Strip Off Hour, Minute, Second From A Datetime?

Jan 18, 2005

I would like something I can do inline eg:

select convert(blahdatatype,a.datefield) as smallerdatefield
from
a

where a.datefield is a datetime. If a contains rows like:

datefield
---------------------
01/20/2005 22:17:23
08/23/2001 03:04:15
...

Then the SQL above returns:

smallerdatefield
---------------------
01/20/2005 00:00:00
08/23/2001 00:00:00
...

Is there any non-obnoxious way (eg: without have to result to using datepart a million times) to do this? For instance, Oracle provides a function called Trunc which does it, but I cannot find an SQL Server equivalent. Anyone? TIA!!!

Transact SQL :: Use Date / Hour And Minute In Datetime Column Type?

Nov 9, 2015

I just need the date, hour, and minute...not the micro seconds. Do I have to DATEPART and concatenate each or is there any way to simply truncate the milliseconds from it? Or is there a date format to put extract and report on it as...

MM/DD/CCYY HH:MM:SS AM

I see there is a format 131 that puts it in..

DD/MM/YYYY HH:MM:SS:MMMAM

How To AVG Values For One Hour Of Five-minute Increments?

Feb 18, 2008

Hello all,

I have the following very simple SQL Query:

SELECT TOP (100) AutoNumber, Date, ZNT, SAT, RAT, RH
FROM HV_Values
ORDER BY Date ASC

This shows the top 100 entries for a table (where there is a date entry every 5 minutes). Here's five sample records:

1 12/4/2006 4:12:11 PM 67.13 70.50 71.56 8.23
2 12/4/2006 4:17:11 PM 67.13 70.50 71.56 8.33
3 12/4/2006 4:22:11 PM 67.19 70.69 71.69 8.19
4 12/4/2006 4:27:11 PM 67.19 70.63 71.69 8.18
5 12/4/2006 4:32:11 PM 67.19 70.69 71.75 8.05

What I'd like to do with the sample query above is take an AVG for one hour for the values ZNT, SAT, RAT, RH...like I stated the records are every five minutes in the table, I'd like to create 60 minute AVGs.

Any ideas or sample queries I can work with?

Thank you very much! gad1

Transact SQL :: Only Store Datetime Values Down To Nearest Minute Automatically Without Using Trigger

Sep 25, 2015

Is there a way that I can do this at the table level to automatically handle the rounding of seconds, etc. down to the minute automatically without having to use a trigger?

Here is a very basic example of what I am trying to do:

--example:  '09-22-2007 15:07:18.850' this is the value inserted into the table by the code
select getdate()

--example: '2007-09-22 15:07:00.000'  this is the value I want to store in the table
select dateadd(mi, datediff(mi, 0, getdate()), 0)

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Substitute Hour Part Of Datetime Field?

Apr 27, 2015

I have a table with a datetime field (named "lnDateDone") and an integer field (named "PlannedHour"). I want to build a new datetime field with the same value as lnDateDone and replacing the hour part by the PlannedHour field. Example:

lnDateDone = '2014-04-09 13:22:31.544'
HourPlanned = 14
new datetime field = '2014-04-09 14:00:00'

I tried the following:

CAST(SUBSTRING(CAST(lnDateDone AS VARCHAR(25)),1,12) + CAST(PlannedHour AS VARCHAR(2)) + SUBSTRING(CAST(lnDateDone AS VARCHAR(25)), 15, LEN(lnDateHeureFin)) AS SMALLDATETIME) AS DatePrevue

but it won't work when casted in DateTime format, only in varchar, but I want it in datetime as I need to do compute some values using date manipulation functions.

How can I do that?

Counting Popularity, Hour By Hour

Nov 14, 2001

I have a table that is recording hits to a website. Everytime someone views a page, the datetime of the hit is recorded in a field called hit_date_time. I would like to be able to come up with a query that will show how many hits occured on a given day or given days, broken down by hour.

The resulting table for two days would look something like:
Time Hits
1/1/01 12:00 1
1/1/01 1:00 23
1/1/01 2:00 54
1/2/01 1:00 15
1/2/01 2:00 14

I can't seem to figure out how to write the query so that I can take into consideration the date and hour of the event so that I can count it.

Thanks,

Eron

Strip Certain Characters

Jul 13, 2004

Can anyone tell me how I can strip certain chahrcters from a string

I know I can use replace, but i don't think this is appropriate for what I want to do

For example I have the string

declare @text varchar (100)
select @text = 'word1, word2 & word3'

if i do a replace on the string like this
select @text = 'replace(@text, ',', '')
select @text = 'replace(@text, '&', '')

I end up with the string
select @text = 'word1 word2 word3'

i.e. 2 spaces between word2 and word3

What i want the string to look like is :
select @text = 'word1 word2 word3'

Is there a way i can check for more than one space + characters ( / , &) in one go

many thanks

Strip String From Csv Column

Mar 26, 2004

I have a column of 5 comma-separated-value strings:

stringA, stringB, stringC, stringD, stringE

The strings are GUID's with the hyphen stripped and made all uppercase so they are completely random. I need to be able to remove any one of the strings including the comma, in a stored procedure and I am not sure how to accomplish this.

SELECT tickets
FROM users
WHERE CONTAINS (tickets, @ticket)

IF @@rowcount > 0
REMOVE STUFF HERE
SET @valid = 1
ELSE
SET @valid = 0

So if stringB gets passed in as @ticket then the new value in the column would be :

stringA, stringC, stringD, stringE

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

Apparently InStr is not a recognized function in SQL Server 2000. Or is it available but not in a view?

Need To Strip Non-numerics From Phone Field

Jul 22, 2004

I tried searching forums for the last hour and could not find much.

Rather then doing...

REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(REPLACE(RE PLACE(ISNULL(PHONE, ''), ' ', ''), '(', ''), ')', ''), '-', ''), '.', ''), ':', ''), '+', '')

I was hoping there was an equally efficient alternative that utilizes PATINDEX('%[^0-9]%', PHONE)

to some capacity (i.e. uses regular expressions to strip all non-numeric characters from the phone field)

I am certain this has been addressed before, just not sure if the "REPLACE to the nth degree" is the only solution.

THANKS!

Strip Time Out Of A Date Field - Sql

Dec 3, 2004

Hi all,

I have a table that I've imported into SQL - there is a field in there for date that must have used now(); as its default value (access).

So the values are something like:

01/11/2004 12:16:42

I need a way to change the data so that the time element removed is the field just holds the date. Failing that a way to insert this from the existing field into a new field stripping the date off en route would be a great help.

Many thanks

Strip Out The From Alphabetized Search Results?

Jan 16, 2006

I am not aware of this if it exists in MS SQL server. But I need to return results in alphabetic order ignoring "The" if it's the first word of a title...

so for example title "The Cliffhanger" would be returned along with other titles that start with letter C, but "The" also must be returned as part of the title, but just ignored while alphabetizing.

I'm sure that I'm not the first one to ever need this and don't want to re-invent the wheel, so if you have any ideas as to the best way to accomplish this, help me out.

Thanks in advance.
