Error Incorrect Syntax Near '('. When Doing Update() From Code, VB

Apr 22, 2007

Hi all
My error is as follows: Incorrect syntax near '('.Line 27:         acceptOrDeclineFriendship.UpdateParameters.Add("Response", answer)Line 28:         acceptOrDeclineFriendship.UpdateParameters.Add("FriendID", friend_id)Line 29:         acceptOrDeclineFriendship.Update()Line 30: Line 31:     End Sub
Bear with me... I have a page where i use a repeater control to list users who have requested to be friends with the currently online user. The 'getFriendRequests' query looks like this:
SelectCommand="SELECT * FROM Friends, UserDetails WHERE (Friends.UserID = UserDetails.UserID) AND (FriendID = @UserID) AND (ApprovedByFriend = 'False') ORDER BY Friends.Requested DESC">This works.
Within each repeater template, there are 2 buttons, 'Accept' or 'Decline', like this: <asp:Repeater ID="Repeater1" runat="server" DataSourceID="getFriendRequests">
<ItemTemplate>
(other stuff like avatar and username etc)
<asp:Button ID="accept" runat="server" Text="Accept" commandName="Accept" commandArgument='<%#Eval("UserID")%>' onCommand="Accept_Decline_Friends"/>
<asp:Button ID="decline" runat="server" Text="Decline" commandName="Decline" commandArgument='<%#Eval("UserID")%>' onCommand="Accept_Decline_Friends"/>
</ItemTemplate>
</asp:Repeater>
The code-behind (VB) which deals with this is as follows: Protected Sub Accept_Decline_Friends(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As CommandEventArgs)

'retrieve id of requestee and the answer accept/decline
Dim friend_id As String = e.CommandArgument.ToString
Dim answer As String = e.CommandName.ToString

'add the parameters
acceptOrDeclineFriendship.UpdateParameters.Add("Response", answer)
acceptOrDeclineFriendship.UpdateParameters.Add("FriendID", friend_id)
acceptOrDeclineFriendship.Update()

End Sub
Since the buttons are being created dynamically, this is how i track 1. the response from the currently logged in user 'Accept/Decline' and 2. who they are responding to (by their uniqueid)
This relates to a sqlDataSource on my .aspx page like this: <!---- update query when user has accepted the friendship ---->
<asp:SqlDataSource ID="acceptOrDeclineFriendship" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ xxx %>"
UpdateCommand="UPDATE Friends SET (ApprovedByFriend = @Response) WHERE (FriendID = @UserID) AND (UserID = @FriendID)">
<UpdateParameters>
<asp:ControlParameter Name="UserID" ControlID="userIdValue" />
</UpdateParameters>
</asp:SqlDataSource>
 Which is meant to update my 'Friends' table to show that 'ApprovedByFriend' (the logged in user) is either 'Accept' or 'Decline', and record who's request was responded to.
I hope this is clear, just trying to suppy all of the information! The error appears to be saying that I have an issue with my code-behind, where i am telling the sqlDataSource above to UPDATE. What I can say is that for each button in the repeater, the 2 variables 'friend_id' and 'answer' are picking up the correct values.
Can anyone see any obvious problems here? Any help is very much appreciated as i am well and truley stuck!

SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB Error Has Occurred. Error Code: 0x8000FFFF.

Jan 28, 2008

Hi All,

Recently in an SSIS package I am getting the following error for a particular Data flow task.

Error: 2008-01-25 12:01:48.58

Code: 0xC0202009

Source: Import Datasynapse Data User Events Source [3017]

Description: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x8000FFFF.

End Error

Error: 2008-01-25 12:01:48.73

Code: 0xC004701A

Source: Import Datasynapse Data DTS.Pipeline

Description: component "User Events Source" (3017) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202009.

End Error

Our guess is when the data size of User Events table is more it throws this error. If we try to transfer small subset of data it succeeds. What could be reason for this error?

Since this is very urgent, immediate response would be very much appreciated.

Thanks & Regards,
Prakash Srinivasan

SQL Syntax In ASP.net Code Not Updating

Mar 3, 2008

Hi,
I am trying to build a website in C# for a university project, and am having trouble updating a table from the code (at which I'm not too hot on writing).  I can manage to get the SQL syntax to work in SQL Server 2005, but when I transfer it to the Visual Web Developer page it doesn't update.  Would anyone be able to kindly point out where I am going wrong?  My code (apologies for the amount) is;protected void CalculateEmissionsAndTotal()
{
//Create the ConnectionSqlConnection sqlConn =
new SqlConnection("server=Acer-Laptop\SQLEXPRESS; database=NeuCar; Trusted_Connection=true");
//Open the connection
sqlConn.Open();
//Create the Command, passing in the SQL statement and the ConnectionString queryString = "DECLARE @Today DATETIME SELECT @Today = Current_Timestamp Declare @TotalCharge int DECLARE @EmissionsUrban int DECLARE @EmissionsCountry int SELECT @TotalCharge = ((MemberPayment.MileageUrban * Vehicle.EmissionsPerGramUrban) * 0.05) + ((MemberPayment.MileageCountry * Vehicle.EmissionsPerGramUrban) * 0.05) FROM [NeuCar].[dbo].[MemberPayment] JOIN [NeuCar].[dbo].[Vehicle] ON MemberPayment.Registration = Vehicle.Registration JOIN [NeuCar].[dbo].[Member] ON Vehicle.UserName = Member.UserName WHERE (Member.UserName = @myUserName) AND (MemberPayment.PaymentDate >= DATEADD(dd,-(DAY(DATEADD(mm,-1,@Today))-1),DATEADD(mm,0,@Today))) SELECT @EmissionsUrban = ((MemberPayment.MileageUrban * Vehicle.EmissionsPerGramUrban) * 0.05) FROM [NeuCar].[dbo].[MemberPayment] JOIN [NeuCar].[dbo].[Vehicle] ON MemberPayment.Registration = Vehicle.Registration JOIN [NeuCar].[dbo].[Member] ON Vehicle.UserName = Member.UserName WHERE (Member.UserName = @myUserName) AND (MemberPayment.PaymentDate >= DATEADD(dd,-(DAY(DATEADD(mm,-1,@Today))-1),DATEADD(mm,0,@Today))) SELECT @EmissionsCountry = ((MemberPayment.MileageCountry * Vehicle.EmissionsPerGramCountry) * 0.05) FROM [NeuCar].[dbo].[MemberPayment] JOIN [NeuCar].[dbo].[Vehicle] ON MemberPayment.Registration = Vehicle.Registration JOIN [NeuCar].[dbo].[Member] ON Vehicle.UserName = Member.UserName WHERE (Member.UserName = @myUserName) AND (MemberPayment.PaymentDate >= DATEADD(dd,-(DAY(DATEADD(mm,-1,@Today))-1),DATEADD(mm,0,@Today))) UPDATE MemberPayment SET TotalCharge = @TotalCharge, EmissionsUrban = @EmissionsUrban, EmissionsCountry = @EmissionsCountry WHERE (Registration = @myRegistration); ";
SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(queryString, sqlConn);cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@myUserName", Session["sUserName"]));
cmd.Parameters.Add(new SqlParameter("@myRegistration", Session["sRegistration"]));MileageLabel.Text = "*Update complete";
//Close the connection
sqlConn.Close();
}
I would be very grateful if anybody could help,
Kind regards,

Comment Syntax Breaks Code

May 26, 2000

inserted a record with an identity field
I had a '-- comment' right
Select @data = @@identity

This select failed - @data was NULL
I changed it to SET @data = @@identity
This also failed @data was null

I then change to the follow which worked - Why would the different form of a
comment make a difference? I was the only one in the database, there were no
other changes. I could make the logic block fail or succed by just changing
the comment syntax.

inserted a record with an identity field
I had a '/** comment**/' right
Select @data = @@identity

Getting Server Error Syntax Error Converting The Nvarchar Value 'Sonoma' To A Column Of Data Type Int.

Apr 20, 2007

Hi, all
I'm getting this error at runtime when my page tries to populate a datagrid. Here's the relevant code.
First, the user selects his choice from a dropdownlist, populated with a sqldatasource control on the aspx side:<asp:SqlDataSource ID="sqlDataSourceCompany" runat="server" ConnectionString="<%$ ConnectionStrings:ConnectionString %>"
SelectCommand="SELECT [PayrollCompanyID], [DisplayName] FROM [rsrc_PayrollCompany] ORDER BY [DisplayName]">
</asp:SqlDataSource>
 And the dropdown list's code:<asp:DropDownList ID="ddlPayrollCompany" runat="server" AutoPostBack="True" DataSourceID="sqlDataSourcePayrollCompany"
DataTextField="DisplayName" DataValueField="PayrollCompanyID">
</asp:DropDownList>
Then, I use the selectedindexchanged event to bind the data to the datagrid. Here's that code:
 1 Sub BindData()
2
3 Dim ds As New DataSet
4 Dim sda As SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter
5 Dim strSQL As String
6 Dim strCon As String
7
8 strSQL = "SELECT [SocialSecurityNumber], [Prefix], [FirstName], [LastName], [HireDate], [PayrollCostPercent], " & _
9 "[Phone], [BadgeNumber], [IsSupervisor], [SupervisorID], [IsUser], [IsScout] FROM [rsrc_Personnel] " & _
10 "WHERE ([PayrollCompanyID] = @PayrollCompanyID)"
11
12 strCon = "Data Source=DATASOURCE;Initial Catalog=DATABASE;User ID=USERID;Password=PASSWORD"
13
14 sda = New SqlClient.SqlDataAdapter(strSQL, strCon)
15
16 sda.SelectCommand.Parameters.Add(New SqlClient.SqlParameter("@PayrollCompanyID", Me.ddlPayrollCompany.SelectedItem.ToString()))
17
18 sda.Fill(ds, "rsrc_Personnel")
19
20 dgPersonnel.DataSource = ds.Tables("rsrc_Personnel")
21 dgPersonnel.DataBind()
22
23 End Sub
24

I'm assuming my problem lies in line 16 of the above code. I've tried SelectedItemIndex, SelectedItemValue too and get errors for those, as well.
What am I missing?
Thanks for anyone's help!

Execute SQL Task: Executing The Query Exec (?) Failed With The Following Error: Syntax Error Or Access Violation. Possible F

Jan 23, 2008

Hi,
I'm having an SSIS package which gives the following error when executed :

Error: 0xC002F210 at Create Linked Server, Execute SQL Task: Executing the query "exec (?)" failed with the following error: "Syntax error or access violation". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly.Task failed: Create Linked Server

The package has a single Execute SQL task with the properties listed below :

General Properties
Result Set : None

ConnectionType : OLEDB
Connection : Connected to a Local Database (DB1)
SQLSourceType : Direct Input
SQL Statement : exec(?)
IsQueryStorePro : False
BypassPrepare : False

Parameter Mapping Properties

variableName Direction DataType ParameterName

User::AddLinkSql Input Varchar 0

'AddLinkSql' is a global variable of package scope of type string with the value
Exec sp_AddLinkedServer 'Srv1','','SQLOLEDB.1',@DataSrc='localhost',@catalog ='DB1'

When I try to execute the Query task, it fails with the above error. Also, the above the sql statement cannot be parsed and gives error "The query failed to parse. Syntax or access violation"

I would like to add that the above package was migrated from DTS, where it runs without any error, eventhough
it gives the same parse error message.

I would appreciate if anybody can help me out of this issue by suggeting where the problem is.

Thanks in Advance.

Alter Table Syntax Error - Anyone Sees The Error?

Nov 24, 2004

Hello,

the following alter table statement:

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[CalCalendar]
ALTER COLUMN [OID] uniqueidentifier NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY NONCLUSTERED

is answered with:

Server: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Line 2
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'PRIMARY'.

which I consider to be interesting. Anyone has an idea why? I checked documentation but I do not see an error.

Note that:

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[CalCalendar]
ALTER COLUMN [OID] uniqueidentifier NOT NULL

DOES get executed, and

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[CalCalendar]
ALTER COLUMN [OID] uniqueidentifier NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY

produces the same error.

Now, in my understanding this has nothing to do with an index may already exist etc. - the eror indicates a SYNTAX error, before any checking. Makes no sense to me, though, reading the documentation.

So - anyone an idea?

Error: The ProcessInput Method On Component OLE DB Destination (513) Failed With Error Code 0xC0202009

Mar 22, 2007

I'm trying to create a simple Data transfermation. I have a flat file that came of a unix server.. it's 177 bytes wide.. thought it was 175, but when I created the flat file connector, I could see some extra characters on the end.

My output is going to be an excel spreadsheet, I only want two columns from the input. I created an oledb jet 4.0 connection. and followed instructions from here :

http://aspalliance.com/889_Extracting_Data_from_a_Flat_File_with_SQL_Server_2005_Integration_Services

to create my datafow.

On my first attempt to dataflow, I ran into unicode errors and had to do this:

ran into a problem with unicode errors. went to the source for the flat file. for the output column in question changed to Unicode string [DT_WSTR].

When I run , here are the errors I get:

SQL 2000 Reovery Fails Sometimes. Error Code (Error 3136). How To Make Database Write Mode?

Jan 7, 2008

Hello,

I am applying hourly differential backup to the backup server from production with the following command. This command makes the database on standby server into read only mode.

RESTORE DATABASE ARSYSTEM FROM DISK = 'E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup'
WITH MOVE 'arsystem' TO
'd:ardataarsystem.mdf' ,
MOVE 'arsystem_log' TO 'D:ARLOGARsystem' ,
STANDBY = 'E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up'

Now I want to run a command which will put the database in write mode. I have created a job which would make the datbase Write mode. This job runs successfully sometimes and fails sometimes. I need to ensure that the job always succeeds. When it fails, how do I troubleshoot and what is the possible fix?

Thanks in advance.

The error message is

Cannot apply the backup on device 'E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up' to database 'ARSYSTEM'. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3136) RESTORE DATABASE is terminating abnormally. [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 3013). The step failed.

The steps for the job are as follows with the failing step highlighted in bold.

copy /y "\172.31.9.12Remedy BackupackupSQL backupsql_full_backup" "E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup"

copy /y "\172.31.9.12Remedy BackupackupSQL backupSQL daily diff back up" "E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up"

xp_cmdshell 'net stop "bmc remedy action request system server"'

exec rp_kill_db_processes 'ARSYSTEM'

RESTORE DATABASE ARSYSTEM

FROM DISK = 'E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup'

WITH

MOVE 'arsystem' TO 'd:ardataarsystem.mdf' ,

MOVE 'arsystem_log' TO 'D:ARLOGARsystem' ,

NORECOVERY

Failing step

RESTORE DATABASE ARSYSTEM

FROM DISK = 'E:SQL backup from productionSQL daily diff back up'

WITH

MOVE 'arsystem' TO 'd:ardataarsystem.mdf' ,

MOVE 'arsystem_log' TO 'D:ARLOGARsystem' ,

xp_cmdshell 'del /f "E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup"'

xp_cmdshell 'del /f "E:SQL backup from productionsql daily diff back up"'

xp_cmdshell 'net start "bmc remedy action request system server"'

I have scheduled the following hourly diffential restore job too which never fails.

RESTORE DATABASE ARSYSTEM FROM DISK = 'E:SQL backup from productionsql_full_backup'
WITH MOVE 'arsystem' TO
'd:ardataarsystem.mdf' ,
MOVE 'arsystem_log' TO 'D:ARLOGARsystem' ,

ProjectDb is the database that i have setup in sql.

SQL Syntax Error

Apr 7, 2007

Hi Guys, I'm hoping somebody can help me with this really frustrating problem that I'm having.......
 I'm developing a peer to peer file sharing application (final year degree project) in which I use a web service & sql database as the management server. For some strange reason, I'm getting an SQL syntax error on some machines but not on others when I call the method to submit a file list to the server (see below for code for the method). Another strange thing is that on different machines, I'm getting a different error. I've seen "incorrect syntax near 'd' ". and also "incorrect syntax near 've' ", while on two other machines it works just fine - It appears that the connection to the webservice and to the database is working just fine on all machines as before this method I have a login which works perfectly and the data is represented in the database.
Does anybody have any pointers or even the slighest idea what can cause an error like this or have seen anything like this before. Hoping to get this sorted pretty soon as the deadline is nearing. All and any help is very much appreciated!!!!
Kevin
public void submitFiles(FileObject[] files, string peerID)
