I have a couple tables that I am exporting data from.
I have one table (call it TABLE1) that contains abbreviations instead of actual words.
For example instead of having the full word "New York City", the column would just contain "NYC".
In another table (call it TABLE2) it has all the abbreviations and the actual words.
So in TABLE2 one column name is FieldName, another Abbreviation and another is Value.
So on a web site, to display that actual name I do something like this
Code:
SELECT CityBoxlabel AS City
FROM TABLE1 INNER JOIN
TABLE 2 AS CityBox ON ISNULL(TABLE1.City, 'NYC') = CityBox.[Value]
WHERE CityBox.FieldName = 'City'
This is working great except that some of these columns contain more than one abbreviation such as "NYC,WDC"
which would stand for "New York City" and "Washington DC"
The items that have more than one abbreviation are not being pulled across because my query is looking for an "NYC,WDC" in TABLE2 to INNER JOIN on but it won't be in there. But "NYC" and "WDC" by themselves are in there.
I tried messing with the INNER JOIN statement by saying something like
TABLE2 AS CityBox ON ISNULL(TABLE1.City, 'NYC') IN CityBox.[Value] INNER JOIN
But it wasn't allowing that.
I can write a program to do this, but I would rather keep it in T-SQL.
Hope this wasn't too confusing!
Any help is greatly appreciated!!

I am tying to join tables to get the result but it is not showing any data,i have shipping address column in both tables I want to show data in single column I don't know how to display.
select r1.ProductID,r1.ProductName,r1.PMNO ,r.ShippingInfo,r.ShippingAddress ,rs.ShippingAddress from R2InventoryTable r1 inner join RecycleComponents1Table r on r1.ProductID=r.ProductID
inner join
ReSaleorReStock1Table rs on r1.ProductID=rs.ProductID
where r1.HazMat='No' order by ProductID
If I join two tables it is showing data
select r1.ProductID,r1.ProductName,r1.PMNO ,r.ShippingInfo,r.ShippingAddress from R2InventoryTable r1 inner join RecycleComponents1Table r on r1.ProductID=r.ProductID
where r1.HazMat='No' order by ProductID

Hello group!i have a table "group_code" wich relates the names ofnt-(domain)-groups to codes. now i want use the stored procedurexp_logininfo (asking for the group-membership of the current user) tojoin the result to "group_code". then i must use the new result (thecode) to join against other tables.i know now, that i cant join results of SPs against tables. may be thata UDF with a table result is the correct approach. but i have no ideahow to wrap the xp_logininfo in a UDF.a other way can be to do in a UDF the same thing like the xp_logininfo.then this UDF should deliver at least the nt-(domain)-groups in wichthe current-user is a member. Is there anybody who can give me the code for that?many thanx in advance.Karl

Hi all,
I faced a problem, I have two tables - part and partmaster
part : part_no, part_qty (no key)
partmaster : part_no, part_description (primary key : part_no )
I want to select table part.* and partmaster.part_description.
(run on mssql 2k)
select a.*, b.part_description
from part a, partmaster b where a.part_no *= b.part_no
I want to and expect to have the result order like table "part". However, after the join, the order is different. I try to run it on mssql 7.0, the order is ok.
Then I modify and run the statement select a.* from part a, partmaster b where a.part_no *= b.part_no on 2k again. The result order is ok.
can anyone tell me the reason?
Now I try to fix this problem is adding a sequence field "part_seq" into table "part" and run the statement by adding a order by part_seq.
It does work!
Regards,
Simon

SELECT DISTINCT Image.ImageID, Image.JobID, Image.Filename, Tag.Name,
Tag.SortOrder, TagCat.name
FROM Image, JobTag, Tag, Job, Tagcat
WHERE Tag.TagID = JobTag.TagID
AND Image.JobID = Job.JobID
AND Job.JobID = JobTag.JobID
AND TagCat.TagCatID = Tag.TagCatID
ORDER BY Image.ImageID, Tag.SortOrder
I'd like to replace the query above with a some kind of a join, but I'm not sure how to do it. The reason I want to do this is to only get the category (TagCat.name) one time for each set of tags that go under that category for that particular job. Any thoughts on how I could do this? Would I need to create more than one query or do you think this can be one with just one query?

I am using SLQ Server 2008 R2. The database was designed by another company.
I have two tables: Client and Client_Location. In the Client table the pk is Client_ID. There is also a unique key: sys_Client_ID. Both the Client_ID and the sys_Client_ID fields exist as a foreign keys in the Client_Location table. However, the fields are not noted as unique in the Client_Location table. There are two fields in the Client_Location table that determine when the address was effective. They are from_dt and end_dt.
Multiple records have been loaded into the Client_Location table to track old as well as current addresses of clients.
I'm trying to run a report that will pull clients with a plan_id constraint from the Client table and join the Client_Location table to retrieve the current address of these clients.
My SQL is:
select distinct (a.client_id), a.cli_last AS Last_Name,
a.cli_first AS First_Name, a.cli_middle AS Mid_Init,
b.city AS City, b.county AS County, b.state AS State
from ECBH.dbo.tbl_Client a inner join ECBH.dbo.tbl_Client_Location b
on a.client_id = b.client_id
inner join ECBH.dbo.tbl_client_insurance c
on a.client_id = c.client_id
inner join ECBH_TEST.dbo.tbl_GEF_County d
on b.county = d.COUNTY_NAME
where c.plan_id = 4
order by a.cli_last, a.cli_first
Because multiple records exist in the Client_Location table, the result set has duplicates. How can I pull only the results where the from_dt is most recent?

So if an item is a bottle, it will have a unique BottleKey and Null for CaseKey and if an item is a Case, it will have a unique CaseKey and Null for BottleKey. However, the PrimaryIDs are the same for both the bottle and case. I get the results to look like this:
Bottlekey CaseKey PrimaryID
4754 NULL ABC-234
NULL 5465 ABC-234
.... .... .......
Is there a way to get the result sorted by Primary ID?
So that the rows are halved from what we have in the table above and the results look like
PrimaryID CaseKey BottleKey
ABC-234 5465 4754

Hey all,
I have 3 tables: 1 table with Module information (1 quiz-like part of an Exam), 1 table with the relationships between Modules and Exams (ratios) and 1 table with User information, that contains the Exam number, Module number, and score. I am trying to get a full list of modules' names for 1 exam, and the user's score for those modules they taken. All this would pertain to 1 single Exam. I am only getting records returned for those modules that the user has taken; I want the full list with NULL values for the scores of modules the user has not taken. Hope that made sense, here is my attempt:
Code:
SELECT ExamModules.Name, ExamUsers.Score
FROM ExamToModule LEFT OUTER JOIN
ExamModules ON ExamToModule.ModuleID = ExamModules.ID LEFT OUTER JOIN
ExamUsers ON ExamToModule.ModuleID = ExamUsers.MID AND ExamToModule.ExamID = ExamUsers.EID
WHERE (ExamToModule.ExamID = 1) AND (ExamUsers.UserName = 'dizzle')
In this case the user is Dizzle and the Exam's ID (primary key) is 1. I've changed LEFT to RIGHT and FULL, they all return the same few records. Help?

I need a little help and I hope I can write a clear description of the problem. I have to tables, customers and custrate. The customer table simply has a custid of other misc info. The custrate contains an entry for each rate for any particular customer (1 customer to many rates). However the rates are suppossed to come in pairs. For example, if a customer has a rate id of 120 then the customer should also have a corresponding custrate record with a rate_id of 200. If the customer has a rate_id of 130, then the customer should have a corresponding custrate record containing rate_id 300, and so on and so forth. How do I find the customer id with are missing the corresponding rate? Here's an example or what I'm trying to explain.customerid | name1 | fred 2 | tom3 | eric 4 | fredcustratecust_id | rate_id1 | 1201 | 2002 | 1302 | 3003 | 1204 | 130I looking for the sql statement that would return customer id of 3 and 4, since those are the only 2 records that don't have a corresponding rate. I have hunch that it requires a intra table join, but maybe i'm totally wrong. Can anyone help me please? I would greatly appreciate it!

We have some reports run quite slow because the queries are complicate and tables are large. So we create a materialized view in Oracle which store the result from the query and refresh it occationally. How to do this in MSSQL? I try the indexed view but seems it has lots of restrictions, our query has sub queries and cross database table joins so can't use the indexed view. Any other object or temp table can be used to cache the report data and be accessed globally by other procedures?
Any suggestions are welcome,
Cheers

I would like to create a database that keeps track of our companies subject matter experts. I have roughed out some of the tables. I would appreciate any feedback on if this is the right approach and if there might be any issues when I start writting a front-end (probably VB 2005).
What makes this interesting (at least for me) is that a subject has an owner and at least 1 "expert", possibly up to 3. Here is what I am thinking for tables:
tblEmployee
EmployeeID (PK)
LastName
FirstName
etc......
tblSubject
SubjectID (PK)
Description
tblOwner
SubjectID (FK)
EmployeeID (FK)
tblExpert1
SubjectID (FK)
EmployeeID (FK)
tblExpert2
SubjectID (FK)
EmployeeID (FK)
tblExpert3
SubjectID (FK)
EmployeeID (FK)
Does this make sense? Would I run into any issues when trying to display this on a form in VB?
Thanks in advance for any help!!!!!

Table A
Registation_key discharge_dt

1003 234 07/31/07 1
1003 235 08/01/07 7
I am trying to join Table A to Table B using the below log . Table A should have one unique mathincg record from Table B
option 1. Using registration_key and discharge_dt , looking for exact matching date( end_dt) in table B , if there is more than one record that matches then select lowest ID
option 2.if there is no record that matches option1 then, serch for the previous record with end_dt in table A less than end_dt table B. if there is more than one record then select lowest ID
option 3. if there is no record option 2 then search the next record that matches .. discharge_dt greater than end_Dt , if there is more than one record then select lowest Id
so basically, I am looking for an exact matching date in the same registration_key .. if the exact dt doesn't exist looking for the previous record and get the most closer dt and if there is no prvious record than look for next record,.
so the output should look like
Table B
Registration_key ID end_dt discharge_dt value
1001 888 07/15/07 7/15/07 2
1002 778 06/01/07 6/4/07 2
1003 234 07/31/07 8/1/07 7
How can I do this conditional join ?

I have a table activity which show the activities of the site. An activity could be related with no other entity or it could be related with an account, or with a contact or with an opportunity. An opportunity and a contact could be also related with an account.
My problem is that I need to show the activity and the related account (if there is any) but because the relationship with an account could be done by different ways, I dont know how to do it without join the account table several times.
This is my current query:
SELECT AC.IdActividad, CU.idcuenta
FROM Actividades AC LEFT JOIN Tareas TA ON TA.IdActividad = C.IdActividad
LEFT JOIN ActividadesXCuenta AXC ON AC.IdActividad = AXC.IdActividad LEFT JOIN dbo.Cuentas CU ON axc.IdCuenta = CU.IdCuenta
LEFT JOIN dbo.ActividadesXOportunidad axo ON AC.IdActividad = axo.IdActividad LEFT JOIN dbo.Oportunidades o ON axo.IdOportunidad = o.IdOportunidad LEFT JOIN dbo.Cuentas CU1 ON o.IdCuenta = CU.IdCuenta
LEFT JOIN dbo.ActividadesXContacto axco ON AC.IdActividad = axco.IdActividad LEFT JOIN dbo.Contactos con ON axco.IdContacto = con.IdContacto LEFT JOIN dbo.Cuentas CU2 ON o.IdCuenta = CU.IdCuenta
As you see, I have the table Cuenta joined 3 times. That means that I need to put the ActivityID field 3 times but based on how the report was developed, I could not do that.

GROUP BY fsp_auftrag.jahr, fsp_auftrag.monatnr, fsp_auftrag.kundenkreis, fsp_auftrag.kundengruppe, fsp_auftrag.abnehmergruppe, fsp_auftrag.artnr
My problem is that each table contains additional values like art_amount, art_turnover etc... whereby the first table contains plan values while the second table contains actual values.
My goal is to get plan as well as the actual values in one row, how is that possible? If I put the values into each of the selects I get two rows, which is not the wished output.
Is it possible to join the tables after the union took place?
Thanks in advance!

I need to find all tables which has a join (either inside an sp, view, etc) with my given table in a db.
sys.dm_sql_referencing_entities doesn't work here.
Note: i dont want to identify by FK References, for 2 reasons:
1) tables might not met with a join (just FK was defined)
2) sometimes, a join happened between tables, without an FK defined

I have a very confusing/complicated query that I am trying to run and getting not the results that i want.
Essentially I have three tables (t1, t2, t3) and I want to select data from two of them, but there are conditions on the data where I need fields to match across pairs of tables.
When I run my select query I am getting far too many records - it's giving me all possible combinations, instead of the proper combinations that I want.
Select t1.*, t3.field2, t3.field3
FROM, t1, t2, t3WHERE t2.field4=t3.field4 AND t1.field5=x AND t1.field6=t2.field6
I suspect there is plenty wrong with this query - where should I start correcting it?

Any ideas on how I can constrain a lookup or merge join based on the dimension row's effective and expired dates so three criteria are needed as follows:
1. DataStagingSource.ModifyDate < DataWarehouseDimension.RowExpiredDate AND
2. DataStagingSource.ModifyDate >= DataWarehouseDimension.RowEffectiveDate AND
3. DataStagingSource.NaturalKey = DataWarehouseDimension.NaturalKey

Hi,
I have a complex join filtering on a replicated sql server database which was working fine in previous versions of sql compact. The query is something like the following:
SELECT <published columns> FROM <filtered table> INNER JOIN <child table> ON <child table>.ID = <filtered table>.ID and <child table>.date > getdate()-30
After I upgraded to compact databse 3.5, for some weird reason whichever tables have both these Join filter and article filter together behaving improperly. If I insert any row in any of these table, the row is replicated properly to the server, but it does not send the new row to any other users. Again this thing works fine in older version. I have switched back tyo the old version of sql ce and again it's started working.

Looking to improve performance of the following code.
It basically generates future days for each dog. So there is a dog table and a day table with every day.
These 2 table cross join and then fill in missing rows. As time moves i will fill in further future dates but will need the initial insert to be a reasonable query.
All columns are covered by index's but the queries at the end take quite a long time. I would hope for index scan to just point out the missing rows especially on the final query.
How to make the last query as fast as possible.
IF OBJECT_ID('dbo.[AllDates]', 'U') IS NOT NULL
DROP TABLE dbo.[AllDates]
CREATE TABLE dbo.[AllDates] (
[Date] date not null PRIMARY KEY
)
;WITH Dates AS
[Code] .....

I have a table of "applicants" with unique applicant id and another table "reviews" with reviews which has unique id and Emplid and contains general program name like Math and then may contain 3 addition rows for specific program like Calculus, algebra, geometry etc.
There may or may not be a record for each applicant id in table reviews or there can be 1 or more than one record in reviews based on level of review( General or Specific).
All the general reviews has “Math” as Program_code but if there are more reviews, they can have Program_code like “Cal” , “Abr”, “Geo”
I want to join the tables so I can get all the records from both the tables where Program_code in reviews table is “Math” only.
That is I want to join the table and get all the records from reviews table where the program_code is “Math” only
How can I do that?
