Submitting Report Requests From .NET Application
Feb 13, 2007
Hi,
One of my client want to shift his reporting to SSRS. He wants to submit his report requests to SSRS. He wants the report should run at the reporting server side (not on client system) and output should be exported to a folder on server.
I am some what successful in submitting the report requests using subscriptions. But I have no idea to retrieve the requests from SSRS with the execution status.
I have to display all submitted reprot requests with execution status (success or fail) in a data grid and user selects one report to see the out file. Where can I get this information?
And how can I create a subscription that runs immediatly after submission. (without any delay)?
Help me please!!!
Thanks in advance, Gouri Sankar

I installed SQL reporting services 2005 and successfully configured reporting services.After designing the report using Bussiness Intelligence Studio, i tried to deploy my reporting services application to the localhost , I got the below mentioned error :
TITLE: Microsoft Report Designer
------------------------------
A connection could not be made to the report server http://localhost/ReportServer.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The attempt to connect to the report server failed. Check your connection information and that the report server is a compatible version. (Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer)
------------------------------
The request failed with HTTP status 404: Not Found. (Microsoft.ReportingServices.Designer)
Can anybody provide a solution for this issue....

Hi all , I have a question concering submitting to a SQL database
and the error it returns. The purpose of the code is to test
connectivity to a SQL database. It works properly because I can
change the code to check and return and it does so properly. The code
for submissions is below and the elispses represent other code that I
took out to keep it short:<%@ Import Namespace="System" %><%@ Import Namespace="System.Data" %><%@ Import Namespace="System.Data.SqlClient" %><%@ Import Namespace="System.Configuration" %>

...
<asp:button text="Save and Submit" OnClick="SubmitBtn_Click"
runat="server"/>
...

<ASP:DataGrid id="MyList" HeaderStyle-BackColor="#aaaadd"
BackColor="#ccccff" runat="server"/>

The error I get is:Object reference not set to an instance of an object.Checking the database, I can see that the values were inserted properly. Any suggestions?Thanks - James

Steve McCormick writes "I have written a stored procedure that may be used as a utility. I developed it because I keep having to replicate the content of support data tables between environments when I don't have a link and cannot use the import/export utilities. The procedure generates insert statements that replicate the content of a table. You simply provide the table name as a parameter and it generates an insert statement for each record. The insert statement is dynamic for however many columns the table has and performs appropriate conversions of data to represent how the insert statements should be written. If the table has a primary key, it encases the insert statement in an (IF NOT EXISTS) condition that checks the primary key duplication constraints before attempting the insert.
Would you be interested in this tool for your readers and if so, how do I submit it?"

Is there some recommended way to clean input before submitting it to the database? We'd like to develop a library that can be used on our ASP/ASP.NET apps to filter input before it's sent to the SQL Server and Oracle databases. Is there a way to create a .NET DLL that can be used for both ASP.NET and classic ASP apps. Thanks.

Hi,
I'm not very asp.net savy and could not find any solid examples of what I need done. I have one text box on my page and one submit button. I would like the information entered from the text box to go into a SQL database when clicking on the submit button. I'm not sure what the exact coding should be in order to get this operating the way I want. I'm coding in VB, this is what I have so far:

Untitled Page

Thanks,
Derek

Hello! I'm recieving an error when I submit a form to an Access database. I took this site over from someone else and kept their code as I'm more of a designer than a programmer. If anyone has any ideas as to how to fix it, I would really appreciate it. I'm pretty clueless when it comes to this. I've tried to figure it out on my own, but I seem to be failing. Any help would be great! Here's what I receive when I submit the form:

Hi, I'm new around here and am stumped. I have created a form where I submit the information into a SQL Server 2000 table. When I submit the information through the form, only the first character of each field populates inside of the SQL table. This happens for every field except for two, zip and comments. The zip field is numeric and the comments field is text. All the other fields are varchar fields; and these are the fields with the problems. I have attempted to change the data type to text, but that did not work either. I am doing this through a stored procedure I created. Here is the asp code:

I have a form setup, the code of which is listed below, and I would like to be able to submit the data that is entered in the form to a SQL 2005 standard database via the SqlDataSource control and a button. I'm just having trouble doing so because of the coding. Any help or suggestions would be greata s I've already read through the tutorials on this site and they don't go in depth very much. Thanks!

Folks,
I have been hunting for a way to trace sql requests going to/from the sql express server (from VS.2005 using asp.net). I.E., I want to see the raw SQL commands that asp.net is generating.
Can anyone point me to a tool or article? Thanks,

Hi. I'm new to SQL Server programming. I'm using it at my new job for the first time and catching on quickly. I've run into a problem where I run a request via interactive query and it times out. It's really annoying because it seems to happy a lot. Is this just a memory issue with my machine (it has 2.8 GB of RAM) or there a way around it?
Thanks!

I'm monitoring one of our servers, and on the whole it is performingwell. However, I'm puzzled by the number of LockRequests/sec thatPerfmon is recording. We frequently see values exceeding 50,000 andthe current peak is 533,616 (the average, as I type this, is 35,102).There are only 40 users on the system.sp_lock shows nothing like this number of locks; it shows somethingof the order of 30 locks maximum for each execution, which seems farmore reasonable.SQL Profiler seems to back up the Perfmon values; it records hundredsof "Lock Acquired" events per second during these peak periods.For example:NO. OFLOCKS OBJECT STARTTIME===== ====== ======================678User_T2005-04-15 09:03:22.863931User_T2005-04-15 09:03:22.877924User_T2005-04-15 09:03:22.89316EnquiryUser_T2005-04-15 09:03:22.893961User_T2005-04-15 09:03:22.910820User_T2005-04-15 09:03:22.9234NULL2005-04-15 09:03:22.923828User_T2005-04-15 09:03:22.9404NULL2005-04-15 09:03:22.940734User_T2005-04-15 09:03:22.957Can anyone think why such a comparatively small system should generatethese numbers of locks? Why does sp_lock NOT show the same level oflocking?

I added a database named appdata to the app_data folder to hold temporary application data. I want to show this data in a report. I created a dataset and an object to select the data. I then created an report.fdlc and a report.aspx with a ReportViewer on it pointing to the dataset object. If I right click on the report.aspx and View in Browser, it work perfectly. But when I upload it to the server I get and browse to it I get (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified). The server does allow remote connections. So I am thinking it's my connection string of the fact that the server doesn't have Sql Server Express.?
Here's my connection string. What am I missing here?
<add name="appdataConnectionString"
connectionString="Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|appdata.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True"
providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />

I seem to be unable to pass parameters from a VB .Net application to Reporting Services.
Before I added the parameters to the query, I got all the rows back. So I know the application is basically working. Now that I have added the parameters, I get nothing.
I thought the SetExecutionParameters function would help, but my syntax is wrong and it fails.
I would appreciate any hint as to what step I am missing.
Report setup:
Parameters
Name Value
@Report =Parameters!Report.Value
@Corp =Parameters!Corp.Value
@Dept =Parameters!Dept.Value
Query conditions
WHERE Report = 'BudgetVarianceSummary'
AND PeriodEnd = CONVERT(DateTime,CONVERT(char,GETDATE()- DATEPART(day,GETDATE()),112))
AND Report = @Report
AND Corp = @Corp
AND Dept = @Dept
VB Code snippet:
Dim reportPath As String = "/FinancialReports/BudgetVarianceSummary"
Dim format As String = "PDF"
' Prepare report parameter.
Dim parameters(3) As ParameterValue
parameters(0) = New ParameterValue()
parameters(0).Name = "Report"
parameters(0).Value = "BudgetVarianceSummary"
parameters(1) = New ParameterValue()
parameters(1).Name = "Corp"
parameters(1).Value = "10"
parameters(2) = New ParameterValue()
parameters(2).Name = "Dept"
parameters(2).Value = "7255"
Dim execInfo As New ExecutionInfo
Dim execHeader As New ExecutionHeader()
Dim SessionId As String
Dim extension As String = ""
rs.ExecutionHeaderValue = execHeader
execInfo = rs.LoadReport(reportPath, historyID)
'This line of code fails
'rs.SetExecutionParameters(parameters, "en-us")
result = rs.Render(format, devInfo, extension, encoding, mimeType, warnings, streamIDs)

How should i integrate Report Builder with my .net application.
Currently I am using ReportViewer Class to integrate Regular Reports.
But in that we need to pass both
reportViewer.ServerUrl = "https://SERVERURL/ReportServer/Pages/ReportViewer.aspx?%2fFOLDER%2f";
reportViewer.ReportPath = "REPORT NAME";
reportViewer.Toolbar = com.mitchell.services.workbench.carr.ReportViewer.multiState.True;
reportViewer.Parameters = com.mitchell.services.workbench.carr.ReportViewer.multiState.True;
reportViewer.SetQueryParameter("Company","Company Name");
ReportSecurity rs = new ReportSecurity();
reportViewer.SetQueryParameter("ReportData",Server.UrlEncode(rs.Encrypt(m_sCompCode + "_" + m_objUserInfo.UserID)));
string str = reportViewer.Url;
and passing the str value in my iframe of application
above code is working fine for regular reports
But how should i integrate REPORT BUILDER
Any web tutorial from where i can get good help.

I thought I can probably find out how the report manager works and create a similar application so that I can define my own things in there.
Looks like there is no sample where I could get a lead. Now I have decided if I can include the report manager in a new aspx page in my application and disable the stuff which is not required by the user to look at it.
I can definitely include the report manager url in the Iframe but how do I disable the stuff from the report manager.
Please help, I am having real hard time.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,
You help is very much appreciated.
I have an Intranet environment that contains tens of apps that use a specific database.
I want to create an Intranet test environment (which will use a test database), by basically copying the existing Intranet environment to a new location.
* I cannot change the connection strings in the applications level since each app stores it differently (some store it in Web.Config, some hard coded, etc....).
Then, have a layer that sits between the Intranet Apps and SQL SERVER (or inside SQL SERVER itself), that will intercept the connections requests.
Once intercepted, the code will check if the connection request comes from Intranet Test environemnt, and if so, change the connection string on the fly to point to the test database.
The question:
Is there a way in SQL SERVER 2005, to intercept connections, and then, based on the application that requested the connection, modify the connection on the fly (so that if the calling app is from test_Intranet – intercept the connection and change it to point to a test database, otherwise leave the connection as it is (live database).
Thank you,
Roy

To any Microsoft SSIS developers reading this forum, some requests:
1) do NOT allow a package to run if it has "package configurations" enabled and one or more XML files with configurations cannot be found;
2) update the properties window with the properties read from the "package configurations";
3) allow relative paths in the "package configurations" locations (relative to the package location)
Thank you :-)

OK, I am not a programmer, but administrate the Report Server and its security. The .NET programmers want to connect direct to Report Server using WEB.CONFIG settings (see below).
<appSettings>
<add key="ConnectionString" value="Server=bpatlqddwatlqddw01;Database=MP2_NET_STAGE;Integrated Security=False;User ID=MP2_Net;Password=xxxxx;Persist Security Info=false"/>
<add key="LogPath" value="\bpga030wde01wwwroot$MP2_NetLogs"/>
<add key="Url" value="http://bpga030wde01/MP2_Net/" />
What do I need to do to ensure their dynamic reports can run against my Report Server? What kind of rights do I assign the "MP2_Net" (above) login? All of this is outside the IIS-Report Server security environment? Do I assign rights via SQL Mgr? I cannot find any doco on this process.

I have a scenario where we want something like a message bus. We can have multiple clients sending in events and would like a way to
i) persist those events
ii) Send out the notifications to the subcribers (this would be some C# services)
What is the best way to do this? I know that we can build something from scratch using WCF Publish-Subscribe. But i was interested in knowing if I can leverage SQL Service Broker to do the work.

Hello Reporting Services Gurus!
I'm about to start on my first reporting services project, but before I mess it up, I'm looking for some guidance on how best to achieve my mission. Here's what I'm looking to achieve:
I have a datacentric application (SQL Server 2005 Express w/ Advanced Services backend) in which I want to build about 50 "canned" reports for the end users. I want to build the reports utilizing server mode so I can take advantage of some of Reporting Services advanced features. I'm not sure what the best practice would be to build the reporting services project. Is it better to include the report project as another project within the application solution? Or, should I build the report project independent of the application solution? What are the pros and cons of doing it either way? How does including the report project build if it's included in the application solution? How would a ClickOnce deployment deploy the report project to the report server?
My ultimate goal would be to have an "off-the-shelf" software solution that includes an installation package consisting of the application project and report project. Is it even possible due to the Reporting Services architecture to achieve an install in this manner with ClickOnce, Windows Installer, or Installshield? Or, is building the report project indepedent of the application project and deploying the reports to the report server "manually" (i.e. deploy within the report server project) the only solution?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Tony

We have multiline text box of datatype ntext, and users will use tabs to format the data for better readability.
How can we keep this formatting in SSRS 2000? Right now, it simply goes away and resembles nothing like the application.
Thanks!

Hello, I have a bit of a problem. Some of my pages has way to many database requests, some pages upto 70 requests,and the loading time can be all the way up to 12seconds because of the many requests. So i am trying to optimize it abit.What i want to know if how to send several ID's to the database and collect the result from all of the ID's, i have a stored procedure like this:
public DataTable User_GetUsernameTypeTwo(string strUsername){OpenDBCon();mCom.Parameters.Clear();mCom.CommandText = "Profile_GetUsernameTypeTwo";mCom.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@UserName", SqlDbType.NVarChar, 20));mCom.Parameters["@UserName"].Value = strUsername;myAdap = new SqlDataAdapter();myTable = new DataTable();myAdap.SelectCommand = mCom;myAdap.Fill(myTable);CloseDBCon();return myTable;}
To this i send a username and in return i get info about the user that then is presented on the page. If i have a gridview on the page with 20 posts, then it needs to make 20 requests to this file in order to collect all the info for all the users. Then i have one just like the one above that collects the photos of all the users. So my first thought was that i merge these two together, witch works perfect, reduces the database calls by around 40%. Then i thought, perhaps can i get all the info from all the users in 1 request, to reduce the load on the database even more, my problem is: How can i rewrite the one above to accept lets say 50 usernames (1 username can max have 20characters), and return the info from all of them. Since i use a stored procedure i cant with ease use WHILE (username = xxx) AND (username = yyy) AND (username = ccc), then i would have to add 50 Parameters and add each username to a seperate parameter and then look if the parameter is null or if it contains a username. So i need to find another way to send the usernames, so the sqlserver can add them to the where clause, perhpas using IN?
This is the sql server store procedure (it works perfect, when its one user i am requesting info about), i am using FULL OUTER JOIN because ALL fields i request can be NULL:
ALTER PROCEDURE [dbo].[Profile_GetUserpopupInfo] -- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here@UserName nvarchar(20)ASBEGIN-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from-- interfering with SELECT statements.SET NOCOUNT ON;SELECT settings_username.color, settings_username.pic1, settings_username.pic2, profile_profilephoto.imageurl, profile_profilephoto.alttext FROM settings_username FULL OUTER JOIN profile_profilephoto ON profile_profilephoto.username = settings_username.username AND (profile_profilephoto.approved = 1) WHERE (settings_username.username = @UserName)END
Anyone got any idea of how to send a bunch of usernames to this stored proc? (it must be efficient since there is alot of users)
Patrick
