Stored Procedure Parameters Update Dynamically

Sep 22, 2014

I set up a stored procedure. My stored procedure has 8 variables declared at the beginning like this:

===========================
declare@IncurredDateStartsmalldatetime
,@IncurredDateEndsmalldatetime
,@PaidDateStart_CUsmalldatetime
,@PaidDateEnd_CUsmalldatetime
,@PaidDateStartsmalldatetime
,@PaidDateEndsmalldatetime

[Code] ....

All of these dates are based on the update of our data warehouse. This stored procedure runs a 5 step process and produces data for 8 - 10 monthly reports.

I was wondering if these variables can be updated dynamically and if they can how it is done.

Passing Two Or More Parameters To An Update Stored Procedure From VB6 Using ADO

May 26, 1999

I am trying to pass two parameters to a stored procedure using the code below:

Dim cmd As New Command
Dim rs As New Recordset
Dim prm As New Parameter
Dim ttt As New Parameter

cmd.ActiveConnection = cnn1
cmd.CommandText = "{call usp_PlcwithinUID_upt(?,?)}"
cmd.CommandType = adCmdStoredProc

Set prm = New Parameter
prm.Type = adInteger
prm.Value = gsPlcCode
cmd.Parameters.Append prm

Set ttt = New Parameter
ttt.Type = adVarChar
ttt.Value = "TEST"
cmd.Parameters.Append ttt

'cmd(1) = gsPlcCode
'cmd(2) = "Test"

Set rs = cmd.Execute

It works when passing one but NOT two ?? Can anyone shed any light ??
I've also tried using the Create Parameter method but again one is fine but passing two parameters doesn't work ?

The stored procedure just performs an update on a table.

Basically I want to be able to update any fields in a table (specific record) when they have been changed by the user. I have placed boolean variables in the change events to detect any user edits. If any field(s) have been edited I then want to send each field within the current record as parameters to the update stored procedure.

Any clues as to how to get an update stored procedure to except multiple variables.

I have trawled through loads of documentation to no avail.

Please help.

Stored Procedure Update Parameters Question

Nov 2, 2006

I just posted a question on WHERE clause impotence in SELECT command, I mean in my setting. It obviously should work on a global scale and now I have a problem with UPDATE command WHERE clause.

I am talking about a different SP now. It is supposed to update a record in a table.

Anyhow, the procedure did NOT seem to execute properly (did not update the record) when called from C# code but when I tried to exec it in the server it finally did work but raised a problem of safeguarding the unused parameters.

I do not need to update all columns in every call to the SP that uses UPDATE statement. Some parameters are left the way they are. I found out that if I ignore them they are set to default values which is NULL for DateTime. It essentially wipes out the values I inserted in the previous INSERT command when the record was created. Some of them were not NULLs.

if this is not just my freak observation, I would like to know how this problem should be handled to make sure that all column values are safe. If it is impossible to make them all not being updated every time a single parameter is updated it will create some problems for me in the client code: I will have to retreive all parameters, put them in variables or an ArrayList and then update the whole record wholesale.

How is it done by the experts?

Thanks.

Setting SqlDataSource Update Command And Parameters Dynamically C#

Aug 31, 2007

Hello all,
Ok, I finally got my SqlDataSource working with Oracle once I found out what Oracle was looking for. My next hurdle is to try and set the Update Command and Parameters dynamically from a variable or radiobutton list. What I'm trying to accomplish is creating a hardware database for our computers by querying WMI and sending the info to textboxes for insertion and updating. I got that part all working nicely. Now I want to send the Computer name info to a different table column depending on if it is a laptop or desktop. I have been tossing around 2 ideas. A radiobutton list to select what it is and change the SQL parameters or do it by computer name since we have a unique identifier as the first letter ("W" for workstation, "L" for Laptop). I'm not sure what would be easiest but I'm still stuck on how this can be done. I posted this same question in here a few days ago, but I didn't have my SqlDataSources setup like I do now, I was using Dreamweaver 8, it is now ported to VS 2005. Below is my code, in bold is what I think needs to be changed dynamically, basically i need to change DESKTOP to LAPTOP...Thanks for all the help I've gotten from this forum already, I'm very new to ASP.NET and I couldn't do this without all the help. Thanks again!

<asp:SqlDataSource ID="SqlDataSource2" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:CAT %>"ProviderName="<%$ ConnectionStrings:CAT.ProviderName %>" SelectCommand='SELECT * FROM "COMPUTER"' UpdateCommand="UPDATE COMPUTER SET DESKTOP = :DESKTOP, TECH = :TECH, SERVICE_TAG = :SERVICE_TAG WHERE USERNAME=:USERNAME">

I want to turn this SQL into a stored proc; there are currently about 8 parameters that I want to pass into it. The field value for each will be either NULL or a positive integer, and the paramater will be passed in as an integer.

If the passed parameter value is a positive integer then it should return all records where the corresponding field value matches that integer. If the passed parameter is 0, it should return all rows regardless of whether the field value is an integer or NULL.

And I can't for the life of me figure out how to do it. Do I need an IF statement in there or something?

:confused:

ADO.NET 2-VB 2005 Express Form1:Printing Output Of Returned Data/Parameters From The Parameters Collection Of A Stored Procedure

Mar 12, 2008

Hi all,
From the "How to Call a Parameterized Stored Procedure by Using ADO.NET and Visual Basic.NET" in http://support.microsft.com/kb/308049, I copied the following code to a project "pubsTestProc1.vb" of my VB 2005 Express Windows Application:

Imports System.Data

Imports System.Data.SqlClient

Imports System.Data.SqlDbType

Public Class Form1

Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load

Dim PubsConn As SqlConnection = New SqlConnection("Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;integrated security=sspi;" & "initial Catalog=pubs;")

Dim testCMD As SqlCommand = New SqlCommand("TestProcedure", PubsConn)

testCMD.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure

Dim RetValue As SqlParameter = testCMD.Parameters.Add("RetValue", SqlDbType.Int)

RetValue.Direction = ParameterDirection.ReturnValue

Dim auIDIN As SqlParameter = testCMD.Parameters.Add("@au_idIN", SqlDbType.VarChar, 11)

auIDIN.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input

Dim NumTitles As SqlParameter = testCMD.Parameters.Add("@numtitlesout", SqlDbType.Int)

NumTitles.Direction = ParameterDirection.Output

auIDIN.Value = "213-46-8915"

PubsConn.Open()

Dim myReader As SqlDataReader = testCMD.ExecuteReader()

Console.WriteLine("Book Titles for this Author:")

Do While myReader.Read

Console.WriteLine("{0}", myReader.GetString(2))

Loop

myReader.Close()

Console.WriteLine("Return Value: " & (RetValue.Value))

Console.WriteLine("Number of Records: " & (NumTitles.Value))

End Sub

End Class

//////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
The original article uses the code statements in pink for the Console Applcation of VB.NET. I do not know how to print out the output of ("Book Titles for this Author:"), ("{0}", myReader.GetString(2)), ("Return Value: " & (RetValue.Value)) and ("Number of Records: " & (NumTitles.Value)) in the Windows Application Form1 of my VB 2005 Express. Please help and advise.

Thanks in advance,

Dynamically Execute Stored Procedure

Oct 31, 2005

Hello,I was wondering if it is possible to dynamically execute a stored procedure; for example, in SQL, you can do:insert into Table1(   id, name)select id, namefrom Table2Can you do something like:exec spProc @id = id, @name = namefrom Table1Or something like that?  I know I can select a row at a time and execute, or write a program, but I was looking to see if there was an easier way.Thanks.

I want to dynamically determine which column I select data from. The table I want to select from looks like this:tblSexualitySexualityID int PKEN nvarchar(20)NL nvarchar(20)DE nvarchar(20)Based on the value of variable @LanguageColumnName I want to select the value from either column "EN", "NL" or "DE"In the sample below the value of @LanguageColumnName is "NL".Unfortunately the value of sexualityname is ALWAYS: "tblSexuality.NL" and not the value from that specific column...how can I alter my procedure so that it does the select the value from that column?ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[spFindUsers]@LanguageColumnName nvarchar(3),@startRowIndex int,@maximumRows intASBEGINSET NOCOUNT ON;

Dynamically Specify Server And Database In Stored Procedure

Feb 28, 2007

I am writing Stored Procedures on our SQL 2005 server that will link with data from an external SQL 2000 server. I have the linked server set up properly, and I have the Stored Procedures working properly. My problem is that to get this to work I am hardcoding the server.database names. I need to know how to dynamically specify the server.database so that when I go live I don't have to recompile all of my stored procedures with the production server and database name. Does anyone have any idea how to do this?

EXAMPLE:

SELECT field1, field2 FROM mytable LEFT OUTER JOIN otherserver.otherdatabase.dbo.othertable

OBJECTIVE:

Replace 'otherserver.otherdatabase.dbo.othertable' with some other process (dbo.fnGetTable('dbo.othertable')????)

Thanks for any help

Want A Stored Procedure To Dynamically Select Views Pulled From A Table.

Feb 1, 2007

I am building a dashboard features that allows user to select reports from a dropdownlist. It is pulling from a table called Reports (cols: ReportID, Description, sqlView) In this Report table the report is associated to a view that queries the report.
And the user's selections are stored in table called UserReport (cols: userID, ReportID, createDt) .
I need to get a Dataset to contain datables of all reports selected. (for example a user select 3 reports, the dataset should contain 3 datables that represent the report).
I want to accomplish this by create a store procedure that queries the Reports table and then dynamically executes the views that related to the user selected reports. Can anyone give me an example on how to create the storeprocedure?
Thanks,

How To Retrieve The Result From A Stored Procedure That Executes A Dynamically Built Up Sql Query?

Apr 2, 2008

We have a sort of complex user structure in the sense that depending on the type of user the data resides in different tables. Therefor I needed a stored procedure that finds out what table to look for a certain column in. Below is such a stored procedure and it works like it should but my problem is that I don't know how to retrieve the result (which should be a string so can't use RETURN).

I've tried using an OUTPUT variable but since I just run EXEC (@statement) in the end I can't really set an output variable the common way (as in EXEC @outputVariable = PMC_User_GetUserValue(arg1, arg2..)) or can I?

I have also tried to use SELECT to catch the result somehow but no luck and Google didn't help either so now I'm hoping for one of you... Notice that you don't have to bother about much of the code except for the end of it where I want it to return somehow or figure out a way to call this stored procedure and retrieve the result.

Thanks in advance
ripern

Execute Stored Procedure From Stored Procedure With Parameters

May 16, 2008

Hello,
I am hoping there is a solution within SQL that work for this instead of making round trips from the front end. I have a stored procedure that is called from the front-end(USP_DistinctBalancePoolByCompanyCurrency) that accepts two parameters and returns one column of data possibly several rows. I have a second stored procedure(USP_BalanceDateByAccountPool) that accepts the previous stored procedures return values. What I would like to do is call the first stored procedure from the front end and return the results from the second stored procedure. Since it's likely I will have more than row of data, can I loop the second passing each value returned from the first?
The Stored Procs are:
CREATE PROCEDURE USP_DistinctBalancePoolByCompanyCurrency
@CID int,
@CY char(3)
AS
SELECT Distinct S.BalancePoolName
FROM SiteRef S
INNER JOIN Account A ON A.PoolId=S.ID
Inner JOIN AccountBalance AB ON A.Id = AB.AccountId
Inner JOIN AccountPool AP On AP.Id=A.PoolId
Where A.CompanyId=@CID And AB.Currency=@CY

CREATE PROCEDURE USP_BalanceDateByAccountPool
@PoolName varchar(50)
AS
Declare @DT datetime
Select @DT=
(Select MAX(AccountBalance.DateX) From Company Company
INNER JOIN Account Account ON Company.Id = Account.CompanyId
INNER JOIN SiteRef SiteRef ON Account.PoolId = SiteRef.ID
Inner JOIN AccountBalance AccountBalance ON Account.Id = AccountBalance.AccountId
WHERE SiteRef.BalancePoolName = @PoolName)
SELECT SiteRef.BalancePoolName, AccountBalance.DateX, AccountBalance.Balance
FROM Company Company
INNER JOIN Account Account ON Company.Id = Account.CompanyId
INNER JOIN SiteRef SiteRef ON Account.PoolId = SiteRef.ID
Inner JOIN AccountBalance AccountBalance ON Account.Id = AccountBalance.AccountId
WHERE SiteRef.BalancePoolName = @PoolName And AccountBalance.DateX = @DT
Order By AccountBalance.DateX DESC

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Dave

Stored Proc Update Optional Parameters

Dec 3, 2003

I have a stored procedure that updates about a dozen rows.

I have some overloaded functions that I should update different combinations of the rows - 1 function might update 3 rows, another 7 rows.

Do I have to write a stored procedure for each function or I can I handle it in the Stored Procedure. I realise I can have default values but I the default values could overwrite actual data if the values are not supplied but have been previously written.

Many thanks for any guidance.

Stored Procedure Parameters

Oct 3, 2006

Hi,I have a problem with a call to stored procedure on SQL server. I created stored procedure for inserting a row to a table.In my application I read data from ASP.NET form and prepare parameters for calling my stored procedure. Like:            SqlCommand sc = new SqlCommand("AddToMyTable");            try            {                sc.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure;                sc.Connection = new SqlConnection("myconnectionstringhere");                SqlParameter param;                param = sc.Parameters.Add("@MyFirstParam", SqlDbType.NVarChar,50);                param.Value = "something";                 ..... here I repeate "add" and value assignment for all my parameters            }...When I call ExecuteNonQuery(); I get exception that one of the parameters for stored procedure is expected but not supplied. However, I can find this very same parameter in my source code to be added to list of parameters. I think my problem is caused by large number of parameters. I have 55 parameters, half of them are of type nvarchar(50) and half of them of type bit. My reasoning is based on the fact that if I remove parameter that is reported to be missing from my stored procedure and from my application, I get the same error with next parameter in the list.Where should I increase maximum number of parameters that are allowed? Do I have some buffer problem? Where to specify that I need more space for parameters? Nenad

A Stored Procedure With Many Parameters

Jan 1, 2008

There is a form in my project which users can add their emails through it. The maximum numbers of emails are 60. I put a textbox and a button for adding email. But I don’t know which of the following solutions is suitable:
1.       After each click by user , the insert stored procedure will be called
2.       All the emails entered by users will be saved and then, the insert stored procedure will be called. This SP must have a loop but I am not sure about the right code for this SP because I have to define 60 input parameters for this SP.

first one will NOT be a result set, and second one will
Whats the basic difference between that? I need to use a NextResult method within a .cs filebut it is not working

Stored Procedure With Parameters

as
select @inputvar
go

then I will create an .sql (such as mysql.sql) file that contains line:
exec my_sp parameter

next, I would like to call this .sql file using:
isqlw.... -i mysql.sql parameter?? -o output.txt

is it possible to do that way? Or is there any other way to do so?

Thanks a bunch,
nicoart.

Parameters In Stored Procedure

Feb 14, 2008

Parameters are passed to Stored Procedure from VB.NET Application like

Dim param As SqlParameter
param = New SqlParameter("@name",DbType.String)
param.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input
param.Value = "ABC"
comand.Parameters.Add(param)

But is there any way to specify parameters without specifying the
parameter name and type like

Dim param As SqlParameter
param = New SqlParameter
param.Direction = ParameterDirection.Input
param.Value = "ABC"
comand.Parameters.Add(param)

But when i try like this i am getting an error saying that "Parameter1 is not a parameter in the procedure"...
Can anybody tell me how to solve this .
Thanx in advance

Stored Procedure - Update Statement Does Not Seem To Update Straight Away

Jul 30, 2007

Hello,

I'm writing a fairly involved stored procedure. In this Stored Procedure, I have an update statement, followed by a select statement. The results of the select statement should be effected by the previous update statement, but its not. When the stored procedure is finish, the update statement seemed to have worked though, so it is working.

I suspect I need something, like a GO statement, but that doesnt seem to work for a stored procedure. Can anyone offer some assistance?
