I have got an SQL query which gives me some report against some data fed in .How can I set this query to run from a browser window .Meaning there will be some form where we input the data ( say date ) and run that query from the browser windows against that data .and the results are displayed in the browser window .

I installed SQL Server 2008 Express lastnight, and the server is running but I am unable to get Server Broswer, or Server Agent to start, when either is tried I get the following error:WMI Provider error.The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

I use SQL Server 2005 for multi-user access. In the Surface Area Configuration, I changed the protocol from TCP/IP to Named Pipes and restarted the service. Then I went to SQL Server Browser, stopped it and clicked on Start to restart. I am getting a message "An error occurred while performing this operation". I am not able to get the Browser started.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I tried the instructions in sqlexpress's WebLog to connect to a remote database.
Using SQL Server Configuration Manager I enabled TCP/IP and then tried to start the browser service.
When I right clicked the icon, all the options (Start,Stop,etc) are grayed out.
Can anyone help me with this, please?

I was trying to start the SQL Server Browser service but to no avail. I got the error message from WMI Provider Error and the following is the description of it
"The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it. [0x80070422]"
By the way, this is for SQL Server 2005 Express Edition running on XP Pro.
Wondering if anyone might be able to help me out.

I was unable to start SQL Browser Services (time out) after installing SQL Server 2005 Analysis Services. The configuration of the server is
1. Win 2003 R2
2. Sql Server 2000 SP4
3. Sql Server 2005
Anybody has encountered this before? Any advice will be good.

I just finished installing SQL Server 2005 Express including the Toolkit.
During installtaion I selected instance name as SQLExpress.
I cannot start SQLServer nor SQL Browser services and reports Event ID 7000 with a message Path not found.
Although, the entire installation ran error free. I am running Winodws XP Professional w/SP2 and up-to date patches. Please help!

Hi,
We have development and user acceptance (UA) servers. When I start a job on the development server, on the management studio, Start Jobs window and Job activity windows indicate "Executing" until the end of the job and finish with "success" or "failure"
But on the UA server, second after I start a job, Start Jobs window comes up with "success" or failure" and Job activity monitor says "idle" but Job continues to log without any error message and updates the tables. So these two windows are not reliable at all. I have to add that I have only job operator rights on the UA server.
Does anybody know what the reason is ?

I just found an odd bug and was wondering if anyone else has seen this.Any templpate file in the directory 'C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQLServer80ToolsTemplatesSQL Query Analyzer' that has the NTFScompression turned on (that is, colored blue in Windows Explorer) doesnot display in the object browser's template tab of query analyzer.Control-Shift-Insert works fine to insert a template, however.What's up with that?

I realise this'll probably seem like a very silly question, but is there any way of changing the font and font size in a query window in MS SQL Server Management Studio Express?
It would just make life a lot easier if I could see more of the text!

When one executes a query in v7.0, the results in the result window are hard to look at one as one has to scroll sideways to see the entire rpt. Is there a better way (hgighlight) to view it so I can see the whole report without scrolling sideways?

I have several default constraints defined on a table. When I use theObject Browser and expand the constraints for this table andright-click and then select "Script Object to New Window As Create", acreate constraint statement for a different default constraint isdisplayed than the one I just right-clicked on. For example, I clickon constraint "DF_C" and it shows me "DF_B".The last time I encountered this, the solution was to dump contents ofthe table into another, drop, recreate it, and restore the contents.That's not a good option this time.Is there another way to fised this or at least navigate the catalog tofind out what is "off" about this?Thanks

Does anyone know why a backup database statement aborts a job in a stored procedure so that you can't handle the error with @@error, but when you run the same stored procedure in a query window the error handling does get run?

When this is run in a query window, the print statement at the bottom does get executed, but when run as a step in a sql agent job it does not.

Executing the stored procedure took 45 seconds. But copying the code to a query window and setting up the variables (instead of parameters), it took 7 seconds.
In the query window, most of the processing cost (86%) is right up front in a "Distinct Sort." But in exec stored procedure, the cost for this step is 11% and the significant costs are in later "Table Scans."
I don't know why SQL Server would choose different execution plans when the code is identical in each.
Any quick insights?

i have worked three days on a query to display all my results in a beautiful report. The query is fine because when i execute it in Query Analyzer i have all results i want to see in my statistics-table in my report...
One thing: it's contains about 100 unioned statements, which results in a super-long query. Performance is OK because it are all 100 very easy statements that are union-ed together.
But, when I copy-paste it in my query-string window/textbox of the report designer, I see that there's a maximum on that textbox lenght, which results in the fact that my long query suddenly stops.
Any solutions????
Bit of a strange one here. We have a SQL Express instance running with one database which is accessed by a VB6 client application.
Performance between the application and the database isn't great, but bizarrely if you open a Query window from the Management Studio (against the database) the performance dramatically improves - to the extent that it is visually noticeable from within the application.
So, I'm thinking that the database connections being made by the application are taking longer because of instance name resolution or the like and with the Query window open this resolution is performed quicker.
Has anyone come across this situation? I can re-create it on several different computers each with their own Express instance and I've not found anything about this on the net.
Here's the connection string used by the application - I have tried various permutations of values to no avail:
Provider=SQLOLEDB.1;Initial Catalog=SampleDB;Data Source=(local)sqlexpress;Trusted_Connection=yes

I'm having some performance issues with a TSQL query. It's a complex statement but the main issue is the correlated query.
How can I convert this
SELECT TOP 5
(SELECT SUM(lt2.col3)
FROM dbo.MyTable2 lt2

... to an inner join or a sql2012 window function?
By the way, I just added the TOP 5 myself while testing. It's not in the main query.

I'm a little lost on where to start. I have two tables:
Table11..........Table2
Name.............ID1
ID.................ID2
....................Link
All I want to do is list all the names from Table1 where:
Table1.ID <> Table2.ID1
AND
Table1.ID <> Table2.ID2
Sounds easy, but I'm very new to SQL in general and can't get the results at all. Any help in the right direction would be great.
Performance issue.
I have a very complex Stored Procedure called by a Job that is Scheduled to run every night.
It's execution takes sometimes 1 or 2 hours and sometimes 7 hours or more.
So, if it is running for more than 4 hours I stop the Job and I run the procedure from a Query Window and it never takes more than 2 hours.
Can anyone help me identify the problem ? I want to run from the Job and not to worry about it.
Some more information:
- It is SQL 2000 Enterprise with SP4 in a Cluster (It happens the same way in any node).
- The SQL Server and SQL Agent services run using a Domain Account that have full Administrative access.
- When I connect to a Query Window I also use a Windows Account.
- There is no locks or process bloking or being blocked while the job is running.
- Using the Task Manager the processor activity is ok, no more than 30 % in any processor.
Hi,I have a web application using Stored Procedure (SP). I see that there's a SP taking long time to execute. I try to capture it by Profiler Tool, and find out that with the same SP on the same db with the same parameter. Suddenly I find myself in need of a SQL search that ONLY starts at a record. I need to page through the existing records, but start at the users choice.
Here's my dilema, I want to run a stored procedure that starts another stored procedure running, but does not wait for the stored procedure to complete execution.
The stored procedure should execute immediately, and leave the other procedure to complete running in the background. Is there any way to do this?

I have a problem, in filtering the records returned by a query.
I have a table which contains 1 million records, it has a user defined primary key which is of character type.
The problem is i need to filter the output of a select query on the table based on two parameters i send to that query.
The first parameter will be the starting row number and the second one is the ending row number.
I need a procedure to do this.
For Eg:
MyProc_GetRowsFromBigTable(startRowNo,endRowNo) should get me only the rows in the specified range.
