Store C# Class Object In SQL Server 2005 Database
Nov 13, 2007I have a C# application, and I need to store instances of various class objects in a database. For Example:
myClass oMyClass = new myClass(args);
oMyClass.Property1 = something;
oMyClass.Property2 = something;
Now I need to store the oMyClass object in the database for later use, at which point I would get it out of the database, cast it back to myClass, and be able to acess its properties, etc. My problem is that the classes that I am working with are not serializable, so I cannot store the objects as XML. Does anyone have an example of doing this programmatically with C# and ADO.NET. I am assuming that I would have to store it in a vabinary column, but how do I get it in there. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Oct 10, 2007The device I'm working on has a filesystem on compact flash, but we're concerned about burning it up with excessive writes. One solution might be to keep the SQL database in the the object store, perhaps dumping a copy out to the CF as backup. Any pointers as to how to accomplish this? If we were to keep the db in a file on the CF, what's the SQL Server CE behavior for writing to the file? Does it write every time a record is created/updated, or is there any ability to control when the data is flushed to the file?

Jul 20, 2005I am creating a document management systems using asp. I have beenresearching the different ways of handling the documents such as using thefile system and storing the path in the db, and actually storing thedocument in the db. I like the idea of storing it in the database muchbetter because I can allow users to manage documents themselves (I alreadyhave the code in place to do it if I decide), having a central system withthe ability to add my own document properties by adding fields to the table,security, and backups. I have found that most think it is better to storethe path due to performance issues and the rate the db can grow. I havelooked at our current system in access and we have a total of 4400 documents(of which probably 25% are in the database but don't actually exist anymorein the file system, one hangup about the file system) since 1988. Thiscomes to about 300 documents added each year. The other thing is the issuewith the size of the db. I don't see a whole lot of difference with thisissue because it is going to take up space in your file system too, althoughthe file system may be more efficient at storing them. I would say that 95%of our docs are under 1 mb in size and done in ms word.The last thing is using full-text search capabilities in SQL Server. I needto be able to search the contents of the field.Is there other issues around storing documents in the db to consider besidesthe above?

Mar 27, 2006I have created a sql login account called "webuser" and has given public role in my database. In my asp.net application i build connection string using above account and its password . We give permission on store procedure for for the above account to execute .We dont give table level permission for the above account . When we run the application with the above settings it runs fine on test server . However Now i have transfered the databse object to live server with its permissions . Now while I executing the aspx page , I am getting above error . I have checked that the store procedure has execute permission for webuser account and dbo(i.e SA) has all the permissions for all database objects . Still why i am getting error ? (Please note , the thing is working fine in test server)

and one of My object's property's type is "Image" or "BitMap"
when i Drop that property in my report and set value in "Fields!MyPicture.Value" and Run that then i see "#Error"
when i drop an "Image" from Toolbar and set that in "Database" and set value in "Fields!MyPicture.Value" and Run that then i see a red "X"
how can i show my image property from business object in my Report (.rdlc)

Dec 20, 2005I was working on figuring out where a certain application wasstoring the multiple selection choices I was doing through the app.I finally figured out that they were being store in an IMAGEdata type colum with the variable length of 26 bytes.This is the first time I ran into such way of storing multipleselections in a single Image data type.Is this a better alternative than to store into a One-to-Manytables? If so then I'll have to consider using the Image datatype approach next time I have to do something like storing1 to thousands of selections.Thank you

I have a website and i am uploading the gif image to the database. i have used varchar(500) as the datatype and i am saving the file in the webserver so the path to it c:intepub....a.gif
my upload table has the folliwing feilds
UploadId Int Identity, Description, FileName, DiskPath varchar(500), weblocation varchar(500). I have a main sproc for the report where i am doing a inner join with other table to get the path of the gif..
So my question is how can i get a picture to show up on the report. .
What kinda datatype the gif file should be stored in the database? If it is stored as a varchar how can i access it and what is best way to reference that particular.
any help will appreciated....

General Users got an error message when trying to access any reports we have created.
All admin have no problems with the reports. Users (Domain Users) are given rights (Browser) to the reports and the Data Sources (Browser) and yet cannot view the reports.

The user has rights via a local group to the report and data source (Browser rights) and the local group has been added as a SQL login.
I gave rights to the databases themselves instead of just to SQL and the error changed (Ah-ha...progress, but why!?!?)

Apr 20, 2007I am using the 3-tiered architecture design (presentation, business laws, and data acess layers). I am stuck on how to send the image the user selects in the upload file control to the BLL and then to the DAL because the DAL does all the inserts into the database. I would like to be able to check the file type in the BLL to make sure the file being uploaded is indeed a picture. Is there a way I can send the location of the file to the BLL, check the filetype, then upload the file and have the DAL insert the image into the database? I have seen examples where people use streams to upload the file directly from their presentation layer, but I would like to keep everything seperated in the three classes if possible. I also wasn't sure what variable type the image would be in the function in the BLL that receive the image from the PL. If there are any examples or tips anyone can give me that would be appreciated.
