Can we insert into multiple table using merge statement?I'm using SQL Server 2008 R2 and below is my MERGE query...
-> I'm checking if the record exist in Contact table or not. If it exist then I will insert into employee table else I will insert into contact table then employee table.

I have 3 tables: CUSTOMER, SALES_HEADER, SALES_DETAIL and there are no relationships / keys between these tables.
I want to INSERT into SALES_HEADER from CUSTOMER & SALES_DETAIL. Here is the query I used.
insert into sales_header (SALES_ID, CUST_ID, SALES_AMOUNT)
select SALES_DETAIL.sales_id, SUM(SALES_DETAIL.prod_price) as sales_amount, CUSTOMER.CUST_ID
from SALES_DETAIL, CUSTOMER
where SALES_HEADER.sales_id = CUSTOMER.cust_id
group by sales_detail.SALES_ID, CUSTOMER.cust_id;
It shows parsed correctly, but giving error: The multi-part identifier "SALES_HEADER.CUST_ID" could not be bound. How to insert from multiple tables when there are no primary / foreign keys & relationships.

So i need to show available appointment with duration one hour with the available schedule which is for every five minutes

I use the merge statement in a sproc to insert, update and delete records from a staging table to a production table.
In the long sql, here is a part of it,
When Matched and

My question is how about if the column has null values in it.for example
if schoolID is null in production table is null, but in staging table is not null, will the <> return true.or if either side of <> has a null value, will it return true.
I don't want it to omit some records and causing the students records not get updated.If not return true, how to fix this?

I've have a need with SQL Server 2005 (so I've no MERGE statement), I have to merge 2 tables, the target table has 10 fields, the first 4 are the clustered index and primary key, the source table has the same fields and index.Since I can't use the MERGE statement (I'm in SQL 2005) I have to make a double step operation, and INSERT and an UPDATE, I can't figure how to design the WHERE condition for the insert statement.

I'm using a Merge statement to update/insert values into a table. The Source is not a table, but the parameters from a Powershell script. I am not using the Primary Key to match on, but rather the Computer Name (FullComputerName).
I am looking on how-to return the Primary Key (ComputerPKID) of an updated record as "chained" scripts will require a Primary Key, new or used.As an aside: the code below does return the newly generated Primary Key of an Inserted record.

I would like to have a 'counter' table which will hold the last used number and return a new number. This is my schema:

If the table is empty it returns 1 else it returns the next number (Id + 1). But this query is not atomic (i guess...?) so it could evaluate that the #Counter table is empty and then try to insert into the table, but inbetween someone else executes the insert also. Could this query be rewritten with the merge statement so that the whole operation is atomic?

I am trying to insert new records into the target table, if no records exist in the source table. I am passing user specific values for insert, but it does not insert any values, nor does it throw any errors. The insert needs to occur in the LOAN_GROUP_INFO table, i.e. the target table.

I am trying to update values in two tables (approx 1-2 million records).
I have decided to use a MERGE statement, however have been unsuccessful to do so.
Below is an example of the statement.
The error is receive is "Incorrect syntax near '('." right after the MERGE line.

Hello,
i have a little question.
Is it possible you can't perform an insert statement on a table wich is replicated with merge replication?
I set the replication up and everything works fine, but if i want to perfom an insert statement on the table, i get an error that the values i want to add aren't the same as the one in the table.
I know that merge replication creates a new column and I think that's the problem.
Can someone help me solve this or confirm that you can't perform an insert statement on a replicated table?

I am currently having this problem with gridview and detailview. When I drag either onto the page and set my select statement to pick from one table and then update that data through the gridview (lets say), the update works perfectly. My problem is that the table I am pulling data from is mainly foreign keys. So in order to hide the number values of the foreign keys, I select the string value columns from the tables that contain the primary keys. I then use INNER JOIN in my SELECT so that I only get the data that pertains to the user I am looking to list and edit. I run the "test query" and everything I need shows up as I want it. I then go back to the gridview and change the fields which are foreign keys to templates. When I edit the templates I bind the field that contains the string value of the given foreign key to the template. This works great, because now the user will see string representation instead of the ID numbers that coinside with the string value. So I run my webpage and everything show up as I want it to, all the data is correct and I get no errors. I then click edit (as I have checked the "enable editing" box) and the gridview changes to edit mode. I make my changes and then select "update." When the page refreshes, and the gridview returns, the data is not updated and the original data is shown. I am sorry for so much typing, but I want to be as clear as possible with what I am doing. The only thing I can see being the issue is that when I setup my SELECT and FROM to contain fields from multiple tables, the UPDATE then does not work. When I remove all of my JOIN's and go back to foreign keys and one table the update works again. You can see - User select 3 Menu, which is the Menu Id is 1, 4, 10.If the Parent Id for Menu is 0, there is 1 record only to insert. If the Parent Id for Menu != 0, we've to make sure the Insert statement will insert the Parent Menu automatically
Based on Photo Above, there's 3 Menu is selected. But, in back-end - Insert statement will insert 4 record. Please see Menu Id = 10. The Parent Id = 9. So, we need to insert Menu Id = 9 automatically into myInsertedMenu table

I would like to provide the names of columns in an insert statement from a schema table, so that when running through a number of Bus Rule checks I can reference the schema table and only maintain the columns in the schema table rather than maintain named columns in multiple insert statements. So my query for one check looks like below. I'm using dynamic sql to execute the insert statement. My question is, is there a better way or different way to do this without using dynamic sql? Ie, Is there a way that I can use the columns parameter like this instead?

I am trying to figure out an automated way to get a list of all the tables used in a set of 275 T-SQL scripts. i do not want to go through each script manually, look at all the from clauses and write down the tables used.
I have managed to get all the 275 scripts into a table on SQL Server 2008 R2 database. one column per each script, so there are 275 rows in the table.
FYI: each query can have multiple result sets, so multiple from clauses can exist.
For Example:
Query 1 = SELECT * FROM Table1 a
INNER JOIN Table2 b ON b.Field = a.Field
LEFT OUTER JOIN Table3 c ON c.Filed = b.Field

I have a flat file that I want to merge with table in SQL server 2005.
1> I have successfully created a data flow task to import data from flat file to Table X (new table I created for this package).
Now here is my question.
I have a Table A already in the database with the same column structure as of TableX (Both the tables have 20 columns/same Name/Same design).
I want to merge Table A and Table X and stored the data in TableA. However, I just don't want to merge blindly, I need to insert a new row in Table A only if the same row does not exist in Table A (there is no primary key, i am looking certain fields to see if the rows are same)..
Here is an example:

I think, I could do this using Execute SQL task and write all the code in sql, but that will be cumbersome and time consuming.. Is there a simpler way to achieve this?

Radio button lists - Customer satisfaction questions 1-5
Multiline textbox - other comments.
I want to insert textbox, dropdown menu into a db table, then insert each question score into a score column with each question having an ID.
I envisage to do this I will need an insert query for the textbox and dropdownlist and then an insert for each question based on ID and score.

I need to be able to bulk insert a bunch of tables from their corresponding flat file. I have created an XML file (see below) which has the file name/table name pair at each node. I then created a ForEachLoop task and used the Node enumeration type and the following OuterXpathString: ReferenceFiles/File. At this point I get lost. How do I pass the 2 inside node values (file name and table name) to variables which I can then use as expressions for the bulk insert task inside the Foreach?

INSERT INTO table (col_a,col_b) VALUES (1,1)

the first select statement for works fine, but the second one and all after i get a syntax error near 'select'.
this is just a shortened version of the statement. how would i run select statements for a table to be inserted into with different column names. also with items that are hard coded like the 'null'. thanks

I have three tables:
1. RubricReport 2. RubricReportDetail and 3. RubricReportTemplate
RubricReportDetail has columns ReportID and Age
RubricReportTemplate has columns IndicatorID and Salary
I want to insert a row in RubricReport Table with ReportID = @ReportID (RubricReportDetail) and IndicatorID = @IndicatorID (of RubricReportTemplate). How can I do this?
