T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Find Alt Code Characters In Table
Feb 12, 2015
I have a table with code and description as below
create table isin_code
(
code varchar(5),
code_desc varchar(255)
)
go
insert into isin_code values ('aaa','aäsas')
go
insert into isin_code values ('aaa','as╚as')
go
insert into isin_code values ('aaa','aâsas')
go
insert into isin_code values ('aaa','asas')
go
I want to identify the list of alt codes available in the table.
So to fetch the data having only special characters in it, I used below query
Select * From Table Where Column Like '%[^0-9a-zA-Z]%' Escape ' '. Its returning both the records. Here I would like to fetch records for those Unicode characters only which are not within 00201 - 0070E [URL].
I want to create a function that searches for allowed characters within a table range (that contains the allowed characters) and replace any characters outside this range with a space.
For example -
'Bill123?', 'Jones12.z-' 'John&12/', 'QWERT123&4'
Wanted results – the single quotes are there to show the space for the replaced characters.
'Bill123 ' 'Jones12.z ' 'John&12 ' 'QWERT123 4'
Example SQL data
CREATE TABLE [Common].[AllowedCharacters] ( [Character] [varchar](1) NOT NULL, [Replacement] [varchar](10) NULL, [AlwaysInclude] [bit] NOT NULL) GO SET ANSI_PADDING OFF
[code]....
The function will wrap around the column names and I know it can be done without a table validate the characters but it must be done this way.
For example we've got a row from [Formula_Calc] table 'F1+F3' as a string that needs to be transformed as 240+160=400
The below code works for the above example but if I pick 'F11+F3' instead , returns 2561 which comes from 2401+16. Probably replaces F1 value instead of F11 and adds 1st digit (1) if I got it right ...
DECLARE @formula NVARCHAR(100); DECLARE @Total NVARCHAR(100); SET @formula = 'F11+F3';
SELECT @formula = REPLACE(@formula,RowNo,Total) FROM [Totals]
I want to find previous date from selected date. below is the sample data.
DECLARE @StartDate SMALLDATETIME = '1/11/2016'
declare @tempdat table(repdate smalldatetime) insert into @tempdat values ('10/26/2015') insert into @tempdat values ('10/29/2015') insert into @tempdat values ('11/1/2015') insert into @tempdat values ('11/27/2015') insert into @tempdat values ('11/25/2015') insert into @tempdat values ('11/20/2015') insert into @tempdat values ('11/10/2015') insert into @tempdat values ('11/10/2015') insert into @tempdat values ('11/11/2015') insert into @tempdat values ('11/11/2015')
Now if i pass the date '10/26/2015' then i want select prev date of passed date. in this example no prev date is available, so result set would be nothing.
if i pass the date '11/10/2015' then result should be '11/1/2015' which is prev small date available in table.
I have a table with data in two columns, item and system. I am trying to accomplish is we want to compare if an item exists in 1, 2 or all systems. If it exists, show item under that system's column, and display NULL in the other columns.
I have aSQL Fiddle that will allow you to visualize the schema.
The closest I've come to solving this is a SQL pivot, however, this is dependent on me knowing the name of the items, which I won't in a real life scenario.
select [system 1], [system 2], [system 3] from ( SELECT distinct system, item FROM test where item = 'item 1' ) x pivot ( max(item)
Does anyone know how to query a field in a table where it contains anASCII code >= 128 - without looping through every field for everyrecord in table (using charindex)?Ex of char I would like to find: ü which is char(252)
I have to find the latest file in a folder and export data to a table in sql server. The code should be something that has to be incorporated into a t-sql stored procedure.
The file name would for example abc_defYYYYMMDD.xls. would i be able to find the latest file in the folder using the the datestamp (YYYYMMDD) in the filename.
Please note i would have files in other format and names with datestamp attached to it, so the code has to pick specific file for which the file name starts with 'abc_def'
In my application I must store over 16000 character in a sql table field . When I split into more than 1 field it gives "unclosed quotation mark" message. How can I store over 16000 characters to sql table field (only one field) with language specific characters?
I am working with a large amount of text data in a single column. I am in the process of pumping that column of data into a delimited text file. The data in the column has new line characters that I need to remove. I need to data to be in a single line in the text file.
So far the things that I have tried are not working. What I try for removing the new line characters?
I am trying to replace all special characters in a column with one special character.
Example:
Table: dbo.Employee Column: Name Name ------- edwardneuman!"<] mikemoreno)'>$: JeffJensen"?>"
I am trying to get the namepart to the left of ANY special character. To achieve this, I am thinking of replacing all the special characters with a single special character so that I can find the first occurrence of that special character and grab left of the special character (SUBSTRING/CHARINDEX). This way I don't need to loop through all the special characters.
I am expecting the following results:
Name ------- edwardneuman<<<< mikemoreno<<<<< JeffJensen<<<<
Hello i constructed the following query in SQL management studio and it runs fine, exactly how i want it to. However when i run it in my code behind i get the error: 'Too many characters in character literal' I desperatly need to use this query exactly how it displays in the mangement tool - why wont it work the same in my code behind? (I am using c# in my code behind and binding the results of the query to a gridview) Regards "SELECT DISTINCT (dbo.AuthorList(publicationID))+ ';' + ISNULL(' Editor: '+Publication.editor, '')+ '' + ISNULL(' "'+Publication.title+'"', '')+ '' + ISNULL(' Book: "'+Publication.booktitle+'"', '')+ '' + ISNULL(' '+Publication.type, '')+ '' + ISNULL(' '+Publication.journal, '')+ '' + ISNULL(' Series: '+Publication.series+'.', '')+ '' + ISNULL(' '+Publication.school, '')+ '' + ISNULL(' '+Publication.institution, '')+ '' + ISNULL(' '+Publication.organisation, '')+ '' + ISNULL(' '+Publication.month, '')+ '' + ISNULL(' ('+convert(nvarchar, Publication.year)+')', '')+ '' + ISNULL(' '+Publication.publisher, '')+ '' + ISNULL(' '+Publication.address+'.', '')+ '' + ISNULL(' '+Publication.howpublished, '')+ '' + ISNULL(' Ed: '+convert(nvarchar, Publication.edition)+'.', '')+ '' + ISNULL(' '+Publication.note, '')+ '' + ISNULL(' Vol:'+Publication.volume+'.', '')+ '' + ISNULL(' No:'+Publication.number+'.', '')+ '' + ISNULL(' Pages:'+Publication.pages+'.', '')+ '' + ISNULL(' Chapter:'+Publication.chapter+'.', '') AS SingleColumn, Publication.publicationID FROM Publication;"
I am tryin to run an SSIS package from an Excel Spreadsheet to MS SQL Server 2005.
I receive the error: Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page (full report is below).
I found this thread: http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=2562259&SiteID=1 and have set the destination column to nvarchar(max), and I have also set the TruncationRowDisposition = RD_IgnoreFailure on the destination column, with no luck.
Any ideas? Thanks!

I have tried to extract data from Pervasive SQL into MS SQL Server using DTS. Due to the server has been set as Chinese language region, the MS SQL is also set as 'Chines_PRC_CI_AS' by default. After the successful extraction and transfer, I have exported the data out to Excel format. Due to different location, I have copy and transfer the data into another reporting server which is having MS SQL 2005.
When trying to import the data into the server, it prompted an error '[Data Conversion 1 [168]] Error: Data conversion failed while converting column "DESC" (166) to column "Copy of DESC" (187). The conversion returned status value 4 and status text "Text was truncated or one or more characters had no match in the target code page.". '. After checking and finding, I found it was due to the chinese characters that are contained inside the data files.
I have tried to change the collation setting inside MS SQL 2005 with the same setting as the MS SQL 2000, but it still not working. Please help and advice.
I'm trying to import data in Excel into SQL Server table which you would think would be an absolute doddle seeing as they're both key Microsoft products in the BI family..One of the columns in Excel spreadsheet is Comments1 and a couple of the values in this column are over 300 characters in length yet when I set up the Excel source and then open Advanced Editor and look at Input and output properties this column has a data-type of Unicode string [DT_WSTR] with length of 255 which leads to the truncated error in the title.
I've researched this and on find going into the registry and updating the TypeGuessRows value from 8 to zero. I've done this and yet the data-type is still showing as Unicode string [DT_WSTR] with length of 255. I've even moved the row with the largest number of characters to the top of the spreadsheet and changed the TypeGuessRows value to 1 but the data-type still stays the same.I can't believe that it's soooo difficult to import data from one of Microsoft's key BI applications to another using their 'world-class' integration tool.
I need to find all uses of special characters in a database. I used the following code to do this:
USE dbName GO IF OBJECT_ID('tempdb.dbo.#Results') IS NOT NULL DROP TABLE #Results GO
[code]...
This will check all tables in the database, but if you want to check specific tables you can uncomment the line in the where clause and specify tables to be checked. The query will return any text fields that have any characters other than letters, numbers or spaces.
This code works fine for me because all the tables in my database have single column primary keys. However I know how much Jeff Moden hates cursors or RBAR queries, so my question is could this have been done by any method other than using a cursor?
Within a trigger, is there a way to get the trigger's name programmatically? Like a "Me.Name" type of construct? Access to a call stack would also work as well.
I have a Transactional table containing IDs that relate to each other. The table highlights the transactions that move one ID to another, by storing an ID and a IDNew (Basically from ID to ID).
My requirement is to create a Inline Table Valued Function that will efficiently return a single ID column to show all related IDs by looking at the ID and the IDNew fields. I need to pass in a single ID to get all relations or a list of IDs through xml.
I have managed to achieve this by making use of two recursive cte's and then combining the results with union statements to create a distinct list of values.
IF OBJECT_ID (N'tempdb..#Trans', N'U') IS NOT NULL BEGIN DROP TABLE #Trans END CREATE TABLE #Trans ( TranID int identity(1,1),
Table 1: AddressBook Fields --> User Name, Address, CountryCode
Table 2: Country Fields --> Country Code, Country Name
Step 1 : I have created a Cube with these two tables using SSAS.
Step 2 : I have created a report in SSRS showing Address list.
The Column in the report are User Name, Address, Country Name
But I have no idea, how to convert this Country Code to Country name.
I am generating the report using the Layout tab. ( Data | Layout | Preview ) Report1.rdl [Design]
Anyone help me to solve this issue. Because, in our project most of the transaction tables have Code and Code description in master table. I need to convert all code into corresponding description in all my reports.
