Stored Procedure Rights - Reportviewer In Asp.net Page - SSRS - VISTA
Sep 20, 2007
I have a VS2005 aspx page using the ReportViewer to view a SSRS 2005 Report, all running locally on a Vista Business laptop.
I have an error because the stored procedure that it executes does not have the rights to Drop or Create Tables.
I can Preview it fine in VS2005 and I can go to ReportManager and run it OK.
This all worked fine on my XP laptop, so I am guessing that it is the Account used by IIS(7) to get to the ReportServer.
Does anyone have any clues on this?
Does it use NT AUTHORITYIUSR or NT AUTHORITYNETWORK SERVICE, etc.
Thanks in advance
GC
Here's the message and the Tables do exist
An error has occurred during report processing.
Query execution failed for data set 'BranchHeadCountExistStartFinishTotalDS'.
Cannot drop the table 'ExistingStaff', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. Cannot drop the table 'Starters', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. Cannot drop the table 'Finishers', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. Cannot drop the table 'TotalFinish', because it does not exist or you do not have permission. Does anyone have a SP which will output all users and their permissions (dbo), (read), (write) for each database for SQL 2k? I'm trying to find a way to simply automate this so I can output the data on demand for auditors. I'm currently checking each users permissions on each database through security/logins :(

I would like to provide the db_datareader and db_executor role to a particular SQL Server Login in a database
But, I would like to avoid any INSERT's, UPDATE's or DELETE's that may happen by calling the stored procedures
I tried assigning the db_denydatawriter role but it doesn't seem to be doing the trick as the INSERT's, UPDATE's and DELETE's were still working
Is there any way to provide the db_datareader and db_executor role but avoid any DML actions.

I have a sub that passes values from my form to my stored procedure. The stored procedure passes back an @@IDENTITY but I'm not sure how to grab that in my asp page and then pass that to my next called procedure from my aspx page. Here's where I'm stuck: Public Sub InsertOrder() Conn.Open() cmd = New SqlCommand("Add_NewOrder", Conn) cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure ' pass customer info to stored proc cmd.Parameters.Add("@FirstName", txtFName.Text) cmd.Parameters.Add("@LastName", txtLName.Text) cmd.Parameters.Add("@AddressLine1", txtStreet.Text) cmd.Parameters.Add("@CityID", dropdown_city.SelectedValue) cmd.Parameters.Add("@Zip", intZip.Text) cmd.Parameters.Add("@EmailPrefix", txtEmailPre.Text) cmd.Parameters.Add("@EmailSuffix", txtEmailSuf.Text) cmd.Parameters.Add("@PhoneAreaCode", txtPhoneArea.Text) cmd.Parameters.Add("@PhonePrefix", txtPhonePre.Text) cmd.Parameters.Add("@PhoneSuffix", txtPhoneSuf.Text) ' pass order info to stored proc cmd.Parameters.Add("@NumberOfPeopleID", dropdown_people.SelectedValue) cmd.Parameters.Add("@BeanOptionID", dropdown_beans.SelectedValue) cmd.Parameters.Add("@TortillaOptionID", dropdown_tortilla.SelectedValue) 'Session.Add("FirstName", txtFName.Text) cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() cmd = New SqlCommand("Add_EntreeItems", Conn) cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure cmd.Parameters.Add("@CateringOrderID", get identity from previous stored proc) <------------------------- Dim li As ListItem Dim p As SqlParameter = cmd.Parameters.Add("@EntreeID", Data.SqlDbType.VarChar) For Each li In chbxl_entrees.Items If li.Selected Then p.Value = li.Value cmd.ExecuteNonQuery() End If Next Conn.Close()I want to somehow grab the @CateringOrderID that was created as an end product of my first called stored procedure (Add_NewOrder) and pass that to my second stored procedure (Add_EntreeItems)

Hi all,
I'm a newbie to Reporting Services so please forgive my ignorance...
I've recently installed SQL Server Express 2005 with Reporting Services on my Vista Business Notebook (with no network connections) and have installed VS C# Express as well as the Business Intelligence Studio to create reports.
My C# application can connect to SQL Server fine, however, the reports I created with Business Studio refuses to deploy to the server due to the following reason:
"The permissions granted to user 'localhostJenny' are insufficient for
performing this operation".
I find this odd as I've been able to deploy reports on my other Windows XP machine (with SQL Server Express) no probs at all. Additionally, I cannot see the 'Site settings' link within Report Manager (Web) that I'd normally get with an admin account (i.e. on my Win. XP machine). Various sources indicate that my account has insufficient access rights to view this.
Having browsed through seemingly endless blogs and forums, I suspect that my local account has not been configured to access the Report Manager web client to publish, manage and administer the site.
I have tried the surface area tool for SQL Server, but I suspect that this is relevant only to SQL Server DB access and management. Adding an administrator here does nothing.
The question is, how can I grant access to myself (local account) to allow me to publish reports via business studio, and at the same time - administer Report Manager Site Settings - on my vista notebook??
I would be extremely grateful for any help on this matter - I've tried ceaseless reinstallations, but to no avail!
Many thanks in advance,
Jenny

I am using a ReportViewer Control inside of a Windows Form and ran into an issue with the page navigation failing to update upon refresh (the report itself does refresh - the page navigation does not). If the initial report has one page and the subsequent refresh produces five pages, the page navigation window only shows one page. If you manually type in page two or three, nothing happens.
Here is a code snippet:
private void adpTaxServicesForm_Load(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
this.reportViewer.RefreshReport();
}
private void button1_Click(object sender, EventArgs e)
{
this.reportViewer.SuspendLayout();
this.reportViewer1.RefreshReport();
this.reportViewer.ResumeLayout();
}
Any help would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks,
-Fernando

I created a report with a parameter. The parameter was created using a dataset in the report designer. This works fine. I deployed the report (webhost4life) and the report runs fine in the report manager. I am able to select my casenumber click on the default view report button and it works.
Problem: I embedd the report into an aspx page frmReports1.aspx. I call this page from another page (form). the frmReports.aspx page comes up and displays the default drop down list box with the casenumbers (fine). I select the casenumber and click on the view report button and NOTHING. I here the postbacks taking place but all that happens is the default value appears in the drop down list box and the toolbar shows. I checked permissions and everything is fine. I searched the forum and thought i found the solution with the inLine HTML and Async (still nothing) I can only think that something is not going right with the parameter. Here is my html, and code behind code. any help would be greatly apprcieated.

Is it posible to display the reporting services home page in the ReportViewer control?
I can display any of the published reports by setting the path e.g.,
serverReport.ReportPath = "/My Folder/My Report"
Is there a way of using the same command to show the home page?
I have tried a combination of "", "/" and "/Home" but none of them seem to work.

Hi
I had a problem accessing our report manager via the web front...
We deleted the virtual directories in IIS and then recreated them... this required us to make a change in the rsWebApplication.config file to include the URL in the ReportServerUrl tag before we could access the site again.
Now we have access to the site but when we attempt to view a report that we deployed to it - the report fails to render and returns a rsReportNotReady error, even though the report doesnt use a snapshot.
Furthermore, the strange thing is that the filters for the report don't display in their own collapsable bar as they used to before... they just display on the white part of the page. Neither does the reportviewer toolbar display properly. It appears as labels and textboxes going down the page and not in a toolbar as you might expect...
any help is appreciated... we suspect that it is some kind of configuration issue, but we have no clue where to begin...

Hi,
I am using ReportViewer control for showing reports on my aspx page. I am able to show the report. But for the report both vertical and horizontal scrollbars are coming. when I viewed the report in Report Server website it is coming with out them and i can use the browser scrollbars to see the full report.
I came know the I have to set 2 properties (SizeToReportContent to True & AsynchRendering to False) of the reportviewer control to remove the scroll bars. But even after that the scroll bars are coming. The scroll bars are not coming only if i set ShowToolBar to False. But if i do that I can not see the "page navigation" and "export" etc. options.
Can somebody suggest any way to remove the horizontal and vertical scroll bars with out removing the toor bar of the ReportViewer control.
Thanks,
Srik

I've got a report that works great from vs.net, however when I deploy and attempt to run from reportviewer over asp.net, the date parameters do not take. they reset to default and don't impact that report. Also the calendar icon, produces a javascript error "OBJECT REQUIRED" on the below line.
function GetObjectPosition(obj)
{
var totalTop = 0;
var totalLeft = 0;
while (obj != document.body)
{
// Add up the position
totalTop += obj.offsetTop;
totalLeft += obj.offsetLeft; //ERROR HAPPENING HERE.
// Prepare for next iteration
obj = obj.offsetParent;
My reportviewer is inside a content page. My client is ie 7.0

Hi all,
I have a webpage with a Datagrid that populates using a table adapter from a Stored procedure that exists in my SQL Database...If I run the Stored procedure in SQL Directly then it takes 20 Secs to return all records...If I run the webpage then it takes just over 20 Secs..
Great you say..But If I have the sorting option set in ASP.net and I click on a column to sort then off the page goes for another 20 secs to sort the data..
Is there a better way to do what I am doing here that will speed up the page load..
Ie..the data is returned once and then sorted...
Is it Better / Quicker for me to create a table using the stored procedure and link to this from the website..Updating the table every couple of minutes ?
Any advice please ?
Ray..

I have developed a stored procedure that filters a view that is a union of several different tables. This provides status information for items across our warehouse management system. This system seems to work very well and normally processes results very quickly (< 3 seconds). However, occasionally (every few days) we begin to see timeouts on the query after 3 minutes of processing. I can watch this process in SQL Profiler and see that the query is timing out after 180 seconds, which is the timeout we have for the query within the DAL. When I copy the line from the SQL Profiler and execute it directly in SSMS, the query executes in less than 2 seconds. I first thought that somehow this had to do with execution plans, but when I try to reload the page again, which executes the query, it still times out. I did add a OPTION(KEEPFIXED PLAN) to the sproc, and that seemed to speed things up for the time, but I am not sure if this is even the problem and what the optimal solution would be. Any thoughts spring to mind?
Thanks, Steve

Hello -
I need to call a SQL Server stored procedure, which takes over five hours to run, from an asp.NET web page. This procedure then calls a DTS package which is what takes 5+ hours to run. I need the user to be able to click on the 'run' button and have the page kick off the stored procedure (or the DTS Package if that will work instead) and display a message saying the load has begun and to check a 'status' link.
Right now I get a page timeout because it's waiting for results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I have a stored procedure when query a big table about 500,000 records. When I run the stored procedure in the query analyzer, it is very fast and it only takes 2~3 seconds. However, when my aspx page try to call this stored-procedure with a Command's ExecuteReader method like bellow:
SqlDataReader myReader = myCommand.ExecuteReader();
I always get timeout expired exception. I try to set the connection timeout and command timeout to 100 seconds. The exception is gone but the average execution time is about 25 seconds! While the stored-procedure only takes about 2~3 seconds in query analyzer with the same parameter.
What could be the problem?? I tried to figure this out for a couple days but still no clue.
Thanks.

Hello,
I have a table which gets updated roughly every 6 seconds with data. I have setup an aspx page with a datagrid to meta tag refresh every 3 seconds.
Because the data sometimes stops for a couple of minutes or even hours, I was thinking of a way to update/refresh the aspx page only when the table data gets entered ( to stop page flickering every 3 seconds).
I was thinking about a stored procedure and using an on update procedure.
Does anyone have any preffered methods or suggestions on the best way to accomplish this task.
I use VB.Net

The procedure is as follow:
a hidden text box is put into the body of the page...which can be data bound..
than a textbox is placed in the footer, which is linked to the hidden text box in
the body. This is a good solution to this problem.. but the is 1 major problem I am

shows up only on the last page. I need it to be seen on all the pages..

Hi,
I have a report which contains several queries - one of which is a stored procedure which creates a Temp table in the database. This temp table is then used by the other queries. The temp table provides the lowest granularity of data, and the subsequent queries aggregate it at different levels in order to produce the report charts and matrix's.
The issue is that when I run the report, the stored procedure does not create the temp table before the other queries start using it. In fact, I need to run the report, and then refresh it in order to get the report to pull in the correct data (1st run populates the temp table, refresh then allows the queries to use it.).
Is there a way to force the execution of the stored procedure before the other queries run?...I don't want to create stored procedures for each query, because the intitial creation of the Temp table is quite slow (5seconds), and to do this for each data subset would be very resource intensive.
Thanks
Kevin.

I am facing a problem which is based on the restrictions on the domain of the customer. After deplyoing the report on the server we are getting the following error message in the report manager after executing (clicking) a report link:
Logon failed.
Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070569)
I googled for that and it seems to be an authentication issue where some user / account is not granted to log on as service / locally, but the problems is better described than the solutions. Did anyone faced that problem so far ? Which account has to be granted what priviledges or permissions in Windows. We are using a SQL Server 2005 / Reporting Services 2005 running on the same machine whereas the virtual directories Reports and Reportserver are running in a separate Application Pool

Hi !
I have a problem with the unique identifier and don't know how to solve it.
I have a stored procedure, called from my ASP.NET page, which inserts a new record into a table. I need to get the Id of the row just inserted in order to use it as a parameter of another stored procedure which inserts a new row with this value and other values.
I tried with SCOPE_IDENTITY but i don't know how to ask for this value to the first stored procedure and stored it into an ASP variable.
Dim cmd As New SqlCommand
cmd.CommandText = "Insertar_Contacto"
cmd.CommandType = CommandType.StoredProcedure
cmd.Connection = connect
Thanks!!
