Hello,I am currently trying to assign some string to a TEXT output parameterof a stored procedure.The basic structure of the stored procedure looks like this:-- 8< --CREATE PROCEDURE owner.StoredProc(@blob_data image,@clob_data text OUTPUT)ASINSERT INTO Table (blob_data, clob_data) VALUES (@blob_data, @clob_data);GO-- 8< --My previous attempts include using the convert function to convert astring into a TEXT data type:SET @clob_data = CONVERT(text, 'This is a test');Unfortunately, this leads to the following error: "Error 409: Theassignment operator operation cannot take a text data type as an argument."Is there any alternative available to make an assignment to a TEXToutput parameter?Regards,Thilo

Note: @procName,@strAccount,@intHospital,@patType are passed to this procedure from another procedure
Note: The @procname procedure also takes the above parameters and @outDupCheck as output parameter
DECLARE @sqlStr NVARCHAR(500)
DECLARE @ParmDefinition NVARCHAR(500)
DECLARE @parmINAccount VARCHAR(30),@parmINHospId int , @ParmINpatType varchar(1)
DECLARE @parmRET1 int
SET @parmINAccount = @strAccount
SET @parmINHospId = @intHospital
SET @ParmINpatType = @patType
SET @sqlStr = N'Exec ' + @procName + ' @strAccount,@intHospital,@patType, @outDupCheck OUTPUT'
SET @ParmDefinition=N'@strAccount varchar(50),@intHospital int,@patType varchar(1), @outDupCheck int OUTPUT';
EXECUTE sp_executesql @sqlStr, @ParmDefinition, @strAccount = @parmINAccount, @intHospital=@parmINHospId,@patType=@ParmINpatType,@outDupCheck = @parmRET1
SELECT @parmRET1
--The parameter @parmRET1 returns NULL instead of 1 .
The @procName returns value 1 correctly if I run it separately ( outside of the dynamic sql)
Not sure what is wrong here...

Hi all,
I'm trying to build a Where clause in a stored procedure based on the information that is passed into the stored procedure. Because I don't know how many items will be passed into the stored procedure, I'm having to split the string on a specific character and build the Where clause based on how many strings are found.
However, when I try to execute the Where clause it throws an error.
Code Snippet
ALTER PROCEDURE getUsersAddress
-- Add the parameters for the stored procedure here
@LName varchar(1000)
@City varchar(1000),
@State varchar(1000),
@License varchar(1000)
AS
declare @Count as int
declare @x as int
declare @wLName as varchar(2000)
declare @wCityas varchar(2000)
declare @wStateas varchar(2000)
declare @wLicense as varchar(2000)
BEGIN
-- SET NOCOUNT ON added to prevent extra result sets from
-- interfering with SELECT statements.
SET NOCOUNT ON;
if right(rtrim(@LName),1) <> ';'
begin
set @LName = @LName + ';'
end
set @Count = PATINDEX('%;%',@LName)
set @wLName = '(tblUsers.LName = '''
while @Count <> 0
begin
set @wLName = @wLName + left(@LName, @Count - 1)
set @LName = stuff(@LName, 1, @Count, '')
set @Count = PATINDEX('%;%',@LName);
if @Count <> 0
begin
set @wLName = @wLName + ''') OR (tblUsers.LName = '''
end
else
begin
set @wLName = @wLName + ''')'
end
end
print cast(@wLName as varchar(5000))
-- Insert statements for procedure here
SELECT
tblUsers.FullName,
tblUsers.Addy1,
tblUsers.Addy2,
tblUsers.City,
tblState.StateAbbr,
tblUsers.Zip,
tblUsers.Zip4
FROM
tblUsers
INNER JOIN tblState ON tblUsers.FK_StateID = tblState.StateID
INNER JOIN tblUserDetails ON tblUsers.UserID = tblUserDetails.FK_UserID
WHERE
(@wLName) OR
(tblUsers.City = @City) OR
(tblState.StateAbbr = @State) OR
(tblUserDetails.CDLType = @License)
END
So when I print do an exec getUsersAddress 'Johnson;Smith', 'City;Test City', 'TX;OK', 'Class A;Class B'
@wLName comes out as (tblUsers.LName = 'Johnson') OR (tblUsers.LName = 'Smith')
However, I can't save the procedure as it gives me an error of:
An expression of non-boolean type specified in a context where a condition is expected, near 'OR'.
When I copy and paste the @wLName value in place of @wLName in the Where clause it works, so how can I get the @wLName variable to work in that Where clause?

I'm calling a procedure on a remote Server (local SQL2005, remote SQL2005) and I need the return value.
Local:
declare @value int execute ('exec mbtest1.dbo.psybcis ?', @value OUTPUT) at [REMOTESQLSERVER] select @value
Remote:
create procedure [dbo].[psybcis] (@value int OUTPUT) as begin select @value = '13' end
I do not get a value in the OUTPUT variable - just NULL. Documentation says:
Execute a pass-through command against a linked server
{ EXEC | EXECUTE } ( { @string_variable | [ N ] 'command_string [ ? ] ' } [ + ...n ] [ { , { value | @variable [ OUTPUT ] } } [ ...n ] ] ) [ AS { LOGIN | USER } = ' name ' ] [ AT linked_server_name ] [;]
There is an OUTPUT parameter, but how does it work? Is my syntax wrong?
It works when using following syntax,
declare @value int exec [REMOTESQLSERVER].mbtest1.dbo.psybcis @value OUTPUT select @value
but I need to use this procedure call in a distributed transaction to a Sybase ASE server and this syntax is not allowed for cross-system-calls.
So first I want to get it work from SQL2005 to SQL2005.

Hello,
I am struggling with this, having read many msdn articles and posts I am non the wiser. I have a sproc with an output parameter @regemail. I can call the sproc OK from my code as below, via a tableadapter. And the sproc works as desired from management studio express. I want to get the result returned in the OUTPUT parameter (NOT the Return Value) and place it in a variable. Can anyone advise how I can do this? J.
THE CODE I USE TO CALL THE SPROC
Dim tableAdapter As New DataSet1TableAdapters.RegistrationTableAdaptertableAdapter.SPVerifyUser(strRegGuid, String.Empty)
THE STORED PROCEDURECREATE Proc [prs_VerifyUser
@regid uniqueidentifier,@regemail nvarchar(250) OUTPUT

Return 1
END

I have a stored procedure that returns XML using FOR XML Explicit. I need to use the output of this procedure in another procedure, and modify the xml output before it is saved somewhere.
Say StoredProc1 is the one returning xml output and StoredProc2 needs to consume the output of StoredProc1
I declared a nvarchar(max) variable and trying to saved the result of StoredProc1
Declare @xml nvarchar(max)
EXEC @xml = StoredProc1 @Id
This doesn't work as expected as @xml doesn't get any value assigned or rather I would say
EXEC @xml = StoredProc1 @Id
outputs the entire xml whereas it should just save the xml in a variable.

find below object and data:
create table #StuDetails(City varchar(25),StuStatus varchar(25), currentValue int,Week1 int,week2 int,week3 int,week4 int)
insert into #StuDetails values('A','new',13,10,0,0,12)
insert into #StuDetails values('B','Old',10,10,41,0,12)
insert into #StuDetails values('C','Fail',10,9,0,0,5)
select * from #StuDetails
Output of above is display as:
CityStuStatuscurrentValueWeek1week2week3week4
Anew 13 10 0 0 12
BOld 10 10 41 0 12
CFail 10 9 0 0 5
Now for columns Week1 to week3 if value is 0 then i want to display by searching next week value, if it is also 0 then go for next week and if value found there then display instead of zero. so my output would be as below instead of above.
CityStuStatuscurrentValueWeek1week2week3week4
Anew 13 10 12 12 12
BOld 10 10 41 12 12
CFail 10 9 5 5 5

Hi all,
I'm trying to capture the OUTPUT from Execute Sql task...However when I run, the parameter didn't seem to capture the OUTPUT.
In my Sql Task, the parameter mapping:
Variable name: user::variable,
direction: OUTPUT,
Data Type: Varchar,
parameter name: 0,
parameter size: -1
connectiontype: OleDB
sourcetype: direct input
statement ELECT columnx FROM table1 WHERE (columnID=
(SELECT MAX(columnID) ASID
FROM table1 A)
I could be misunderstood on how Execute sql task work on Output.
thanks

How do I assign XmlDocument results to a variable (so that I can pass it to a sp)?
I know that the following code works....
select * from tblUsers where userId = 1225 for XML raw
It returns "<row UserId="1225" LastName="Evans" FirstName="Stephanie" MiddleInitial=...."), which is what I want. But when I try to assign it, I get an error "Incorrect syntax near 'XML'."
declare @strXml nvarchar(1000)
set @strXml = (select * from tblUsers where userId = 1225 for XML raw)
Ideas?

Thanks in advance.

I'm using a stored procedure to create a table in sql 2000. One of the columns is an identity column. I need to set the seed to a max(number) from a column in another table, this column is not an identity column and can't be changed into one. I've been trying to set the seed by passing a variable. I continue to get errors so either I've got the syntax wrong or it's not possible to set the seed via a variable. Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

TIA for that,

Hi
I want to use a variable in a number of SQL statements as paramenter. But I am not sure how to assign the value I want to the variable. The value I want is the maximum week number from one of my tables. I know how to put this value into a new table (which is one field and One row), but I cannot see how to pass this value to my variable. Using the table in my SQL is not straight forward unfortunately, at least not for me.

Greeting.
I have a dataset (ORDER BY Column1) like the following in the data flow task pipeline
Column1 Column2
1 A
1 B
2 C
2 F
3 T
3 R
3 X
4 M
I only need data of 1, A;
2, C;
3, T
4, M
That is when Column1 value changes. I think we can store the column1 value in a variable as a previous row value. Then I can compare the variable value with the current row value and see if the column1 value changes. Can anyone please help me how to implement this? Or if there is other way to implement it
.
Thanks.

Hello,
Could anyone help me please,
I need a select to add the results into a variable of type string
id(int) name (varchar2)
1 a
2 b,c
3 d,e,f,g
tried wit the following:
DECLARE @variable1
SELECT @variable1 = name
FROM table
The problem with this sentece is that the only value assigned to @variable1 is the last row value, i.e.
@variable1 = "d,e,f,g"
What I need is to concatenate all values returned by the query, i.e.
@variable1 = "a,b,c,d,e,f,g"
