Sub Query Message

Jul 20, 2005

Hi all,
I have a query as follows:

update stage.FinanceVehicleSummary
set vin = (select VIN from stage.ChasisLookup where
stage.chasislookup.chasis = stage.FinanceVehicleSummary.ChasisNo
and stage.chasislookup.sr_registration_number =
stage.FinanceVehicleSummary.srregno)

and i get this message: Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not
permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the
subquery is used as an expression.
The statement has been terminated.

and I have no idea what could be causing this or how to resolve it?
Many thanks
Sam

Odd Query Message

Jul 6, 2006

Getting a trouble call for yet another program someone else did...

A DTS package runs every time a Coldfusion page is called. The call is now making IE crawl to a halt and creating an unending memory leak. I'm told that calling a DTS package from a page itself is a bad idea, and I'm not one to disagree, but the main problem here seems to be that the number of rows being returned is far greater than what it should be (a few thousand should be returned at most, I'm getting over 130,000 records).

Looking at the data that's being compared (corporate vs. local) it appears that the problem stems from the local data having an extra 0 on the front of numbers in one column. This means that the IDs created from the various columns won't match up. (I should note that all columns discussed here are of type varchar.) Here's the part of the DTS package giving me trouble:

sql Code:

Original
- sql Code

SELECT
LTRIM(RTRIM(REG_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(COY_NA)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(DIS_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(PKG_CTR_NR)) +
LTRIM(RTRIM(BDG_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(PSL_CD)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(CTY_NA)) +

HAVING COUNT(*) = 1
ORDER BY PSL_CD

SELECT      LTRIM(RTRIM(REG_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(COY_NA)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(DIS_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(PKG_CTR_NR)) +         LTRIM(RTRIM(BDG_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(PSL_CD)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(CTY_NA)) +         LTRIM(RTRIM(IN_BDG_LOC_NR)) + LTRIM(RTRIM(PFR_CTY_NA)) AS ID,     MIN(TABLE1) AS Version,       REG_NR, DIS_NR, PKG_CTR_NR, BDG_NR, CTY_NA, COY_NA, PSL_CD, ST_CD, ST_NA, CNY_CD, PFR_CTY_NA, IN_BDG_LOC_NR FROM(  SELECT 'Corporate' AS TABLE1,      A.REG_NR, A.DIS_NR, A.PKG_CTR_NR, A.BDG_NR, A.CTY_NA, A.COY_NA,     A.PSL_CD, A.ST_CD, A.ST_NA, A.CNY_CD, A.PFR_CTY_NA, A.IN_BDG_LOC_NR  FROM TABLE1 A  UNION ALL  SELECT 'LOCAL' AS TABLE2,     B.REG_NR, B.DIS_NR, B.PKG_CTR_NR, B.BDG_NR, B.CTY_NA, B.COY_NA,     B.PSL_CD, B.ST_CD, B.ST_NA, B.CNY_CD, B.PFR_CTY_NA, B.IN_BDG_LOC_NR  FROM TABLE2 B) tmpGROUP BY     REG_NR, DIS_NR, PKG_CTR_NR, BDG_NR, CTY_NA, COY_NA, PSL_CD, ST_CD, ST_NA, CNY_CD, PFR_CTY_NA, IN_BDG_LOC_NRHAVING COUNT(*) = 1ORDER BY PSL_CD

Since it was just one extra 0 (in the local table), I thought I could add a 0 to the beginning of the string in the first table:

sql Code:

Original
- sql Code

SELECT 'Corporate' as TABLE1,

A.REG_NR, A.DIS_NR, A.PKG_CTR_NR, '0'+A.BDG_NR, A.CTY_NA, A.COY_NA,
A.PSL_CD, A.ST_CD, A.ST_NA, A.CNY_CD, A.PFR_CTY_NA, A.IN_BDG_LOC_NR
FROM TABLE1 A

  SELECT 'Corporate' AS TABLE1,      A.REG_NR, A.DIS_NR, A.PKG_CTR_NR, '0'+A.BDG_NR, A.CTY_NA, A.COY_NA,     A.PSL_CD, A.ST_CD, A.ST_NA, A.CNY_CD, A.PFR_CTY_NA, A.IN_BDG_LOC_NR  FROM TABLE1 A

However, this keeps giving me the error 'no column specified for column 5 of tmp'. Unsure how to fix that, I try to instead trim the local database to four numbers:

sql Code:

Original
- sql Code

SELECT 'LOCAL' as TABLE2,

B.REG_NR, B.DIS_NR, B.PKG_CTR_NR, RIGHT(B.BDG_NR,4), B.CTY_NA, B.COY_NA,
B.PSL_CD, B.ST_CD, B.ST_NA, B.CNY_CD, B.PFR_CTY_NA, B.IN_BDG_LOC_NR
FROM TABLE2 B

  SELECT 'LOCAL' AS TABLE2,     B.REG_NR, B.DIS_NR, B.PKG_CTR_NR, RIGHT(B.BDG_NR,4), B.CTY_NA, B.COY_NA,     B.PSL_CD, B.ST_CD, B.ST_NA, B.CNY_CD, B.PFR_CTY_NA, B.IN_BDG_LOC_NR  FROM TABLE2 B

This works, and I am only getting about 10,000 rows (perhaps not quite right, but better than before). The two columns now line up. However, this has an unintended (and really crazy) sideffect: The IN_BDG_LOC_NR column (and thus part of the ID) is now completely empty for the corporate data, and 00 for the local data (both were originally a two digit number that was not 00).

I have absolutely no idea what is causing this, and google isn't helping. Is there a way to make the first idea I had work? If so, I'd prefer to use that. If not, I would appreciate thoughts on making the second idea work.

I Am Getting An Error Message For This Query

Dec 13, 2007

SELECT T1.lnumber AS LOT_Number,(T2.time_out - T1.time_in) AS Duration,
((DATEPART (hour, (T2.time_out-T1.time_in)) *60) + DATEPART (minute, (T2.time_out-T1.time_in))) AS Minutes, COUNT(DISTINCT T2.test_desc) AS Number_of_Process

FROM Results AS T1 JOIN Results AS T2 ON T1.lnumber = T2.lnumber

WHERE T2.test_desc = 'Shipping' AND T1.test_desc = 'Receiving'

I have an error message that says:

Msg 8120, Level 16, State 1, Line 3
Column 'Results.lnumber' is invalid in the select list because it is not contained in either an aggregate function or the GROUP BY clause.

If I take this line out: COUNT(DISTINCT T2.test_desc) AS Number_of_Process
The query runs ok.

Also if I run [COUNT(DISTINCT T2.test_desc) AS Number_of_Process] in:

SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT T2.test_desc) AS Number_of_Process, T2.lnumber AS Lot_number
FROM Results AS T1 JOIN Results AS T2 ON T1.lnumber = T2.lnumber
GROUP BY T2.lnumber

It will also give me result.
Please help....
Thanks for your time

Odd Error Message In Microsoft Query

May 9, 2007

I am using an online ODBC Database.

The fun thing is that I'm running into a circumstance where one SQL statement that works in Visual Studio accessing the same database works, but then I try to use the same statement in Microsoft Query (running to Excel) and it refuses to admit its a valid statement.

The SQL statement I'm using is this.

SELECT MLNumber, StreetNumber, StreetName, StreetDirection, ListingOfficeMLSID, Status, Bedrooms, Bathrooms, City
FROM "data: Property:RESI"
WHERE (ListingOfficeMLSID = '550000020' OR
ListingOfficeMLSID = '550001760') AND (MLNumber > 1) AND (City = "Boiling Spring Lakes")

This works fine inside of VS 2005.

The same statement used within Microsoft Query returns this error message.

SQL SYNTAX ERROR - Unexpected char: '?'

Working with the people that work with that database regularly, they say that I need to write a METADATA-LOOKUPTYPE call that should tell me how the City name 'Boiling Spring Lakes' is actually formatted.

I, of course, have no clue how to do that. But my thought is, if it works in VS2005 and returns a valid result, why does the same SQL statement return an error message through Excel?

HELP!

Thanks in advance for your time.

Error Message: Data Mining Query Builder Cannot....

Mar 12, 2007

Hello,

I wrote a data mining plug-in algorithm in SSAS and now I am trying to view the lift chart in Management Studio. The studio gives the following error:

"The Data Mining Query builder control cannot be initialized due to the following problem:
Deserialization failed: Multiple definition of element 'Column12' causes the content model to become ambigious. A content model must be formed such that during validation of an element information item sequence, the particle contained directly, indirectly or implicitly therein with which to attempt to validate each item in the sequence in turn can be uniquely determined without examining the content or attributes of that item, and without any information about the items in the remainder of the sequence."

I really do not understand what i did wrong. Can anybody help me?

Thanks, Joris

Excel Data Mining Add-In Query Wizard Error Message

May 1, 2007

Hello Experts,

I have an error message I was wondering if anyone else has seen and resolved. When I open excel and click on the query wizard on the Data Mining Ribbon, I get an error message that says "Input String not in Correct Format"

After I close this dialog box the 'Welcome to Query .... ' wizard will open, but when I select the Advance button my process aborts due to the input string error.

I have only ran association models on the computer.

The Manage Models and Browse buttons work fine.

The error came up on Friday, but it wasn't there on Thursday. There were no changes done to the machine (no installation of new software).

I have tried reinstalling the add-in.

Thank you all for your help,

Davy

I have pasted the SQL syntax below that I get from the error dialog box after the query wizard closes.

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

Transact SQL :: Linked Server Return Message Query Timeout

Jul 22, 2015

Error below was returned from an agent job:

OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI11" for linked server returned message "Query timeout expired". [SQLSTATE 01000]

A linked Server was set up against a remote database to backup a database and it runs perfectly well when executed directly against the remote server but returns the above error when set up through Sql Server Agent. Permissions are good as the step returns success. I reset the query timeout property to zero but error persist. What else should I be looking at to make this work?

Query Timeout Expired.... Message 7412. How To Catch This Error??

Oct 26, 2007

Hi All,

I have the same question and error that Chopaka is getting:

"I have a SQL 2005 job that calls a stored proc. The job step returns the message "Query timeout expired....Message 7412...The step succeeded." The proc never actually ever did anything due to the query timeout, and the job continued on to other steps. I'm going to address the timeout issue eventually, but first I'd like to trap the timeout problem and force the job to end.

It appears that the query timeout isn't really an error, just a message. I've tried TRY-CATCH in the SP but the situation isn't caught, again probably due to the interpretation that it isn't an error."

I have reduced the "Remote Query time out" to 1 sec, in order to catch the error and to prevent the job from running, but the error is not caught.

Is there a way to catch this in the SQL or in the job step to prevent the job from continuing?

This is the script that I'm using without any luck
BEGIN TRY
BEGIN Transaction
Create table #tmpSummaryTable
(
)
insert into #tmpSummaryTable
select * from CDRServer01.iXtemp.dbo.gx_tbFTRSummary_test

COMMIT Transaction
END TRY

BEGIN CATCH
DECLARE @err int
SELECT @err = @@error
PRINT '@@error: ' + ltrim(str(@err))

SELECT ERROR_NUMBER() ERNumber,

ERROR_MESSAGE() Error_Message
ROLLBACK
Return

END CATCH

Log backed up: Database: HSD, creation date(time): 2007/01/06(05:05:05), first LSN: 1439:495055:1, last LSN: 1439:496675:1, number of dump devices: 1, device information: (FILE=1, TYPE=DISK: {'D:MSSQLBACKUPHSDHSD_tlog_200707141300.TRN'})."

When I save the application event viewer and open it in another server, I do not see the above message, instead I get the following message:

" Can't find or load message DLL. Message DLL must be in path or in current directory."

Any thoughts to overcome this problem is appreciated.

Thanks

Santhosh

This Message Could Not Be Delivered Because Its Message Timestamp Has Expired Or Is Invalid

Aug 8, 2007

I run SB between 2 SQL servers. In profiler on an initiator side I see next error: 'This message could not be delivered because its message timestamp has expired or is invalid'. For the conversation we use best practice, i.e. target closes a conversation. Target side succeed to close conversation, but initiator still stay in DO (disconnect_outbound).
What is a reasone for the error? What to do?

Message Type And Message Body..............

Nov 17, 2006

Hello,

I am having trouble specifying a message body that is valid. I mean for the client to send. If I leave it as null then everything is ok but if I create a memorystream and add a line of text it reports back it did not pass validation. I do not understand this and am not sure what to do. I need to send a message based on a code and text but do not know the format of the body that is allowed. The code I am refering to comes out of HelloWord_CLR because that is what I am formating my sample after. I call it the same way it calls the return message done in ServiceProc. I need to know the message format including body since this does not seem to work. A sample of the call is bellow.

// Create an empty request message

string Msg = "Hello";

MemoryStream body = new MemoryStream(Encoding.ASCII.GetBytes(Msg));

Message request = new Message("Request", body);

Thanks,

Scott Allison...

Message Box

Aug 21, 2007

Hi

I have basic knowledge of SQL Server and Expert in MS Access

Know I want to change my Access Database into Database.
Now what i required is when I create any Procedure
then we use a condition helping keyword 'Where'

No what I required is when I execute any procedure using where clause It must open a Input Box where I put a condition

For Example
when I create a procedure like this

create Procedure prc_Demo
(
a int,
as
Select * from employee where emp_id = 'a'
)

Something like that So I want when I execute this then there must be open a box where I type emp_id then it show matching the result

How can it is possible

Thanks

Message In SQL Log

Jan 15, 2008

Has anyone encounterd this message in the sql log:
-----
BACKUP LOG WITH TRUNCATE_ONLY or WITH NO_LOG is deprecated. The simple recovery model should be used to automatically truncate the transaction log.
-----
DB's are in simple recovery mode and only a daily backup is being done on DB's. It almost seems that SQL is doing something internally.

Where Does This Message Come From And Why?

Feb 20, 2007

We are running transactional replication on sqlserver 2000 and I see the following message: "The initial snapshot for article reason_type is not yet available" Followed 10 minutes later by a "timeout expired" event (we see lots of these). I see no reason for a snapshot to even be running at 3:04 AM but then, it apparently was so what can I say. The Snapshot agent history does not show any entries for the last year so that is a bit of a mystery. The table in question seems identical at both the publisher and subscriber (including content).

Any ideas why this message would appear? It appears that a snapshot for this article was somehow involved but I thought a snapshot was only created by specific request.

Thanks.

Error Message

Feb 29, 2008

Hi,I am trying to write some C# ASP.NET 2.0 code. I have created a web form to send data to my sql server 2005 database. When I compile the application and insert data then click on the submit button I get this error

"A first chance exception of type
'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException' occurred in System.Data.dll" I have been trying to solve this for a few days now with no luck, so any help would be appreciated. I'll post below the source code of the web form (addOrder.aspx). It might be worth mentioning that I have created another web form in the same project called addCustomer.aspx. Hello-

I have the following sql statement which produced an error when I add the order by clause

SQL = "SELECT DISTINCT nc_department.department, Count(nonconformance.department_id) as 'events', ISNULL(SUM(nonconformance.nc_wafer_qty),0) as wafers FROM nc_department LEFT OUTER JOIN nonconformance ON nc_department.department_id = nonconformance.department_id WHERE nc_department.active = '1' GROUP BY nc_department.department ORDER by nc_department.order_id"

This is the error I get:

ORDER BY items must appear in the select list if SELECT DISTINCT is specified.

Any help appreciated
