SqlConnection Access Is Denied Exception With SQL Server 2005

Feb 21, 2006

Hi,
I have a SqlConnection object with connection string, "Data Source=server1;Initial Catalog=CDCollection;User Id=joe;Password=11111."

For User ID, I created a new user "joe" in the Management Studio.

I tried to use this user, but sqlconnection threw an exception stating access was denied.

I noticed that SQL Server 2005 has user accounts that you can create for the server and for the database, but I am confused by this.  How can a create a non-sa user account that I can give to the SQLConnection object that will work?  Do I need to create a user for the server and the same user for the database CDCollection?  I am not all familiar with SQL Server administration.

Any help or leads would be appreciated.

Reporting Service Webservice Access Denied Exception

Apr 24, 2007

I am running SQL Express with Reporting Services 2005 SP2.

Installed both on with the NT-AuthorityNetwork Service

I uploaded a report and I can execute it in the Report Manager.

What I want to do is execute the report via Webservice and stream the result as PDF.

Code SnippetReporting.ReportExecutionService svc = new Reporting.ReportExecutionService();
svc.Credentials = System.Net.CredentialCache.DefaultCredentials;
svc.LoadReport(report, historyID);
svc.SetExecutionParameters(parameters, "en-us");
byte[] results = svc.Render(format,deviceInfor,out fileNameExtension,out mimeType,out encoding,out warnings,out streams);
this.Response.Clear();
this.Response.ContentType = "application/pdf";
this.Response.AddHeader("Content-disposition", "attachment; filename=Report.pdf");
this.Response.BinaryWrite(results);
this.Response.End();

this is my code in the asp.net page

and I get following exception

Looks like I need some additional adjustment on the authentication. But I do not know where and how.

I try to change the webservice identity but after changing the user identity of the application pool in iis ( I think this is the only way to change webservice identity) I got the error message service unavailable in IIS. With this I also couldn't start the webfront end any more. Switching back to NT-AuthorityNetwork Serive the web front end worked again.

I tryed to add

Code Snippet<identity impersonate="true" />

to the web config and I get the same Error on the webserver account...

It would be great if someone could help me to adjust the settings...

SQLConnection Threw Exception Of Type System.InvalidOperationException

Mar 4, 2008

My SqlConnection is causing an error "sqlConn.ServerVersion threw an exception of type System.InvalidOperationException". Everything I have read seems to suggest that there is a problem with my SQLConnection parameters but as you can see from the commeted code below I have tried three different servers with four different configurations.  I am out of ideas on what is causing the error.
Thanks - Amy
Here is a section of my code:
String sqlStmt = "Select [UserName], [Password], [Last], [First] from Contacts Where Login=@Uid AND Password=@Pwd";
SqlConnection sqlConn = new SqlConnection("Data Source=localhost;Initial Catalog=test;Integrated Security=SSPI;");//SqlConnection sqlConn = new SqlConnection("Data Source=pe2800;Initial Catalog=test;Integrated Security=SSPI;");//SqlConnection sqlConn = new SqlConnection("Data Source=HorizonDC02;Initial Catalog=test;Integrated Security=SSPI;");//SqlConnection sqlConn = new SqlConnection("Data Source=HorizonDC02;Initial Catalog=test;User ID=username;Password=password;");
SqlCommand sqlCmd = new SqlCommand(sqlStmt, sqlConn);sqlCmd.Parameters.Add("@Uid", SqlDbType.VarChar, 30).Value = uid;sqlCmd.Parameters.Add("@Pwd", SqlDbType.VarChar, 30).Value = pwd;sqlCmd.Connection.Open();

Data Access :: Server Rejected The Connection - Access To Selected Database Has Been Denied

Jun 10, 2015

I have recently upgraded to SQL2014 on Win2012. The Access front end program works fine.

But, previously created Excel reports with built in MS Queries now fail with the above error for users with MS 2013.  The queries still work for users still using MS 2007.

I also cannot create any new queries and get the same error message. If I log on as myself on the domain to another PC with 2007 installed it works fine, so I don't think it is anything to do with AD groups or permissions.

SQL 2005 Express Local Admin Access Denied

Jan 3, 2007

I am using a standard installation of SQL 2005 Express installed with Visual C# Express. I have tried several connection strings, have tried connecting different databases, all of which end up giving me access denied for user <machineName>Greg (Greg is the local admin account for this PC. I found this guideline for connectivity questions (http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=362498&SiteID=1), and have gone through it all, posting the answers to questions here. One thing that may be different about this machine is that it is a tablet PC (WinXP Tablet edition) and I am running VMWare Server. I also tried loading it on a WinXP Pro workstation with no VMWare, and have gotten the same results. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

My connection string:
@"Server=(local);Integrated Security=SSPI;Database=Database1");

Client error message:
Cannot open database "Database1" requested by the login. The login failed. Login failed for user 'GREGBORGGreg'.

Client is local to the SQL 2005 Express - this is an application running on a local PC.

I am able to ping -a GREGBORG (as well as localhost)

I am able to telnet to port 1433 of my local machine, although Ctrl+[ does not give me an SQL prompt

I am using ADO.NET 2.0 and Visual C# 2005 Express

I have enabled Shared memory, named pipes and TCP/IP.

I have no alias' configured, and am not requiring encryption.

=========================
I am using SQL 2005 Express loaded on Windows XP tablet edition.

The SQL browser is not enabled, and it says that it has no enabled devices associated with it.

SQL Server is running under the Network System account

I have tried running it firewalled and not firewalled

I am running Clamwin anti-virus

File IO Exception Thrown When Trying To Access A CLR Assembly In SQL Server

Sep 5, 2007

I have been encountering a problem using a CLR Assembly in SQL server. The Assembly is one provided by Microsoft for an example on using Exchange web services with SQL server.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=D6924897-7B62-46FD-874E-24FB0FBA2159&displaylang=en#Requirements

Essentially what this package is, is a set of c# classes that access the Exchange 2007 Web Services via a set of user defined functions and views in MS SQL Server 2005.

We have not modified the code except to configure for our host environment.

We are able to register the assembly using the setup.sql file included. But when we try to access any of the views or use the functions we get the following error:

Msg 10314, Level 16, State 11, Line 10

An error occurred in the Microsoft .NET Framework while trying to load assembly id 65551. The server may be running out of resources, or the assembly may not be trusted with PERMISSION_SET = EXTERNAL_ACCESS or UNSAFE. Run the query again, or check documentation to see how to solve the assembly trust issues. For more information about this error:

System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'exchangeudfs, Version=0.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=777b97dde00f3dbe' or one of its dependencies. The given assembly name or codebase was invalid. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131047)

We have 3 testing environments. 2 Windows 2003 servers called test and test2. Also a single Windows 2000 server called test3. Test and test2 have a full suite installed on them, web server, exchange 2007, sql server 2005, they are also domain controllers for their own domains.

We get the above error on test and test2 but it runs fine on test3. Test and test2 represent what our production environment is like. Test3 was just part of our troubleshooting process.

We have tried a lot to make this work. Here are some details on the things we have tried.

The database is set up to allow CLR Assemblies. This is part of the setup.sql.

The assembly's permission is set to external_access.

We have gone all the way to setting the file permissions on the dll to full control to the Everyone group.

We have tried different accounts to run the SQL Service. We've tried the system account, the local admin account and a seperate user account.

The database we are using is a fresh brand new database. Therefore it does not fit into the bug reported in this article:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918040

I am really at a loss to where to go from here. Any ideas on why this 'out of the box' solution is causing us so many headaches would be appriciated.

Thanks,
Tim

SQL Server 2000 To SQL Server 2005 - Any Changes Required To Existing Code, System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection?

Dec 13, 2007

My web project (ASP.NET 2.0 / C#) runs against sql server 2000 and uses the System.Data.SqlClient.using System.Data.SqlClient;
 I use System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection and System.Data.SqlClient.SqlCommand to make the connections to the database and do selects and updates.  Is it correct to continue to use these against SQL Server 2005?  I ask because I made a connection string (outside of .Net) for SqlServer 2005 using the SQL native provider and it had the following - Provider=SQLNCLI.1 and any connection strings I had made (also outside of ASP.NET) fro SQL Server all used Provider=SQLOLEDB.1.  This is why I wondered if there is a different SqlClient in .Net 2.0 for SQL Server 2005?
Cheers

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied Only From Web App

Oct 6, 2006

I have recently deployed a web app that I have been developing onto the production server (Windows 2003 SP1 + an SQL Server 2000 SP4 cluster). The web app uses both Enterprise library and another Dotnet based database abstraction layer to query SQL Server. However, on deployment, when requesting data through both abstraction layers, I receive the generic SQL Server does not exist or access denied. However, I have validated the configuration of Enterprise library by creating a simple diagnostics console app that uses the exact enterprise library configuration file and this can connect without a problem. It seems like only web applications are affected though this is fairly standard web app using ASPNET, user , no impersonation etc. Therefore I suspect something similar to permissions on dlls or similar. I have looked around at Windows, WindowsSystem 32, the Dotnet framework but can anyone suggest any other areas to look at?

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied

Feb 8, 2007

Hello everyone,
I’m hoping that someone could help explain why I get this error  â€œSQL Server does not exist or access denied.â€? .  I’ve migrated to the web server from my local machine and these are the steps I took:
1.Copied folder to web server.
2. Changed connection string to connect to DB
3. modified web.config

Being the first time I’ve done this I’m also posting the connection string and config file code.

this.sqlConnect.ConnectionString = "Provider=sqloledb;Data Source=serverAddress;Initial Catalog=myDB;User Id=myLogin;Password=myPass";

I changed it from this:
this.sqlConnect.ConnectionString = "workstation id=myComputerName;packet size=4096;integrated security=SSPI;data source=myComputerName;pers" + "ist security info=False;initial catalog=blog";

the config file:
<sessionState
            mode="InProc"
            stateConnectionString="tcpip=mssql.mySqlSource.com:42424"
            sqlConnectionString="data source=mssql.mySqlSource.com;Trusted_Connection=yes"
            cookieless="false"
            timeout="20"
    />

Question- that port number, does it need to be changed?

I know that the server is running both 1.1 and 2.0 framework. Not sure if that could be an issue or not.

In Advance I want to say thanks for any support I receive.
The Fatthippo.

I think its my server because I cant get it to link up to an Access data base either, heres the error I get.[DBNETLIB]ConnectionOpen (Connect()),]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.Im pretty sure that all the fields that I entered are correct though.What could be the problem? Someone mentioned that the network protocol configuration maybe isnt setup right. Could this be the problem? If so how would I properly configure this?

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied

Jun 17, 2008

I've got a SQL2000 named instance on a box that also has SQL 2005.  Both database versions have run side by side for some time and I don't USUALLY have a problem (famous last words!).
I'm currently getting the error in the subject line trying to connect to it as "MACHINENAMESQL2000", SQL2000 being the named instances,  from another machine.  It works fine from the local machine, naturally.  I have verified my creditials, i.e. both Windows Authentication and a SQL login work fine from the local machine.  The machines are physically on the same subnet (they're actually side by side) and both can talk to each other just fine, i.e. they ping, and can map drives, etc.
Any tips/ideas on how to trouble shoot this?  Is there a new security switch that needs to be set to make the db visible to other machines??

Help!!!!SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied.

Nov 12, 2003

I' ve wrote the following simple asp.net code to test the connection to my local SQL server:
SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection ("server=localhost;uid=sa;pwd=;database=pubs");
try
{
connection.Open();
}
catch(SqlException ex){
Label1.Text= ex.Message;}
finally{
connection.Close();}

But each time I got the following errors:
SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

Can anyone help me find out when my problem lies?

BTW, the SQL service in Control Panel has been started, and my local SQL server uses windows and SQL authentication. When I use osql -E -S MyMachineName(This MyMachineName is some kind SQL Server Registration in SQL Server Group of SQL Server Enterprise Manage), everything seems to be fine, but it does not work when I use osql -E -S localhost.

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied.

Dec 19, 2003

I have 2 servers. one is the web server and the other is the sql server. web server(iis) is on windows 2000 and sql server is hosted on windows 2003

i can't connect to the sQL Server hosted on my Windows 2003 machine from an asp.net application. This is the error message i am getting. "SQL Server does not exist or access denied."

The sql server is set for both windows and sql server authentication. I have no problem connecting to it from the Web server using Enterprise Manager or Query Analyser.
The password is correct and username sa has full access.

This is the code i am using. the code is fine. i have used it 100s of time. the code below will work if i change the data source to "localhost" to connect to the sql server that is hosted on the same machine.

Dim strCon As String
strCon = "data source=Data1;initial catalog=MyFriendsNet;password=blah;persist security info=True;user id=sa;workstation id=Web1;packet size=4096"
Dim MyConnection As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection(strCon)
Dim MyCommand As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("Select * FROM Users", MyConnection)

MyConnection.Open()

Dim MyDr As SqlDataReader = MyCommand.ExecuteReader

While MyDr.Read()
Response.Write(MyDr("FirstName"))

End While

MyDr.Close()
MyConnection.Close()

This probably has to do with some kind of authentication issue. anyone have any ideas.

SQL Server Does Not Exist Or Access Denied

Jun 11, 2004

As shown by the post topic, I am trying to connect to a remote sql server through enterprise manager, and have been getting "SQL Server does not exist or access denied".

I have disabled Named Pipes, made sure it's listening on port 1433, triple-checked the user account, etc. Still nothing. The server is behind an ISA server, that has packet filtering turned on for 1433 also, yet I can't help but think the ISA server is to blame....

I am baffled after reading multiple tech docs and forum posts.

ANY HELP would be GREATLY APPRECIATED. (I'm pulling my hair out).
