Sync Active Directory

Nov 3, 2005

Hi there,

Is it possible to, somehow, get a specific users password from active directory? The reason I ask is that I am writing a new system and really don't want the users having to remember yet another password, but rather be able to use there network password? I would like to write the logon section myself and not use any built in functions that anything may have.

Please can someone advise. I don't think it is possible but have been asked to persue the issue.

Thanks

Active Directory Sync With Stored Procedure

Feb 28, 2006

Hello,I need a permanent synchronization between the "Active Directory" and the UserTable in my WebApp.I think a good solution for my interface can I realize with the "Stored Procedures" in SQL Server 2005. Is this the right way?I can create a Stored Procedure and a AD-Reader separately, that's no problem. But how I can import the "System.DirectoryServices"-Assembly in my Stored Procedure?Or is there an other solution?Thanks a lot!NussyStar*

Error Trying To Import MS Access 2003 Database Via SQL Server Import And Export Wizard - Too Many Sessions Already Active

Nov 29, 2006

I am trying to simplify a query given to me by one of my collegues written using the query designer of Access. Looking at the query there seem to be some syntax differences, so to see if this was the case I thought I would import the database to my SQL Server Developer edition.

I tried to start the wizard from within SQL Server Management Studio Express as shown in one of the articles on MSDN which did not work, but the manual method also suggested did work.

Trouble is that it gets most of the way through the import until it spews forth the following error messages:

- Prepare for Execute (Error)
Messages
Error 0xc0202009: {332B4EB1-AF51-4FFF-A3C9-3AEE594FCB11}: An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80004005.
An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft JET Database Engine" Hresult: 0x80004005 Description: "Could not start session. Too many sessions already active.".
(SQL Server Import and Export Wizard)

Error 0xc004701a: Data Flow Task: component "Source 33 - ATable" (2065) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC020801C.

There does not seem to be any method of specifying a number of sessions, so I don't see how to get round the problem.

Does anyone know how I can get the import to work?

ACTIVE/ACTIVE SQL Server 2000 Cluster

This was my plan.

Physical box - box1,box2
virtual box - virtual1

i have a active/passive cluster virtual1 (primary node box1, secondary box2)

I am creating another virtual box on box2 as primary node by name virtual2)

whenever my installation setup runs my default server name is greyed out. it always requires a instance name.

Is that the way it should work?

i can only use instance for active/active failover?

SQL 2000 Active/active Cluster And Different IP Adresses

Mar 22, 2007

We run several SQL 2000 SP4 instances on IA64 active/active cluster. The OS we run with is Windows Server 2003 SP1. We have different network cards : 2 network cards teamed for production purposes in domain X and 1 network card dedicated for problem solving in domain Y.
First we configured the cluster with only the 2 teamed network cards for production purposes in domain X. Later we introduced the second network card for problem solving in domain Y.
Everything looks fine. The (virtual) SQL instance listens on two different IP adresses on TCP port 1034. If we try to make connection via isql, EM or Query analyzer than we can directly contact the SQL instance from a workstation/server within domain X but this doesn't work form a workstation/server within domain Y. However if we use the specific TCP port in the connection in domain Y the connection is setup. We wish however not to use explicit TCP ports in setting up connections.
Has anyone experienced the same problem before or has anyone an idea how to solve the problem?

SQL 2000 Database Response Hangs After Cluster Failover Only When Active Connections Were Present

Sep 26, 2007

I have a Microsoft Cluster running on Server 2003 Entrprise. SQL 2000 8.00.2039 (SP4). 5gb physical memory installed.

With the databases online we run a test failover from the Cluster administrator. It takes about 30-40 seconds and completes without generating any Server Event log errors nor SQL log errors. Everything looks good from an administrative stand point.

However, when we test with running a series of queries to the databases, then failover, we notice that it can take up to 3 or 4 minutes before some of the databases will respond. Connections are not refused, they just sit there.

How can we troubleshoot this or does anyone have a similiar experience with this scenario?

What's the difference between active/active and active/passive?

Sep 11, 2007

Hi,
I need to import an SQL string from MS Excel 2003 to SQL SERVER 2000.
The string I need to import is composed by 5 different several blocks and looks like:

Code Snippet

CommandLine01 = "USE mydb"
CommandLine02 = "SELECT Block ..."
CommandLine03 = "GO
ALTER TABLE Block...
GO"
CommandLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."
CommandLine05 = "SELECT Block..."

The detail of the SQL string is at:
http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showpost.aspx?postid=2093921&siteid=1&sb=0&d=1&at=7&ft=11&tf=0&pageid=1

I am trying to implement OJ's suggestion:

to use multi - batch processing to import the string to SQL SERVER, something like:

Code Snippet
Dim SqlCnt, cmd1, cmd2, cmd3
'set the properties and open a connection

cmd1="use my_db"
cmd2="create table mytb"
cmd3="insert into mytb"

SqlCnt.execute cmd1
SqlCnt.Execute cmd2
SqlCnt.Execute cmd3

Below is the code (just partial) I have, and I need help to complete it.
Thanks in advance,
Aldo.

Code Snippet
Function TestConnection()
Dim ConnectionString As New ADODB.Connection
Dim RecordSet As New ADODB.RecordSet

ConnectionString = "Driver={SQL Server};Server=myServer;Database=myDBName;Uid=UserName;Pwd=Password"
ConnectionString.Open

CmdLine01 = " USE " & myDB
CmdLine02 = " SELECT ACCOUNTS.FULLNAME FROM ACCOUNTS" ...

CmdLine03 = "GO
ALTER TABLE Block...
GO"

CmdLine04 = "UPDATE Block..."
CmdLine05 = "SELECT Block..."

RecordSet.Open CmdLine01, ConnectionString
RecordSet.Open CmdLine02, ConnectionString

ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine01
ConnectionString.Execute CmdLine02

'Retrieve Field titles
For ColNr = 1 To RecordSet.Fields.Count
ActiveSheet.Cells(1, ColNr).Value = RecordSet.Fields(ColNr - 1).Name
Next

ActiveSheet.Cells(2, 1).CopyFromRecordset RecordSet

'Close ADO objects
RecordSet.Close
ConnectionString.Close
Set RecordSet = Nothing
Set ConnectionString = Nothing

End Function

Win 2003 X64 + SQL 2005 &< Win 2003 32 + SQL 2000?

IDE Drives.Windows Server 2003 (32bit) and SQL Server 2005 (standard).I'm using Cognos' DecisionStream as the ETL tool (32bit). I have theidentical job on both machines. Machine A is slower to do my nightlybuild (1h 20m) vs. Machine B (50m).I've done no tweaking of the databases. I Used SQL 2005's studio tocopy the database from Machine B to Machine A.The only major difference is the O/S and SQL, the machines are samespeed, however Machine A has twice the memory and faster disk; so Iwould expect it to be faster.Can anyone think of smoking guns I might be missing?TIA

Remote Sync -- SQL 2000

Jul 20, 2005

I am just beginning development of a new app and I need a little advice onthe best way to go about doing something.The app is a project management tool for a construction company. Users inthe field will need to do remote updates both receiving and submitting databack to the main office. I can't just make it a live web app because theusers will have to be able to work off line and sync data later (presumablywith a VPN connection).What is the best way to go about this? I planned on using MSDE 2000 w/Accessfront end. I will install MSDE on each laptop but what is the safest/mostreliable way to sync only that information which pertains to a specific useralong with other general information.Any books that helpful with this specific issue? Data Sync Between SQL Server 2000 And SQL Serv

Apr 15, 2008

Hello,

I have SQL Server 2000 and 2005 running on the same server. My current system is in SQL Server 2000 and the new system is in SQL Server 2005. My users will be using SQL Server 2000 for the most part, But for the part the processes that have been migrated to 2005, they will be using SQL Server 2005 as well. The database schema is different on both servers eventhough the data will be similar in most respects.

Is there is a way through which any data that is inserted/updated in SQL Server 2000 via content Management System/ manually/ via a batch job, the data is automatically populated in SQL Server 2005 tables or vice versa?

Please advice at the earliest.

Thanks.

Can't Connect .Net Application From Windows Server 2003 To Database Server (SQL Server 2000)

Apr 3, 2008

Hi,
I am having a problem connecting my .net applications from the application server to the database server. When I run the application from my windows xp (sp2) box it works fine. When I try to connect via SQL Management Studio to the database server from the application server I get the same error.
Here is the error:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server)
 Here is the Environment:
App Server:
Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition
Inside Company's Firewall/ Network
Database Server:
Windows Server 2000 Advanced Edition
SQL Server 2000 SP4
Remote Connections to the Server is checked
Enable Protocols: Named Pipes & TCP/IP
TCP/IP Port: 1402 (I don't know why it isn't the default of 1433)
The db server is sitting out side the Company's firewall (don't ask me why). I can access it fine from inside the firewall on my XP box but not from windows server 2003. There is a web server outside the our network that also connects to the db server with no problem and that is running Windows Server 2003 Web Edition.
I can ping the db server from the app server using the IP address.
I tried using the IP address and the port 1402 in my connection string but that didn't work from any machine (XP and Server).
I imagine the issue is somehow related to the company's firewall but why would it only block Windows Server 2003 and not XP?
What do I tell the network admin to change?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Oran

Best Way To Sync Database.

Feb 20, 2003

hi,

we currently have a web server/db on-site and a similar backup machine across the country. we're using a pretty bad backup strategy. we zip up a backup file, thats done on the main server every night, then ftp over to the back up server then run a restore.

lately ive been having problems with the main server. i would like to have the machines sync'd up as close as possible.

ive searched the threads and noticed replication and log shipping to be the most practical, but im assuming most of the machines are on the same domain.

what would be my best bet for machines connected over the internet, no vpn?

also the db on the main machine get queried/inserts all day from 7am - 6:30pm

thoughts?

thx

Scenario: In general user will take database backup from database server to local system. User perform some changes to his local database based on his requirement. Again user connects to database server and click on update, local database should update to server database by informing each record status to the user. ex: record 1 updated / call closed do you want to update?

Here local database is going to be Pocket pc database and server database is on SQLDatabase. Can any one suggest best way to implement this feature in Windows Pocket pc, c#. I would appreciate your reply.

Searching Active Directory With SQL Server 2000

Nov 3, 2004

I was wondering how exactly one can search the Active Directory with SQL Server 2000. There is all kind of stuff on the Internet about how to connect them and how useful it is to connect them together - plus how you can use Active Directory to query SQL Server, but I`ve never encountered any article where they explain how SQL Server can search the Active Directory.
I`m thinking about how one has their user-database in Active Directory with all users in groups, but only uses groups in SQL Server. How exactly can SQL Server figure out how a user belongs to a group?
Does Active Directory tell SQL Server about that when the user tries to access something from SQL Server, or does SQL Server already knows which group is accessing it as soon as the user authenticates in Active Directory?

2000 Active X Doesn't Work In 2005

I have an active x script written in vb that just counts the records in a table and fails the step if there are not enough records. It is simple and effective. But when I transfered this task to my SSIS package I get a function not found error.

I am not familiar with active x or vb script so I have no idea what is wrong. I can do without while I build the package but I need it in the end to prevent possible problems....

Here is the script...

mySQLCmdText = "Select 'totalcount' = Count(*) from fulltext"

myRecordset.Open mySQLCmdText, myConn

set Flds = myRecordset.Fields

set iRowCount = Flds("totalcount")

If iRowCount.Value < 1000000 then

Sync Database Data Between PCs

Mar 24, 2008

I'm working on an application that will be running on two or more machines. Each machine is logging data to a local SQL Compact database. I would like to make these two computers sync the data with eachother, but I am unsure what the best method is to transfer data between machines in a table format. I think XML would work well, but there may be something easier, so I thought I'd ask. Do I want to use sockets to do this, or is there another type of connection that would work better?

All PCs will know the IP addresses of their peers. I forsee each PC having a server thread that is listening all the time. Each PC also has a client that checks to see if it can connect to the server on the other side. It then requests certain data, which the server part sends. Does this sound right?

The rest of the app is in Visual Basic 2008 Express.

Thanks,
Lance
