Sybase, ODBC And Passwords

Mar 20, 2006

I've written an ODBC destination script that connects me with my version 11.5.1.2 Sybase database.

I've read the posts in this forum around Connection Strings and ODBC. It appears that certain drivers (or Integration Services?) have a propensity to drop the password part of the connection string off, which makes connecting rather difficult.

One can get around this by hard coding the password and adding it to the connection string that the connection manager retains.

This is rather unsatisfactory in terms of security and aesthetics.

Perhaps we can squirrel the password away in some dark corner where the system can retrieve it and a support team can change it.

Ideally, I'd prefer to use Integration Security, but as far as I know ODBC doesn't support this.

Any ideas?

Regards

Guy

How To Use 32-bit ODBC Driver (sybase) At An ETL Application Running (deployed Into SQL Server) On A 64-bit Machine ?

Oct 9, 2006

I am developing an ETL system on a 32-bit machine let's say, called 'dwdev'. The application connects to a Sybase database as a source system using ODBC connection. I am able to run this application directly from Visual studio 2005 and i am able to deploy it into SQL Server 2005 and run it from Server as a job. Both work. At this server i am connecting to a SQL Server instance called 'dwdev'.

When i transfer my application onto a 64-bit machine, let's say called 'dwtest', i am able to run my application from Visual Studio 2005 properly and it works, but when i deploy it into SQL Server (instance is called 'dwtest') and try to run it as a job just like the development machine, it gives an error and stops executing.

I was facing 'data source' type of error when i was first trying it from Visual Studio, but i solved this problem by setting Run64bitRunTime settings to FALSE on the Project's properties Debugging Page, at 64-bit machine. now it uses 32-bit runtime then 32-bit Sybase ODBC driver. But i cannot force the application to use 32 bit runtime when i am executing it from SQL Server as a job.

How can i do that? is there an alternative method?

Thanks for your help...

SQL 2005 Passwords, Can It Be Configured To Accept Case-insensitive Passwords???

Jul 7, 2006

Users were able tolog on to our SQL 2000 servers with their passwords being case-insensitive.

Now with SQL 2005 some users can't logon because SQL 2005 passwords are case-sensitive.

Can SQL 2005 be configured so that passwords are NOT case sensitive???

Thanks!

Integration Services :: Unable To See 64bit ODBC Driver From SSIS Odbc Connection?

Jun 1, 2015

I am using SSIS 2014 with the below .net framework version and installed in Windows server 2012 R2 . I have installed my client's odbc drivers (both 32 bit and 64 bit) in my production server and created ODBC system DSNs for 32 bit and 64 bit.

When i open SSIS 2014 and tried to create the odbc connection but i can able to see only the 32 bit system DSN connection ,i can't able to see my 64 bit odbc system dsn connection.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
Version 11.0.50727.1 RTMREL
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.5.51650

SQL Server Integration Services
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 12.0.1524.0

And i installed my client odbc drivers(32,64 bit) and created ODBC system DSNs in my local system and when i open ssis 2014 and i can able to see both the ODBC system DSNS(32,64) connections from SSIS ODBC connection.

I am using below version of .net framework in my local system which was installed in windows 7 and i have SSIS 2012 also installed in my system and i can able to see both ODBC connections using 2012 as well in my local system.

Microsoft Visual Studio 2012 Shell (Integrated)
Version 11.0.50727.1 RTMREL
Microsoft .NET Framework
Version 4.5.50938

SQL Server Integration Services
Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 12.0.1524.0

why i can not see the ODBC 64 bit system DSN connection from SSIS in my production server ?

How Can I Use Create Or Alter Statements With ODBC And Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*mdb)?

May 13, 2007

Hi,

I am using VB.NET 2005 and set up an ODBC connection via ODBC.ODBCConnection to a MDB database. Therefor, I use the "Microsoft Access ODBC Driver (*.mdb)".

When I set up a ODBCCommand like "ALTER DATABASE..." or "CREATE TABLE..." and issue it with the com.ExecuteNonQuery() command, I get an error from ODBC driver, that a SQL statement has to begin with SELECT, INSERT, UPDATE or DELETE.

How can I use DDL statements via ODBC?

I would appreciate if you could help me to use ODBC for that - no OLE, no ADO.

Thanks for help!

Regards,

Stefan D.

Can't Find SQL Native Client In ODBC Connection Manager In SQL Server Open Database Connectivity (ODBC)

Feb 13, 2007

I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this posting. Looking at the descriptions, it appeared to be the best choice.

I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. I have installed the SQL Native Client for
XP. However, when I try to add a new data source through ODBC Connection
Manager, SQL Native Client is not listed as an option. I have followed this procedure on three other systems with no problems. What would be causing the
SQL Native Client to not show up in the list of available ODBC data sources?

Passwords In SQL 6.5

Mar 24, 1999

I have to create some type of an sp that will force users to change
their passwords every 30 days. It sounds like I should be able to
create a simple table with the login and the password expiration date.
Then, I should create some type of function to check the expiration, get
the new password and run sp_password. Has anyone done this before?
Where would this table be created? In Master? Would that also be where
I should create this sp? Should this be an xp?

I'm fairly light on creating sp's. Can anyone suggest a starting point
for me or give any suggestions?
I would appreciate any help.
Thanks!

Changing Passwords

Dec 5, 2000

I have a problem where our developers would like to change the passwords of the SQL Logins without knowing the users old password.

The only way they can use the below syntax is that they must be a member of the SYSAdmin Server Role.

sp_password NULL, 'newpassword',Max

I need a way to allow them to change the passwords without making a user a member of the SYSAdmin Server Role.

Any thoughts would be greatly apprecitated. Thanks in advance.

Encrypt Stored Passwords

Sep 18, 2001

I'm running SQL 70 SP 3 on Nt4.

We store passwords of users of our website. They need to be autenticated and based on that it gives them access to what they are entitled. But its not like NT or server authentication.

This has been setup so that we have a user table and it stores the password. However, it stores it in plain text. Is there any way I can encrypt this field so it is unreadable? Is there a property or a datatype that I can't find? Is there a way to simulate the encryption?

Any ideas or help are appreciated.

Thanks
