I have created dynamic sql to declare variables based on columns from the table and i set values to those variable now here is the issue . i want to check the variable values how do i do that dynamically
drop table test
create table test
(
id varchar(10) not null,
col1 varchar(10) ,
col2 varchar(10)
[Code] .....
Now my next step is verify if the variable is blank or not how do i do that ?
How do i verify all of the columns one after the other .
I am after the statement like this dynamically
-- IF NOT (@col1 = '') THEN set @SQL = @SQL + '[col1] = ' + @col1 + ' '
--IF NOT (@col2 = '') THEN set @SQL = @SQL + '[col2] = ' + @col2 + ' '
I need to check if the columns are blank or not dynamically as i do not want to hard code the column names there.
I have a script that I use after some amount of data massaging (not shown). I would like to be able to change the
1) denominator value (the value 8 in line 32 of my code) based on how many columns are selected by the where clause:
where left(CapNumber,charindex('_', CapNumber)-1) = 1where capNumber is a value like [1_1], [1_4], [1_6]...[1_9] capNumber can be any values from [1_1]...[14_10] depending upon the specialty value (example: Allergy) and the final number after the equal sign is a number from 1 to 14)
2) I'd like to dynamically determine the series depending upon which values correspond to the specialty and run for each where: left(CapNumber,charindex('_', CapNumber)-1) = n. n is a number between 1 and 14.
3) finally I'd like to dynamically determine the columns in line 31 (4th line from the bottom)
If I do it by hand it's 23 * 14 separate runs to get separate results for each CapNumber series within specialty. The capNumber series is like [1_1], [1_2], [1_3],[1_4], [1_5], [1_6], [1_7], [1_8],[1_9] ... [8_4],[8_7] ... [14_1], [14_2],...[14_10] etc.
Again, the series are usually discontinuous and specific to each specialty.
Here's the portion of the script (it's at the end) that I'm talking about:
--change values in square brackets below for each specialty as needed and change the denom number in the very last query.
if object_id('tempdb..#tempAllergy') is not null drop table #tempAllergy select * into #tempAllergy from dbo.#temp2 T
[Code] ....
If I were to do it manually I'd uncomment each series line in turn and comment the one I just ran.
declare @user varchar(30) = '' if(@user is not null or @user <> '') BEGIN print 'I am not empty' END ELSE BEGIN print 'I am empty' ENd
The output should be 'i am empty' but when i execute this i am getting ' i am not empty'. even i did browse through but i don't find the difference in my logic.
Hi there, I want to create an SQL Function that checks if a table exists and returns true or false. I will pass this function a paramter (say @COMPANYID) e.g.
if exists (select * from dbo.sysobjects where id = object_id(N'[dbo].[tblmyTableName_' + @COMPANYID) and OBJECTPROPERTY(id, N'IsUserTable') = 1)
how would I write this so the query is dynamically executed and I can get a value of true or false back?
Where does the "Dynamically determine port" check box come from when creating a ODBC connection using TCP/IP in the client configuration? Only shows up in the control panel/adminstrative tools/Data Sources (ODBC) when it is installed. I have 3 computers here that have it (they are for development) but I am finding my users desktops do not have the box and so I am getting errors trying to connect from their desktops.
I am using Excel and Microsoft Access 2000 to connect to the server using the ODBC connection.
I need my users to connect to SQL Server 2005 so I need the "Dynamically determine port" box checked to find the port. Tried typing in the port but that isn't solving the problem or answering my question. So far I have tried MDAC and .NET 2.0 platform installs with no luck.
A user is wanting to run a query against the current 3 active databases. These change every month on the 1st e.g. Test-06-14. Therefore I want to set up a dynamic query which will always use the current database. I believe I am almost there but I cannot set the USE @DatabaseName dynamically yet.
I am having SP which gives, two result sets. The columns which are coming from result sets are also dynamic. i.e. some time 5 columns and some time 10 columns.
Now I want to load this output into 2 different tables on daily basis. This would be truncate/delete table and load again.
Now my problem is that as I am not sure about columns, Is it possible to create table(Physical Table) depends on output of SP, and after load data into it.
During each load we can drop table, No issue and we can handle this through SSIS Package.
I have an SSIS package that puts together a series of queries to check all text fields in all tables of a database for a set of "invalid" characters. I know the root query works as we have been running it manually for quite a while. However, now that I have changed it to build dynamically, I cannot figure out why it does not work.
Here is the code. The EXEC (@sSQL) returns 3 records. It just so happens that these 3 records are the only ones in the database with a '?' in the field. The very bottom statement returns 0 records. I cannot figure out what the difference is. When I do PRINT (@sSQL), it looks fine to me, except that @Pattern is fully printed.
I have table of standardized data that I'm merging into from an Import table.
This import table may have the [ContactName]. I one row in the import table has the contact name then every row would have the contact name.
What I'd like to be able to do is something like this in the UPDATE portion of the Merge (I don't care about the insert phase, since I can insert a null [ContactName] since I'm not overwritting an existing [ContactName]
MERGE INTO [dbo].[Standardized] AS [target] USING [dbo].[ImportDestination] AS [Source] ON [Source].[Key] = [Target].[Key] WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE SET[ContactName] = CASE WHEN source.[ContactName] IS NOT NULL THEN source.[ContactName] else target.[ContactName];
Is anything like that possible and if the code above works it would only work on a row by row bases. Is it possible to figure out if any [ContactName] has data and if so possibly overwrite an old [ContactName] with a null?
tblServer represents a server, tblInstance represents any SQL Server instances present on the server. They're related thru srvID.
I'd like to write a query that gives me servers with all instances, on one row. This dataset will populate a List in an SSRS report.
I have this but it's clunky and does not provide for more than 2 instances on the server. I'd like this to account for any number of instances all on one row without having to hard code multiple joins:
with serverInfo as ( select srv.srvType as Type ,srv.srvName as ServerName ,srv.srvIP as ServerIP ,ins.instNetName as InstanceNetName
How to count the number of values that exist in a row based on the values from an array of numbers. Basically the the array of numbers I want to look for are in row 1 of table [test 1] and I want to search for them and count the "out of" in table [test 2]. Excuse me for not using the easiest way to convey my question below. I guess in short I have 10 numbers and like to find how many of those numbers exist in each row. short example:
SET MSYear= casewhen MSDate > '2011/06/30' and MSDate < '2012/07/01' THEN '2012' when MSDate > '2012/06/30' and MSDate < '2013/07/01' THEN '2013' when MSDate > '2013/06/30' and MSDate < '2014/07/01' THEN '2014' when MSDate > '2014/06/30' and MSDate < '2015/07/01' THEN '2015' when MSDate > '2015/06/30' and MSDate < '2016/07/01' THEN '2016' when MSDate > '2016/06/30' and MSDate < '2017/07/01' THEN '2017' End
Actually our business year starts from 1st july and for this code I need function which is dynamically updates the every year for example 2014-07-01 to 2015-06-30 this is called as a 2015 year like this I need function which will dynamically update a year.
it is my first post on this forum, please be patient if i miss any important bit of information.
i am transporting data from a legacy system into mssql 2k5 using SSIS. among those column of a dataset there are 13 columns, all necessary for operational reasons, that i need to ensure data consistance.
i believe i could do this check using the lookup data flow item, but surely there must be a way to do it in a more streamlined fashion.
since column names contain numbers to distinguish the version, eg; col01, col02, col03 .. col13.
i thought i could include the lookup within a loop and use a couple of variables to do this trick, but since i have not done it before i am asking for some sort of guidance from a guru among you folks.
please let me know if further clarification is necessary.
I want to aggregate to monthly values for the reading. I want to display Reading value for Oct 2010, November 2010 likewise My question is simple and I have tried to follow the etiquette.
IF OBJECT_ID('TempDB..#mytable','U') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE #mytable
--===== Create the test table with
CREATE TABLE #mytable ( meterID INT PRIMARY KEY, Readingdate DATETIME, reading real )
--===== Setup any special required conditions especially where dates are concerned
SET DATEFORMAT DMY SELECT '4','Oct 17 2013 12:00AM','5.1709' UNION ALL SELECT '4','Oct 17 2013 12:15AM','5.5319' UNION ALL SELECT '4','Nov 17 2013 12:00AM','5.5793' UNION ALL SELECT '4','Nov 17 2013 14:00AM','5.2471' UNION ALL SELECT '5','Nov 17 2013 12:00AM','5.1177' UNION ALL SELECT '5','Nov 17 2013 14:00AM','5.5510' UNION ALL SELECT '5','Dec 17 2013 15:00AM','5.5128', UNION ALL SELECT '5','Dec 17 2013 16:00AM','5.5758' UNION ALL
Output should display as
MeterId Period Reading
4 Oct 13 10.20 4 Nov 13 10.40 5 Oct 13 10.20 5 Nov 13 10.40 4 Dec 13 11.15
I'm attempting to modify some Crosstab generating code, and I need someadvice/examples.Currently, the code uses a single string variable to store thedynamically generated query (www.johnmacintyre.ca). The problem is thatI am trying to pivot biological taxonomy information, and may end upwith a table containing over 200 columns. This takes the dynamic stringwell over the 8000char limit for variables.[color=blue]>From my understanding, the EXEC() command does not have the 8000char[/color]limit if the execution string is broken into chunks, and concatenatede.g. EXEC(sql1 + sql2 + sql3 + ...). So the solution I think I need isto:1) start a counter at the beginining of the dynamic generation2) append the counter value to the end of a string variable name3) DECLARE the new variable and attach that loop cycle of text to it,or attach each chunk of characters < 80004) build the EXEC() string by concatenating each dynamic varibleCan this be done? Should it be done? Is there a better way to addressthis type of problem? Thanks for any ideas or insightsTim Pascoe
I have a SSIS pkg with several task. I need to run a global variable dynamically. the global variable's value is basically a bat file with two arguments (\.......bat \.......xls \........xls)
bat file arg1 arg2 This global variable gets set from its previous task at run time. I did put in this global variable as an argument in expression and for executable i am calling the cmd.exe file. But for some reason it does not work. the command prompt comes up wait for an action from user which is wrong. Please help
I need to call another database in the same server dynamically; creating a varible off it or somehow. Example:
-- In database DBaseA declare @dbname as varchar (30) set @dbname='[DBaseB].[dbo]' select * from @dbname.[table2]
I know this block of code doesnt work. And i need a way of making the database DBaseB dynamic. DBaseA and DBaseB are in the same server. I am using Sql Server 2000. How do i solve this? Solutions ?
I want to change Set clause of Update Statement dynamically based on some condition.
Basically i have 2 Update statments having same FROM clause and same JOIN clause.
Only diff is SET clause and 1 Where condition.
So i am trying to combine 2 Update statements into 1 and trying to avoid visit to same table twice.
Update t Set CASE **WHEN Isnull(td.IsPosted, 0) = 0 THEN t.AODYD = td.ODYD** *ELSE t.DAODYD = td.ODYD* END From #ReportData As t Join @CIR AS tmp On t.RowId = tmp.Max_RowId
insert into #t(branchnumber) values (005) insert into #t(branchnumber) values (090) insert into #t(branchnumber) values (115) insert into #t(branchnumber) values (210) insert into #t(branchnumber) values (216)
[code]....
I have a parameter which should take multiple values into it and pass that to the code that i use. For, this i created a parameter and temporarily for testing i am passing some values into it.Using a dynamic SQL i am converting multiple values into multiple records as rows into another variable (called @QUERY). My question is, how to insert the values from variable into a table (table variable or temp table or CTE).OR Is there any way to parse the multiple values into a table. like if we pass multiple values into a parameter. those should go into a table as rows.
Within an SSIS Package, we are trying to change the connection string of an output file connection manager at runtime (used for package logging).
To do this, we have defined variables with package-level scope and set the connection manager connection string to this variable. The first step of the package is to set these variables. The second step begins the rest of the package operations (moving data). The package executes successfully, but the log file is never created/appended to.
When the package is debugged, I can verify that the variables are being set correctly in the script task and that the variable values are being passed to the connection manager data sources.
i using a bound data grid which is using a stored proc. The stored proc needs the ClientID "if logged in" there is no form or control on the page outside of the loginstatus. I am wanting to pass the Membership.GetUser.ProviderUserKey.ToString() to the asp:parameter but I cant get it to work.So How do I pass a variable to a stored proc parameter using a bound data grid.I this its very strange that this cant be dont and there are a raft of reason why you wold want to do this with out the need to pass it to a form control.please helpjim
I have a case where if the Id field is a specific value, I don't want to allow null in another field, but if the Id value <> a specific value, null is ok.
In the example below, inserting the first record should succeed, the second should succeed, and the 3rd should fail. Right now the 2nd two fail. I gotta be missing something easy, but I can't figure it out.
USE tempdb GO IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb.dbo.CheckConstraintTest') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE tempdb.dbo.CheckConstraintTest; CREATE TABLE CheckConstraintTest
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knew of a way to dynamically delete all of the values for a group of columns. What I mean by this is that lets say a table (TableA) has five fields (Field1, Field2, Field3, Field4, and Field5) with 100 rows of data. I want to delete all of the data in Field1, Field2, and Field4. I do not want to delete any of the data in Field3 and Field5. I would then end up with a table with 5 fields and 100 row, but only 2 fields (Field3 and Field5) have data.
The catch is that I can't hardcode the field names of the fields I want to clear out (Field1, Field2, and Field4) into the SQL. This is because if any new fields are eventually added to the table I want them to be cleared out as well without modifying the SQL.
I can hardcode the field names of the fields that I want to keep values for (Field3 and Field5) in the SQL.
If anyone has any idea how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it.
I have 2 identical tables one contains current settings, the other contains all historical settings.I could create a union view to display the current values from table A and all historical values from table B, butthat would also require a Variable to hold the tblid for both select statements.
Q. Can this be done with one joined or conditional select statement?
DECLARE @tblid int = 501 SELECT 1,2,3,4,'CurrentSetting' FROM TableA ta WHERE tblid = @tblid UNION SELECT 1,2,3,4,'PreviosSetting' FROM Tableb tb WHERE tblid = @tblid
We have a table that has customers invoices and payment records. In some cases a customer has 10 lines with 10 different invoice numbers but may have paid 2 or more invoices with one check. I need to know how many unique payments were made per customer.
I am relatively new to SQL and as a project I have been asked to create the SQL for a simple database to record train details. I want to implement a check constraint which will prevent data from being inserted into a table if the weight of the train is more than the maximum towing weight of the locomotive. FOr instance, I need to add the unladen weight and maximum capacity of each wagon (located in the wagon type table) and compare it against the locomotive maximum pulling weight (the locomotive class table). I have the following SQL but it will not work:
check((select SUM(fwt.unladen_weight+fwt.maximum_payload) from hauls as h,freight_wagon as fw,freight_wagon_type as fwt,train as t where h.freight_wagon_serial_number = fw.freight_wagon_serial_number and fw.freight_wagon_type = fwt.freight_wagon_type and h.train_number = t.train_number) < (select lc.maximum_towing_weight from locomotive_class as lc,locomotive as l,train as t where lc.locomotive_class = l.locomotive_class and l.locomotive_serial_number = t.locomotive_serial_number))
The hauls table is where the constraint has been placed and is the intermediary table between train and freight wagon.
I may not have explained this very well; but in short, i need to compare the sum of two values in one table against a values located in another table...At present I keep getting a message telling me the sub query cannot return more than one row.
I have developed an SSIS package which extracts and creates 5 flat files and finally using Process Extraction task zip the folder. On my Dev environment everything is working fine but when I am moving to SIT and UAT, not able to set up jobs dynamically by importing XMLConfig file.I created variables and assigned values but still it doesnt take.Below are varaibles I created for flat file destination, Arguments and Working Directory (for zipping)On UAT when I go to SQLAgentJobs to set, import .dtsx file, XML config file....the new values doesnt appear. why ?DataSource is taking always dev location....why ? How can I set it up to take dynamic values what I mentioned in config file ?
