SqlDataSource With Several Result Tables

Mar 14, 2007

I have an SqlDataSource that has SelectCommand as Stored Procedure. This stored procedure returns two tables. But my SqlDataSource can see first table only.

How can I see second table in Selected event of my SqlDataSource for example ?

SqlDataReader has method NextResult() for this task. How in SqlDataSource ?

I'm sorry for my English.

Access DB Via SqlDataSource....need Result In DataSet

Jun 21, 2006

Hi all...I've set the DataSourceMode = SqlDataSourceMode.DataSet, and did a .Type return and found that it is actually returning a DataView.  A component I am trying to avoid rewriting....requires a dataset that loops through the table, does some cool formatting to a datagrid and then rebinds.Here's the code that I'm trying to send the dataset to....maybe there's just a couple of changes that could make it work with a DataView?          int i = 0;        string prevsub = "";        while (i <= ds.Tables[0].Rows.Count - 1)        {            DataRow dr = ds.Tables[0].Rows[i];            string sub = dr["SubHeading"].ToString();            if (sub != prevsub)            {                prevsub = sub;                DataRow newrow = ds.Tables[0].NewRow();                newrow["Title"] = "SubHeading";                newrow[columnName] = dr[columnName];                ds.Tables[0].Rows.InsertAt(newrow, i);                i++;            }            i++;        }

Result From 2 Tables

Dec 12, 2007

Hello,

I have a problem figuring out how I should do the following in SQL. I have 2 tables

table 1

M_Name, M_Application
A applA
b applB
c NULL
d applD

table 2

O_Name, O_Application
A applA
b applXX
c applC
d NULL

Now I need to somehow combine this to tables where M_Name and O_name should be the where clause e.g. where M_name = O_name and the result
should look something like this

Name (M_name and O_name), M_Application, O_Application
A ApplA ApplA
B ApplB ApplXX
C NULL ApplC
D ApplD NULL

I also would like to have NULLS included in the result

Thanks,
Patric

Insert Into Two Tables Sqldatasource

Jun 30, 2006

Coming from an asp world, I am totally lost on this one.
I have two tables.
tblUsers and tblUserInfo
I have a gridview that gives me the list of users and when selected, it gives me the detailsview of the the record.  However, When I need to add a new user, I am trying to add that user into tblUsers (which happens with no problems), and then add a record, using the same user number (UserID) has the key or ID for the tblUserInfo.
So basicly, when I create a new user in tblUsers I want to create a record in tblUserInfo with the same userid.
In ASP, this takes me minutes... I have been trying to figure this out for weeks.
vs2005, sql express.
Thanks.

Insert Into Two Tables Via Sqldatasource

Feb 6, 2007

Hi, I have some problem with inserting data into two separate table which are connected via foreign key like in this example:Students (id_s, name, id_subject)Subjects (id_subject, name)So the point is to add a new student and subject for that chosen student. You have to make two inserts right? but how to pass the primary key to the table with foreign key? The form consists of three texbox: name, name_of_subject. Both id_s and id_subject are increment automatically. Any idea how to do it? I would be very grateful for the working code. Thanks in advance and best regards,N.

No Temp Tables In SQLDatasource?????

Apr 12, 2006

Please tell me there's something I haven't set.   I've done several tests now.   If your final return in a stored proc is from a temp table (ala #mytable ) the system cannot read the schema - for that matter, it won't run at all, complaining that the object #mytable doesn't exists.
It can't possible be that temp tables aren't allowed in procs used by SQLDatasource - please tell me what I am doing wrong.
This proc, when fed to a sqldatasource,  fails in the designer with #temp does not exists.
CREATE PROCEDURE dbo.repTest_TempASBEGIN
CREATE TABLE #Temp( [iTestID]  uniqueidentifier, [bTest] [bit], [cTest] [varchar] )
INSERT INTO #TempSELECT *FROM tTest
SELECT *FROM #Temp
END

Get Result Set From Two Tables Without Compare

Jan 26, 2008

Hi there,

Can someone please help me figure out how I can write a select statement that returns a row from one table and the count of records from the second table using the row name from the first table?

In other words:
First table has only one column "name" and that table name is called "namelist"
Second table has multiple columns, and the table is called "name"
so, what i want to do is something like:
select name from namelist and select count(*) from [name]

results should be:
sean,0
bob,1
tom,5
etc...

SQLDataSource: Update 2 Tables With 1 UpdateCommand?

Mar 16, 2007

I have a Gridview (edit enabled), connected to a SQLDataSource.
SQLDataSource populates the gridview from 1 SelectCommand.
 figure1:
ColumnA | ColumnB | ColumnC

I have 2 SQL Server 2005 tables: Table1 and Table2
Now on my SQLDataSource's UpdateCommand, I want the value of ColumnB to go to Table1's ColumnB, and ColumnC to go to Table2's ColumnC.
How do I do this?
I understand I can't do this with 1 UPDATE-SET sql query. Maybe I can with stored procs or something, but im kinda noobish when it comes to this. How? Thanks

Get Result From 3 Tables In A SINGLE Query

Jun 17, 2014

I am using 3 tables: projects, project_manager and project_employee

projects

- project_id (int, PK)
- project_name

project_manager

- project_id (int, PK)
- manager_id (int, PK)

project_employee

- project_id (int, PK)
- employee_id (int, PK)

Assume that a manager is currently logged in (so we know what is his ID), what I trying to do is write a query that will display a grid-view showing:

project_id, project_name and number of employees in project.

I tried these quires to test:

SELECT project_id, count(emp_id) as NumberOfEmployees into #tempTable FROM project_employee WHERE project_id IN (SELECT project_id FrOM projects) GROUP BY project_id

SELECT projects.project_id, projects.project_name, NumberOfEmployees FROM projects, #tempTable WHERE projects.project_id = #tempTable.project_id

Problems are:
1 - I used two queries not one
2 - The result is for all projects of all managers, I just want to display projects for a specific manager (for example mag_id = 5)
3 - it created a temporary table - which I dont want.

Is there anyway to get what I want in a single query?

How To Retrieve Two Columns From Different Tables As A Single Result Set

May 16, 2008

I have two tables that have no relation. However, both have a column which has a field of nvarchar(50) that I want to retrieve together in one operation and bind to a DropDownList in a sorted fashion. So, what I'm trying to achieve is this:
1. SELECT name FROM table1
2. SELECT name FROM table2
3. Join the two results together and order them alphabetically
4. Return the result set
I'm not sure how to do this or even if it's possible. Ideally I'm hoping it can be done in a stored proc.

So,I was trying to move the scripts from one database to another by Generating Scripts options in SQL Server.

Generating Scripts:

Object Explorer --> Databases --> Database --> Tasks --> Generate Scripts

The generated script output is in a order of stored procedure first and then table.

REQUIREMENT: My stored procedure is dependent on table. So, I need the table script first and then stored procedure.

Note: I can generate two separate scripts for table and stored procedure, But in a just curiosity to know, Is there any way, can we re order the Generate Scripts output in SQL Server.

showID

CASE Function Result With Result Expression Values (for IN Keyword)

Aug 2, 2007

I am trying to code a WHERE xxxx IN ('aaa','bbb','ccc') requirement but it the return values for the IN keyword changes according to another column, thus the need for a CASE function.

WHERE GROUP.GROUP_ID = 2 AND DEPT.DEPT_ID = 'D' AND WORK_TYPE_ID IN ( CASE DEPT_ID WHEN 'D' THEN 'A','B','C' <---- ERROR WHEN 'F' THEN 'C','D ELSE 'A','B','C','D' END )

I kept on getting errors, like

Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 44Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'WHERE'.
which leads me to assume that the CASE ... WHEN ... THEN statement does not allow mutiple values for result expression. Is there a way to get the SQL above to work or code the same logic in a different manner in just one simple SQL, and not a procedure or T-SQL script.

Return Subquery Result For Only First Row In Result

Apr 7, 2015

I'm using a subquery to return a delivery charge line as a column in the result set. I want to see this delivery charge only on the first line of the results for each contract. Code and results are below.

declare @start smalldatetime
declare @end smalldatetime
set @start = '2015-03-22 00:00' -- this should be a Sunday
set @end = '2015-03-28 23:59' -- this should be the following Saturday

select di.dticket [Contract], di.ddate [Delivered], di.item [Fleet_No], di.descr [Description], dd.min_chg [Delivery_Chg], dd.last_invc_date [Delivery_Invoiced],

[code]....

In this example, I only want to see the delivery charge of 125.00 for the first line of contract HU004377. For simplicity I have only shown the lines for 1 contract here, but there would normally be many different contracts with varying numbers of lines, and I only want to see the delivery charge once for each contract.

Why Would Tables Pulled In From ODBC In Access Be Different Than Tables In SQL 2005 Tables?

Jan 24, 2008

I'm new to my company, although not new to SQL 2005 and I found something interesting. I don't have an ERD yet, and so I was asking a co-worker what table some data was in, they told me a table that is NOT in SQL Server 2005's list of tables, views or synonyms.

I thought that was strange, and so I searched over and over again and still I couldn't find it. Then I did a select statement the table that Access thinks exists and SQL Server does not show and to my shock, the select statement pulled in data!

So how did this happen? How can I find the object in SSMS folder listing of tables/views or whatever and what am I overlooking?

Thanks,
Keith
