I am copying data ( ~600000 rows) using SqlBulkCopy. The operation fails after copying 390000 rows with the follwoing exception ( this happens every time when i run and after the same number of rows copied). Is anything else i need to do differently. The server has 35GB of free space & 1 GB of RAM.

Hi guys, Im desperately hoping someone here can help me. Ive been trying to set up merge replication between 2 servers all weekend and it keeps failing. Im setting this up as follows
The Publisher/Distributor is a SQL Server 2005 machine, the database being replicated is 4gb, and the only subscriber is a SQL Server 2000 SP4 machine. I set up my publication normally, and set up the push subscription, adn set it to initialize immediately. It weill then start bulk copying and go on for about 3-4 hours before it fails and gives me the errors:
Error messages:

Hi,we found some strange behavior when operating with floats and round().The following simplified statement reproduces the problem.select 6.56 - round(convert(float, 6.56), 2)from sysusers where name = 'public';===========-8.88178419In "real world", the floats are not literals, but float fields in tables.I could figure, that 6.56 - 6.56 will result in something like 0.00001,but -8.88178419 is beyond my imagination.The same statement without round results in 0.Has anyone any clue on this?Regards,Peter

I have created a small COM in C# so that I can programatically create and execute stored procedures with SMO. At this point the COM has nothing in it but just a test prototype.
But when I tried to create the object as follows, I get the error indicated below.
It is not a memory issue because I have adequate storage and RAM.

Hello,
When I transfer/copy tables from one database to another (on the same SQL Server), everything is fine. When I try to tranfer/copy Stored Procedures, I get the error message:
"Failed to copy objects from Microsoft SQL Server to Microsoft SQL Server."
I am using the DTS import/export wizard to do this.
Thanks,

Hi~, I have 3 questions about memory based bulk copy.
1. What is the limitation count of IRowsetFastLoad::InsertRow() method before IRowsetFastLoad::Commit(true)?
For example, how much insert row at below sample?(the max value of nCount)
for(i=0 ; i<nCount ; i++)
{
pIFastLoad->InsertRow(hAccessor, (void*)(&BulkData));
}
2. In above code sample, isn't there method of inserting prepared array at once directly(BulkData array, not for loop)
3. In OLE DB memory based bulk copy, what is the equivalent of below's T-SQL bulk copy option ?
BULK INSERT database_name.schema_name.table_name FROM 'data_file' WITH (ROWS_PER_BATCH = rows_per_batch, TABLOCK);
-------------------------------------------------------
My solution is like this. Is it correct?
// CoCreateInstance(...);
// Data source
// Create session
m_TableID.uName.pwszName = m_wszTableName;
m_TableID.eKind = DBKIND_NAME;
DBPROP rgProps[1];
DBPROPSET PropSet[1];
rgProps[0].dwOptions = DBPROPOPTIONS_REQUIRED;
rgProps[0].colid = DB_NULLID;
rgProps[0].vValue.vt = VT_BSTR;
rgProps[0].dwPropertyID = SSPROP_FASTLOADOPTIONS;
rgProps[0].vValue.bstrVal = L"ROWS_PER_BATCH = 10000,TABLOCK";
PropSet[0].rgProperties = rgProps;
PropSet[0].cProperties = 1;
PropSet[0].guidPropertySet = DBPROPSET_SQLSERVERROWSET;
if(m_pIOpenRowset)
{
if(FAILED(m_pIOpenRowset->OpenRowset(NULL,&m_TableID,NULL,IID_IRowsetFastLoad,1,PropSet,(LPUNKNOWN*)&m_pIRowsetFastLoad)))
{
return FALSE;
}
}
else

Hello,
I need to perform a query on a table. With the results of the query, I want to copy those results into the same table that I ran the query on. The trick is, I need to update 3 of the values before I can re-insert the results back into the same table.
Does anyone know how I can do this?
Thank you,

In our database, we have a very large table that gets updated every morning, start of the day is copying 4 million rows from the fact table from previous date to today's date in the same table and then some other processing. It takes 1 1/2 to 2 hrs to do this. There is a dts package created to copy these rows into temp table and then to this fact table.
This table has more than 200 million rows
Any ideas on how to accomplish this without doing the copy twice and not running into locking problems.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I have a job which executes hourly.
Essentially:
Begin
Truncate table A
Insert into A
(Col1,
Col2,
Col3...
)
Select Value1,
Value2,
Value3...
From Table B
End
The insert operation query takes approximately 3.5 minutes to execute. What's occurring is the Table is immediately truncated, and there are no rows in the table for those 3.5 minutes.
How can I avoid having this gap - where there are no rows in the table for that period of time during the job execution ? The table could be locked, but that doesn't seem like the best solution.

After opening Management Studio and doing some editing it is possible to copy/paste things in the query editor. After a while (working in another app) I come back to Management Studio and I can't copy/paste anything anymore. If I try to copy from the results window I get an error message that the clipboard operation did not succeed. If I try to copy from the query editor window it just doesn't copy. I can copy/paste in other apps without a problem.
It is not the clipboard getting full but I can't rule out much else.

I am trying to migrate a 2008 R2 (SP1) database with one secondary data file to a separate 2014 server using the Copy Database Wizard from the 2014 server, and connect to both SQL engines on that server. It consistently fails on step 5. I'm logging to a text file and the error I see is as follows:
InnerException-->Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding.
CREATE DATABASE failed. Some file names listed could not be created. Check related errors.
StackTrace: at System.Data.SqlClient.SqlConnection.OnError(SqlException exception, Boolean breakConnection, Action`1 wrapCloseInAction)
I created a test database on the same 2008 server, also with a secondary data file, and it migrated flawlessly using the CDW. I am using the copy object method in all cases, and not the detach/attach method.
I would prefer to perform this without any downtime on the source (production) database.

Hi All
One of the step in sql agent job is to execute the SSIS package to copy files from remote shared location to local server where sql server is installed. The account on which SQL agent runs as has access to remote shared location. However SSIS package always fails with following error:
An error occurred with the following error message: "Access to the path '\sharedlocationBCKTST105092008.csv' is denied.".
We have tried using proxies but same issue come with proxy also.
When using proxy, we created a proxy for a user who has access on that shared folder on Windows server(from which files are to be copied). If we login to SSIS server with the above user and execute SSIS package manually it works fine. However if we login with different user and run the job via SQL agent using proxy of the above user, then job fails throwing same above mentioned error
Any help is highly appreciated.
Thanks

I have a new Windows 8.1 64-bit machine onto which I have installed everything that I had on my previous Windows 7 machine. Occasionally I like to use the Copy Database Wizard in SQL 2012 to create a copy of a database on my stand-alone laptop before I begin a new stage of development on it. However, I have failed to run it successfully on my new Windows 8 laptop, despite everything apart from the operating system being identical to my Windows 7 machine, on which I never encountered a problem.
do not suggest using backup instead of the Copy Database Wizard, as if something has worked for me perfectly for 15 years I would like to know why it does not work now. The error message that I receive is shown at the end of this message.
The log-on accounts for SQL Server Agent and SQL Server Integration Services 11.0 are NT ServiceSQLSERVERAGENT and NT ServiceMsDtsServer110 respectively, as they were on my Windows 7 machine. All services are running. Why I receive the error stating, "Arithmetic operation resulted in an overflow" for every database that I have tried to copy, including a new database with no tables that I created to see if I still received this error. As I said, the problem relates to trying to copy databases onto the same machine on which the original database exists.

I'm intersted only to see if the login happens three time, but i'm not able to see that. Also, there was no Audit Logout.
Does SQL Server automatically pool connections ?
If i run Openrowset 3 times, shouldn't it open & close connection 3 times ?
Please clarify.

Hello,
I seem to have a strange problem in that my code runs fine, but I am trying to INSERT rows into a database, and the rows affected by the INSERT command is alwsy zero, even though no error is thrown. Hence no data gets inserted.
Here is the code:
void recordTick(string pair, DateTime time, decimal sell, decimal buy)
{
SqlConnection thisConnection = new SqlConnection("Data Source=.\SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\FOREX.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True");
insert = "INSERT INTO " + pair + " VALUES(" +
"'" + time.ToString("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mms") + "'," +
"'" + sell.ToString() + "'," +
"'" + buy.ToString() + "'" + ")";
thisConnection.Open();
SqlCommand command = new SqlCommand(insert, thisConnection);
Int32 success = command.ExecuteNonQuery(); // success always = 0!
thisConnection.Close();
}
The database is type .MDF that I created with the Project/Add Component/SQL Database menu. I can inspect it easily in Server Exporer and add data manually with no problem.
Can any one suggest how to get the INSERT to actually add the data?
Any help much appreciated!

i need to replicate one row in my table to the same table but with small changes in some fileds. I mean - copy the row and to insert it again to the same table, that I copy it from, with changes in fields values.
Do you know any way i can to this - temporary table/ store procedure and so on... BUT in one shot - one action for the select and insert and update operations.

When I open a report definition, go to a dataset and open it, the CommandType ALWAYS goes to "Text". I don't want "Text", I want "Stored Procedure". I NEED "Stored Procedure".
I have also found that the CommandText for a different dataset will change even though I have not opened it.
I guess the only solution I have is to open the RDL files, search for the dataset entries and then fix the XML code. This is a real pain in the buttocks when I am working with 300+ reports.
Is there a fix for this bug? Or are you going to FORCE everyone to use "Text"?
I am trying to finish this project so that we can release it to our customers but now I have to wonder why we decided to go with Reporting Services, especially now that we have to do double edits on each and every report.

I have an SSIS job that selects rows from a Sql Server table and inserts them into a table on an AS400 DB2 instance. This process has been running correctly for many months. Last week, the AS400 operating system was upgraded from V5r3 to V5r4 and since that upgrade, the SSIS job is failing on the insert step with the following error:
OLE DB provider "DB2OLEDB" for linked server "BKL400" returned message "SQLDA or descriptor area not valid. SQLSTATE: 07002, SQLCODE: -804".
Msg 7343, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
The OLE DB provider "DB2OLEDB" for linked server "BKL400" could not INSERT INTO table "[BKL400].[BKL400].[MM4R4LIB].[INV911WK]".
The insert is in an Execute SQL task and uses a linked server definition to access the AS400.
As I said, this process has been working well for many months until the OS upgrade. Any idea on what is causing this and how to correct it will be Greatly appreciated!

The problem tables have between 300,000 and 1,300,000 rows. Oddly some of the tables that migrate successfully have more than 10,000,000 rows. What to check to determine why these tables are failing to load?

What I am looking to do is, run through my table of data and create a record for each Name for each Position it takes up. For example
For Person1 the data will look like,
Name, StartPosition, EndPosition, Heigh, Position
Person1, 10,15,5, 10
Person1, 10,15,5, 11
Person1, 10,15,5, 12
Person1, 10,15,5, 13
Person1, 10,15,5, 14
Person1, 10,15,5, 15

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to create a performant script to copy records from a table in a source database, to an identical table in a destination database.
In SQL 2000, I used to create a little lookup which did a count using certain fields. If the record was missing, I executed an INSERT query, otherwise an UPDATE query. The result was that the table on the destination side was always up to date. Duplicate rows were out of the question.
This was, if I'm not mistaking, a Data Transformation, using a bit of custom VBA code to govern the transfer. For each source row, the custom code was executed. Depending on the result of the custom code, a different query was launched.
Now I'm trying to do the same using SSIS in SQL 2005. Is there a task which does this for me, or do I have to script again? In the latter case, which type of task would I use?
(I thought of the Script Task, but then I would need to set up quite a bit myself.)
Thank you,
Bram

In my SSIS package I have a text file source that I am mapping to a destination table. I have an error component that logs any row level errors and have noticed that it is not logging the correct field. I know this because I have a few different sources that submit the same files and have looked at the source of both. THE ONLY DIFFERENCE in the one that works versus the one that does not is that 2 of the 25+ columns are switched. I would not think this would matter because field A in the text file is mapped to field A in the database.
Does the order in which the fields come into the SSIS package matter?
Thanks
