System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Syntax Error In INSERT INTO Statement.

May 3, 2007

Hi All
 I'm having a bit of trouble with an sql statement being inserted into a database - here is the statement:
  string sql1;
sql1 = "INSERT into Customer (Title, FirstName, FamilyName, Number, Road, Town,";
sql1 += " Postcode, Phone, DateOfBirth, email, PaymentAcctNo)";
sql1 += " VALUES (";
sql1 += "'" + TxtTitle.Text + "'," ;
sql1 += "'" + TxtForename.Text + "'," ;
sql1 += "'" + TxtSurname.Text + "'," ;
sql1 += "'" + TxtHouseNo.Text + "',";
sql1 += "'" + TxtRoad.Text + "',";
sql1 += "'" + TxtTown.Text + "',";
sql1 += "'" + TxtPostcode.Text + "',";
sql1 += "'" + TxtPhone.Text + "',";
sql1 += "'" + TxtDob.Text + "',";
sql1 += "'" + TxtEmail.Text + "',";
sql1 += "'" + TxtPayAcc.Text + "')";
 Which generates a statement like:
INSERT into Customer (Title, FirstName, FamilyName,
Number, Road, Town, Postcode, Phone, DateOfBirth, email, PaymentAcctNo) VALUES ('Mr','Test','Test','129','Test Road','Plymouth','PL5
1LL','07855786111','14/04/1930','mr@test.com','123456')
 I cannot for the life of me figure out what is wrong with this statement. I've ensured all the fields within the database have no validation (this is done within my ASP code) that would stop this statement being inserted.

Line 158: dbCommand.Connection = conn;
Line 159: conn.Open();
Line 160: dbCommand.ExecuteNonQuery();Is the line that brings up the error - I presume this could be either an error in the statement or maybe some settings on the Database stopping the values being added. Any ideas which of this might be ? I'm not looking for someone to solve this for me, just a push in the right direction!
 Thanks!

System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Timeout Expired Solution

May 4, 2007

Dear All,
I have a page on the web site that will upload a CVS fiile.  Then, it will read the file, and insert the data to the sql database.  (around 14,000 records)
I'm not sure why, it seems like whenever we do the upload/insertion for the first time, it will always return this timeout error.
System.Web.HttpUnhandledException: Exception of type System.Web.HttpUnhandledException was thrown. ---> System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Timeout expired
After I got this error, and do the upload again.  Then the upload will work fine.
So I wonder is it when I got the timeout error, will the SQL server clean up its used resources or something, so my function will work the next time?
Or any recommendation on this issue?
 Thank you very much.

Syntax Error On Insert Statement

Jan 11, 2007

Ok, the following four lines are four lines of code that I'm running, I'll post the code and then explain my issue:
&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; sqlCommand = New SQLCommand("INSERT INTO Bulk (Bulk_Run, Bulk_Totes, Bulk_Drums, Bulk_Boxes, Bulk_Bags, Bulk_Bins, Bulk_Crates) VALUES (" &amp; RunList(x,0) &amp; ", " &amp; Totes &amp; ", " &amp; Drums &amp; ", " &amp; Boxes &amp; ", " &amp; Bags &amp; ", " &amp; Bins &amp; ", " &amp; Crates &amp; ")", Connection)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; sqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; sqlCommand = New SQLCommand("INSERT INTO Presort (Presort_Run, Presort_Totes, Presort_Drums, Presort_Boxes, Presort_Bags, Presort_Bins, Presort_Crates) VALUES (" &amp; RunList(x,0) &amp; ", " &amp; Totes &amp; ", " &amp; Drums &amp; ", " &amp; Boxes &amp; ", " &amp; Bags &amp; ", " &amp; Bins &amp; ", " &amp; Crates &amp; ")", Connection)&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; sqlCommand.ExecuteNonQuery()
The two tables (Bulk & Presort) are <b>exactly</b> the same.  This includes columns, primary keys, IDs, and even permissions.  If I run the last two liens (the INSERT INTO Presort) then it works fine without error.  But whenever I run the first two lines (the INSERT INTO Bulk) I get the following error:
Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'Bulk'.
Anyone have any ideas, thanks

Cannot INSERT Data To 3 Tables Linked With Relationship (INSERT Statement Conflicted With The FOREIGN KEY Constraint Error)

Hello
 I have a problem with setting relations properly when inserting data using adonet. Already have searched for a solutions, still not finding a mistake...
Here's the sql management studio diagram :

 and here goes the  code1 DataSet ds = new DataSet();
2
3 SqlDataAdapter myCommand1 = new SqlDataAdapter("select * from SurveyTemplate", myConnection);
4 SqlCommandBuilder cb = new SqlCommandBuilder(myCommand1);
5 myCommand1.FillSchema(ds, SchemaType.Source);
6 DataTable pTable = ds.Tables["Table"];
7 pTable.TableName = "SurveyTemplate";
8 myCommand1.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand();
9 myCommand1.InsertCommand.Connection = myConnection;
10
11 SqlDataAdapter myCommand2 = new SqlDataAdapter("select * from Question", myConnection);
12 cb = new SqlCommandBuilder(myCommand2);
13 myCommand2.FillSchema(ds, SchemaType.Source);
14 pTable = ds.Tables["Table"];
15 pTable.TableName = "Question";
16 myCommand2.InsertCommand = cb.GetInsertCommand();

26
27 ds.Relations.Add(new DataRelation("FK_Question_SurveyTemplate", ds.Tables["SurveyTemplate"].Columns["id"], ds.Tables["Question"].Columns["surveyTemplateID"]));
28 ds.Relations.Add(new DataRelation("FK_Possible_Answer_Question", ds.Tables["Question"].Columns["id"], ds.Tables["Possible_Answer"].Columns["questionID"]));

Execute SQL Insert Statement From Script Task Using Package OLEDB Connection

Aug 1, 2007

Is there a way to directly do this in one step(Execute SQL Insert Statement from Script Task using package OLEDB Connection)?

Right now I'm using a script task to build a sql insert statement using package variables (to fill values) populated by certain logic in the package.

Then assigning this command string to a package variable.
Then using a sql execute task to execute this variable.

A link to an article or code would be greatly appreciated.

The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' Provider Is Not Registered On The Local Machine. (System.Data)

Oct 25, 2007

I am on an XP Pro 32-bit laptop, running SQL Server 2005 Developer Edition. I want to import an Excel spreadsheet into one of my databases using (formerly known as) DTS. The Excel spreadsheet was created in 2003 (I have Office 2007 installed on this laptop). Whenever I try and do any OleDb import, I get the error:

TITLE: SQL Server Import and Export Wizard
------------------------------
The operation could not be completed.
------------------------------
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0' provider is not registered on the local machine. (System.Data)
------------------------------
BUTTONS:
OK
------------------------------

I cannot install/reinstall MDAC because I have the latest version. What else can I try?

As additional information, I also get the error when trying to import anything into or export anything out of Access 2007. I'm pretty sure MDAC is awful, but I still need OleDb providers for much of the work I am doing.

IIF Statement Has Syntax Error...please Help...

May 20, 2008

I am trying to figure out the syntax for the following:

=iif(fields!ExtTripCount.value = 1,sum(Fields!ExtTripCount.value),0) / (count(fields!SvcCallNumber.value))* 100

I am trying to take all the trips that equal a one and divide them by the total number of service calls and then multiple them by 100 to get the percentage.

I am receiving the following errror: "The value expression refers to the field 'SvcCallNumber'. Report item expressions can only refer to fields within the current dta set scope or, if inside an aggregate, the specified data set scope...

Web Form OleDbException (0x80004005): Disk Or Network Error.]

Sep 25, 2006

Hi Everyone,

Hope you don€™t mind helping.

I am actually following exactly the example given in Karl Moore€™s €˜The Ultimate VB.net and ASP.net Code Book€™, ISBN 1-59059-106-2, Chapter 4, pp 141€¦

I am using VB.Net 2002 and create a Web Form, placing on it a Data Adapter, Connector and Dataset and link this to a Data Grid. The database is a quite large (150 Mb) Access 97 db that is shared over a network and the Provider is a Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0 connection. While in designer mode I can create the Dataset and even preview the data itself from the menu. When I run the project, the Web Form displays, connects to the Site (via IIS 5.1) but then the following error text is thrown all over the form:

Server Error in '/WebApplication3' Application.

Disk or network error.
Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code.

Exception Details: System.Data.OleDb.OleDbException: Disk or network error.

Source Error:

An unhandled exception was generated during the execution of the current web request. Information regarding the origin and location of the exception can be identified using the exception stack trace below.

Stack Trace:

[OleDbException (0x80004005): Disk or network error.] System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.ProcessResults(Int32 hr) System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.InitializeProvider() System.Data.OleDb.OleDbConnection.Open() System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.QuietOpen(IDbConnection connection, ConnectionState& originalState) System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.FillFromCommand(Object data, Int32 startRecord, Int32 maxRecords, String srcTable, IDbCommand command, CommandBehavior behavior) System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet, Int32 startRecord, Int32 maxRecords, String srcTable, IDbCommand command, CommandBehavior behavior) System.Data.Common.DbDataAdapter.Fill(DataSet dataSet) WebApplication3.WebForm1.Page_Load(Object sender, EventArgs e) System.Web.UI.Control.OnLoad(EventArgs e) System.Web.UI.Control.LoadRecursive() System.Web.UI.Page.ProcessRequestMain()

Version Information: Microsoft .NET Framework Version:1.1.4322.2032; ASP.NET Version:1.1.4322.2032

I have read and implemented the articles in the KB about setting up System TEMP variables and changing their rights and also setting up the ODBC key in the registry but these make no difference however I change them. I have also tried copying the database to the local machine, again to no avail.

The versions of the system I am using are:

Microsoft Visual Basic .NET 55524-640-5065381-18871
Microsoft Visual Studio .NET 2002 Service Pack 1 (KB837234)
Microsoft Developer Environment 2002 7.0.9955

I have no idea why what should be a very simple thing just fails so catastrophically. I am tempted to move to VB 2005 but if anyone can shed light on the problem I should be most grateful.

Many thanks for your time and Energy.

System.Security.SecurityException: Request For The Permission Of Type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data

Aug 21, 2006

I have created a windows library control that accesses a local sql database

I tried the following strings for connecting

Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TimeSheet;Trusted_Connection = true"

Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TimeSheet;Integrated Security=SSPI"

I am not running the webpage in a virtual directory but in

C:Inetpubwwwrootusercontrol

and I have a simple index.html that tries to read from an sql db but throws

the error

System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

The type of the first permission that failed was:

I looked into the .net config utility but it says unrestricted and I tried adding it to the trusted internet zones in ie options security

I think that a windows form connecting to a sql database running in a webpage should be simple

to configure what am I missing?

Incorrect Syntax Near The Keyword 'EXEC' (Dynamic Sql Statement Error)

Nov 1, 2007

Following is the stored procedure iam trying to create.Here i am trying to

First create a table with the table name passed as parameter
Second I am executing a dynamic sql statement ("SELECT @sql= 'Select * from table") that returns some rows.
Third I want to save the rows returned by the dynamic sql statement ("SELECT @sql= 'Select * from table") in the tablei created above.All the columns and datatypes are matching.

This table would be further used with cursor.
Now i am getting a syntax error on the last line.Though i doubt whether the last 3 lines will execute properly.Infact how to execute a sp_executesql procedure in another dynamic sql statement.ANy suggestions will be appreciated.

Case Statement Error In An Insert Statement

May 26, 2006

Hi All,
I've looked through the forum hoping I'm not the only one with this issue but alas, I have found nothing so I'm hoping someone out there will give me some assistance.
My problem is the case statement in my Insert Statement. My overall goal is to insert records from one table to another. But I need to be able to assign a specific value to the incoming data and thought the case statement would be the best way of doing it. I must be doing something wrong but I can't seem to see it.

Here is my code:
Insert into myTblA
(TblA_ID,
mycasefield =
case
when mycasefield = 1 then 99861
when mycasefield = 2 then 99862
when mycasefield = 3 then 99863
when mycasefield = 4 then 99864
when mycasefield = 5 then 99865
when mycasefield = 6 then 99866
when mycasefield = 7 then 99867
when mycasefield = 8 then 99868
when mycasefield = 9 then 99855
when mycasefield = 10 then 99839
end,
alt_min,
alt_max,
longitude,
latitude
(
Select MTB.LocationID
MTB.model_ID
MTB.elevation, --alt min
null, --alt max
MTB.longitude, --longitude
MTB.latitude --latitude
from MyTblB MTB
);

The error I'm getting is:
Incorrect syntax near '='.

I have tried various versions of the case statement based on examples I have found but nothing works.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance with this one. I've been smacking my head against the wall for awhile trying to find a solution.
