I am running a .Net Windows Service hourly which connects to Sybase Link Server thru SQL Server 2000. The service is a threaded application as it spawns 40 threads to connect to Sybase DB's using 'openquery' from SQL stored procs.
After it ran for hours (approx 30 Hrs), the when the service calls SP whcih has got openqeury to Sybase Linked Servers fails. It throws following exception,
"System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: OLE DB provider 'Sybase.ASEOLEDBProvider' reported an error. The provider ran out of memory."
The sybase provider is told to use Out of SQL Server process memory. When the sybase provider runs out of memory, I checked the Available free memory in the machine. It is still 4GB out of 8GB.
Please let me know the reason for the Provider running out of memory often if anybody has faced this issue before.
The version of the Sybase provider in the machine is Sybase.ASEOLEDBProvider 5.0.
I am getting the following error when i try to connect to the my web site using froma different server. A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) i am using sql express and i attach the database through the connection string in the web config. Any ideas
I am in process of transfering data from Sybase to Sql Server using SSIS 2005
have taken a Data Flow Task in Control Flow tab
In Data flow tab, I have taken one Ole DB Source and One OLe DB Destination
For the source, I am using Sybase Adaptive Server Anywhere Provider 8.0
For Destination, I am using Sql Server 2005 database
In Ole Db Source Editor , For OLe Db Connection Manager, I choose Sybase Connection For Data access mode, I choose Table or View For Name of the table or the view, I choose a table by name Table1( it lists all the tables from Sybase database)
When i click on preview button or Columns link, I get the following Error
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.
Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Source [1]]: Unable to retrieve column information from the data source. Make sure your target table in the database is available.
i'm going nuts with SQL server notification thing. I have gone throigh this artical which tells how to set user http://www.codeproject.com/KB/database/SqlDependencyPermissions.aspx. This article show how to create new user and setup for sql server notification. But In my case user was alredy existing in database. which is very common senario in most cases. So i did following( check the SQL script below) but then i get this error "A connection was successfully established with the server, but then an error occurred during the login process. Ive just started getting this on a stable application thats used a datareader on millions of records.
Not sure where to got from here and I can't find anyone else whos getting the failure during the processing.
I could disable shared memory protocol but that seems extreme. I'm on Sql Enterprise 9.00.2047. Maybe the process is hammering the server very hard? Personally I've rarely ever seen SQL be the cause of an error, only user config, bad disks or power issues.
I'm running the app again with SQL Profiler capturing "standard" events.
Just need it to blow up again.
I can run the app on another machine of course and I wouldn't get Shared Memory Provider being used. Maybe I ought to do that as well. At least if the error is not really in the Shared Memory I'd have another avenue to explore.
When I try to install MsSQL Server 2005 Develop Edition do I get the error:
[Microsoft][SQL Native Client]Shared Memory Provider: No process is on the other end of the pipe.
I have trying to look at other posts on this forum and elsewhere, but cant find any solution that works for me - mainly cuz all solutions is after the installing.
Before trying to install MsSQL Server 2005 Dev did I install VS.Net 2005 Pro. First did the Native Client make troubles, but got it to work with reinstalling it, but now does the SQL setup stop on every try with the error above.
I have tried looking if the MSSQLServer is running when it tries to connect during install, and everything says it is running (Services, Net start, Taskman.).
I dont run any special setup on my system - it is a normal Windows XP Pro SP2 with all updates. I just need the SQL server installed so I can develop locally without access to out main SQL server.
I have been using MsSQL 2000 before and never had any problems, but the 2005 keep on bugging me.
The only solution I havent tried is to reinstall Windows itself, but I will pref. not to do so.
And to be honest, then have I no idea what a "pipe" is - I am used to develop webapplications and not so much on server maintaince/troubleshooting.
When running the etl I'm getting the error: <SSIS Task>: Shared Memory Provider: Timeout error [258] ; followed by the message "Communication link failure".
What is special about this message that it happens on a SQL Execute task (random task) and the Timeout is after 2 minutes.
When executing the packages separatly it is working fine. The SQL Tasks that are failing are also quit heavy, but reasonable and takes between >2min and 10 - 15 min. Statements are stored procedures that puts an index on 3 mil. records or update statements,...
I had a look to all my (SSIS-etl)Â timeouts and they have the default value 0, the "remote query timeout" of the server is set to 10 minutes. According to me, these are the only one that exists?
There are 2instances on the server each instance has 24GB allocated, the server has 64 in total. Also when the etl runs (that results in an error) no other etl is running on the 2 instances. I'm working with the oledb sql server native client11.0 provider : SQLNCLI11.1.
We have 4 client machine and 1 server machine, that server have all the sql server 2005 database€™s.
A project developed from client1 with Asp.net 2005 now I need to access that project from client2 so I type http://My Ip address/Folder Name/home.aspx in my browser here when the sql connection is open(SqlConnection.Opn()) then I meet this problem

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. I am getting this error and using this connection string Data Source=192.168.0.100;Network Library=DBMSSOCN;Initial Catalog=ENet;User ID=eonline;Password=eonline; What can be solution for this.
Hi, I am working on VS 2005 and using SQL 2005 Express and i am processing excel files and inserting records in data base as i processing starts and almost after processing 600 i got this error provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server. how can i solve that thanx
Hi, My .NET 2005 application is on a server outsite company's domain. SQL server is in domain and port for sql server is open. TCP/IP is set for remote connection in SQL Server. Connection string in .config is <add name="X_Conn" connectionString="Data Source=XXX;Initial Catalog=XXX;User ID=XX; Password=XXX;" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient"/> I receive the error below: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) thanks a lot in advance!
We just changed the dev environment to sqlagent. From then we were unable to see the reports on the report server because:
An error has occurred during report processing.
Cannot create a connection to data source 'IHRSDataSource'.
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
this error is cropping up.
To Resolve this issue, we checked the Surface Area Configuration and also checked the Reporting Service Configuration . There seem to be no problem and everything looks ok.

I am new to dotnet. I tried connecting to the database MS SQL Server 2000. I gave the code like, the one below, in form load event,
SqlDataReader dr = null;
SqlConnection myConnection = new SqlConnection("Data Source=IP;Initial Catalog=name;User Id=uid;Password=pwd;");
myConnection.Open();
myConnection.Close();
But I could not connect. The error message highlights the line myConnection.Open() and displays the error

It tries connecting to SQL Server 2005. There is no SQL Server 2005 in that system. There is only SQL Server 2000.
I have the aspx code in my local system and the database in another machine.
Could Someone please help me out in solving this problem.
I realised this has been done to death, and so much information out there but I am still in a quandry.
I have had to rebuild my computer.
This is what I did
XP machine using SQL Server 2005 Standard Edition using Windows Authentication NZ6(MSSQLSERVER)
straight default install all the way
unfortunately when ready to run reports from my instance(computer) I received the error as in provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server
thought I had it all okayed but obviously something not right
so ended up unistalling then - did the following:
Load SQL Server from disc1 and start install failed on alter Counter Registry key error fixed this from KB article (known error that can happen) restarted Went to Windows Update check IIS is installed - tick is on - IIS - admin tools - make sure asp2 is associated - yes ok Then back to install sql server - there is no instance set up yet Disk 2 and setup .exe
All ok on Reporting Services, Analysis etc.
But once again all seems fine but still getting the error:
connection is all fine in Management Studio - eg I can see tables etc connection is all fine in Business Intelligence - eg I can preview my reports I then can deploy up to - NZ6 open NZ6 eports report is there fine - but just errors
some simple little tick that I have not done!!
I seem to have checked and rechecked everything and obviously doing another re-install does not seem a logical step from here. I will continue to check but if someone jump in and advise please would be great.
I am creating a web site using Visual Studio 2008 & trying to connect to database on SQL Server 2000. My test connection is successful but while debugging the page I am getting this error : " provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server "
Solutions recommended for this were start running the SQL browser instance and enable Namespipes in Sqlserver configuration manager.Did both.. but nothing worked.
I made a Web page, and it works perfect on my local machine, everything is OK, until I uloaded page to the server, it reports this error:

I am currently on XP x64 and am trying to run a .vbs file, which needs access to an access file when the following error pops up:
"Provider is not specified and there is no designated default provider" error code: 800a0ea9 source: ADODB.Connection
I have tried a bunch of stuff, but so far nothing has worked.
The following code is is question: set AccessDB = CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") AccessDB.Open("DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=" & sMSAccessDBPath)
any help would be appreciated......could I run this with cscript.exe (in the WoW64 folder) in through cmd.exe?
I've just posted mywebsite andthis error keep being trhrown as soon as I access the DB I dont understand what is going on and if I dont get it working bu today will delivery date will expire and I will get in trouble... So anyone knows what is going on It says the following: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Here is my con string : <add name="ASPNETDBConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=p3swhsql-v09.shr.secureserver.net;Initial Catalog=myCatalog;User ID=MyID;Password='Mypassword"/> Thanks a lot
I think this might be a good place to ask the following question.
I am writing the error handling code for my data access layer for a web application. I am using the Enterprise Library Data Access Application Block. Although this supports generic database connections, I realized that I need to handle errors specific to each database type. Microsoft SQL is the only database type I am using for now, so I am using a try...catch (SqlException e).
In testing my code, I intentionally changed the instance name in web.config to a name that does not exist. I get the very popular error 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified. This is returned as a SqlException, but the SqlError.Number property is set to -1.
Am I getting "-1" because the provider hasn't actually connected to SQL yet, so it doesn't have an actual SQL error number? Can I assume that (SqlError.Number == -1) is always a fatal, provider-level connection exception? Will the provider ever use another SqlError.Number of its own? Or do all numbers besides -1 come from the SQL sysmessages table?. Is there a comprehensive list of what exceptions might be raised by the SqlClient provider, including #26?
The reason for all the questions is that in a web application, I want to prevent the end-user from seeing the "real" exception if it has to do with configuration errors. However, maybe there are other errors that the user should see and handle? It's hard to know without a full list of SqlClient provider errors, along with the SqlError.Number that each error maps to.
I am new to SSIS but I am learning fast. Any help is greatly appreciated.
I have written a custom log provider derived from LogProviderBase. I want to programmtically add the custom log provider to my package, but when I try this:
myPackage.LogProviders.Add("ACustomLogProvider");
I get the following exception:
"The log provider type "ACustomLogProvider" specified for log provider "{..GUID..}" is not recognized as a valid log provider type. This error occurs when an attempt is made to create a log provider for unknown log provider type. Verify the spelling in the log provider type name".
I have followed the instructions in BOL and as suggested in this forum, adding the DtsLogProvider attribute:
This also gives me the same exception "The log provider type ""{..the actual GUID for ACustomLogProvider..}" specified for log provider "{..a different GUID..}" is not recognized as a valid log provider type....
My questions are: Is it possible to add a custom log provider programmtically or must it be done through the SSIS Designer?
Must I deploy my custom log provider class for it to work programmatically? (I had perhaps wrongly assumed I would not have to deploy if I don't want it to show up in the SSIS Designer).
I would prefer to use a custom log provider instead of just logging within the SSIS event handlers because I can override the OnPostExecute, etc. but I cannot (can I?) override the specific event handlers like PackageStart, PackageEnd, etc because they are not exposed through DTSEvents.
I have an ODBC connection setup for Oralce RDB. This works fine in say MSAccess. Now I would like to add a SQL Server Linked Server to this ODBC driver (it is for RDB not regular Oracle), but I am not able to get this to work. What is the Provider String and Location / Catalog for using this type of ODBC? I setup DSN as 'name', Provider String as 'UID=user;PWD=pass;' and it seems it tries to connect but gives an error. "%SQL-F-SCHNOTDEF, Schema USER is not defined"
Hi guys, I recently developed a website for one of my client and today client report that i face random error sometime when i access some pages. The complete error description are shown below.A transport-level error has occured when receiving results from the server. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - The specified network name is no longer available. Can any one told me from which reason this error generated and how to resolve it, Client host website on shared hosting plan and uses SQL SERVER 2005 as database management system.Thanks.
I am using OleDbMicrosoft OLE DB Rpovider for Visual FoxPro for my Data Source Connection and it includes the deleted records from the Visual FoxPro database, how can it have it ignore the deleted records?
I try to connect to a SQL Server 2005 Express Edition via IP address. But anytime the application tries to connect to the database here is th error message I receive:
An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: TCP Provider, error: 0 - No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.)
I have enabled the TCP/IP under SQL Server, Under SQL Server Configuration Area, I have chosen the option Local and remote connection: TCP/IP only I have verified that my firewall allows SQL remote and a Local Connection.
Now I don't know where to look or what I have to fix to continue. I will really appreciate if somebody can help me.
i just bought a brand new server and put windows server 2003 x64 sp1 on it then put sql server 2000 sp4 on that and set up a trusted odbc connection. however, it gave me the following error:
Hi I always get good reply from u all, thank you, I have copied my asp.net website from one server to another. they administrator made necessary modification on IIS manager . and able to see the website on browser. but now i can't loging to system using old password. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) Here I have used asp.net login control and membership class. Do I need to make nay changes in code. I have already modified server name in connection string in web config file. any one can say what is the problem and how to solve this. thanks Pat
