. Always fails consistently with the same error reported. Machine has Visual Studio 2005 installed already, but NOT SQL Server 2005 Express Edition. Error logs reports are below ({computer name} is the name of my machine)

So, I went to the following and did everything documented about installing IIS 7.0.
I just bought a new laptop with Vista pre-installed and was able to install Visual Studio 2005 Pro, but when attempting to install SQL Server 2005 it just hangs at the IIS detection step. I was using the administrative account. I was able to install the Developer Edition of SQL Server 2000, but I need 2005.
Some posts mention IIS version issues and 32 vs 64 bit version issues. Can anyone ellaborate on what is happening and why? What is the work around?
I'm trying to install a version of SQL server 2005 with reporting services on a vista 64 bits.
I've a licence for SQL server 2005 standard edition in French, my vista is in French, and I'm using visual studio standard edition in English to develop. I would like to develop reports using SQL server to include these reports in my applications developped with Visual Studio.
Wich version of SQL server should I install ? I've tryed to install SQL server express 2005 with advanced feature SP2 (english version) and then later the standard edition (French version) (each time uninstalling all SQL server components between tries), but I got problems with reporting services each time.
I got first a warming saying than reporting services is 32 bits and IIS is 64 bits, I so allowed IIS to run 32 bits ASP .Net, but after that, I now get a problem of .Net registration in IIS as warming message on the line concerning Reporting services during the install of SQL Server, and it doesn't even offer to install RS on the next window.
I reinstalled the DotnetFX64 to be sure, but still get the same message. If I look in the IIS the application pools are looking me to be normal, with the ASPNET 32 bit code allowed.
Im encountering yet another problem in Vista(Vista Home Premium). I have turned on all IIS features from control panel. When I open http://localhost it gives the error HTTP Error 404.4 - Not Found
Description: The resource you are looking for does not have a handler associated with it
How should i resolve this?
Also, when I try to install SQL server 2005 express edition, it gives the warning that IIS is not installed, though I have installed all the features and it is running.
I have been struggling for the past one week, just to install SQL server on vista!
While installing SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition on Windows Vista Ultimate the setup alerts me "there are known compatibility problems, please install SP2 after this". So ok, all went nice and installed without error. IIS 7 installed fully, so all green in setup display. (But after installation i do not see any service which begins with SQL***...) At the end, the setup wanted to start the administration Tool. Ok, but my name was not listed, so i could not add me to the permitted users. I can not use any tool, because i have no rights.
Some Ideas?

I installed SQL Server 2005 Enterprise trial on Vista Home Premium. In the process of trying to get SQL Server Management Studio installed I ended up removing everything. Now when I try to install any tool, service, or database of SQL Server 2005 (Enterprise or SQLExpress) the install fails and says that a newer version is already installed but nothing is installed. Rollback my restore points fails too. Seems like I need to clean up the registry somehow????
I am trying to install SQL Express on Window Home XP and SCC is returning the following error:
The SQL Server Configuration Checker cannot b execute due to WMI configuration on the machine ..... Error 2147942405 (0X80070005).
I tried running the following batch file which I believe resolved the same issue that someone else raised earlier (though I am not sure whether the OS was Home XP)
Will upgrading from XP Home to XP Professional (academic version) help me install SQL express successfully>
The Batch file I ran looks like this:

I have SQL Express 2005 SP2 installed in my Vista Home Premium. I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express to manage .mdf.
When I click "Add..." to attach .mdf database, I have this prompt error message :

I have elevated the rights, "Run as administrator", of my SQL Server Management Studio Express, but still having problem.
I also encounter security error when detaching the existing .mdf : The EXECUTE permission was denied on the object 'sp_detach_db', database 'mssqlsystemresource', schema 'sys'. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 229)
