T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Finding Rows Where User Has Access To Contents But Not Record

Mar 27, 2014

I'm got a "folder" structure application which we'll be using as an in-house directory viewer. (In case you're wondering, it doesn't relate to any "real" folders, so using xp_cmdshell is out! )

Each folder and file record can have its own permissions, however these are assumed to inherit from the parent folder if no specific access rules have been set, basically in the same way file systems work. Each file record can only have one parent, and a folder can either have a parent or be at the root level.

Right now I'm having an issue with the inheritance of permissions. Say if I want to grant access to "Folder 1" to "Group A", then "Group B" shouldn't be able to see it. However, if I grant access to "File 1" in "Folder 1" to "Group B", then "Group B" should be able to see "Folder 1", but only see "File 1" and not the rest of the contents.

I thought I could do this with a CTE, but I'm having a bit of difficulty..

Here's the code:

CREATE TABLE #FileSystem (
FSIDINTEGER NOT NULL IDENTITY(1,1) PRIMARY KEY
,ParentFSIDINTEGER NULL
,NameVARCHAR(100)
,RecordTypeVARCHAR(1)-- (F)older, or Fi(L)e

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Write Into A Table User-entered Value And Increment That Number N Times As Existing Rows

Jun 25, 2014

I need to have a script where it ask the user for a value, the script will search for all records that match the value. Then it will display the numbers of records found and ask the user to enter a different value. The rest of the script will use this new value and increment by 1 n times as the number of records found. I started the script where it will ask for "HANDLE" and display the number of records found with that "HANDLE"

declare @HANDLE as varchar(30)
declare @COUNT as varchar(10)
declare @STARTINV as varchar(20)

set @HANDLE = ?C --This is the parameter to search for records with this value
set @STARTINV = ?C --User will input the starting invoice number
SELECT COUNT as OrderCount FROM SHIPHIST
where HANDLE = @HANDLE

I just can't figure out how to proceed to use the entered invoice # and increment by 1 until it reach the number of records found.

This will be the end results:

Count=5 --results from query
STARTINV=00010 --Value entered by user

Handle,Inv_Num
AAABBB,00010
AAABBB,00011
AAABBB,00012
AAABBB,00013
AAABBB,00014

FN_DBLOG - Limitations On Columns - [RowLog Contents 0] [Log Record]

Apr 11, 2007

Although unsupported / undocumented, using FN_DBLOG(..) is inevitable.

While retrieving [RowLog Contents 0]/ [Log Record] transaction log information
I encounter a possible limitation regarding the size of the fetched data.
There is a suspect that data exceeding 8000 bytes is truncated.

I do not manage to get more than 8000 bytes - neither at the Studio Management Query pane nor with a programmatic ODBC piece of code.
There is more data for sure - no doubt about that!!

Does anybody have any idea?
Thanks

Ordering Rows For Contents

Apr 1, 2008

I have a series of records, that are displayed as contents in a .NET application,i know i can order the items to be dynamic, i.e I set the top item in the contents,
However I know this will get quite messy at the application level.

I would like to set up the default if I insert an item, into the table to make it the last in the list, select max(ordernum) + 1, i guess?

How can I set an on insert constraint, or what its called for this in SQL Server?

Comparing Contents Of One Row To Multiple Rows In Another Table?

Jul 31, 2007

Hi,

I've a bunch of records that may contain data that I'm after. For example:

This is a fake title [electronic resource]. 1997.

I have a very small table (~10 rows) of things like '[electronic resource]'

Is there any way to see if my record contains any of the 'target' items in the other table?

Finding Rows With Missing Related Rows

Apr 2, 2008

Hi, I need to write a query which I have never attempted before and could do with some help.... I have a Groups table and a Users_Groups look up table. In this model, users can only be assigned to 1 group. If a group is deleted, a trigger should fire and delete any rows in User_Groups having a matching Groups.Ref. Unfortunately, the trigger hasn't been firing and I now have a load of defunct rows in Users_Groups relating users to groups which do not exist.I now need to find all of these defunct rows in Users_Groups so that I can delete them. How can I find rows in Users_Groups where the parent rows and refs in Groups are null? I've tried searching the net for something similar but don't even know how to word the search properly to get any half relevant results. Cheers PS, I do realise I need to tighten the constraints on my database

Checking Contents Of Column And Replacing Contents If First Character Is A Letter

Jun 25, 2007

Hi All,I have come up against a wall which i cannot get over.I have an sql db where the date column is set as a varchar (i know, should have used datetime but this was done before my time and i've got to work with what is there). The majority of values are in the format dd/mm/yyyy. However, some values contain the word 'various'.I'm attempting to compare the date chosen on a c# .net page with the values in the db and also return all the 'various' values as well.I have accomplished casting the varchar to a datetime and then comparing to the selected date on the .net page. However, it errors when it comes across the 'various' entrant. Is there anyway to carry out a select statement comparing the start_date values in the db to the selected date on the .net page and also pull out all 'various' entrants at the same time without it erroring? i thought about replacing the 'various' to a date like '01/01/2010' so it doesn't stumble over the none recognised format, but am unsure of how to do it.This is how far i have got: casting the varchar column to datetime and comparing.  SELECT * FROM table1 WHERE Cast(SUBSTRING(Start_Date,4,2) + '/' + SUBSTRING(Start_Date,1,2) + '/' +SUBSTRING(Start_Date,7,4) as datetime)  '" + date + "'"Many thanks in advance!

I am getting error as max accepts one argument, I cannot use case statement as table is already bulky and it will make my query more expensive.

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Finding Gaps Within Date Ranges

Example dataset SQL below:

CREATE TABLE #test (daterow int identity, obj_id int, datestart DATETIME, dateend DATETIME)
INSERT INTO #test
SELECT 1, '20130428', '20130523'
UNION
SELECT 1, '20130526', '20130823'

[Code] ....

I would expect a dataset to be returned consisting of:

1, 24/05/2013, 25/05/2013
1, 24/08/2013, 25/08/2013
2, 16/05/2013, 24/05/2013

I have found a lot of examples of problems where I have just a single date column, and then I find the gaps in between that, but I'm having difficulty finding examples where it works with start and end date columns...

Finding If A Record Exists In Either Of Two Tables

Hello,

I have two tables with the same field layout, and they both have the same field as the Primary Key. They just contain different data. I would like to know if a record exists in one, or both, tables.

The tables are InvTemp1 and SalesTemp1. The key for both is stock_number.

Here is the command so far:

SELECT COUNT(*)

FROM InvTemp1 INNER JOIN SalesTemp1 ON InvTemp1.Stock_number = SalesTemp1.Stock_number

WHERE (InvTemp1.Stock_number = '101053')

Thank you for any ideas,

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Finding The Item Filled In Prior To Current One

May 13, 2015

I have data similar to the below

CREATE TABLE #TEMP
(
TYPE VARCHAR(10),
SEQ INT,
SUB_TYPE VARCHAR(10))

[Code] ....

Now for each type the seq is very important. Effectively by order of seq the subtype stays the same until another subtype changes it. So for TYPE1 100,110 and 150 are A. 170, 200,220 are B. 230 and 250 are C and so on.

However as you can see the data isnt actually stored in the row. I need a select statement that shows this data.

I have done this:

SELECT t1.*,t3.SUB_TYPE FROM #TEMP t1
CROSS APPLY
(SELECT MAX(SEQ) SEQ FROM #TEMP AS t2 WHERE t1.SEQ >= t2.seq AND t2.SUB_TYPE <>'' AND t1.TYPE = t2.TYPE
GROUP BY t2.TYPE) t2
INNER JOIN
#TEMP t3
ON t3.TYPE = t1.TYPE AND t2.SEQ = t3.SEQ

And it seems to work. Is this the easiest way to do it or am i missing something?
