Sqlserver.exe Eating Up 47+k?

hi,

I have sql server express installed and checked its process and noticed it is consuming over 47k of ram. Is this normal?
Why is this process taking up so much memory?

how can i figure out why?
it's a brand new high spec computer.

i have sp that is being run probably about 25 times a minute which checks that a records is not a duplicate and inserts... could this be tying up the cpu? how can i figure out what is doing it?

SLQ Server 2005: Why Is Eating My RAM?

Hello again.I'm developing an ASP.NET web application with VS2005 and SLQ Server 2005. The problem is with SQL Server: I tried to add a new column to an existent table (with more than 2500 rows) by mean SQL Server, but it takes almost 1 minute to do each click when I open the table in edit mode. I don't think that it is normal. May be it because the size of the databases? (8 databases: 30GB in total)? may be a error of configuration? I reviewed the RAM use of SQL Server and it takes 1.1 GB!!! so, I rebooted the server and then it was taking 540Kb of RAM. I don't know if this is the better place to do this question, but if it isn't please refer me to the right place to do it. Thanks in advance. PD: sorry for any misspell/mistake, I'm not a fluent English-speaker.

Is there any way i can solve this problem.

My tempdb is eating 1.27 gb of space of my d dive, and now only 10 mb is left in d drive . for this i stoped and started sqlserver but it didnt release much of space.Pls let me know is there any other way so that i can release some space from my tempdb.

I have a server with Windows 2003 Server (3GB RAM) and SQL SERVER 2000 running on it, my problem is that sqlserv.exe eat 2GB RAM even if on this server nothing happen....if i restart the service of SQL Server everything is ok eat just 30 MB RAM but after some minutes...after i made a simple select or a simple delete....simple things he arrive to 2GB RAM...this not happen until now(2 days ago)...the problem is that when he arrive to ~2GB RAM the statio run very slow and i receive the error "Time out expire"

this problem happens and on my local station where i have Win XP PRO (1 GB RAM) SQL Server 2000....

Fuzzy Lookup Componant Eating All Available Virtual Memory

Hey,

I have a large set of data that I need to match against another large set of data.  The reference table has 9.8mill rows and my input has 14.6mill rows.  I started with a new project.  I added my connection, then a task to clear the result table, then my data flow, then my OLE source, then my Fuzzy Lookup task, then my SQL Server Destination.  I set the connection of my OLE source and set the query to pull the data.  Then I set the connection of my Fuzzy Lookup task, set the reference table and told it to create a new index (the problem also occurs if I use a generated index) and then set up the matching criteria.  Then I set the connection and destination for the SQL Server Destination.

After setting all this up, I hit Run.  The thing ran great until ~ 800k rows and then it failed.  I ran it several times and it always failed right around 800k with a message saying there was not enough space and then an error with buffers being passed to the Fuzzy Lookup component.  I opened Task Manager and watched the resources as it ran and was amazed at what I saw.  The Fuzzy Lookup component eats up every bit of Virtual Memory available and when it can't take any more, it errors out.  I tried setting the Max Memory setting on the component and it seems to have no effect.  I also played with the buffer settings on the data flow task to no avail.  I even went as far as to put an identity on my input table and create a function that outputs selects that use a between on the identity to break the data into 600k chunks.  I set up a ForEach component and DTS variables, but the Fuzzy Lookup component does not free the VM after the iteration of the ForEach component!

I ended up running each chunk of 600k one at a time.  I have to automate this for the future, so I need a solution.  Does anyone have an idea for me?

Multiple RadCharts And Multiple SQLDataSources Eating Up My Memory!

[.NET 2.0, Visual Basic, RadChart/RadPanel/RadTimer controls (www.telerik.com), SQLDataSource controls, SQLServer 2002]
I have only been working with .NET for about a month now so my knowledge and understanding are pretty low in some areas, including this one.
What I have is a number of webpages that have several RadChart controls on them (8 to 12 charts per page). Each of these charts is bound to a seperate SQLDataSource with a variation of the following query:
1    SELECT [QC Shot Logs].penetration, charges.penmra, charges.penmts, [QC Shot Logs].time2    FROM [QC Shot Logs] INNER JOIN (select top 1 run.runid, run.linerpress#, run.partid3    from run where run.linerpress# = '1' order by run.[date] desc) as drun ON [QC Shot Logs].RunID = dRun.RunID4    INNER JOIN Charges ON dRun.PartID = Charges.PartID5    where [qc shot logs].shottype < 3 order by [qc shot logs].timeEach chart represents the results of a quality control check on explosives that my company uses and puts the data in a visual format so that it is easy to see if the blasts passed or failed inspection. The different variations in the SQL code above are simply a change in line #3: where run.linerpress# = '1',  where run.linerpress# = '2', and so on up to '12'.
Data is added and modified in the database quite a bit throughout the day at random times, so I need the charts to refresh their data pretty frequently (done with a RadTimer control). The problem that is caused then is that I have 12 RadCharts individually bound to 12 SQLDataSources that all get refreshed every 30 seconds or so, which takes quite a bit of time. The main Quality Control computer monitors four webpages at a time, one of them with 12 Charts/Sources, and three with 8 Charts/Sources each. Having 36 charts up at a time with 36 hits on the database going as well causes a great deal of lag on the system. In addition to that though, there are also two other pages (each with 12 charts/sources) that can be viewed by any number of people at any time, which (obviously) causes more lag on the system.
 So, on to my actual questions:
1) Can I use a single SQLDataSource control to gather all of the data I need for the 8-12 RadCharts on a single page? I'm not too well versed in SQL either, so I don't know if I can modify the SQL so that it picks up all of the information I need, or if I can gather the data for the first chart, change a variable to pull the data for the second, change the variable again, etc.
2) Is there a way to refresh the RadCharts so that the data they display is relatively real time without having to refresh the SQLDataSources as well?
And then, of course, any suggestions at all that you can give me that will help to improve overall performace or anything of the like is definitely appreciated.

Class Method Is Smoking Fast When Executed Outside Of SQLServer, Dog Slow As A CLR Function Is SQLServer - Anyone?

We have a static class that makes an HTTPWebRequest to get XML data from one of our vendors. We use this as input to a stored proc in SQLServer2005. When I compile this class and call it from a console application in visual studio it executes in milliseconds, everytime. When I compile it, create the assembly and clr function and execute it in SQLServer, it takes around 14 seconds to execute the first time, then on subsequent requests it is again really fast, until I wait for 10 seconds and re-execute, once again it is slow the first time and then fast on subsequent requests. We do not see this behavior when executing outside SQLServer. Makes me think that some sort of authentication is perhaps taking place the first time the function is run in SQLServer? I have no idea how to debug this further. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas?

Problem Unicode Data 0x2300 In SQLServer 2000 SQLServer 2005 Express

Hi experts;
I have a problem with unicode character 0x2300
I created this table
create table testunicode (Bez nchar(128))

Insert Data
insert into testunicode (Bez)values('Œ€„¢')
with 2 Unicode characters
Œ€ = 0x2300
„¢ = 0x2122

Selecting the data
select Bez from testunicode
I see
"?„¢"

„¢ = 0x2122 is ok but instead of 0x2300 there is 0x3f

When I modify the insert statement like that ( 8960 = 0x2300 )
insert into testunicode (Bez)values(NCHAR(8960)+'„¢')

and select again voila i see
"Œ€„¢"
Does anyone have an idea?

Trying To 'load' A Copy Of A SQLServer 2000 Database To SQLServer 2005 Express

I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.

I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?

The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.

Replacing Sqlserver 2000 With Sqlserver 2005 Express

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.

Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.

If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:

server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"

DB name: name of db instance

port: 1433(default)

user and pass.

My attempts so far results in

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Error establishing socket."

and

"java.sql.SQLException: [Microsoft][SQLServer 2000 Driver for JDBC]Unable to connect. Invalid URL."

I am in the process of planning a server upgrade to sql2005 x64.

I created 2 linked servers: one to a SQL2000 sp4 server and one to a SQL7.0 SP3.

I have the following error when I query the linked servers.
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "Unspecified error".
OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "The stored procedure required to complete this operation could not be found on the server. Please contact your system administrator.".
Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES_INFO" for OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.

I am aware of KB 906954.

I applied the instcat.sql on the SQL2000SP4 server and my linked server issues for that one are gone.

However, I ran the instcat.sql script on the SQL7.0 sp3 server and the linked server is still giving me an issue.

I need to Import Data TblShift from Access to SQLServer €“ using DTS I€™ve done this successfully!

Now I want to use parameter so I only importing record within range (e.g. ShiftDate BETWEEN 05-24-2006 AND 06-23-2006)

In SQLServer, I have created table to store the date range as following:

DateFrom: 04/24/2006
DateTo: 05/23/2006

How do I use the date range from TblParameter(SQLServer) to import record from TblShift(Access) using DTS?

Is this possible or any better solution for this?

Hi,
I am new to SQL Server 2005. I tried connecting to my local machine by using my machine name as Server name and then tried running the following query:
SELECT * FROM SYS.Objects. It gives me following error:
Invalid object name 'sys.objects'.

Whereas, if I connect to my local machine using mahcinenameSQLEXPRESS, then the above mentioned query runs fine.

Why is this difference? What is the difference when I login in these 2 different ways.
Any help would be appreciated.

A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor". Please help me to fix this bug. I do not want to reformat my machine.

Good day ... I need to know how to make a LOB column in sqlserver...
In table creation I definde the column that will receive the binary data as nvarchar(MAX)
the problem now that whenever I try to read it back I get this error
Unable to cast object of type 'System.String' to type 'System.Byte[]'.and when I define the column as varbinary(MAX) it cant real handle large objects
I have a method that will return a DataTable Here's the code that I use to write

Just Pull changed and new data it with the help of CR DB2 ODBC drivers periodically...

Why SQLServer ?

I have a choice of working with either SQLServer or Oracle within my company. I need to advise them which way to go. I need to support a couple of hundred users in a mixed workload environment (OLTP, Batch & Reporting)
The O/S will be Windows 2003 Server. My understanding is that Oracle is the better database technically but SQLServer is cheaper and easier to integrate with other MS technologies. My company will most likely buy into whatever technology will deliver value for money but also be secure and be able to scale.
Any views gratefully received.

SQLServer 32-bit Vs 64-bit

We're starting to think about migrating a 2000 32-bit sql/server to 64-bit (probably 2005). Performance gains are tempting when it can easily be bought, almost a management mantra . I've been doing some reading about the pro's and con's, most of what I've found is pro, very little on the con.
My impression is that the 64-bit version(s) is faster in most case, if not all. It would seem that most of the performance improvement is gained by the heavier equipment and overcome memory limitations. Too me, it looks like the integration of hw/os/sql is made very tight on 64-bit, more than 32-bit, which might be the main reason for the improvements.

Call me skeptical but I'm looking for some more con's and a little less on the "great, fantastic, improved and hoorah" that I've been reading. Anyone out there returned to 32-bit after a 64-bit disaster?

It was fine to import .dbf into sql table through DSN.But while exporting the destination connection source was not provided for ODBC DSN

If any one some clue then revert back.

when i between in sqlserver it means it includes that date also
for example
select * from tbltest where joindate between '1/2/2002' AND '2/2/2002'
in this case joindate having 2-2-2202 09:30:01.000 is not coming
why is it like this
what is need to add to get 2-2-2202 09:30:01.000 in between
