Greetings all. I am currently working to improve the security on a legacy application we have at my company. The app was written in vb6 years ago. We now have the app running against a sql 2005 server. One of the function/screens in the application is used to administrate users. (each user has a sql user id) and one of the functions is to reset the password. The vb code uses a call to sp_password. Here is the problem. We setup a network sniffer and found the command being in plain text. While the user logon is encrypted ( SSL Fallback) the sp_password commands issued by the app are plan text. Anyone know of a way to make this encrypted? Leif
I have a SQL Server 2000 table with a few fields of "text" data typethat contain rich text. I have to downstream this data and therecipient cannot handle rich text. I need to figure out a way toconvert it back to plain text. Any suggetions?TIA
How can I set the default body_format in database mail. I would like to send a warning with plain text format (from the alerts), that i'll get on my mobile phone, but the message's format is html... always...and I don't get the sms-s.
sorry to raise this again here. I have seen a lot of posts on this board about plain text rendering but never really a satisfactory answer. So my question is: Has anyone succeeded in developing a custom rendering extension which is able to render a report as plain text?
I am a Technical Lead in a project to convert and migrate reporting from Unix/C to Reporting Services 2005. One requirement is, to render the reports in plain text for archiving purposes. I know that there are a million options out there to archive in PDF and whatever. Well, we need plain text. No way around it! It is a governmental requirement!
I am about to pull the plug on SSRS 2005 just because we are not able to fulfill this requirement. And we are talking about a big project converting >700 reports!
Challenges we are facing:
Reporting components are rendered as they appear in a compnent list, one after each other. If you now have two multiline components side by side, i.e. two lists, the first list component in the array gets rendered and then the other. This makes it almost impossible to render the lines in those two components side by side. In the sample below, the Report Header would be rendered, then the Address block, then the Other Data block, then the Order History Table and then the Account Statement table.
Positioning of text boxes is almost impossible. We are able to find out how many centimeters/inches/millimeters/points a control is located from the left border. But how can we translate this into i.e. how many spaces will we need to add for padding?
The column width can't be determined. SSRS adds a line break if the cell text is longer than the column width.
We have reports which look something like this:
Code Block
Code Block
REPORT NAME
MANAGER NAME
ACCOUNT REPORT DATE
First Name: XXXXXXXXXXXX Other Data: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX Last Name: XXXXXXXXXXXX More Data: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX Address: XXXXXXXXXXXX More Data: XXXXXXXXXXXXXX City: XXXXXXXXXXXX
I also got some advice that SSRS is probably the wrong tool. And I also read this in some of the "Plain Text" posts here. And I am actually surprised about this. People suggest to look for some other tool and not use i.e. email subscrptions, other rendering formats, SSRS security model, snapshot history, report models and all the other goodies only because we can't render in simple text?
If anyone has any information to share, I would very much appreciate it. We also looked at third party tools and plug ins but couldn't find any! If anyone knows of a company who would be able to help us, let me know!
I really would love to pull this project off with SSRS 2005 because I Iike the technology and SSRS provides a lot of functionality we want to leverage. I believe SSRS is the right tool for us and it covers 95% of our business requirements! But at this stage it doesn't look very rosy! Because of the Plain Text rendering!
Does anyone have the logic to convert RTF formatted data in a textcolumn into plain ascii text that I can use in a varchar variable orfield? We have an app that allows formatted comments/notes to be stored in aSQL 2000 text column. Ideally, I would like a trigger that would copyany inserted comments into a seperate table, varchar field so thatthese are viewable in other apps that can not display formatted RTF.I would really like the logic to be all SQL based and not have to use aclient app to read/convert/insert the data in a batch mode.
Hi all. Iv'e tryed out xp_smtp_sendmail, and I like what I can see sofar. The thing I wonder about is if the xp supports sending both htmlAND plain text in the same mail. I'm on a sql2000 sp3 and I have noproblem with the xp when i either send plain text or html, but asstated above I need to send with both formats in one mail......For use when one does not know if the receiver uses a mail-client thatsupports html or not. If not does anyone know of a good way to attackthis problem?thanks in advanceKarl B
I am new to Integration services.I have one query ,Is it possible to import the data from text file in integration services. I know that we can import the data from excel sheet and we can export it to table. But my question is whether we can do the same thing from the text file.If anyone come acroos the same thing send u r possible answers.Your help is much appreciated.
CREATE TABLE [dbo].[instructions]( [site_no] [int] NOT NULL, [instructions] [text] NULL ) Select top 3 * from instructions
Output
Site_noInstructions 20Request PIN then proceed 21Request PIN if wrong request name 22Request PIN allowed to use only numbers
All text instructions start with “Request PIN” but after that the text are different for every site_no
I need insert in all site_no rows and after the “Request PIN” the text “and codeword” keeping the current rest of text
Desired output
Site_noInstructions 20Request PIN and codeword then proceed 21Request PIN and codeword if wrong request name 22Request PIN and codeword allowed to use only numbers
I have a situation where I want to update a column if and only if it is null.
UPDATE Employee SET VEmployeeID = CASE WHEN E.VEmployeeID IS NULL THEN ves.VEmployeeID END FROM Employee E INNER JOIN VEmployeeStaging VES ON E.EID= VES.EID
But what happens is when I run the procedure every other time I run it, it changes everything to null. The other times it puts the VEmployeeID in.
So what is happening is the times when it is not null (where it is not supposed to do anything) it puts a null in. The next time it works.
I am trying to insert new records into the target table, if no records exist in the source table. I am passing user specific values for insert, but it does not insert any values, nor does it throw any errors. The insert needs to occur in the LOAN_GROUP_INFO table, i.e. the target table.
MERGE INTO LOAN_GROUP_INFO AS TARGET USING (SELECT LGI_GROUPID FROM LOAN_GROUPING WHERE LG_LOANID = 22720 AND LG_ISACTIVE = 1) AS SOURCE
I would like to generate a working schedule for employees for x-days ahead based on a starting date that the user can enter.
I have got 3 relevant tables:
1. Table X with (1) resourcenumber, (2) starting date working schedule and (3) the daynumber representing the starting date (this is ISO so 1 for Monday, 2 for Tuesday etc.)
2. Table Y has the schedule itself and can hold a 7-days schedule or a 14-days schedule. In case of 7 days schedule there a 14 (!) records with (1) resourcenumber, (2) daynumber, (3) starting hour a.m. (4) ending hour a.m (5) starting hour p.m and (6) ending hour p.m. In case of a 14-days schedule there are 28 records (a.m. and p.m. records)
3. Table Z with resource data.
An example to clarify (for fake employee 100):
Table X: Resource: 100 Starting date: 2012-03-01 (from this date the schedule will be effective) Daynumber: 4 (2012-03-01 was a Thursday)
Table Y (Resource has a 14 days schedule because per 2 weeks Monday is an off-day):
Record 1 shows: Resource: 100, Daynumber: 1 (= Monday, working day), AM-Starting hour: 09:00, AM-Ending hour: 13:00, PM-starting hour: 13:30, PM-ending hour: 17:30 Record 2: same but daynumber is 2 Record 3: same but daynumber is 3 etc. ... Record 8 shows: Resource: 100, Daynumber: 8 (= Monday, off-day), AM-Starting hour: 00:00, AM-Ending hour: 00:00, PM-starting hour: 00:00, PM-ending hour: 00:00 Record 9: same as record 2 but daynumber is 9. etc. ... Record 14: same as record 7 but day is 14 (= last day)
The weekend days show as 00:00 for the hours (same as day 8 in example)
I generated the working schedule with a CROSS APPLY function based on the starting date and the x-number of days ahead.
I then evaluate the actual daynumber corresponding with that date with the daynumber in table Y. That works fine with a 7-days schedule but I can't get it fixed with a 14-days schedule. Day 8 in that schedule represents an actual day 1 but how do I know what actual date day 8 is ... I think I have to start with the starting date in table X ...
I think ideally I would like to have the generated days as follows (as an example in case of a 14-days schedule starting 2014-05-01 for 30 days ahead):
2014-05-01 = day 4 (= actual daynumber) 2014-05-02 = day 5 2014-05-03 = day 6 ... 2014-05-10 = day 13 2014-05-11 = day 14 2014-05-12 = day 1 2014-05-13 = day 2 2014-05-14 = day 3 ... 2014-05-24 = day 13 2014-05-25 = day 14 2014-05-26 = day 1 2014-05-27 = day 2 ... 2014-05-31 = day 6
With this done I can compare the actual daynumber with the daynumber in Table Y.
The rownumber that the CROSS APPLY function generates has to be reset to 1 after day 14. I tried PARTITION BY in THE ROW_NUMBER function but to no avail ... The only field I can partition by is the maximum value of the daynumber (14 is the example) but that is not allowed in the rownumber function.
Dealing with 3rd party app that is somehow deleting records. Was going to put a delete trigger on the table so we can at least be notified of the delete and save the record. Great idea until I found out the table has a text data type for one of the fields which are'nt allowed on the delete or update portion of the trigger. Unfortunately the text data contains what we really need to retain. Tried doing a convert varchar and that would not work.
Select * from TableName Where Contains(ColumnToBeSearched, 'testtosearch')
QUESTION: Can the 'testtosearch' be another table field like ''' + <AnotherTBLField> + '''Is there anyway to make the population of 'testtosearch' to be based on another table field (say when you join to it)?If not what else can I do, another function maybe?
I have an instance where a process is trying to insert a Customer into the Customers table and CustomerLastName is a non nullable field. Customer's last name is Null. Should this be the reason this Customer is never in the end table?
I have text column .I want to find out first occurance of string based on logic.I defiend Text with examples and also mentioned expected result.I coloured the text in word document, due to some reasons not displaying same here.Attached as image below texts to understand more clear.
TEXT 1: 'ABNAGENDRACSURENDRADJITHENDRAXNARENDRABVEERNDARAXDRMNDRAXRVINDRABNAGENDRACSURENDRADJITHEN'
From the above text1, I want to get “AXNARENDR”.
Based on logic defined below:
First I have to search for string “A” Then next to ‘A’ it should not be “B” or “C” or “D”.It can be anything other thing these three.Combination of “A” otherthan “B” or “C” or “D”
In the example text I defined “A”,”X” defined three times .I want to capture few characters from the first occurrence of the string
If anyone has examples of pulling the text out of textboxes and passing it to a INSERT statement which then puts the data into a SQL database table please if you could pass this on that would be great.
I wrote this sql function which takes a comma seperated string of numbers, splits the numbers seperately and stores it in a table. I have specified the input parameter type as text instead of varchar, the size of the string can get more than 8000.
But the function is not working properly if the input size is more than 8000. For example if the input string is of length 8005 and this is the input string from 7995 to 8005 - '123,124,125'. It works fine till 123 and after that it throws an error, Syntax error converting the varchar value '124,125' to a column of data type int. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with this. I am using string functions like charindex, substring. I can post the full function if you want.
I am looking to promote a SSIS package to various servers. The name and location of the text Log File setup in BIDS for the package is expected to change. The SSIS package will be executed through a 3rd party scheduler as a batch command file.
I am trying to use this command to change the location dtexec /F DASD_Database_List_export.dtsx /L "DTS.LogProviderTextFile.1;E:Log.txt"
For which I am getting this error:
Description: The connection manager "E:log.txt" is not found. A component failed to find the connection manager in the Connections collection.
I tried Set command approach from http://www.sqlteam.com/forums/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=72104
It did not work.
Has anyone been successful in using the dtexec log parameter DTS.LogProviderTextFile.1? Could you post how you got it to work? Thanks
Issue1: I have a sql 2k machine. I hav enabled full text indexing on this machine. There after, i inserted and updated so many records. When i do a search using the below query: It gaves me nothing
select * from table1 where contains ( col1,'"keyword"' )
Issue 2: Another issue is when i gives multiple columns in the below query for search, it throws up a syntax error message at (
select * from table1 where contains ( (col1,col2,col3),'"keyword"') )
Do sql 2k does not allow this format of query(above). But, the same is working fine with one column.
Any inputs on this is highly appreciated. Thanks! Santhosh
I have Sql server 2005 SP2. I enabled it for Full Text search. Substring search where i enter *word* doesn't return any row. I have a table testtable where description has word Extinguisher.
If i run a query with *ting* it doesn't return any row. select * from testtable where contains(description,'"*xting*"') ;
But it works if i do select * from testtable where contains(description,'"Exting*"') ;
The Full text search document says it supports substring search. Is it an issue with sql server 2005?Please help.
Are the XML tags searched, as well as, the contents within the tags, when an xml column is included in a full-text index? Or is it only the contents within the tags? Would I need to combine full-text search with XPath/XQuery to get at the actual tags?
The files have pipe delimters and double quotes as text qualifiers. I can get the file to import with a bulk insert statement, but it brings in the double quotes in as well. What setting is it that can be set to indicate what the text qualifiers are?
Hello. I am really new to sql server. I have a db in the server that I use for testing. i want to export it in plain sql so as to import it in another db system. How can I do it?
I'm quit new into SQL - have a problem - and hope someone here ca n help me.
I have a table TABLE1 with different fields. A part of it looks like this:
FIELD1 FIELD2 FIELD3
111111 121212 0
111111 121212 91
222222 232323 0
222222 232323 73
etc. etc.
I want to "copy"/write over '0' in FIELD3 with the number in FIELD3 from the line that has the same numbers (and unique for these two lines) in FIELD1 and FIELD2. The table will then look like this:
FIELD1 FIELD2 FIELD3
111111 121212 91
111111 121212 91
222222 232323 73
222222 232323 73
I can make a temporary table or a new field if necessary. I just don't know how to write the right SQL.
Hi, I was wondering if any SQL Server gurus out there could help me...
I have a table I'm trying to apply a full text catalog to, however no results are ever returned due to the text column being cataloged being of varbinary(max) that's being populated from a converted nvarchar(max) value.
To re-create the problem quickly...
If I populate the column via CONVERT(varbinary(max), 'test text') then there is no problem, I get results as expected.
However if I populate the column via CONVERT(varbinary(max), CAST('test text' as nvarchar(max))) no results are ever returned.
Is this a bug with SQL Server 2005 Full Text Indexing? I'm happily creating full text catalogs when an nvarchar is not getting converted into a varbinary.
I'm setting the Document Type column to '.html' (I've tried changing this to '.txt' in case it was a fault with the html ifilter but the problem persists so I believe I can rule this out).
The reason I need to convert an nvarchar to varbinary is that the table holds multi-lingual text and I'm adding a html meta tag <META NAME="MS.LOCALE" CONTENT="ES"> to the beginning in order for the full text indexing word breaker to select the correct language to catalog the text with. The aim being to provide more relevant searches in users native languages (I've read a few articles that describe this technique, but it's the first time I've tried to apply it).
Any pointers / suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Gavin.
Below is a T-SQL script you can run to demonstrate the effect I'm experiencing...
-- Create test database CREATE DATABASE FullTextTest GO USE FullTextTest GO
-- Create test data table CREATE TABLE TestTable ( pk UNIQUEIDENTIFIER NOT NULL CONSTRAINT tablePK PRIMARY KEY, varbinarycol VARBINARY(MAX), documentExtension VARCHAR(5), ) GO
-- The below single entry WILL BE FOUND (the text source is being entered directly) INSERT INTO TestTable (pk, varbinarycol, documentExtension) VALUES (NEWID(), CONVERT(VARBINARY(MAX),'<META NAME="MS.LOCALE" CONTENT="EN">test entry 1'), '.html')
-- The bellow two entries below WILL NOT BE FOUND (the text source is taken from an NVARCHAR(MAX) value) INSERT INTO TestTable (pk, varbinarycol, documentExtension) VALUES (NEWID(), CONVERT(VARBINARY(MAX), CAST('<META NAME="MS.LOCALE" CONTENT="EN">test entry 2' AS NVARCHAR(MAX))), '.html') INSERT INTO TestTable (pk, varbinarycol, documentExtension) VALUES (NEWID(), CONVERT(VARBINARY(MAX), CAST('<META NAME="MS.LOCALE" CONTENT="EN">test entry 3' AS NVARCHAR(MAX))), '.html') GO
-- Create the full text catalog sp_fulltext_database 'enable' GO CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG TEST AS DEFAULT GO CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX ON TestTable (varbinarycol TYPE COLUMN documentExtension LANGUAGE 1033) KEY INDEX tablePK GO
-- NOTE: You might need to give the catalog a chance to build before running the script below.
-- Now do a search that SHOULD RETURN 3 ROWS of data, but ONLY 1 ROW IS RETURNED SELECT CAST(varbinarycol AS NVARCHAR(MAX)) FROM TestTable WHERE CONTAINS(varbinarycol, 'test')
