Summing Multiple Rows In Columns
Jul 9, 2014
I am working with a MS SQL database associated with SCCM 2007. SCCM collects software product usage data, and I am tasked with generating a report that will return results between two user-chosen date ranges. I set up prompts for month, year, endmonth, endyear. They would enter 2, 2014, 4, 2014 for example. Timekey would equal 201402, endtimekey = 201404. The tables I am concerned about look like this:
v_MonthlyUsageSummary
TimeKey ResourceID FileID UserID UsageCount TSUsageCount UsageTime LastUsage
201402108343 253362240038122 0 2550272014-02-28 13:29:39.000

The problem is I only know how to grab one timekey, but I need to combine multiple timekeys to sum up the usage counts for each workstation.
Here is the full query.
declare @TimeKey int
declare @months float
declare @endTimeKey int
set @TimeKey=100*@Year+@Month
set @endTimeKey=100*@endYear+@EndMonth
select @months=DATEDIFF(d,@timekey,@endTimeKey)
[Code] .....

Hello,
I have a survey (30 questions) application in a SQL server db. The application uses several relational tables. The results are arranged so that each answer is on a seperate row:
user1 answer1user1 answer2user1 answer3user2 answer1user2 answer2user2 answer3
For statistical analysis I need to transfer the results to an Excel spreadsheet (for later use in SPSS). In the spreadsheet I need the results to appear so that each user will be on a single row with all of that user's answers on that single row (A column for each answer):
user1 answer1 answer2 answer3user2 answer1 answer2 answer3
How can this be done? How can all answers of a user appear on a single row
Thanx,Danny.

I concatenate multiple rows from one table in multiple columns like this:
--Create Table
CREATE TABLE [Person].[Person_1](
[BusinessEntityID] [int] NOT NULL,
[PersonType] [nchar](2) NOT NULL,
[FirstName] [varchar](100) NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT [PK_Person_BusinessEntityID_1] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
[Code] ....
This works very well, but I want to concatenate more rows with different [PersonType]-Values in different columns and I don't like the overhead, of using the same table in every subquery ([Person_1]). Is there a more elegant way to do this, without using a temp table or something else?

Hello All,
I am rather new to reporting on SQL Server 2005 so please be patient with me.
I need to create a report that will generate system information for a server, the issue im having is that the table I am having to gather the information from seems to only allow me to pull off data from only one row.
For example,. Each row contains a different system part (I.e. RAM) this would be represented by an identifier (1), but I to list each system part as a column in a report
The table (System Info) looks like:-
ID | System part |
1 | RAM
2 | Disk Drive
10| CPU
11| CD ROM |
Which
So basically I need it to look like this.
Name | IP | RAM | Disk Drive|
----------------------------------------------
A | 127.0.0.1 | 512MB | Floppy
So Far my SQL code looks like this for 1 item
SELECT SYSTEM PART
FROM System Info
WHERE System.ID = 1
How would I go about displaying the other system parts as columns with info
Any help is much appreciated!

I previously posted a problem with result set bindings but I have not been able to resolve my problem. I guess all this comes with being new to programming in this environment! Anyway, I am trying to figure out how to process from an ADO.NET connection multiple rows with multiple columns. I have to read and manipulate each row. I was originally looking at using a foreach loop but have not been able to get it to work. One reply to my previous thought I should be using a data task to accomplish this. Could someone tell me the best way to handle this situation? As a note, I am new to programming in SSIS and basically trying to learn it as I go so please bear with me! Thanks in advance!

Hello, This is my first post so please be kind. I have been attempting to convert a query I built in MS Access for use in MSSQL 2000, the syntax for these is different so I was frustrated to find out I could not use the access query.
I have 4 columns one containing a user Id and the others costs, I wish to total the costs per user ID at the end of each row.
So far I have managed to convert about half of my access query, this gives mev the clientID's and costs in columns but I cannot for the life of me get the costs in a total. It's annoying because my access query works perfectly.
This is my Access query:
SELECT DISTINCT Holiday_Bookings.ClientID, Holiday_Bookings.Booking_Cost, Room_Facilities.FacilityCost, Rooms.CostPerNight,
Rooms!CostPerNight*Nights_Stayed+Holiday_Bookings!Booking_Cost+Room_Facilities!FacilityCost AS TotalCost,
[TotalCost]*17.5/100+[TotalCost] AS [Total+VAT]
FROM Room_Facilities INNER JOIN (Hotels INNER JOIN (Holiday_Bookings RIGHT JOIN Rooms ON Holiday_Bookings.ClientID = Rooms.ClientID) ON Hotels.HotelID = Rooms.HotelID) ON Room_Facilities.FacilityID = Rooms.FacilityID;
And this is what I have been able to salvage into MSSQL format:
SELECT
Holiday_Bookings.ClientID,
Holiday_Bookings.Booking_Cost,
Rooms.CostPerNight,
Room_Facilities.FacilityCost
FROM
Rooms
INNER JOIN Room_Facilities ON (Rooms.FacilityID = Room_Facilities.FacilityID)
INNER JOIN Holiday_Bookings ON (Rooms.Clients_ID = Holiday_Bookings.ClientID)
How can I total the three columns and add the tax?

We recently added a new database at the company. It has only onepurpose - to hold massive amounts a daily data generated by telephonecalls on a network.The amount of data was so large (several gigabytes a day) that the guywho set up the database creates a new table for it each day.His thinking was that if we only need to query one day's worth of datathen it would be a lot faster to query a table with one day's datathan having to query many days of data in one table.I see his reasoning. Any comments or alternatives to this schemewould be appreciated.Here's the question though...I'm writing a front end for this and waswondering if the most efficient way to query and sum data acrossmultiple tables (days) is in the form of the following statement.Suppose three days of worth of data are wanted:select sum(ET) from (select sum(vc_elapsed_time) AS ET fromswitch2030608 where init_cell_info_cell = 196 union all selectsum(vc_elapsed_time) as ET from switch2030609 whereinit_cell_info_cell = 196 union all select sum(vc_elapsed_time) as ETfrom switch2030610 where init_cell_info_cell = 196 ) tIn my front end, based on user input, I plan to keep extending thisstatement with more union alls. Is this the best way to implement thegoal of this query?-David

I am trying to convert the rows in a table to columns. I have found similar threads on the forum addressing this issue on a high level suggesting the use of cursors, PIVOT Transform, and other means. Hi, I have the following script segment which is failing:
CREATE TABLE #LatLong (Latitude DECIMAL, Longitude DECIMAL, PRIMARY KEY (Latitude, Longitude))
INSERT INTO #LatLong SELECT DISTINCT Latitude, Longitude FROM RGCcache
When I run it I get the following error: "Violation of PRIMARY KEY constraint 'PK__#LatLong__________7CE3D9D4'. Cannot insert duplicate key in object 'dbo.#LatLong'."
Im not sure how this is failing as when I try creating another table with 2 decimal columns and repeated values, select distinct only returns distinct pairs of values.
The failure may be related to the fact that RGCcache has about 10 million rows, but I can't see why.
Any ideas?

row_number() over (partition by act_reference order by act_reference) as rowno,
t3.s_initials "Initials"

order by act_reference
[code]...
But what I would love to do next is take each of the above rows - and return the initials either in one column with all the nulls and duplicate values removed, separated by a comma ..
ref, initials
Ag-4xYS
Ag-6xYS,BL
Ap-1xKW
At-2x SAS,CW
At-3x SAS,CW
OR the above but using variable number of columns based on the maximum number of different initials for each row.this is not strictly required, but maybe neater for further work on the view
ref, init1,init2
Ag-4xYS
Ag-6xYS,BL
Ap-1xKW

I have a report which is a list of items and I display everything about the item. It is great. My report table in the layout tab is simple. Header,Detail,Footer. Each Item has 65 columns. The number of items (rows) vary upon what you want to see. Example data.
Item#, Description, CaseSalePrice, Cost, BottleSalePrice, Discount
123, Grenadine, 100.00, 75.00, 15.50, 2.00
456, Lime Juice, 120.00, 81.00, 17.25, 2.00
There could be 1 item or 4000 items.
What I want to see is.
Item # - 123, 456
Description - Grenadine, Lime Juice
CaseSalePrice - 100.00, 120.00
Cost - 75.00, 81.00
BottleSalePrice - 15.50, 17.25
Discount - 2.00, 2.00
What I am actually doing is running this the top example and saving to excel. Then copying the sheet. Creating a new sheet then doing a paste special transpose and this gives the users what they want to see.
I want to grab that table object in the report layout tab and twist it 90degrees so the header is on the left, detail is in the middle and the footer is on the right. It would be perfect.
The dynamic column need is really the problem here. I never know how many items will be in the report. They all have the same basic information like description and pricing.
I am all out of creative ideas, any help would be appreciated.

I have a business need to create a report by query data from a MS SQL 2008 database and display the result to the users on a web page. The report initially has 6 columns of data and 2 out of 6 have JSON data so the users request to have those 2 JSON columns parse into 15 additional columns (first JSON column has 8 key/value pairs and the second JSON column has 7 key/value pairs). Here what I have done so far:
I found a table value function (fnSplitJson2) from this link [URL]. Using this function I can parse a column of JSON data into a table. So when I use the function above against the first column (with JSON data) in my query (with CROSS APPLY) I got the right data back the but I got 8 additional rows of each of the row in my table. The reason for this side effect is because the function returned a table of 8 row (8 key/value pairs) for each json string data that it parsed.
1. First question: How do I modify my current query (see below) so that for each row in my table i got back one row with 19 columns.
SELECT A.ITEM1,A.ITEM2,A.ITEM3,A.ITEM4, B.*
FROM PRODUCT A
CROSS APPLY fnSplitJson2(A.ITEM5,NULL) B
If updated my query (see below) and call the function twice within the CROSS APPLY clause I got this error: "The multi-part identifier "A.ITEM6" could be be bound.
2. My second question: How to i get around this error?
SELECT A.ITEM1,A.ITEM2,A.ITEM3,A.ITEM4, B.*, C.*
FROM PRODUCT A
CROSS APPLY fnSplitJson2(A.ITEM5,NULL) B, fnSplitJson2(A.ITEM6,NULL) C
I am using Microsoft SQL Server 2008 R2 version. Windows 7 desktop.

Third I'd like to select all the primary keys of just the rows not in the current edition
Not really sure how to describe this without making a dataset

I am facing a problem in writing the stored procedure for multiple search criteria.
I am trying to write the query in the Procedure as follows
Select * from Car
where Price=@Price1 or Price=@price2 or Price=@price=3
and
where Manufacture=@Manufacture1 or Manufacture=@Manufacture2 or Manufacture=@Manufacture3
and
where Model=@Model1 or Model=@Model2 or Model=@Model3
and
where City=@City1 or City=@City2 or City=@City3
I am Not sure of the query but am trying to get the list of cars that are to be filtered based on the user input.

Hi,
I have multiple columns in a Single Table and i want to search values in different columns. My table structure is
col1 (identity PK)
col2 (varchar(max))
col3 (varchar(max))
I have created a single FULLTEXT on col2 & col3.
suppose i want to search col2='engine' and col3='toyota' i write query as
SELECT
TBL.col2,TBL.col3
FROM
TBL
INNER JOIN
CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col2,'engine') TBL1
ON
TBL.col1=TBL1.[key]
INNER JOIN
CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col3,'toyota') TBL2
ON
TBL.col1=TBL2.[key]
Every thing works well if database is small. But now i have 20 million records in my database. Taking an exmaple there are 5million record with col2='engine' and only 1 record with col3='toyota', it take substantial time to find 1 record.
I was thinking this i can address this issue if i merge both columns in a Single column, but i cannot figure out what format i save it in single column that i can use query to extract correct information.
for e.g.;
i was thinking to concatinate both fields like
col4= ABengineBA + ABBToyotaBBA
and in search i use
SELECT
TBL.col4
FROM
TBL
INNER JOIN
CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col4,' "ABengineBA" AND "ABBToyotaBBA"') TBL1
ON
TBL.col1=TBL1.[key]
Result = 1 row
But it don't work in following scenario
col4= ABengineBA + ABBCorola ToyotaBBA
SELECT
TBL.col4
FROM
TBL
INNER JOIN
CONTAINSTABLE(TBL,col4,' "ABengineBA" AND "ABB*ToyotaBBA"') TBL1
ON
TBL.col1=TBL1.[key]
Result=0 Row
Any idea how i can write second query to get result?

I am in the process of creating a Report, and in this, i need ONLY the row groups (Parents and Child).I have a Parent group field called "Dept", and its corresponding field is MacID.I cannot create a child group or Column group (because that's not what i want).I am then inserting rows below MacID, and then i toggle the other rows to MacID and MacID to Dept.
