System.Security.SecurityException: That Assembly Does Not Allow Partially Trusted Callers

Jan 4, 2008

I have successfully compiled & deployed the custom security extension. Currently I am having some runtime error when using the added Membership.Data.dll for authentication & authorization.

Membership.Data.dll
* signed with a strong name key
* [assembly: AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers] is added
* it uses Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.dll for database connection

I have also added connectionstring to web.config(s) under ReportManager and ReportServer.

Here is the exception:

System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.Security.SecurityException: That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers. at System.Security.CodeAccessSecurityEngine.ThrowSecurityException(Assembly asm, PermissionSet granted, PermissionSet refused, RuntimeMethodHandle rmh, SecurityAction action, Object demand, IPermission permThatFailed) at Membership.Data.DataProvider.Acquire(String DatabaseName) at Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.CustomSecurity.AuthenticationUtilities.VerifyPassword(String suppliedUserName, String suppliedPassword) in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90SamplesReporting ServicesExtension SamplesFormsAuthentication SamplecsFormsAuthenticationAuthenticationUtilities.cs:line 116 at Microsoft.Samples.ReportingServices.CustomSecurity.AuthenticationExtension.LogonUser(String userName, String password, String authority) in C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server90SamplesReporting ServicesExtension SamplesFormsAuthentication SamplecsFormsAuthenticationAuthenticationExtension.cs:line 70 at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.RSCustomAuthentication.LogonUser(String userName, String password, String authority) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2005Impl.LogonUser(String userName, String password, String authority) at Microsoft.ReportingServices.WebServer.ReportingService2005.LogonUser(String userName, String password, String authority) The action that failed was: LinkDemand The assembly or AppDomain that failed was: Membership.Data, Version=1.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=<key>The method that caused the failure was: Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.Database CreateDatabase(System.String) The Zone of the assembly that failed was: MyComputer The Url of the assembly that failed was: file:///c:/Program Files/Microsoft SQL Server/MSSQL.4/Reporting Services/ReportServer/bin/Membership.Data.DLL --- End of inner exception stack trace ---

Any ideas? I assume that Microsoft.Practices.EnterpriseLibrary.Data.dll is in GAC so i shouldn't have to worry about [AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers]

That Assembly Does Not Allow Partially Trusted Callers.

May 25, 2006

I have a report that references a custom assembly. The assembly loads an xml file from a web site in the code OnInit. The reports designer the code runs fine, because it is called with full trust. I deployed the report to our test sever, and copied the two dll files to c:Program FileMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesReportServicein. I have added the following to the rssrvpolicy file.

<PermissionSet class="NamedPermissionSet"
version="1"
Name="LexLibrary"
Description="Used by reports to access the Lex Library">
<IPermission class="SecurityPermission"
version="1"
Flags="Assertion, Execution "/>
<IPermission class="WebPermission"
version="1">
<ConnectAccess>
<URI uri="http://lcserver3/lex/boe.xml"/>
</ConnectAccess>
</IPermission>
</PermissionSet>

AND

<CodeGroup class="UnionCodeGroup"
version="1"
PermissionSetName="LexLibrary"
Name="LexLibrary"
Description="LexLibrary">
<IMembershipCondition class="UrlMembershipCondition"
version="1"
Url="C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesReportServerinLexLibrary.dll"/>
</CodeGroup>

When I try to run the report on the server I get €œAn error occurred while executing OnInit: That assembly does not allow partially trusted callers. (rsErrorInOnInit) €œ
Can anyone see what I€™m missing?

System.Security.SecurityException: Request For The Permission Of Type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data

Aug 21, 2006

I have created a windows library control that accesses a local sql database

I tried the following strings for connecting

Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TimeSheet;Trusted_Connection = true"

Dim connectionString As String = "Data Source=localhostSQLEXPRESS;Initial Catalog=TimeSheet;Integrated Security=SSPI"

I am not running the webpage in a virtual directory but in

C:Inetpubwwwrootusercontrol

and I have a simple index.html that tries to read from an sql db but throws

the error

System.Security.SecurityException: Request for the permission of type 'System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission, System.Data, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

etc etc

The action that failed was:
Demand
The type of the first permission that failed was:
System.Data.SqlClient.SqlClientPermission
The Zone of the assembly that failed was:

I looked into the .net config utility but it says unrestricted and I tried adding it to the trusted internet zones in ie options security

I think that a windows form connecting to a sql database running in a webpage should be simple

to configure what am I missing?

Custom Assembly SecurityException

Feb 26, 2008

Hi,

I'm trying to do something rather weird, but I really need it. I'm trying to launch a SSIS package from a report

I built a custom assembly with one method that loads a package from file and then executes it. The assembly works fine.

I added the custom assembly to the report properties, instantiated the class in the assembly (the method is not static), called the method from the report (a textbox renders the string return value from the method).

I added the

Code Snippet[assembly: System.Security.AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers]
attribute to the AssemblyInfo.cs file

Created the strong name for the assembly.

Got the PublicKeyBlob with ILDASM, used it to add a new CodeGroup with the "StrongNameMembershipCondition" in the policy configuration files of ReportDesigner (RSPreviewPolicy.config), ReportServer (rssrvpolicy.config) and ReportManager (rsmgrpolicy.config).

Copied the dll in the bin folders of ReportServer and Visual Studio PrivateAssemblies.

I keep getting the awfull #Error message on the report when viewing it from ReportManager or ReportServer (in preview mode in VisualStudio all is well because security is not applied to user code).

I tried debugging:
- created a solution with two subprojects, one is the report, the other one is the assembly
- marked the report as the Startup Item
I get a SecurityException in debug and debuglocal modes when I try to instantiate a SSIS package.

Code SnippetPackage = new Package();

While digging in the exception call stack, it turns out I lack a permission for accessing unmanaged code (the source assembly of the exception is mscorlib). Also in the ouput window, while starting debugging i see a lot of SystemArgument exceptions in mscorlib.

I am perfectly aware that in order to be able to launch a SSIS package from code I referenced Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsRuntimeWrap.dll, so in desperation I added another CodeGroup in the aforementioned config files for this dll (StrongNameMembershipCondition) and copied the assembly in the deployment folders.

1: I would really like to know how to get the whole thing working. I find rather strange that even though I set the FullTrust

PermissionSet for my assembly (and the Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsRuntimeWrap assembly) I keep getting security exceptions.

While exploring the web for help I saw I need to assert all individual permissions for every restricted resource I'm accessing in the custom assembly, problem is I don't know exactly which ones I'm accessing and, being new to .NET security, I don't know how.

Surely I need to assert a file IO permission to load the package from file, a sqlclientpermission if I am accessing SqlServer in the package, and perhaps a unmanagedcode permission, given the the exception I described earlier (perhaps the Microsoft.SqlServer.DtsRuntimeWrap assembly is not managed code or is accessing some other unmanaged assembly).

Again, I wouldn't know how.

...and last

2: I tried modifying the assembly to only load a string from a file.. I had some problems with security but I got it working once, but I haven't figured out how exactly 'cause when fiddling around to understand things, I lost the working configuration. Really stupid, I know....
While testing this version of the assembly I followed an advice I found on some blog and restarted IIS and Reporting Services system service..

Is this always necessary after modifying the assembly source ? Do I need to restart every time both IIS AND Reporting Services

I would really appreciate every bit of help or advice anyone has to offer.

Thanks in advance.

Creating A System.Management Assembly In Order For My Own Assembly To Work?

Aug 2, 2006

Hi

I am a bit paranoid about what I just did to my SQL Server 2005 with this CLR experiment.

I created a Class Lib in C# called inLineLib that has a class Queue which represents an object with an ID field.

in another separate namespace called inLineCLRsql, I created a class called test which will hold the function to be accessed from DB, I referenced and created an instances of the Queue class, and retrieve it's ID in a function called PrintMessage.

namespace inlineCLRsql{

public static class test{

public static void PrintMessage(){

inLineLib.Queue q = new inLineLib.Queue();

int i = q.queueId ;

Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlContext.Pipe.Send(i.ToString());

}

}

}

to access this from the db, I attempted to create an assembley referencing inLineCLRsql.dll. This didn't work as it complained about inLineLib assembly not existing in the db. I then attempted to create an assembley for inLineLib but it barfed saying System.Management assembly not created.

so what I did is (and this is where I need to know if I just ruined sql server or not):

1- ALTER DATABASE myDB SET TRUSTWORTHY ON;.

2- CREATE ASSEMBLY SystemManagement

FROM 'C:WINDOWSMicrosoft.NETFrameworkv2.0.50727System.Management.dll'

WITH PERMISSION_SET = UNSAFE

3- CREATE ASSEMBLY inLineLibMaster

FROM 'D:inLineServerinLineLibinDebuginLineLib.dll'

WITH PERMISSION_SET = unsafe

4- and finally

CREATE ASSEMBLY inLineLib

FROM 'D:inLineServerCLRSQLinlineCLRsqlinDebuginlineCLRsql.dll'

WITH PERMISSION_SET = SAFE

Everything works after those steps (which took some trial and error). I can create a sproc like:

CREATE PROC sp_test AS

EXTERNAL NAME inLineLib.[inlineCLRsql.test].PrintMessage

and it returns the Queue ID

Is there anything unadvisable about the steps above?

Thanks for your help

Trusted Security In A Workgroup

Jan 17, 2007

Good afternoon,so here is a question I've been struggling with that I thought folks onthe forum might have some wisdom kicking around on. I have severalproduction servers that are living within a workgroup where there is nodomain controler. However, I would still like to set up trustedsecurity for my asp.net applications. IIS is living on one server, andSQL server on another. Is there a way I can add a trusted relationshipto the machine and account that the IIS app is running under?My thanks in advance!Jonathan Wiggs*** Sent via Developersdex http://www.developersdex.com ***

Custom Assembly Security

Oct 3, 2007

Hello Everyone,

When I run my report from report manager, I get the following error message

Failed to load expression host assembly. Details: Request for the permission of type 'System.Security.Permissions.FileIOPermission, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089' failed.

My report uses a custom assembly. I have already done the following

1. copied the assembly in the "reportserverin" and the "common 7privateassemblies" area
2. Made the following entry in the rssrvpolicy.config

<CodeGroup
class="UnionCodeGroup"

<IMembershipCondition
class="UrlMembershipCondition"
version="1"
Url="C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.5Reporting ServicesReportServerinAMOTest.dll"
/>
</CodeGroup>

3. Added the following line to my assemblyinfo.cs file

[assembly: AllowPartiallyTrustedCallers]

IIS Access To SQL Server With Trusted Security

Dec 7, 2000

Does anyone know of a component or other mini application that can be run on the IIS server and allow IIS to access SQL Server 7 databases using Trusted Security.

Our security unit has required us to run SQL Server with Trusted Security so changing to Mixed mode is not an option. We are also not allowed to use Basic Authentication for Active Server Pages with IIS. IIS and SQL server are also on different machines.

We are looking into the possibility of trying to create a component that would run on the IIS machine to allow us to use Trusted Security to the SQL Server (in effect try to make it work the same way that the Cold Fusion product does).

Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

Trusted Connection Security Breach?

Apr 17, 2002

I have a user who has some ODBC connections that use SQL Authentication (through a generic id)to connect to SQL Server that work fine. What worries me is the user can access the same SQL Server throught NT authentication and connect through QA, EM (registering a server) or ODBC, even though she is not listed in the security of that SQL Server as a SQL user or and NT user. Worse is that she seems to have full rights to the server. I had her log in on another box and the same thing happened. I am on SQL 2000 SP1. Anyone have any ideas to is it time to call MS?

How To Deploy Assembly From Remote System, Without Using VS.NET

Dec 30, 2006

Hi

 I'm developing a tool to deploy the CLR objects from any where to the server

But I'm unable to deploy from remote system to the server.

I'm getting the error like

CREATE ASSEMBLY failed because it could not open the physical file 'D:WorkingDBS2005V2GLGLREPORTSDBS.GL.RM.SQLinDebugsample.dll': 3(The system cannot find the path specified.).

when I try to deploy using

FROM ''D:WorkingDBS2005V2GLGLREPORTSDBS.GL.RM.SQLinDebugsample.dll''

WITH PERMISSION_SET = SAFE'

can anybody tell how to generate assembly_bits for assembly

the VS.NEt is generating assembly bits instead of physical path to deploy the assembly on the remote server.

as

Current Security Context Not Trusted When Using Linked Server From SAP

Dec 31, 2006

Hello,

I am experiencing a head-scratcher of a problem when trying to use a Linked Server connection to query a remote SQL Server database from our SAP R/3 system. We have had this working just fine for some time, but after migrating to new hardware and upgrading OS, DBMS, and R/3, now we are running into problems.

The target database is a named instance on SQL Server 2000 SP3, Windows 2000 Server. The original source R/3 system was also on SQL Server 2000 (SP4), Windows 2000 Server. I had been using a Linked Server defined via SQL Enterprise Manager (actually defined when the source was on SQL Server 7), which called an alias defined with the Client Network Utility that pointed to the remote named instance. This alias and Linked Server worked great for several years.

Now we have migrated our R/3 system onto new hardware, running Windows Server 2003 SP1 and SQL Server 2005 SP1. I redefined the Linked Server on the new SQL 2005 installation, this time avoiding the alias and referencing the remote named instance directly, and it tests out just fine using queries from SQL Management Studio. It also tests fine with OSQL called from the R/3 server console, both when logged on as the application service account with a trusted connection, and with a SQL login as the schema owner. From outside of the application, I cannot make it fail. It works perfectly.

That all changes when I try to use the Linked Server within an SAP custom program (ABAP), however. The program crashes with a database interface error. The database error code is 15274, and the error text is "Access to the remote server is denied because the current security context is not trusted."

I have set the "trustworthy" property on the R/3 database, I have ensured the service account is a member of the sysadmin SQL role, I've even made it a member of the local Administrators group on both source and target servers, and I've done the same with the SQL Server service account (it uses a domain account). I have configured the Distributed Transaction Coordinator on the source (Win2003) system per Microsoft KB 839279 (this fixed problems with remote queries coming the other way from the SQL2000 system), and I've upgraded the system stored procedures on the target (SQL2000) system according to MS KB 906954. I also tried making the schema user a member of the sysadmin role, but that was disastrous, resulting in an instant R/3 crash (don't try this in production!), so I set it back the way it was (default).

What's really strange is no matter how I try this from outside the R/3 system, it works perfectly, but from within R/3 it does not. A search of SAP Notes, SDN forums, SAPFANS, Microsoft's KnowledgeBase, and MSDN Forums has not yielded quite the same problem (although that did lead me to learning about the "trustworthy" database property).

Any insight someone could offer on this thorny problem would be most appreciated.

Best regards,

Matt

Access To The Remote Server Is Denied Because The Current Security Context Is Not Trusted

Jun 27, 2007

I am unable to run a stored procedure that accesses a linked Oracle database as a dataset for a deployed report in Reporting Services. I receive the following error:

An error has occurred during report processing.

Query execution failed for data set 'spName'.

Access to the remote server is denied because the current security context is not trusted.

A few facts ...

The report previews fine in Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Version 8.0.50727.762 (SP.050727-7600) report designer with VS being installed on my local machine and a shared data source referencing Server1
The deployed report on Server2 produces the error
The stored procedure code is similar to the following:

SELECT x.FieldName as OracleField

,y.FieldName as SSfield

FROM OracleLinkedServer..DatabaseName.TableName x

LEFT JOIN Server1.dbo.TableName y

The deployed report runs fine when the stored procedure code is changed as follows. This indicates to me that the problem is truly an Oracle connection issue;

SELECT 'ABC' as OracleField

,y.FieldName as SSfield

FROM Server1.dbo.TableName y

The Oracle database is a linked database on both SQL Server1 and on SQL Server2 database engines. (I don't see where in Server2 Reporting Services I can specify additional server connections.)
I've tried to trick Mr. Reporting Services on Server2 by creating a @L_TempTable in my stored procedure, inserting the data into it, then selecting from a SQL Server1.dbo.TableName LEFT JOIN @l_TempTable, but Server2 still knows I'm trying to get out to Oracle and rewards me with the error.
I can effectively run the Server1 stored procedure script on Server2 through MSSMS -- it's just the deployed report that references the stored procedure that doesn't work
The data source properties of the deployed report are as follows:

Select -- A Custom Datasource

Connection Type: Microsoft SQL Server

Connectoin String: Data Source=Server1;Initial Catalog=DatabaseName

Select -- Credentials stored securly in the report server

Username: UserName

Password: Password

Check -- Use as Windows credentials when connecting the the data source

Check -- Impersonate the authenticated user ...

(Please do not get sidetracked on the 'A Customer Datasource' selection above. I'd rather be using a shared data source, but right now, this is just the way it is.)

Anyone's expertise would be greatly appreciated. We have a great data warehouse but sometimes you just have to go back to the Oracle ERP and slug it out. What do I need to do to get a deployed report to effectively read from a stored procedure that references an Oracle table?

To everyone, thanks for reading!

Access To The Remote Server Is Denied Because The Current Security Context Is Not Trusted.

Aug 25, 2006

Hello,

In SQL 2005, from a stored procedure in a local database I am attempting to execute a remote stored procedure in another database on another server. I am getting the error referred to in the Subject when the local stored procedure tries to execute the remote stored procedure. A couple of comments:

The remote database is set up as a linked server in the local database. As part of the linked server definition I selected the 'be made using this security context', and provided a local user name and password.
The remote database is set to Trustworthy.
I have tried every combination of WITH Execute As on the remote stored procedure but nothing works.
I can query against the remote database successfully within Management Studio. I can even execute the remote stored procedure successfully from within M.S., but not from within my local stored procedure when it is run.

Thank you for your help on this - Amos.

The deployed report runs fine when the stored procedure code is changed as follows. This indicates to me that the problem is truly an Oracle connection issue;

Integrated Security Doesn't Work - Not Associated With A Trusted SQL Server Connection. Error

Oct 20, 2006

Hi,

I have a piece of Java code that needs to connect to SQL 2000 (SP4) using Windows Authentication. It's running on Windows Server 2003 SP1.

I tried JDBC v1.1 and followed the code from the following blog:

http://blogs.msdn.com/angelsb/default.aspx?p=1

But still get this error as shown below. Any help appreciated.

I am using JDK1.4.2, "sqljdbc_auth.dll" is located under "E:SQL2005JDBCDrvsqljdbc_1.1enuauthx86", also made a copy under "E:JavaTest" and "C:WindowsSystem32" but still won't work.

Cheers

Allan

Could Not Load File Or Assembly 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version 3.5.0.0

May 8, 2008

We just upgraded our applications from VS 2005 to VS 2008 and discovered we had to convert our SQL Server CE databases. So I did that. I then included the sqlce...35.dlls in the application directory on my test computer as well as the System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll version 3.5.

sqlceca35.dll
sqlcecompact35.dll
sqlceer35EN.dll
sqlceme35.dll
sqlceoledb35.dll
sqlceqp35.dll
sqlcese35.dll

When I run the app and it tries to load the System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll I get the following error:
System.IO.FileLoadException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.SqlServerCe, Version 3.5.0.0...or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference.

We have the application targeting the .NET Framework 2.0 and need to keep it that way for awhile.

Any ideas on how to resolve the error?

SQL 2012 :: Access To Remote Server Is Denied - Current Security Context Is Not Trusted

Feb 10, 2014

We've got 3 SQL Servers all SQL Server 2012. We have a Master server and 2 production servers (let's call them A and B). The Master has linked servers defined for both A and B in an identical way.

A and B both have the same databases and each has a Stored Proc that gets called by the Master server.
An SQL Agent job executes the stored proc on both A and B.
It works fine against A but not B.

If we execute the stored proc in a query window under our windows account (domainowner) it works, if we use SetUser to pretend to be the SQL Server Agent account (let's call it domainagent) A works and B doesn't.

Executing against B returns the error "Access to the remote server is denied because the current security context is not trusted."

domainagent is a sysadmin on both Server A and B.

Trustworthy is set to ON in both the Master Server Database it's executing from and the remote databases on both A and B.

All 3 databases have the same owner (let's call it domainowner).

For Remus - Access To The Remote Server Is Denied Because The Current Security Context Is Not Trusted.

Aug 25, 2006

Remus (or anyone who can help) -

I am sorry for posting this question here. The only reason I am doing so is because Remus answered a question similar to this late last year, but I couldn't get access to the whole thread.

In SQL 2005, from a stored procedure in a local database I am attempting to execute a remote stored procedure in another database on another server. I am getting the error referred to in the Subject when the local stored procedure tries to execute the remote stored procedure. A couple of comments:

a.. The remote database is set up as a linked server in the local database. As part of the linked server definition I selected the 'be made using this security context', and provided a local user name and password.
b.. The remote database is set to Trustworthy.
c.. I have tried every combination of WITH Execute As on the remote stored procedure but nothing works.
d.. I can query against the remote database successfully within Management Studio. I can even execute the remote stored procedure successfully from within M.S., but not from within my local stored procedure when it is run.

Thank you for your help on this - Amos.

Install Error System.data.sqlserverce Not In Global Assembly Cache

Nov 2, 2006

I have built a small application in vs2005 (vb) using system.data.slqserverce building

in the mobile sql engine into my app. I intend to run this on desktop. The app

works fine on my development laptop machine, when i publish it (to a hard disk folder) and run it on another laptop, i get:

'unable to install or run the application. The application requires that assembly system.data.sqlserverce version 9.0.242.0 be installed in the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) first.'

This is my first app in .net so not sure what this means.

I thought all i had to do was reference the file (which i have done in the project) and

VS would take care of stuff like this? Framework 2.0 is installed on the target machine.

Hope im in the right forum for this! if not i apologise

Any help most appreciated.

Error 15274: Access To The Remote Server Is Denied Because The Current Security Context Is Not Trusted.

Sep 12, 2007

Hi,

I have a stored procedure servicing a queue (sql 2005).
The stored procedure updates some data in a different server and database.
If the queue contains messages and I execute manually the stored procedure, I don't have any problem at all.
However, if I set the queue to use the same stored procedure, it gives me the following error:

Error 15274: Access to the remote server is denied because the current security context is not trusted.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Aron

Calling VB Based SQLCLR Function Failed With Error Can't Load System.Web Assembly

Apr 20, 2007

I created a CLR function based on following VB code:

Imports Microsoft.SqlServer.Server

Public Partial Class SqlClrVB

<Microsoft.SqlServer.Server.SqlFunction()> _

Public Shared Function GetTotalPhysicalMemory() As Integer

GetTotalPhysicalMemory = My.Computer.Info.TotalPhysicalMemory

End Function

End Class

The VB code was complied into a DLL called totalmem.dll and call following TSQL to map it into a SQL function:

create assembly totalmem from '!WORKINGDIR! otalmem.dll'

WITH PERMISSION_SET=UNSAFE

go

create function fnGetTotalMem()

returns int

as external name totalmem.SqlClrVB.GetTotalPhysicalMemory

go

When I call this function, it returned following error:

select dbo.fnGetTotalMem()

Msg 6522, Level 16, State 2, Line 0

A .NET Framework error occurred during execution of user defined routine or aggregate 'fnGetTotalMem':

System.IO.FileNotFoundException: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Web, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

System.IO.FileNotFoundException:

at Microsoft.VisualBasic.MyServices.Internal.ContextValue`1.get_Value()

at My.MyProject.ThreadSafeObjectProvider`1.get_GetInstance()

at SqlClrVB.GetTotalPhysicalMemory()

.

Anyone knows why I'm hitting this error? I didn't reference any System.Web interface why it needs to load System.Web assembly? The same code runs OK if I compile it as a separate VB application out side of SQL Server 2005.

Thanks much,

Zhiqiang

ALTER ASSEMBLY Error Msg 6509 An Error Occurred While Gathering Metadata From Assembly ‘&&<Assembly Name&&>’ With HRESULT 0x1.

Feb 22, 2008

I work with February CTP of SqlServer 2008.
I have an Assembly with several UDTs inside. Version of assembly is 1.0.*
I use CREATE ASSEMBLY statement to register this assembly, and it runs without any errors. Then I rebuild CLR solution without doing any changes in source code. In that case the only difference between new and old assemblies is version (difference in fourth part of version).
Then I try to update assembly in SqlServer. I use
ALTER ASSEMBLY <name>
FROM <path>
WITH PERMISSION_SET = UNSAFE, UNCHECKED DATA
statement for this. Statement runs with error:
Msg 6509An error occurred while gathering metadata from assembly €˜<Assembly name>€™ with HRESULT 0x1.
I found the list of condition for ALTER ASSEMBLY in MSDN:
ALTER ASSEMBLY statement cannot be used to change the following:
· The signatures of CLR functions, aggregate functions, stored procedures, and triggers in an instance of SQL Server that reference the assembly. ALTER ASSEMBLY fails when SQL Server cannot rebind .NET Framework database objects in SQL Server with the new version of the assembly.
· The signatures of methods in the assembly that are called from other assemblies.
· The list of assemblies that depend on the assembly, as referenced in the DependentList property of the assembly.
· The indexability of a method, unless there are no indexes or persisted computed columns depending on that method, either directly or indirectly.
· The FillRow method name attribute for CLR table-valued functions.
· The Accumulate and Terminate method signature for user-defined aggregates.
· System assemblies.
· Assembly ownership. Use ALTER AUTHORIZATION (Transact-SQL) instead.
Additionally, for assemblies that implement user-defined types, ALTER ASSEMBLY can be used for making only the following changes:
· Modifying public methods of the user-defined type class, as long as signatures or attributes are not changed.
· Adding new public methods.
· Modifying private methods in any way.

But I haven€™t done any changes in source code, so new version of assembly satisfies all this conditions.
What could be the reason for such behavior?
P.S. I€™ve got the same error, if I add or change any method in assembly before rebuilding.
