SqlDataSource Events Selecting And Selected Not Work

Dec 28, 2005

When I handle a event for selecting to change the value of a parameter it does not use the new value and the selected event is never called. What am I doing wrong?

protected void OptionListSource_Selecting(object sender, SqlDataSourceSelectingEventArgs e)

{

string productID = Request.QueryString["p"].ToString();

SqlDataSourceView Source = (SqlDataSourceView)sender;

Source.SelectParameters["ProductID"].DefaultValue=productID;

}

protected void OptionListSource_Selected(object sender, SqlDataSourceStatusEventArgs e)

{

SqlDataSourceView Source = (SqlDataSourceView)sender;

}

SqlDataSource Selecting/Selected Events Not Firing

Nov 21, 2006

Hi,I have a SqlDataSource and am trying to establish if it returns rows using the selected event e.AffectedRows statement. Unfortunately the selected event does not fire. I am using a stored procedure with 2 parameters:applicantID - Int32 - Parameter source from control label textissueStatus - Int16 - Parameter source 'None' default value = 1 When i test it during configuration it returns 1 row as expected. I am manually running the DataSource using ds.DataBind(); after a button click. Anyone know why its not firing the event?Thanks

Should SqlDataSource Selected Event Always Fire?

May 2, 2007

Hi
 In the page load of my webpage I call a databind for a gridview.
It generally calls this event handler :
protected void SqlDataSource1_Selected(object sender, SqlDataSourceStatusEventArgs e)

However sometimes (seemingly randomly) it doesn't.
Any ideas?
Thanks

protected void Page_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
...
if (searchText != "")
    SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters["search"].DefaultValue = searchText;
else{
SqlDataSource1.SelectParameters["search"].DefaultValue = "";
GridView1.DataBind();
}

Retrieving Selected Gridview Column Values For SQLDatasource Asp:controlparameters

Jun 12, 2006

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but I 'm having problems retrieving a sqldatasource's asp:control parameter values from a selected row (during edit) in a gridview to update a record thru a stored procedure.  The stored procedure is pretty intense, so I'd like to keep it in SQL if possible instead of creating the generic "update table set ..." that I see in most examples.  It seems as if I can't get the propertyname right or something because it keeps giving me a "Procedure or function XX has too many arguments specified error".  Maybe the DataKeyNames is not right??  I've tried just passing one parameter (ProductID-same as DataKeyNames) using "SelectedValue" as propertyname and still get the same.  It's got to be something very simple, but I'm at a loss.  All parameters are spelled the same in the sp (with an added "@" at start) as in the asp:controlparameters.  Here's the gridview (asp.net 2.0 connecting to SQL Server 2005):
<asp:GridView ID="gvLoadEditProductPrices" runat="server" AutoGenerateColumns="False" AllowSorting="True" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource1" DataKeyNames="ProductID">
<Columns>
<asp:CommandField ShowEditButton="True" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="ProductID" HeaderText="ProductID" HeaderStyle-BackColor="white" InsertVisible="False"
ReadOnly="True" SortExpression="ProductID" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="Product" HeaderText="Product" SortExpression="Product" ReadOnly="True" />
<asp:BoundField DataField="ProductCat" HeaderText="ProductCat" SortExpression="ProductCat" ReadOnly="True" />

<asp:BoundField DataField="PageID" HeaderText="PageID" SortExpression="PageID" ReadOnly="True" />
</Columns>
</asp:GridView>
and the sqldatasource's info:
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource1" runat="server"

Selecting Records Between Two Dates (should Work But It Doesn't)

Nov 6, 2006

Hello. I need to create a page with asp 3 and sql server 2000 that lists all the records in a table that match a date criterion, but when doing so I get an error "Error Converting datetime from character string"...
I've tried this versions of the query:

Code:

SELECT (...) CONVERT(DATETIME,PAYMENTS_RECEIVED.PYR_DATE,103), (...)
FROM RESERVES LEFT OUTER JOIN (...)
WHERE (PAYMENTS_RECEIVED.PYR_DATE BETWEEN '20/03/2006' AND '21/03/2006')

and...

Code:

SELECT (...) PAYMENTS_RECEIVED.PYR_DATE, (...)
FROM RESERVES LEFT OUTER JOIN (...)
WHERE (PAYMENTS_RECEIVED.PYR_DATE >= CONVERT(DATETIME,'20/03/2006',103)) AND (PAYMENTS_RECEIVED.PYR_DATE < CONVERT(DATETIME,'21/03/2006',103))

I also tried adding " 00:00:00 a.m." to the dates to be converted in the second piece of code. If I recall correctly, "103" is the convertion code meaning "dd/mm/yyyy". That is, I expect people to type in a date like "27/03/2006" and get the table records from that date.

Weirdest thing of all is that, when using the query builder of a sqlsource control in Visual Studio Web Developer Express 2005 this following query works just fine as I expect:

Code:

SELECT (...) PAYMENTS_RECEIVED.PYR_DATE, (...)
FROM RESERVES LEFT OUTER JOIN (...)
WHERE (PAYMENTS_RECEIVED.PYR_DATE >= CONVERT(DATETIME, '20/03/2006', 103)) AND (PAYMENTS_RECEIVED.PYR_DATE < CONVERT(DATETIME, ' 21 / 03 / 2006 ', 103))

Both the server and the DB are the same in all cases, but in the first two I run the query from a (working of other queries) vbscript asp 3 page.

I know that similar posts exist already (I've searched for this before posting), but I can't fix it, at least not with the usual answer on this one (that seems to be using the convert function as in the first piece of code). Thanks in advance!!!

SqlDataSource.FilterExpression: Can't Get It Work With Dates?

Mar 18, 2008

 I am using the FilterExpression of an SqlDataSource object to filter the rows of a gridview.  It works with searching text values but I cannot for the life of me figure out to get it to work with dates.   The following is what I do for character searches: SomeDataSource.FilterExpression = fieldToSearch + " LIKE '%" + SearchTextBox.Text + "%'";  This works.  However when I try to search for dates using the following it doesn't work (startDate and endDate are DateTime objects):SomeDataSource.FilterExpression = fieldToSearch + " BETWEEN #" + startDate.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd") + "# AND #" + endDate.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd") + "#";// or
SomeDataSource.FilterExpression = fieldToSearch + " = #" + startDate.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd") + "#";// or
SomeDataSource.FilterExpression = fieldToSearch + " = #'" + startDate.ToString("MM/dd/yyyy HH:mm:ss") + "'#";

SqlDataSource Update Doesn't Work When Using Parameter

Feb 3, 2007

Hi all:
I have a list of items (actually a relation in which a user has selected an item, along with a rating for the item) in an Access database table, connected to my app with a SqlDataSource and bound to a repeater.  The repeater displays the items to the user along with a dropdown box to show the rating, and allow the user to update it.  The page connects and displays correctly.
My problem is that when the user submits the page and I iterate through the repeater items to update each rating, the updates are not being completed in the database.  The update works if I hard-code a value for the rating into the query itself, but not when using an updateparameter (pTaskRating below).  In other words if I replace pTaskRating with '5', all the correct records will be found and have their ratings updated to 5.  That means that the mySurveyId and pTaskId(DefaultValue) parameters have to be working, because the right records are found, but I can't seem to update records based on the DefaultValue of the pTaskRating parameter, even though I can verify that the DefaultValue is correct by placing a watch on it.  It seems that my problem must be in my use of that particular parameter in the query, either in properties of the parameter or in the value assigned to it.  I am extremely frustrated - any ideas would be greatly, greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
Bruck
The table I'm pulling from and updating looks like this:
SURVEY_ID (Text 50), TASK_ID (Long Int), RATING_ID (Long Int)
Here's my ASPX for the main data source:
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="sqlTaskSelections" runat="server" ConnectionString='Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source="abc.mdb";Persist Security Info=True;Jet OLEDB:Database Password=xyz' ProviderName="System.Data.OleDb" SelectCommand="SELECT [SURVEY_ID], [TASK_ID], [RATING_ID] FROM [TBL_TASK_SELECTION] WHERE [SURVEY_ID] = mySurveyId" UpdateCommand="UPDATE [TBL_TASK_SELECTION] SET [RATING_ID] = pTaskRating WHERE ([SURVEY_ID] = mySurveyId) AND ([TASK_ID] = pTaskId)">
<UpdateParameters>

<asp:SessionParameter Name="mySurveyId" SessionField="SurveyId" DefaultValue="" /><asp:Parameter Name="pTaskId" DefaultValue="" /><asp:Parameter Name="pTaskRating" DefaultValue="" />
</UpdateParameters>
And here's the repeater (the Task ID and Rating are stored in hidden fields for easy access later):
<asp:Repeater ID="rptTaskSelections" runat="server">

<HeaderTemplate><table border="0"></HeaderTemplate>

<ItemTemplate>

<tr class="abctr"><td class="normal"><asp:DropDownList ID="cbRatings" runat="server"></asp:DropDownList><asp:HiddenField ID="hTaskId" Runat="server" Visible="false" Value='<%# Eval("TASK_ID") %>' /><asp:HiddenField ID="hRating" Runat="server" Visible="false" Value='<%# Eval("RATING_ID") %>' /> <%# Eval("TASK_ID") %></td></tr>
</ItemTemplate>

<FooterTemplate></td></tr></table></FooterTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
And here's the page load and submit VB:
Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load

If Not Page.IsPostBack Then

'BIND / LOAD RATINGS TO DROPDOWN BOXES HEREDim i As IntegerDim cbCurrentRating As DropDownListDim hCurrentRating As HiddenFieldrptTaskSelections.DataSource = sqlTaskSelectionsrptTaskSelections.DataBind()

cbCurrentRating.DataSource = sqlRatingscbCurrentRating.DataTextField = "RATING"cbCurrentRating.DataValueField = "ID"cbCurrentRating.DataBind()cbCurrentRating.SelectedValue = hCurrentRating.Value

Next

End If
End Sub
Protected Sub btnSubmitRateTasks_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles btnSubmitRateTasks.Click

'UPDATE RATINGS HERE

Dim i As IntegerDim cbCurrentRating As DropDownListDim hCurrentTaskId As HiddenField

Temporary Table In Stored Procedure Doesn't Work From SQLDataSource

Feb 20, 2008

I have a stored procedure with the following:

CREATE TABLE #t1 (... ...);

WITH temp AS (....)

INSERT INTO #t1

SELECT .... FROM temp LEFT OUTER JOIN anothertable ON ...

This stored procedure works fine in Management Studio.

I then use this stored procedure in an ASP.NET page via a SQLDataSource object. The ASP.NET code compiles without error, but the result returned is empty (my bounded GridView object has zero rows). From Web Developer, if I try to Refresh Schema on the SQLDATASource object, I get an error: "Invalid object name '#t1'. The error is at the red #1 as I tried putting something else at that location to confirm it.

What does the error message mean and what have I done wrong?

Thanks.

Class1 and Name2 both have the (Select All) parameter selected but Class1 is displaying the concatenated parameter variable list whereas Name2 is showing Null. Why is that? If anything, how can I get Class1 to be similar to Name2 and show Null?But my desired wish is to have Class1, Name2 and Name3 display the text"All Selected" when the parameter (Select All) is chosen.

Selecting The Most Recently Edited Item AND Selecting A Certain Type If Another Doesn't Exist

Sep 20, 2007

I've got a big problem that I'm trying to figure out:
I have an address table out-of-which I am trying to select mailing addresses for companies UNLESS a mailing address doesn't exist; then I want to select the physical addresses for that company. If I get multiple mailing or physical addresses returned I only want the most recently edited out of those.

I don't need this for an individual ID select, I need it applied to every record from the table.

My address table has some columns that look like:
[AddressID] [int]
[LocationID] [int]

[Type] [nvarchar](10)
[Address] [varchar](50)
[City] [varchar](50)
[State] [char](2)
[Zip] [varchar](5)
[AddDate] [datetime]
[EditDate] [datetime]

AddressID is a primary-key non-null column to the address table and the LocationID is a foreign key value from a seperate Companies table.
So there will be multiple addresses to one LocationID, but each address will have it's own AddressID.

How can I do this efficiently with perfomance in mind???

Thank you in advance for any and all replies...

Reacting To DB Events

Dec 16, 2005

I'd like to build an application that will react to specific changes todata in a set of tables in a database. The application would replicatethese data changes to another database. The target database won't beSQLServer. Neither is this simple replication, at times the applicationwill need to get extra data from the source database before the targetis updated.In other DBMS systems I am involved with the DBMS has the facilty towrite to an application message queue so that the monitoring applicationonly has to monitor the queue rather than a database. What I'd like todo is something like this:1. Some application changes data in a table.2. A trigger reacts to the change and writes a message to an applicationqueue.3. A windows service/process monitors the queue and picks up themessage. It then carries out whatever replication/DB actions are necessary.This would mean defining a number of new triggers on existing tables anddeveloping the windows service/process. Existing applications and theexisting tables in the database would remain unchanged. I'm not awindows programmer but I have someone in my team who is and who willbuild the windows service/process.The bit I'm unsure about is how a trigger can write to an applicationqueue or communicate with the windows service/process. I may be usingthe wrong terminology as I have more knowledge of Unix than Windows.Could anyone help with how I can do this or suggest any alternativestrategies.Thanks In Advance.Laurence

This means thatwhen the query fails I am left with only a very unhelpful message.So what I was wondering, was whether there is a way that I can view theactual queries that are sent to SQL server as they happen, or if areal-time solution doesn't exist, then some way I can look back afterthe event and see the syntax of the queries?Ideally, what I would like to do is see the queries in the form theywere sent to the server, ie "SELECT * FROM foo WHERE bar='foobar'", asthis would help me to figure out where the generated queries are goingwrong.Cheers,--Dylan Parryhttp://electricfreedom.org | http://webpageworkshop.co.ukThe opinions stated above are not necessarily representative ofthose of my cats. Equivalent To Database Events

Jul 20, 2005

Hiwe are considering porting an application from Ingres to SQL Server.Part of the application uses a feature of Ingres called databaseevents. These allow a application to monitor for an event happening inthe database, e.g. a user enters a record meeting certain conditions,the database raises an event including a record ID, and a clientapplication sees the event (without continual explicit polling), readsthe new record and starts processing it.Any idea what the equivalent functionality would be in SQL Server2000, or are applications simply not done that way?TIAChloe CrowderThe British Library
