T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Dynamic Join On EXECUTE Table Column
Jun 23, 2015
Not sure if this is ever going to be possible, but I'm trying to do a dynamic join on EXECUTE, but the execution string has to come from a table column.... i.e
select * from (select table1.theSql,table1.userid from table1 ) as a
I would like to provide the names of columns in an insert statement from a schema table, so that when running through a number of Bus Rule checks I can reference the schema table and only maintain the columns in the schema table rather than maintain named columns in multiple insert statements. So my query for one check looks like below. I'm using dynamic sql to execute the insert statement. My question is, is there a better way or different way to do this without using dynamic sql? Ie, Is there a way that I can use the columns parameter like this instead?
Declare @columns as nvarchar(max); Declare @InvSQL as nvarchar(max); SELECT @columns = STUFF (( SELECT ', [' + name + ']' FROM syscolumns WHERE id = OBJECT_ID('dbo.table_pvt')
Hello, I have data coming in from two sources, one being SQL and the other being Oracle. The end result needs to be a CSV file with the columns in a specific order. I have a Data Flow task setup that takes both sources and does a Merge Join on them. I can add a Sort Transformation and manually set the sorting of all 156 columns that end up going to a CSV file destination. However, I have a table setup that holds the names of the 156 columns and the order that the CSV file expects them to be in. I would much rather do this step dynamically as the column names and order may change in the future. Anyone who has used the Sort Transformation for a large number of columns knows how tedious it can be and how adding a column in the middle will cause you to change the sort # for each of the columns that come after it.
So I added a Script Component between the Merge Join and the Flat File Destination hoping that I could alter the order of the columns there. However I added the following code and found that the SortKeyPosition is ReadOnly.
Public Overrides Sub Input0_ProcessInputRow(ByVal Row As Input0Buffer)
Dim column As IDTSInputColumn90
For Each column In Me.ComponentMetaData.InputCollection(0).InputColumnCollection
column.SortKeyPosition = 1
Next
End Sub
I was hoping to add some code to get the sort index from my table for each of the columns and set it to the SortKeyPosition. Has anyone out there done this before or seen an example that might point me in the right direction? I've searched for 2 days without coming up with much.
in my table i ve the column of item code which contains '1000' ,'2000' ,'3000' series i jus wanna display the output of item codes '1000','2000'series and some of ('3000019','3000020','3000077','3000078').
i tried in my join query
these code left(itemcode,4) in ('1000','2000') or itemcode in ('3000019','3000020','3000077','3000078')
Table Master --------------------------- EmpID EffectiveDateFr Group 00001 1/1/2014 A 00001 1/5/2014 B 00001 1/9/2014 C 00001 2/1/2014 B 00001 2/20/2014 A ....
I want to create query the output should be:
EmpID TransDate Group 00001 1/1/2014 A 00001 1/2/2014 A 00001 1/3/2104 A 00001 1/4/2014 A 00001 1/5/2014 B 00001 1/6/2014 B 00001 1/15/2014 C 00001 2/1/2014 B 00001 2/2/2014 B 00001 2/20/2004 A
I am writing a SQL 2000 stored procedure which uses an €˜EXEC @sqlString€™ statement. The @sqlString is generated at runtime. I want to give as few permissions as possible and currently allow users to access the database tables using only the stored procedures provided. However, with €˜Exec€™ I discover that I need to grant permissions on the actual tables to the users or groups. I would like to avoid this. I would also prefer not having to maintain a separate user with table level permissions and hardcoding the stored procedure with these details. Is there anyway for me to dynamically generate the required SQL statement within my stored procedure and let SQL know that this stored procedure is allowed to select whatever tables it wants to without having to define permissions on the tables?
How do I pass a single column of values from a successful merge join to an EXECUTE SQL statement so it can be used with an "IN" criteria of the WHERE clause? Â Here's an example of my update statement with two random key values:
UPDATE dbo.MyTable SET MyStatus = 1 WHERE MyPK IN ("XYZ123", "DEF890")
Is this even possible in SSIS, or am I better off using a loop and running the update EXECUTE SQL Statement for each individual key value, as in the following example?
UPDATE dbo.MyTable SET MyStatus = 1 WHERE MyPK = "XYZ123" UPDATE dbo.MyTable SET MyStatus = 1 WHERE MyPK = "DEF890"
I built a query that brings in 'Discounts' (bolded) to the Order detail by using the bolded syntax below. I started off by running the query without the bolded lines and got exactly what I was looking for but without the ‘Discount’ column. When I tried to add the ‘Discount’ into the query, it duplicated several order lines. Although total ‘Discount’ column ties out to the total amount expected in that column, ‘Total Charges’ are now several times higher than before.
For example, I get 75 records when I run without the bolded syntax and I get several hundred results back when adding back in the bolded syntax when i should still be getting 75 records, just with an additional column ‘PTL Discount’ subtotaled. My question is, how to I introduce a new select or join from another table without duplicating the original data?
Table Name EmployeeInformation EmployeeID EmployeeFirstName EmployeeLastName   1       |John            |Baker   2       |Carl             |Lennon   3       |Marion           |Herbert
Table Name PeriodInformation PeriodID PeriodStart PeriodEnd   1     |1/1/14    |12/30/14   2     |1/1/15    |12/30/15
[code]...
I want a query to join all this tables based on EmployeeID, PeriodID and LeaveTypeIDÂ sum of LeaveEntitlement.LeaveEntitlementDaysNumber based on LeaveTypeID AS EntitleAnnaul and AS EntitleSick and sum AssignedLeave.AssignedLeaveDaysNumber based on LeaveTypeIDÂ Â AS AssignedAnnaul and AS AssignedSick and subtract EntitleAnnaul from AssignedAnnual based on LeaveTypeIDÂ Â AS AnnualBalance and subtract EntitleSick from AssignedSick based on LeaveTypeIDÂ Â AS SickBalance
and the table should be shown as below after executing the query
I have tried building an Inline TVF, as I assume this is how it would be used on the DB; however, I am receiving the following error on my code, I must be missing a step somewhere, as I've never done this before. I'm lost on how to implement this clr function on my db?
Error: Msg 156, Level 15, State 1, Procedure clrDynamicPivot, Line 18 Incorrect syntax near the keyword 'external'. CREATE FUNCTION clrDynamicPivot ( -- Add the parameters for the function here @query nvarchar(4000), @pivotColumn nvarchar(4000),
So to fetch the data having only special characters in it, I used below query
Select * From Table Where Column Like '%[^0-9a-zA-Z]%' Escape ' '. Its returning both the records. Here I would like to fetch records for those Unicode characters only which are not within 00201 - 0070E [URL].
I have a table with a column AttributeNumber and a column AttributeValue. The data is like this:
OrderNo. AttributeNumber AttributeValue 1.-Order_1 2001 A 2.-Order_1 2002 B 3.-Order_1 2003 C 4.-Order_2 2001 A 5.-Order_2 2002 B 6.-Order_2 2003 C
So the logic is as follows:
I need to display in my query the values are coming from Order_1, means AttributreValues coming from AttibuteNumbers: 2001,2002,2003...and Order_2 the same thing.
Not sure how to create my Select here since the values are in the same table
I am having hard time to populate dynamic column based on parameters.For eg. Parameter-->Dates : Date(1) ,Date(2),Date(3)....Date (n) (Multiple-Parameters is selected by drop down list ) Report format: Id | Currency |Country |District |Date(1)- transaction |Date(2)-transaction |Date(n) 1 | $$ |USA |123 |523238 |643763573 |62376264
Now requirement is If user enter 1 date then only single column date(1) populate if enter (n) dates then n column Date(1) ,Date(2),Date(3)....Date (n) populate. kindly suggest me any solution requirement.
I tried to bind Visibility property of column with Parameters passed. So that user can see only those column for which they pass values.I am getting error "Index was outside the bounds of the array"
I write this expression under Column(Date)-->Property-->visibility --> hidden--> expression =iif(len(Parameters!VALUEDATE.Value(1)) > "0",false,true) Kindly suggest any working solution .Thank you
I am trying to work on a database with 3 tables. To make it easier I have created a couple of temp tables to work out the syntax.
CREATE TABLE #owner ( [NameId] tinyint IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [Name] varchar(50) NOT NULL )
INSERT INTO #owner VALUES ('ME'); INSERT INTO #owner VALUES ('Other');
CREATE TABLE #propertyType ( [TypeId] tinyint IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [Name] varchar(50) NOT NULL )
INSERT INTO #propertyType VALUES ('Home'); INSERT INTO #propertyType VALUES ('Car');
CREATE TABLE #property ( [NameId] tinyint NOT NULL, [TypeId] tinyint NOT NULL, [Value] varchar(50) NOT NULL )
INSERT INTO #property VALUES (1,1, 'Blue'); INSERT INTO #property VALUES (1,2, 'Black'); INSERT INTO #property VALUES (2,1, 'Red'); INSERT INTO #property VALUES (2,2, 'Black');
DROP TABLE #owner; DROP TABLE #propertyType; DROP TABLE #property
| NameId | Name | | 1 | ME| | 2 | other |
| TypeId | Name | | 1 | Home | | 2 | Car |
| NameId | TypeId | Value | | 1 | 1 | Blue | | 1 | 2 | Black | | 2 | 1 | Red | | 2 | 2 | Black |
Where property value is some arbitrary detail. The real propertyType has 50 or 60 rows and not every property has all of the values. I am trying to create a pivot table that would look like so that I can present the data in an easier to understand format:
[Owner | Home | Car ] [ME | Blue | Black ] [Other| Red | Black ]
The propertyTypes are added often, and I don't really have the ability to change them. There is a unique constrant on property on nameid and typeid so there will never be two of the same property with the same owner. Any help would be very helpful.
Tab_Name & Load_Status columns provides the information about Name of table and status of data getting loaded to this table.
To this I would like to add a column to display the running count in the table, I mean how many records so far loaded, as below the recordCount coming from the same table tbl_collection
#MonthtoDate  temp table is created using a dynamic pivot query.Â
Data looks like this :
Account Type  1 2 3 Total Type 1 3 0 4 7 Type 2 5 7 1 13
Select @AccountType = AcctType , @Total = MonthToDate, @1 = [1], @2 = [2], @3 = [3] Â from #MonthtoDateÂ
However the issue is with [1],[2],[3] columns. Those are the number of days of the month. If today is the 3rd day of the month, we only need to show 3 days. So the final table has column [1],[2],[3] and @AccountType and @Total .
We want to run this query everyday to get the moth to date values. If we run this tomorrow, it will have 4 date columns [1], [2],[3],[4]Â and @AccountType and @Total .
update a tables value(a single column), based on a query of another database, using a common column.
Here's what I've cooked up so far:
Declare @trackingNo nvarchar (50) Set @trackingNo = ( select tracking_no from P21_Shipping.dbo.shipping_data t1 inner join P21.dbo.oe_hdr t2 on t1.order_no = t2.order_no
[Code] ...
print @trackingNoThe error it's returning is:
Msg 512, Level 16, State 1, Line 3 Subquery returned more than 1 value. This is not permitted when the subquery follows =, !=, <, <= , >, >= or when the subquery is used as an expression.
So, I'm wanting to query Shipping_data for order_No that matches the same orderNo column value in P21 Database(oe_hdr table), then update P21 oe_hdr table with "trackingNo from Shipping_data
I have two tables. They both have an identity field to join them together. One of the tables has a column of data that I want to put in the other table. I need to make sure the data is brought over using the join so it updates that column for the right record.
I am struggling with this. Should I use a update or an insert? I'm leaning toward update but I can't figure out how with the join.
This is what I have tried so far:
Update grpcon.GroupID = groups.GroupID from grpcon Inner Join groups on grpcon.GroupNum=groups.GroupNum
I am using CROSS APPLY instead of UNPIVOT to unpivot > one column. I am wondering if I can dynamically replace column names based on different tables? The example code that I have working is based on the "Allergy" table. I have thirty more specialty tables to go. I'll show the working code first, then an example of another table's columns to show differences:
select [uplift specialty], [member po],[practice unit name], [final nomination status] ,[final uplift status], [final rank], [final uplift percentage] ,practiceID=row_number() over (partition by [practice unit name] order by Metricname) ,metricname,Metricvalue, metricpercentilerank
[code]....
Rheumatology Table:The columns that vary start with "GDR" and [GDR Percentile Rank] so I'm just showing those:
Have to create SSIS package for the below requirement:
I have source data in 2 excel files. Data from both these excel files should be loaded to the same single Fact table.
The column names in excel files and table are not same. I have a Reference table which has the column mappings between excel and Fact Table.
I have to refer this Reference Tabel for column mappings, plus i have to add some derived columns (Created_Date) to load the Fact_Table.
I have given a sample data structure below:
Source Data Excel1_Order.xls OrderNumber    OrderQuantity    OrderDate Order10001            100              01-01-2011 Excel2_Customer.xls CustomerNumber     CustomerName    CustomerAddress
I'm creating a sql stored procedure inside this proc it returns some information about the user, i.e location, logged in, last logged in, etc I need to join this on to the photos table and return the photo which has been set as the profile picture, if it hasn't been set then return the first top 1 if that makes sense?
The user has the option to upload photos so there might be no photos for a particular user, which I believe I can fix by using a left join
My photos table is constructed as follows:
CREATE TABLE [User].[User_Photos]( [Id] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [UserId] [bigint] NOT NULL, [PhotoId] [varchar](100) NOT NULL, [IsProfilePic] [bit] NULL,
[Code] ....
Currently as it stands the proc runs but it doesn't return a particular user because they have uploaded a photo so I need to some how tweak the above to return null if a photo isn't present which is where I'm stuck.
Hi all,A (possibly dumb) question, but I've had no luck finding a definitiveanswer to it. Suppose I have two tables, Employees and Employers, whichboth have a column named "Id":Employees-Id-FirstName-LastName-SSNetc.Employers-Id-Name-Addressetc.and now I perform the following join:SELECT Employees.*, Employers.*FROM Employees LEFT JOIN Employers ON (Employees.Id=Employers.Id)The result-set will contain two "Id" columns, so SQL Server willdisambiguate them; one column will still be called "Id", while theother will be called "Id1." My question is, how are you supposed toknow which "Id" column belongs to which table? My intuition tells me,and limited testing seems to indicate, that it depends on the order inwhich the table names show up in the query, so that in the aboveexample, "Id" would refer to Employees.Id, while "Id1" would refer toEmployers.Id. Is this order guaranteed? Also, why does SQL Server use such a IMO brain-damaged technique tohandle column name conflicts? In MS Access, it's much morestraightforward; after executing the above query, you can use"Employees.Id" and "Employers.Id" (and more generally,"TableNameOrTableAlias.ColumnName") to refer to the specific "Id"column you want, instead of "Id" and "Id1" -- the"just-tack-on-a-number" strategy is slightly annoying when dealing withcomplex queries.--Mike S
I want to join the data to display a table that has the following information: Prod Idesc Prodchid Idesc Req Level T880A120 Assy-network 103P789 N.Resitor 1 4 T881A121 Assy-IC 275P246 IC 2 5
I got your email address from your web cast. I really enjoyed the web cast and found it to be very informative.
Our company is planning to use SSIS (VS 2005 / SQL Server 2005). I have a quick question regarding the product. I have looked for the information on the web, but was not able to find relevant information.
We are getting Source data from two of our client in the form of Excel Sheet. These Excel sheets Are generated using reporting services. On examining the excel sheet, I found out that the name Of the columns contain data itself, so the names are not static such as Jan 2007 Sales, Feb 2007 Sales etc etc. And even the number of columns are not static. It depends upon the range of date selected by the user.
I wanted to know, if there is a way to import Excel sheet using Integration Services by defining the position Of column, instead of column name and I am not sure if there is a way for me to import excel with dynamic Number of columns.
Your help in this respect is highly appreciated!
Thanks,
Hi Anthony, I am glad the Web cast was helpful.
Kamal and I have both moved on to other teams in MSFT and I am a little rusty in that area, though in general dynamic numbers of columns in any format is always tricky. I am just assuming its not feasible for you to try and get the source for SSIS a little closer to home, e.g. rather than using Excel output from Reporting Services, use the same/some form of the query/data source that RS is using.
I suggest you post a question on the SSIS forum on MSDN and you should get some good answers. http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showforum.aspx?forumid=80&siteid=1 http://forums.microsoft.com/msdn/showforum.aspx?forumid=80&siteid=1
