Stored Procedure And SQL Job Agent Task

Feb 5, 2007

I have a stored procedure thats transferring/processing data from one
table to two different tables. The destination tables have a unique
value constraint as the source tables at times has duplicate records
and this will prevent the duplicates from being reported. When the
stored procedure (which includes a cursor) is executed through query
analyzer, it runs fine, and reports an error everytime it sees a
duplicate value (as expected). It moves all the unique values from the
source to the destination tables.

However, if the same stored procedure is run as a task/job in SQL
Server Agent, the behaviour is different. The job fails when it see's
the error and ends up skipping records or terminating the procedure
all together. Eg. if there are 100 records in the source table with 10
duplicates, the stored procedure when run through Query Analyzer will
copy the 90 unique records to the destination tables but when run from
SQL-Agent, it copies just 10-15 records.

Any idea why this happens?

Integration Services :: Stored Procedure In Execute Task Fails But Task Does Not Fail

Jul 1, 2015

I'm using SSIS in Visual Studio 2012. My Execute SQL Task calls a Stored Procedure where I have a TRY-CATCH. Last week there was a problem and the CATCH was executed and logged an error to my error table, but for some reason the Execute SQL Task didn't fail. Is there a setting to make the Execute SQL Task fail when an SP encounters a failure?

Stored Procedure Works, Agent Job Aborts

Oct 8, 2006

One of my clients has a stored procedure on their secondary server thatcopies a bunch of data from the production server. (Replication willbreak the accounting software, according to its authors. The productionserver generates a nightly full backup, so if the secondary can bescripted to do a nightly restore from that same file, then that wouldprobably be a Big Win.)Anyway, if I execute the stored procedure from Query Analyzer, itfinishes (after nearly 24 hours) - tested once recently, and I'm sureat least a few times at some point in the past. If I run a SQL ServerAgent job that executes the stored procedure, then it gets cut off afterabout 15-20 minutes - tested once recently with a manual run, and forseveral weeks of scheduled runs before that. (This being a secondaryserver, it took a while for the problem to be noticed.) What are thelikely causes of this? Both servers are running SQL 2K with SP3, and limited to TCP/IP andnamed pipes. RPC is allowed, with a 600-second timeout, but thatdoesn't seem relevant, since both the successful and unsuccessfulmethods go well past that length. The production server is a recentpurchase, and works well for their daily operations; the secondaryserver and/or its network connection might be flaky for all I know, but that doesn't seem relevant either, since success appears todepend consistently on method of execution.

Execute Sql Server Agent Job Task - Job Immediately Returns Success... However Agent Job Is Still Running???

Nov 30, 2006

when I run a package from a command window using dtexec, the job immediately says success.
DTExec: The package execution returned DTSER_SUCCESS (0).
Started: 3:37:41 PM
Finished: 3:37:43 PM
Elapsed: 2.719 seconds

However the Job is still in th agent and the status is executing. The implications of this are not good. Is this how the sql server agent job task is supposed to work by design.

Data Truncated When Stored Procedure Run From Sql Server Agent

Apr 18, 2008

I have a stored procedure which loops thru about 180 tables and inserts the data into one table used for reporting purposes. One field is a ntext field. If I execute the stored procedure from query analyzer the entire contents of the ntext field is available. When I run as scheduled task (every 1/2 hour) from sql server agent, the data in the ntext field is truncated.

SQL 2012 :: SSIS Set Stored Procedure Parameter Dates Via Agent?

Aug 15, 2014

To set the scene I am using SQL 2012, in project deployment mode (SSIS Catalog rather than file system).I have setup an SSIS package to run a stored procedure which exports data for the last hour to a .tsv file and then FTP's the file to some other location via a sql agent job - This all works fine. However, I can see there may be a requirement to run the package with dates that need to be set i.e. in the event of a lost file of some other reason the package has not run and missed some of its hourly slots and the customer requires the files to be resent.

The stored procedure I am using has parameters for "DateOverride" - boolean), "start" and "end" dates (datetime) with defaults set "0" for "DateOverride" and null for the "Start" and "End" dates, I have built logic into the procedure which sets the dates if the parameters are null (as in the above to an hour before now). What I would like to be able to do (and this is to make it user friendly for support staff) is to be able to set parameters/variables in SQL agent with "DateOverride" set to "1" and the the dates I would like to be sent to the stored procedure "Start" and "End" parameters.

I did try using the parameters in SSIS which worked well when the values were true or false (0,1) but didn't work at all for the dates. If I left the dates as I had set them is SSIS it worked, but if I changed them (even if it was just changing the hour) the job errored/crashed and corrupted the job step leaving me the ability to only delete it.

Transform Data Task Vs Stored Procedure

Mar 9, 2007

Hi everybody

I'm still trying to learn the advantage of having stored procedures. I have a DTS that uses a Transform Data Task to append the result of a view into a table. All operations are done locally in the server.

Do I have any advantage if I write a stored procedure to insert the view into the table, and then call the stored procedure in the DTS, in stead of using the Transform Data Task ?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts

Merge Repliction - Run Stored Procedure When Merge Agent Starts

Jul 23, 2005

I have database on SQL Server 2000 set up with a merge publication. This publication is configured with a number of dynamic filters toreduce the amount of data sent to each client. Each client has ananonymous pull subscription. The merge process can be triggered by thewindows sync manager and my application. To improve performance I have created some helper tables to hold themapping between user login and primary keys of selected entities. For the replicated data to be correct the contents of the helper tablesneeds to be up to date.I need to fire off a stored procedure on the publisher beforereplication starts to verify that this data is up to date. I can notsee any documented way of doing this however I have been experimentingwith some unorthodox systems.Firstly has anyone any ideas?I have been considering adding a trigger to some of the tables used bythe Microsoft replication code - yes I know this is very nasty. My problems arise because executing this stored procedure will causesome data to be updated. In updating data we could create a newgeneration in the database. I must therefore run my stored procedurebefore any the Microsoft code makes any generation checks / updates.Anyone done anything similar, Anyone have any better ideas?Any comments would be gratefully received.

Urgent. Output Columns Are Not Appearing When I Use OLEDB Data Source With An Oracle Stored Procedure In Dataflow Task

Nov 12, 2007

I am using execute sql task to run a stored procedure in oracle database which returns a resultset. This works. Now I need to send the ouput to a destination table in a sql database. Should I use for each loop to pick the resultset and insert it into the destination one by one (which I dont think is a great idea) or is there a better way to accomplish this task (in data flow task) ?

When I use dataflow task instead of execute sql task, the main issue is I am not able to see the output columns when I execute an oracle stored procedure, but when I see the preview I can see the resultset . But I can see the output columns for a sql server stored procedure.

SSIS Hard Time Getting Back XML Return Data From Stored Procedure Call Executed By Execute SQL Task

Aug 9, 2006

I'm having a hard time to getting back an xml data back from a stored procedure executed by an Execute SQL task.

I'm passing in an XML data as a parameter and getting back resulting XML data as a parameter. The Execute SQL task is using ADO connection to do this job. The two parameters(in/out) are type of "string" and mapped as string.

When I execute the task, I get the following error message.

[Execute SQL Task] Error: Executing the query "dbo.PromissorPLEDataUpload" failed with the following error: "The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. Parameter 2 ("@LogXML"): Data type 0xE7 has an invalid data length or metadata length.". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.

I also tried mapping the parameter as XML type, but that didn't work either.

If anyone knows what's going on or how to fix this problem please let me know. All I want to do is save returning XML data in the parameter to a local package variable.

Thanks

Return Error Code (return Value) From A Stored Procedure Using A Sql Task

Feb 12, 2008

I have a package that I have been attempting to return a error code after the stored procedure executes, otherwise the package works great.

I call the stored procedure from a Execute SQL Task (execute Marketing_extract_history_load_test ?, ? OUTPUT)
The sql task rowset is set to NONE. It is a OLEB connection.

I have two parameters mapped:

tablename input varchar 0 (this variable is set earlier in a foreach loop) ADO.
returnvalue output long 1

I set the breakpoint and see the values change, but I have a OnFailure conditon set if it returns a failure. The failure is ignored and the package completes. No quite what I wanted.

The first part of the sp is below and I set the value @i and return.

CREATE procedure [dbo].[Marketing_extract_history_load_TEST]

@table_name varchar(200),

@i int output

as

Why is it not capturing and setting the error and execute my OnFailure code? I have tried setting one of my parameter mappings to returnvalue with no success.

FTP Task Failing When Using Agent Proxy

Jan 11, 2008

Hi,

I am having problems with an SSIS package whereby the first step of the package is failing. I am getting the following error message:

Unable to connect to FTP server using "FTPLocation".

This only happens when I use a Agent Proxy as the 'Run as' option. If I change it back to SQL Agent Service Account it works perfectly.

For the credentials of the proxy, I have used my own windows login as the identity. And I have full priveleges on the server, ie if I log on to the server I can successfully ftp to the same site and download the file without any problems. So shouldn't the Agent be able to do so too when it uses my credentials?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Cannot Run Package In Job Agent With Script Task Included

Sep 13, 2006

Dear,

Since I met the strange thing these days. I cannot make it clear that how can I run the SSIS Package in job agent? I hv tried the solutions within this forum, but still couldn't solve my problem.

I have set the right credentials with the admin role of SQL account. In my SSIS package, there is a script task which is used to find out the target flat file as connection string by a user defined variable.

Aspect 1:
If I disable this script task in my SSIS package, then choose "SQL Server Integration Services Package" as the step in Job Agent, run as a proxy, it can run this package without error.

But
if I enable the script task, then choose "SQL Server Integration
Services Package" as the step in Job Agent, run as a proxy. then the
error occurred:

Message
Executed as user: xxxxxxRpt_User. The package execution failed. The step failed.

Aspect 2:Enable the Script task, try to run the package with Dtsexec.exe in Dos command prompt window, it also works:
DTEXEC.exe /FILE "D:ProjectsBBIBBIDMBBI_SSISBBI_ACQ.dtsx" /MAXCONCURRENT " -1 " /CHECKPOINTING OFF
If use the "Operating System (CmdExec)" as the step in Job and type the same command, it will output the error by Job Agent after running:

Executed as user: xxxxxRpt_User. ....00.1399.06 for 32-bit Copyright (C) Microsoft Corp 1984-2005. All rights reserved. Process Exit Code 1. The step failed.

How come? The questions I want to ask Microsoft:
1. Why not keep the simple rule to run SSIS as the former DTS? Why need so much setting before running the package?!!!
2. Why does it prompt the error if a Script Task is included in a SSIS Package? But it works in Dos Command window with dtsexec.exe?

I would like to hear from all buddies here for the solutions. Many thanks for your  help.
