Sql Server User Creation Problem
Mar 28, 2008
I m using SQL server 2005 express edition and management studio express. I m still confused with some terms. What is the difference between a new server registration, a new login and a named instance? I installed sql express using default configuration. It shows that my server name is- TANVIRSQLEXPRESS (where Tanvir is my hostname) and it uses windows authentication. I created a new log in from Security>logins in the object explorer of express manager. In the property of this new login I just put the login name and gave password under sql server authentication and leaving everything else as default. I have enabled tcp/ip for both sqlexpress and client protocol in Sql server configuration manger. YET, I cant log in using my new log in name and password. I got the following error-
Cannot connect to TANVIRSQLEXPRESS.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
Login failed for user 'Tanvir'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 18452)
------------------------------
I just want to know HOW to create a user with password in sql express edition.

We normally map a single SQL user to all application users . From performance standpoint and from best practices perspective , what is the preferred method of mapping OS users to SQL users viz one to one OR many to one .

HI everybody...
Can anyone help me to know the
Query to Create SQL database Users in MS SQL
through the query engine of MS SQL Server Management Studio..
I am struggling with the same and I tried the one
create user <user_name> for login <login_name>.
But it seems that it will create the windows user itself and not the sql user.
I want a query similar to create user <user_name> identified by <password> which is used in ORACLE.
Please help me in this situation.
Thanks in advance

Hi,
Strange question here. When I script a user to be created for a database deployment, I get the following script:
USE [DatabaseX]
GO
IF NOT EXISTS (SELECT * FROM sys.database_principals WHERE name = N'newuser')
CREATE USER [newuser] WITHOUT LOGIN WITH DEFAULT_SCHEMA=[dbo]
Now, this creates the user at the 'DatabaseX' db level, but not at the 'master' db level. The user "newuser" is then not allowed access to do anything in 'DatabaseX', such as execute queries, update tables, etc.
I had to modify our script to be like this:
USE [master]
GO
CREATE LOGIN [newuser]
WITH PASSWORD=N'somepassword',
DEFAULT_DATABASE=[DatabaseX]
GO
USE [DatabaseX]
GO
CREATE USER [newuser] FOR LOGIN [newuser]
GO
USE [DatabaseX]
GO
EXEC sp_addrolemember N'db_owner', N'newuser'
GO
This allows the "newuser" to execute queries, update tables, etc. in 'DatabaseX',
Is there some option in SSMSE that I'm missing when I'm having it generate my user scripts that it's leaving the rest of the script out?
Thanks in advance for your help

Hello. I'm trying to create a new login and username inside a trigger using variables.
This code works:
create login testUserName with password = 'testPassword'
The problem comes when I try to use variables for the username and password like this.
create login @username with password = @password
Does anybody know how to get around this problem?
BTW, the error message it gives is this, but I really doubt that semicolons have anything to do with it. If I literally type my data in the create login call it works fine, but when I use variables it doesn't.
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 14
Incorrect syntax near '@username'.
Msg 319, Level 15, State 1, Line 14
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'with'. If this statement is a common table expression or an xmlnamespaces clause, the previous statement must be terminated with a semicolon.

We have an SSAS instance where when we run the query "select * from $system.discover_traces" the creation time in the resultset shows a different time from when we actually started the trace.
for example if we have create the trace at 3.30pm it shows 7.35 pm in the Sql server management studio resultset when we run the query "select * from $system.discover_traces".

A recent SharePoint upgrade has rendered several views obsolete. I am redefining them so that our upper level executive reports show valid data.(yes, I know that doing anything to sharepoint could cause MS to deny support, having said that, this is something I've inherited and need to fix, pronto) The old view was created like so:
USE [AHMC]
GO
/****** Object: View [dbo].[vwSurgicalVolumes] Script Date: 09/04/2015 09:28:03 ******/
SET ANSI_NULLS ON
GO
SET QUOTED_IDENTIFIER ON
GO
CREATE VIEW [dbo].[vwSurgicalVolumes] AS
SELECT
[code]....
As I said, this view is used in a report showing surgical minutes.SharePoint is now on a new server, which is linked differently (distributed?) I've used OPENQUERY to get my 'new' query to work;
SELECT *
FROM OPENQUERY ([PORTALWEBDB], 'SELECT
--AllLists
AL.tp_ID AS ALtpID
,AL.tp_WebID as altpwebid
,AL.tp_Title AS ALTitle
[code]....
My data (ie surgical minutes, etc) seems to be in the XML column, AUD.tp_ColumnSet . So I need to parse it out and convert it to INT to maintain consistency with the previous view. How do I do this within the context of the view definition? Here is a representation of the new and old view data copied to excel :
<datetime1>2014-08-14T04:00:00</datetime1><float1>2.000000000000000e+000</float1><float2>4.190000000000000e+002</float2><float3>1.600000000000000e+001</float3><float4>8.110000000000000e+002</float4><sql_variant1 xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:sqltypes="http://schemas.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2004/sqltypes"
[Code] ....
can't format it to make it look decent. InHouseCases =2, InHouseMinutes=419, OutPatientCases =16, OutPatientMinutes=1230. This corresponds to the new data I can see in the XML column; 2.000000000000000e+000 is indeed 2 and 4.190000000000000e_002 is indeed 419.

Login Failed for user , the user is not associated with a trusted sql server connection. (microsoft SQL Server,Error:18452)
hi ,
i am getting the above error message once in a while maybe two or 3 times a week , and then it goes away in 10 to 15 minutes or 5 minutes ,
our mode is set to mixed and we are able to connect and use both sql and windows , but once in a while , it will give us the above message when we try connecting throught sql server management studio client (using sql 05) using windows login , although it lets us connect using sql login while the windows login is denied, and after a while it lets us connect with both.
occurs randomly on some days , we run our servers on VM ware virtual machines using windows 2003 r2 enterprise 64 bit with sp2 with esx 301 virtual machine.
would appericate any feedback on this thanks

Hi
Last week I was receiving an error when trying to connect to two of our seven sql servers from my laptop via my domain admin account. The only fix was to have my laptop rebuilt and everything re-installed.
Today however another administrator is starting to have the same problem but to only one of the seven servers!
When that administrator uses my laptop with her domain admin account it works!?
What could possibly be going wrong with our laptops? We have not installed or changed anything.
The full error message we see:
Login failed for user ''. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. (Microsoft Sql Server, Error: 18452)
The error being logged on the server: (two errors are logged each time)
SSPI handshake failed with error code 0x8009030c while establishing a connection with integrated security; the connection has been closed. [CLIENT: 53.35.165.148]

I'm trying to create an SSIS package that will do a straight data copy between databases. The problem is that the underlying schema of the origin may change and the requirement is that the transfer be table driven. i.e. the tables that are copied are listed in a table and there should be no human intervention when the schema changes.
I'm moving data between SQL Server and SQL Azure, so backup and restore doesn't work. Has to be an SSIS package.
What's the best way to deal with a changing schema in an SSIS package? Can I delete and rewrite the underlying XML for any tables that change? Do I need to do it programmatically with C#? Do I need to create the package from scratch each time?

We've tried to use the 'allow update' option but it won't work. I can't remove lines from sysaltfiles.
We need tempdb to use 4 other devices for performance but it won't remember it's definition because it failed each time. Here the log entry:
CREATE FILE encountered operating system error 21(The device is not ready.) while attempting to open or create the physical file 'Q:MSSQLData emp2.ndf'.
Now I found information on how to resolve this on 2000:

By using a trace flag but I don't see how I can use this on 2005 ! Can someone help me ?

I would like to know if there is a way to find out who changed a users roles/access WITHOUT using the audit function. For example, if a user account was created and given SA access then changed to read only, how can I find out who made that change? I tried searching for an answer, but kept getting no results. I'm thinking this may tie into the sys.sysusers view?

Hi,
I have a copy of VS2005 and i have installed the Microsoft SQL Server Developer Edition
I am trying to do my first connection using ASP.net (yay for me...) and it has failed...with this error..Login failed for user 'testuser'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection.
can someone please point out why? yes i know that the error seems pretty straight forward but how do i fix it? like how do i make the user a trusted server connection? where do i do it? and what are the steps? the user is an administrator and by rights should have all access to everything....
connection string
SqlConnection MySQLConnection; MySQLConnection = new SqlConnection("server=cmptrname\databsename;uid=testuser;password=password;database=mytest");
btw while your reading do you have any examples of opening a db with the connection string in the web.config file? because i get some error "connection string has not been initialised" using the
system.Configuration.ConfigurationManager.AppSettings.Get
i though i would stick to the top code first before i tackled the web config error first....
Thanks heaps
