Hi,
I wanted to use a default for yearly instead of monthly for stored procedure, but couldn't figure out how. I usually used stored procedure @start and @end for date.
i.e. this is monthly by default
@start = jul 2007 and @end= aug 2007;
i.e. i want yearly by default
@start = jul 2007 and @end= jul 2008.
Is this too confusing?
Please help!!!!!!!!!

Is there a way inside a stored procedure to determine if a parameter defined with a default value was explicity passed the same value as the default vs. the parameter was omitted and you just got the default value.
E.g. create procedure mysp_stuff @parm1 varchar(20)=NULL, @parm1 bit=0 as
if (@parm1 is null)
begin
-- did we get the default or did the caller pass NULL
end
if (@parm2 = 0
begin
-- did we get the default or did the caller pass 0
end
GO
EXEC mysp_stuff
go
EXEC mysp_stuff @parm1=NULL, @parm2=0
go

When I call this function and the database field 'Login' is null, then I get an error message "Conversion from type 'DBNull' to type 'String' is not valid." I've supplied a default value in my stored procedure and I've also provided a default value in the result value in the function. How do I get around this? Thanks
lblLastUserLogin.Text = GetLastUserLogin().ToString()
Private Function GetLastUserLogin() As String Dim result As String = "" Dim con As New SqlConnection("server=x.x.x.x;database=database;uid=x;password=x") Dim cmd As New SqlCommand("GetLastUserLogin", con) cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure cmd.Parameters.Add("@UserID", SqlDbType.Int).Value = lblUserID.Text cmd.Parameters.Add("@ReturnVal", SqlDbType.SmallDateTime).Direction = ParameterDirection.Output Using con con.Open() cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() result = CType(cmd.Parameters("@ReturnVal").Value, String) End Using Return resultEnd Function
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[GetLastUserLogin] -- OUTPUT parameter to hold the count. @UserID int, @ReturnVal smalldatetime = ' ' OUTPUT AS -- This will return the last date returned by the SELECT query. Set @ReturnVal = (SELECT MAX(Login) FROM TUserLogs WHERE UserID=@UserID)

Hello
I've written a stored procedure with 4 parameters
create procedure dummy
( @a int, @b int, @c varchar(50), @d varchar(50))
now from front end(I'm using c#.net)
I want to send the values according to some criteria
So in the process...I've only values for @a & @c ...
so In order to reduce the code of sending Null values explicitly to other parameters...
can't I set like default values for it so that If I don't send values to certain parameters it will have the default value or Null value.
like I want something like this:
create procedure dummy
( @a int NULL, @b int NULL, @c varchar(50) NULL, @d varchar(50) NULL)

I'm generating a list of parameters needed by stored procedures, and
I'd like to know which ones have default values assigned to them.
To retrieve the parameter information I use:
sp_sproc_columns @Procedure_Name='InsertUser''
However, the column that is supposed to give the default value,
'COLUMN_DEF' always returns as NULL, even when that column has a
default value assigned to it.
i.e.
CREATE PROCEDURE InsertUser@UserID INT = 10,.....
And then if I do a sp_sproc_columns @Procedure_Name='InsertUser'', the COLUMN_DEF value for the @UserID column is still NULL.
Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong and how I can retrieve the default value?
Thanks

If a sqldatasource is programed to send textbox1.text to a stored procedure, and the .text property is left empty, and there is no default value set for the parameter, what exactly is the stored procedure receiving?I would like to run a IF BEGIN statement on the value of the parameter in the stored procedure but the following does not work:IF @Parameter IS NULL BEGINor IF @Parameter = '' BEGINThe only way I've gotten it to work is if I set the default value of the parameter being sent to a specific alphanumeric value. Then do something like:IF @Parameter = '99' BEGIN<Code Here>END

one of my SQL Developer member had one observation that, size of the parameter 'Parameter_XYZ' in certain stored procedure had changed from 25 to 255 during some production fixes, however suddenly its looks like that, someone has changed it back to 25 instead of 255.
DECLARE @Parameter_XYZ
varchar(25);
Can we figure out in which sprint/drop the stored procedure was changed and the Parameter_XYZ back to 25. Can any log recovery mechanism will get such details.
Can we get stored procedure text between different alteration.

need help with my problem
i have this view
this code change the value field "new_unit" evry month from 1 > 2 > 3 > 4
like this evry 4 month it return to 1 >2..........
------------------------------------------ for example
if i put
unit_date = 01/05/2008
and unit=1
than new_unit=1
Code Snippet
SELECT empID, ShiftType, unit_date, unit, ISNULL(NULLIF ((unit - DATEDIFF(mm, unit_date, '01/01/' + CONVERT(varchar, YEAR(GETDATE())))) % 4, 0), 4)
AS new_unit
FROM dbo.empList
my question is how to create a stored procedure that move forward (all the employee) the "new_unit" field
in +1 OR "unit_date" value MONTH +1
like create stored procedure name "plus" + so if i run this name stored procedure name "plus"
the stored procedure go to the viewor table and change the code view or table value
so i forward all the the "new_unit" or "unit_date" value IN one (change the cycle)+1
it doesn't matter if it change the "unit" value in the table "dbo.empList" or "unit_date" value
the important thing is that i can forward +1 or backward -1
evry time i run the stored procedure i get +1 (in the "new_unit")
and olso
create stored procedure name "minus" + so if i run this name stored procedure name "minus"
this stored procedure that move backward the the "unit" value in the table "dbo.empList" or "unit_date" value in -1
TABLE dbo.empList
empid ShiftType unit_date unit
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
11111 6 01/01/2008 1
2222 8 01/03/2008 4
3333 9 01/04/2008 3

How Can I Control the data type for each parameter ??
Or
How Can I Change the data type of the parameter for the Deployed Stored Procedure ??

Client/Server machine: Windows Xp Pro (SP2) (latest patches)
Office Software: Access 2003 (latest patches)
Database S/W: SQL Server 2005 (latest patches)
The following error message is displayed when trying to modify a stored procedure.
This version of Microsoft Access doesn't support design changes to the
version of Microsoft SQL Server your project is connected to. See the
Microsoft Office Update Web site for the latest information and downloads
(on the Help menu, click Office on the Web). Your design changes will not be
saved.
However, if you save, close and re-open the stored procedure having made the required changes, the changes have been saved.
Is there any way to suppress the error message / hotfix available from microsoft since the error message appears to be completely erroneous ?
Have I provided enough detail as this is my first post ?

Hi, all, does anyone know of a way to change default values inside of a table without affecting existing values?
I have a table with default = 0 in usermask column. Some rows already have non 0 values in them. I now need to change the default to 1 but still want the non 0 values be there. I also want the new default to take effect when new rows are entered. What's the best and quickest way to do it?
Thanks for advice.

The default location where db's are created is almost full.
Is there any way to change the default location where the .mdf and .ldf are created when I create a new db? I know I can do this when I create a new db and go select where I want it to be, but can I make it default to a different directory automatically so no human intervention is needed?
