Stop DTS Package From Running
May 6, 2008
I'm trying to stop a DTS package from continuing to run after the result of the following ActiveX script:
Function Main()
If day(date) > 2 and day(date) < 10 and weekday(date) = 2 Then
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success
Else
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Failure
End if
End Function
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi everyone,
I've created a DTS package runs on every day and night, but now my boss was asking if I can insert an exception code to check the view file.
So.. I need help from you guys, cause I don't know How.
This is my DTS description.
My DB will generate a view called "Calls to Add", then it will run the Transform Data Task and insert into a txt file. once it finished, it will run the Batch file. that is it.
Now My boss wants me to add a checking code between "View to Txt" procedure. If the view has no record inside, than the DTS package should stop and not run.
BUT How??? Can someone please help?? Thanks

hi all!
i have two packages, one that adds data to a Fact Table (package1) and one that updates the dimension tables (package2). i want package1 to run all day, as it waits for incoming csv files and i want it to stop every night at 11pm and run package2, which updates dimension tables. then package2 should stop at say, 1am and package1 would run again. i tried setting the Daily Frequency schedule of package1 to occur every 24hours starting at 3pm and ending at 3:15pm, just to test if it will stop at 3:15pm, but it didnt. how can i create a job schedule that will perform the behavior? thanks a lot!

Hi
What SSIS Task or process can i use to stop my Control Flow Process from running?
I created a SQL Task to do a count on a table to see if there is data, if the count is > 0 then the Control Flow task must continue, else it uses a RAISERROR statement which i use with the event handler, but i want to put something in the event handler to stop the process then and not continue?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

We have 3 maintenance jobs configured in this particular DB instance:
Daily backup of system database - SubPlan1 (Check Database Integrity Task --> Rebuild Index Task-->Backup Database Task)Daily backup of user databases - Five subplans for each task : (Check DB integrity --> Rebuild Index -->Backup User Database, Backup Log -->Cleanup History)Weekly maintenance - SubPlan1 (Check Database integrity job (system+user DB)Â + rebuild index job (system+user DB) )
PROBLEM: I just noticed that the User DB Rebuild Index task has been running since the 03/04 and the Weekly maintenance plan - subplan1 since the 12/04.
Which job is "safe" to stop without impacting the database?

Hi,
In one of my packages, I have a script component to do a transformation and I am inserting the output to table. Within that script component, if the data does not match my requirement, I have to stop the job. For that, I am using 'componentmetadata.fireError' to raise an error. The problem is, now even when an error is raised, the job completes by loading the remaining records and then aborts. But I want to abort the job as soon it raises an error. How to do this?
Thanks.

Hi,
I have a package with For Loop container.
It looks like this:
FOR LOOP (until @IsCurrent < 1) [
[Execute Package Task 1] --> [Execute Package Task 2] --> [Execute SQL Task] --expression--> [Script Task]
]
So, in the [Execute SQL Task], it runs a stored procedure, which returns a 0 or 1 value, which is bound to the variable @IsCurrent. The variable then gets evaluated in the "expression." If @IsCurrent is 0, execution continues to the [Script Task]. That part works fine.
The problem is occurring in the [Script Task] portion. All the Script Task does is "sleep" for 3 minutes. Here is an excerpt of the code:
Dts.Variables("sleepCounter").Value = CInt(Dts.Variables("sleepCounter").Value) + 1
If CInt(Dts.Variables("sleepCounter").Value) = 20 Then
Dts.TaskResult = Dts.Results.Failure
Exit Sub
End If
So, as you can see, if "sleepCounter" = 20, it fails the task, which should then fail the package, right??
However, the package keeps running, even after sleepCounter has exceeded 20. The MaximumErrorCount on the For Loop container is set to 20 also. So after 20 failures, this package should fail, but it isn't!
Any ideas?
Thanks

ActiveX Script 1
Option Explicit
Function Main()
Dim vDate, vCounter, vBranchCode, vPath
vDate="011207"
vCounter=DTSGlobalVariables("gVarCounter").Value
IF vCounter<=3 THEN

DTSGlobalVariables("gVarPath").Value=vPath & vDate & "_" & vBranchCode & ".xls"
Main = DTSTaskExecResult_Success
ELSE
<This is where i will initialize the global variable gVarCounter, so in the next execution..the value should be back to 1>
DTSGlobalVariables("gVarCounter").Value=1
<DTS Process should stop execution...how is this?>
END IF
End Function
After excel to sql dts
ActiveX Script2
Function Main()
IF gVarCounter<=3 then
DTSGlobalVariables("gVarCounter").Value=DTSGlobalVariables("gVarCounter").Value+1
DTSGlobalVariables.Parent.Steps("DTSStep_DTSActiveScriptTask_1").ExecutionStatus=DTSStepExecStat_Waiting

END IF
End Function

Hi All,
I have some clarifications on stopping my package once cube is refreshed or processed.
Below i have given steps for the transformation in my package
Let me give you what are all the dataflow transformations that i had given in my package.
1. Data Flow Task
2. Script Task 1- I have written code for getting the last processed cube (global variable has been declared for Last processed cube date - lastProcessedCube)
3. Script Task 2 - I have written code for SS_Batch table where i can get Create_Ts date that is assigned to another global variable - create_ts.
4. Analysis Processing Task.
In between Script Task 2 and Analysis Processing Task i have given @lastProcessedCube > @create_ts for Expression and Constraint under Precedence Constraint Editor
Actually i need to run package for every 10 minutes which i can do it in Job Schedule and need to refresh or process the cube daily. Is there any way to stop the package once when my cube is processed on that day. Again start the package for the next day.... Is it possible to do this? Please let me know.
Thanks in Advance,
Anand Rajagopal

Hi everyone,
After a Execute method I would need to stop a package but I don't know why:
sResultDts = pkg.Execute(Nothing, Nothing, EventsSSIS, Nothing, Nothing)
I have a Events class (EventSSIS) which implements IDTSEvents and have an OnQueryCancel event but without parameters, such so:
Function OnQueryCancel() As Boolean Implements IDTSEvents.OnQueryCancel
Return False
End Function
Let me know how to pass a boolean parameter because of I can't overloaded OnQueryCancel method
TIA-

I am using SQL Server 2012 SP1. I have built an SSIS package that imports flat file data from various files to SQL Server. I have got it to do everything I want it to do when things are going well, and am now on what I want it to do when it encounters a failure executing specific tasks and containers. For example, I have a Foreach Loop container that executes a dedicated stored procedure for each csv file in the target folder. If any of the store procedures fail to run for any reason I want to carry out certain actions.
For the most part I think I will be fine using the Event Handlers. What I can't seem to find is how to tell the package to stop executing on a Failure event after carrying out the actions defined by the relevant Event Handler. Or, perhaps it isn't necessary as that would be the default behaviour on a failure?

Hi, this is my first post and I'm relatively new to SSIS so please go easy on me.
Without going into too much detail about it, I've set up a simple SSIS package which does this in a nutshell:
Foreach loop picks up all *.xls files in a given folder
1 - Puts the name of the current spreadsheet into a variable
2 - File System Task copies the current spreadsheet ("abc.xls") to a file called "work.xls"
3 - Data Flow task performs data extraction on "work.xls" and puts it into a SQL server database
4 - File System Task moves "abc.xls" into a "success" folder
Continues with loop - move onto next spreadsheet
This works fine, so long as the spreadsheets all have the same number of columns.
As soon as one of them has a column missing (believe me, this will happen - we're dealing with users here) the package falls over at step 3.
When the package comes across an erroneous spreadsheet, what I'd like to do is move the offending file to a failure folder (making step 4 either a success or failure file move) and carry on with the next one.
I know that you can have an error path (the red line) from any step within the dataflow task, but this doesn't help me because the error lies in the structure of the spreadsheet and not the contents.
I've already come up with a work around whereby each file is moved into the failures folder just after step 2, then moved from the failures folder into the success folder at step 4.
This almost gives me what I want, although of course the package still falls over whenever it encounters a dodgy looking spreadsheet.
Is there any way that I can get the package to do what I'm after?
Many thanks,
Simon

Hi All,
I am in the process of moving from a 32-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (9.0.3054) to a 64-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise (9.0.3054 with 4 CPUs and 8GB of memory on Win 2003 SP2) and the process has been very frustrating to say the least. I am having a problem with packages that I created on my 64-bit SQL Server. I am importing a few tables from the 32-SQL Server into the 64-bit SQL Server using the Task --> Import to create the package.
Sometimes when I am creating a package I get the following error in a message box:
SQL Server Import and Export Wizard
The SSIS Runtime object could not be created. Verify that DTS.dll is available and registered. The wizard cannot continue and it will terminate.
Additional information: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt. (System.Windows.Forms)
Other times when I run a package that has run successfully before I get the following error:
Faulting application dtexecui.exe, version 9.0.3042.0, stamp 45cd726d, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, stamp 00000000, debug? 0, fault address 0x025d23f0.
Other times I get this error message:
.NET Runtime version 2.0.50727.1433 - Fatal Execution Engine Error (79FFEE24) (80131506)
And still other times
The package appears to hang when running. By this I mean that the Package Execution Progress shows progress up to a point then it just stops. (The package takes about 17 seconds to run normally) CPU usage is at 1% and the package cannot be stopped.
I have deleted and re-created the package several times and I have also re-installed the service pack on the SQL Server (9.0.3054) but that did not help.
Does anyone have any other suggestions to try?
Thanks.

Hi there
We have a SSIS run which runs as follows
The master package has a configuration file, specifying the connect strings
The master package passes these connect-strings to the child packages in a variable
Both master package and child packages have connection managers, setup to use localhost. This is done deliberately to be able to test the packages on individual development pc€™s.
We do not want to change anything inside the packages when deploying to test, and from test to production. All differences will be in the config files (which are pretty fixed, they very seldom change). That way we can be sure that we can deploy to production without any changes at all.
The package is run from the file system, through a job-schedule.
We experience the following when running on a not default sql-server instance (called dkms5253uedw)
Case 1:
The master package starts by executing three sql-scripts (drop foreign key€™s, truncate tables, create foreign key€™s). This works fine.
The master package then executes the first child package. We then in the sysdtslog get:
Error - €œcannot connect to database xxx€?
Info - €œpackage is preparing to get connection string from parent €¦€?
The child package then executes OK, does all it€™s work, and finish. Because there has been an error, the master package then stops with an error.
Case 2:
When we run exactly the same, but with the connection strings in the config file pointing to the default instance (dkms5253), the everything works fine.
Case 3:
When we run exactly the same, again against the dkms5253uedw instance, but now with the exact same databases defined in the default instance, it also works perfect.
Case 4:
When we then stop the sql-server on the default instance, the package faults again, this time with
Error - €œtimeout when connect to database xxx€?
Info - €œpackage is preparing to get connection string from parent €¦€?
And the continues as in the first case
From all this we conclude, that the child package tries to connect to the database before it knows the connection string it gets passed in the variable from the master package. It therefore tries to connect to the default instance, and this only works if the default instance is running and has the same databases defined. As far as we can see, the child package does no work against the default instance (no logging etc.).
We have tried delayed validation in the packages and in the connection managers, but with the same results (error).
So we are desperately hoping that someone can help us solve this problem.
Thanx,
/Nils M - Copenhagen

Hi I have completed my first SSIS master package which runs a whole lot of child packages depending on value of expressions on workflow. (refer http://www.sqlis.com/306-3.aspx)
Each of my child packages is .dtsx file location and each Excute Package task uses the file connection.
The master parent package is also a dtsx file location which will be run by a SQL Server 2005 Agent
All good--problem is testing from BIDs--each time a Excecute package task is run--turns yellow a new tab appears apears in the design window --showing you that particular .dtsx file control flow detail. DTS never had this behaviour --can I turn this off in the BIDS ie as I have dozens of new tabs at run time which makes it very hard to keep track of the master package. All I want is the master package running from BIDs, and no new tabs appearing at run time???
Thanks kindly

I am trying to run a SSIS package (called "Parent") that calls another package (called "Child"). The packages are stored in SQL Server (MSDB database) and are called from a console app by the code below:
Public Shared Function RunPackage(ByVal server As String, _
ByVal userName As String, _
ByVal password As String, _
ByVal packageName As String, _
ByVal packagePassword As String) As String
Dim pkg As New Package
Dim app As New Application
Dim pkgResults As DTSExecResult
Dim result As String = ""
app.PackagePassword = packagePassword
pkg = app.LoadFromSqlServer(packageName, server, userName, password, Nothing)
pkgResults = pkg.Execute()
result = pkgResults.ToString() & vbNewLine
For Each err As DtsError In pkg.Errors
result += "Task: " & err.Source & vbNewLine
result += ParseErrorMessage(err.Description) & vbNewLine
Next
Return result
End Function
If I just run the Child package with this code, then it works! But is I run the Parent package from the same code, then it fails with this error: "Error 0x80004002 while preparing to load the package. No such interface supported".
The only difference between the 2 packages is that the Parent calls the Child, and the Child calls nothing.
The Connection Manager in Parent used to connect to Child uses SQL Server Authentication and it needs to be that.
My question: From VB.NET, how do I run a SSIS package that calls another package?

Hi Folks
I am calling SSIS package from my .net code. I want to know whether my package is still running or not. And if it is taking longer than a limit then execution of package should stop. I am executing package in different thread like this
DelegateExecute del = new DelegateExecute(pkg.Execute);
del.BeginInvoke(null, null);
As I explored, I learnt that RunningPackage class could help me in not only determining whether package is running butalso in stopping too. Unfortunately RunningPackage class is saying that there is no package running! Is Runningpackage works only with the packages running from MSDB?
Following is the code I am using.
public string LoadPackage(string path, long ThrashHold)
{
string pkgLocation;
Package pkg;
Application app;
//DTSExecResult pkgResults;
string str;
pkgLocation = path;
app = new Application();
pkg = app.LoadPackage(pkgLocation, null);
//pkgResults = pkg.Execute();
long startDT = DateTime.Now.Ticks/10000;
DelegateExecute del = new DelegateExecute(pkg.Execute);
del.BeginInvoke(null, null);
DealPackage();
while (pkg.ExecutionStatus != DTSExecStatus.Completed)
{
//str = "pkg.ExecutionStatus = " + pkg.ExecutionStatus.ToString();
//str = str + "pkg.StartTime = " + pkg.StartTime.ToString();
//str = str + "pkg.StopTime = " + pkg.StopTime.ToString();
//str = str + "pkg.ExecutionDuration = " + (DateTime.Now.Ticks / 10000 - startDT).ToString();
//Console.WriteLine("********************************");
//Console.WriteLine(str);
//Console.WriteLine("********************************");

{
Console.WriteLine("********************************");
Console.WriteLine("package should be stopped");
//Console.WriteLine(str);
Console.WriteLine("********************************");
break;
}
}
str = "pkg.ExecutionStatus = " + pkg.ExecutionStatus.ToString();
str= str+"pkg.StartTime = " + pkg.StartTime.ToString();
str= str+"pkg.StopTime = " + pkg.StopTime.ToString();
str = str + "pkg.ExecutionDuration = " + pkg.ExecutionDuration.ToString();

dbr.EnterPackageDetail(path,pkg.ExecutionStatus.ToString(),pkg.StartTime.ToString(),pkg.StopTime.ToString(),pkg.ExecutionDuration.ToString());
return str;
}

When I ran a package directly on the machine with sql 2005 installed it ran at a fine speed. But when I used Remote Desktop to access the same client and run the same package it was much slower.
1. I think that the package is running in the memorycpu of the local machine. Is this correct?
2. Is there any way for the remote client to run the package in the server's memorycpu?

2 Questions:

2. If I need to change the owner of Joe's DTS package, how do I do that ?..just a simple 'Save as' ?..and if so, I will not be able to save the DTS package with the same name...and thereby the job will not recognize the new DTS package name...will I have to re-shedule the new DTS package ?
