Hi I am developing a project in asp.net. And i need to store html content in sql server. Will anybody tell me which datatype should be used for storing html tags in sql server.
for example i want to store <a href="abc.asp">abc.asp</a> in database. and when I retrive it back from database it should be real html tag and not string. Thanks

hi, i would like to store just the time part in sqlserver 2000. time part with default date which is 1899 - 12- 30 in my sql server. but i read some articles which mentioned default date as 1900 - 01 - 01. i am not sure which one but if i enter just the time part in my sql server and do the query i get 1899 -12-30 and (time part). anyway, i am just wondering whether it is possible to set the trigger or constraints to strip off the date part of entered value and replacing it with default is ok.
the reason is i need to some queries on time part only which is giving some problem now.
Hello,I'm looking for a tutorial or some sample code to save a file in sql server with c#. So far I have not been able to find a anything I could use as most tutorials are in VB. I'm using the varbinary max type to store the file. The part I need help with is selecting the file and converting it using the Stream object, not the SQL insert statements. Thanks,Arnold

I am building a small app that will display availability data for properties. I have a calendar that displays the dates for a whole year in month rows with each days colour representing the availability status, i.e. booked, on hold etc. My question is about how to store these dates in the db. At the moment I have the table below: TABLE Availability [PropertyID] [int] NOT NULL , [StatusID] [tinyint] NOT NULL , [StartDate] [smalldatetime] NOT NULL , [EndDate] [smalldatetime] NOT NULL I was planning on having four status's for any given date, unknown, available, on hold or booked. Displaying the dates has proved pretty simple but updating availability means I would need to query the db to see if any of the dates overlapped, I would then have to add the new date range/status as well as change any date ranges that overlapped, either in the sp or in the code and this is what made me wonder if there was a better way. Does this sound a reasonable approach? Any advice or pointers would be greatly appreciated, This is the first time I have had to store date ranges and I want to make sure I am doing it right.
Where can i change the date stored internally to SQL Server. It is this value which is displayed when we execute getdate() function. But, Changing the system date doesn't change the result of getdate() function. I want to get a different value for getdate(). Is it possible ?

Because for one, i am currenlty developing my thesis which uploads a blob.doc file to a web server (currently i'm using the localhost of ASP.NET) then retrieves it from the local hostAlso i want to know if im right at this, the localhost of ASP.NET is the same as the one of a natural web server on the net? Because i'm just thinking of uploading and downloading the files from a web server. Although our thesis defense didn't require us to really upload it on the net, we were advised to use a localhost on our PC's. I'll be just using my local server Is it ok to just use a web server for storing files than a database?

We are trying to move our application from SQL2005 to SQL2005, we are using 2005 jdbc driver 1.1.
The problem we have is, when a date is retrieved from the database, only the year part got correctly, but the date is automatically set to January 1 of that year. The interesting thing is this problem doesn't occur on local development environment (developer's windows platform), it only happens when we deploy the application to production server (unix).
Anyone please suggest me that , I have a text box where I am entering th date in dd/MM/yyyy format. But the default field in my SqlServer2005 is MM/dd/yyyy. How can i insert it into the database. or how can i change the MM/dd/yyyy of database to dd/MM/yyyy

We have a static class that makes an HTTPWebRequest to get XML data from one of our vendors. We use this as input to a stored proc in SQLServer2005. When I compile this class and call it from a console application in visual studio it executes in milliseconds, everytime. When I compile it, create the assembly and clr function and execute it in SQLServer, it takes around 14 seconds to execute the first time, then on subsequent requests it is again really fast, until I wait for 10 seconds and re-execute, once again it is slow the first time and then fast on subsequent requests. We do not see this behavior when executing outside SQLServer. Makes me think that some sort of authentication is perhaps taking place the first time the function is run in SQLServer? I have no idea how to debug this further. Anyone seen this before or have any ideas?

When I execute the function as above, again, really slow the first time, then fast on subsequent calls. Could there be something wrong with the code, or some headers that need to be set differently to operate from the CLR in SQLServer?
I am trying to 'load' a copy of a SQLServer 2000 database to SQLServer 2005 Express (on another host). The copy was provided by someone else - it came to me as a MDF file only, no LDF file.
I have tried to Attach the database and it fails with a failure to load the LDF. Is there any way to bypass this issue without the LDF or do I have to have that?
The provider of the database says I can create a new database and just point to the MDF as the data source but I can't seem to find a way to do that? I am using SQL Server Management Studio Express.

I have an app that uses a sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to connect to a sqlserver 2000.
Is it possible to do a direct replacement of sqlserver 2000 with sqlserver 2005 express just by reconfiguring the app to point to the express? The app would still be using the sqlserver 2000 jdbc driver to try and make the connection.
If that is a possibility, what can be some differences in the configuration? Previously with 2000 the config information I entered is:
server name: "machinename"( or ip). I've also tried "machiname/SQLEXPRESS"
DB name: name of db instance
port: 1433(default)
user and pass.

I am in the process of planning a server upgrade to sql2005 x64.
I created 2 linked servers: one to a SQL2000 sp4 server and one to a SQL7.0 SP3.
I have the following error when I query the linked servers. OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "Unspecified error". OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K" returned message "The stored procedure required to complete this operation could not be found on the server. Please contact your system administrator.". Msg 7311, Level 16, State 2, Line 1 Cannot obtain the schema rowset "DBSCHEMA_TABLES_INFO" for OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "IVDM2K". The provider supports the interface, but returns a failure code when it is used.

I applied the instcat.sql on the SQL2000SP4 server and my linked server issues for that one are gone.
However, I ran the instcat.sql script on the SQL7.0 sp3 server and the linked server is still giving me an issue.
Hi, I am new to SQL Server 2005. I tried connecting to my local machine by using my machine name as Server name and then tried running the following query: SELECT * FROM SYS.Objects. It gives me following error: Invalid object name 'sys.objects'.
Whereas, if I connect to my local machine using mahcinenameSQLEXPRESS, then the above mentioned query runs fine.
Why is this difference? What is the difference when I login in these 2 different ways. Any help would be appreciated.

Is there a way to transfer data from a SqlServer db to a SqlServer Express db. I tried to use the backup file of SqlServer, but this file is not valid for SqlServer Express. Or there any alternatives?
I need to store a user ID of whoever made the last change to a record in a table. I have added a field with a default set to 'suser_sid()'.
Is it wise to store SID's in a database table if you are using NT authentication? My concerns are that if the user is deleted by the NT system administrator then I lose data integrety also if the database is backed up and restored onto a different machine with different users it won't work at all.
