Storing Statistical Information

Jan 16, 2007

Hi everyone,

I am storing statistics for different affiliate and merchant sites, and I have a few questions about how to store it.
My first idea was to create a serializable array and store it in a statistics column with the rest of the site information.  I could even have two columns, one being an archive, and one being the current month.  I know these arrays would get quite large, but they would only be retrieved when someone was looking at the statistics.  Is this a viable way to do it?

The other idea I had was to create tables for each site and ad and store the statistics as rows in each objects respective table.  While easy, I didn't know if it was a bad idea to have a very large amount of tables, ie., one for every advertisement and site signed up for the affiliate program.

Thanks for all your expertise in advance and I look forward to contributing to this great community.

SQL/ASP.net Storing Hours Information?

Mar 26, 2008

MS SQLJust to confirm, I need to store the number of hours a user has spent doing something, am I correct using the smalldatetime field for the MS SQL database?I will eventually need to be able to calculate totals using SQL Reporting Services so it's important that the hours add up correctly (to 60 minutes, not 100).ASP.NETI'm trying to find the correct sort of formatting to use? Short time stores the time as 9:50AM, which isn't what i'm after.I need to store the hours as in 1 hour, or 01:00:00 (1 hour, 0 minutes, 0 seconds) or just 01:00 for 1 hour. I do need minutes but seconds are not required.I can't find the right formatting for this, would Long time be more suited?

Storing Locale And Culture-information

Dec 9, 2006

Hi, I'm creating a web application with membership and such. And I have some problem figuring out how to store locale and culture data. My application needs to know the following three things for every user: country (or region), prefered language and their timezone. Now, the country and language can easily be stored as a CultureInfo string (such as "en-US" or "sv-SE"). However, i'm probably going to need two columns in my database if say a person lives in the US (and therefore applies to US registration fees, etc) but want the site displayed in swedish (my app implements global resources). So i guess (if no one objects to the above) my question is how do I store the timezone-data? There is ofcourse a System.Timezone class, but I'm not sure how to implement it. I obviously want my site to display the correct local time (all datetimes are stored as universaltime though). Is there a "universal" timezone-standard? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. /David N.

Best Way To Log Statistical Info

Apr 12, 2007

I want to keep track of some application statistics.

-How many applications per day, month, year
-How many apps for a specific type of widget
-etc.

Is this best accomplished by a script that review the data or by using counters that are updated with every app?

Can someone give me some info on how to get started with this? I did a search, but only found a thread that recommends an article that costs $100.

A Conceptual Question - Regarding Using Statistical Functions

May 11, 2004

Hi,

I want to use functions like Standard Deviation, Variance, and other forms of these (StdDevp, Varp) but am not clear about what these really do. All I know is that if I am clear about these functions, I can really put these to good use. BTW, maybe there are many more functions in addition to the one's that I have listed??

Can you kindly assist me with a mini example in understanding what these functions do?

Suppose I have the Total and Average of orders. How can these functions be put to use? Kindly help me out if you can come up with a better example.

I'll be grateful for your help.

Many TIA.

Statistical Tools For Data Mining

Jan 9, 2007

Hi,

I might be asking one of the most weird and most irrelevant question... but actually I am very new to this technology, and need help!

If I am asked about 'Statistical Tools For Data Mining', then in which way do I go?

Is it related to the various methods like Neural Network, K-Nearest Neighbour (KNN), etc. or is it related to something else?

(A few statistical tool examples would be highly appreciated!)

Thanx a lot for you time and advice!

Best Wishes.

Analysis :: Statistical Function Results In Calculated Members

Jul 8, 2015

I'm working with the statistical functions Stdev and Median with calculated members.  The only way I can get the "correct" answer is if I have a dimension at the same granularity as the Fact table (Actually it's a degenerate dimension of the FACT table itself).  Otherwise it seems that the measure I'm using with Stdev returns results that are so wildly high, I think it must be acting on the SUM of the measure; because the measure itself is a Summed one. When I try to use the coordinates in the Stdev function, it seems like it is using the wrong set of data points :

stdev( ( [Date].[Date].[Date].members, [Parameter].[Parameter].[Parameter].members ), [Measures].[Value])  returns answers in the thousands when it should be more like 2.5

When used with a query, there would only be a single date member and a specific parameter member.  The total number of fact records is between 200 and 500 with values that range between 0 and 150.  This is the version that gives me answers that resemble the total sum of the [Measures].[Value].

If I add the dimension that is essentially a row number from the fact table, it gives the right answer (slowly, but that will be a different post ....

stdev( ( [Date].[Date].[Date].members, [Parameter].[Parameter].[Parameter].members, [FACTTable].[FACTTable].[KeyField].members ), [Measures].[Value])

Which Is Better? Storing Data In The Database OR Storing It In The File System

Dec 29, 2006

Hello there,I just want to ask if storing data in dbase is much better than storing it in the file system? Because for one, i am currenlty developing my thesis which uploads a blob.doc file to a web server (currently i'm using the localhost of ASP.NET) then retrieves it from the local hostAlso i want to know if im right at this, the localhost of ASP.NET is the same as the one of a natural web server on the net? Because i'm just thinking of uploading and downloading the files from a web server. Although our thesis defense didn't require us to really upload it on the net, we were advised to use a localhost on our PC's. I'll be just using my local server Is it ok to just use a web server for storing files than a database?

SQL Server 2014 :: Reverse Recursion For Some Specific Statistical Calculation

Oct 2, 2014

I have a table :

id + A + B
1 |0,11| 0
2 |0,45| 0,5
3 |0,85| 0,75

I need to calculate the following :

F = 0,85 * ( 1 - 0,75 * ( 1 - 0,45 * ( 1 - 0,5 * ( 1 - 0,11 * ( 1 - 0 )))))
In which F = A3 * ( 1 - B3 * ( 1 - A2 * ( 1 - B2 * ( 1 - A1 * ( 1 - B1 )))))

It seemed quite easy at first glance. I Built it up via string concatenation and thought to execute the dynamic sql with sp_exec and get the result. As I don't like dynamic sql I was wondering If there is any other way..

ALTER PROC [dbo].[Tools_Serial_FE]
AS
BEGIN

DECLARE @IP FLOAT,
@IF FLOAT,
@FE FLOAT,

SecurityException Class SQLServerDatabaseMetaData's Signer Information Does Not Match Signer Information Of Other

May 23, 2007

Hello,

I have some troubles with IBM WebSphere Application Server using MS SQL Server 2005 JDBC Driver. I always get the error e.g.
java.lang.SecurityException: class "com.microsoft.sqlserver.jdbc.SQLServerDatabaseMetaData"'s signer information does not match signer information of other classes in the same package

I found this Feedback but it seems to be closed.

A temporary solution for me was to delete the meta-inf directory of the JAR-File, but that can't be the solution.

Can anyone help me with this problem?

Storing SID's In SQL 7.0

Dec 16, 1999

I need to store a user ID of whoever made the last change to a record in a table. I have added a field with a default set to 'suser_sid()'.

Is it wise to store SID's in a database table if you are using NT authentication? My concerns are that if the user is deleted by the NT system administrator then I lose data integrety also if the database is backed up and restored onto a different machine with different users it won't work at all.

I'd be grateful for any help with this.

Storing Images

Jan 24, 2007

Hi, can someone help me with this problem. I have recently downloaded VWD and have been playing around with it a bit. I was windering how do I add an image file to a SQL database. I have used SQL in the past but I have never store an image in it. I can add text data and so forth, but I need some pointers into adding images to the sql database. I want to be able to store the images and then retrieve them to a GridView. I have the images in an image folder within the website, but I do not know how to input the reference or link to the images in an sql table.
A quick example, say I have a table called Images, with the following info:imgID (int)imgDesc (varchar(max)imgFile (img)imgTitle (varchar(20))
To input this in sql I would write Insert Into Images (imgDesc, imgFile, imgTitle) Values ("Large fishy", "", "The Big Fish") what would I need to put for imgFile?
I would really appreciate if someone can point me in the right direction.

SQL Server Storing As

Oct 20, 2004

My forms are taking user input, then HtmlEncoding them prior to being stored in the SQL DB. For some reason, SQL is storing quotes as and it is causing the HTML when decoded in the page to not be rendered properly.

Has anyone come across this issue before?

For example (without encoding for readability):

SQL should store the parsed string as: <a href="someurl" class="main">

but for some reason it's being stored as: <a href=someurl class=main>.

Thoughts?

Storing XML In Database

best way to store questionnaire data in a database.Since different questionnairs have different questions and formats i.e dropdown, radio, checkboxes etc building such a database model becomes highly complex.

I've read that if data schema is complex and higly variable it may be better to use an xml document and store that in a databse. However I dont quite understand how you store xml to a database. Do you simply store the entire structure in something like a nvarchar column or is there some other way to store xml to a database.

If you store the entire structure to the databse then how do you query the content to generate reports.

example xml:

Code:

<question id="1" type="singlechoice" page="1">

Storing Hours

Mar 17, 2004

I use SQL 2K with an Access 2000 project as front end. I have four date fields in a table. The first one should contain a date (eg 20th of February), the second one a starting hour (eg 8:00h), the third one the finishing hour (eg 10:00h) and the fourth should calculate the difference between the second and third column.
So I created four datetime fields. Storing a date in the first column is no problem, but storing only hours doesn't seem to do what I want. When I enter 8:00 from within the Access, it is stored 1/1/1900 8:00 in SQL Server. How can I make sure that the hours are saved with the date of the second column, so either as 8:00 without further information or as eg 20-2-2004 8:00?
