Hello All,
I have created a database on my local machine using SQL Server Express 2005. I am trying to export data from an excel file into a table in this database but when i see tasks available for the database there is no option of import data like I assume there should.
Only the following options are visible.
Detach
Shrink
Back Up
Restore
Generate Scripts
Any solutions on how I can get my excel file into the table.

Hello,
I have several reports that use parameters that I have defined as multi-value. When I am designing the reports I see the "(Select All)" option listed first in each parm control that has the multi-value property set true. However, when the same reports are deployed to our server and viewed through Report Manager, the "(Select All)" option is missing. I need the "(Select All)" to be present.
I've seen some discussion of a service pack. Could this be the problem? What do we need to do to get our "(Select All)" back?
Thanks,
BCB
As SQL Server 2016 category is not created so I am posting this query in SQL Server 2014 window.
I have enabled Query Store in SQL Server 2016 using ALTER DATABASE and later tried with Properties of Database too. But I am not able to see the Query Store subfolder under database.
I know ran across this some time ago when researching some other topic, but I would like to add an option to our stored procedures (which have multiple parameters) so a user could do something like:
EXEC dbo.usp_MyStoredProcedure - EXEC dbo.usp_MyStoredProcedure -?
The result would just list the parameters in the stored procedure and the options available for each parameter/what the parameter was use for.
Here is an example of one stored procedure in use:
CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_MyStoredProcedure]
( @BCP INT = 0---- 0 [Default]: No BCP Import, 1: Insert TempBCP Data
, @Debug INT = 0---- 0 [Default]: Run process, 1: Create temp tables, run queries
, @StartDate smalldatetime = '1/1/1900' ---- Enter StartDate; [Default]: otherwise use Max of Invoice date
, @Date INT = 0 ---- 0 [Default]: Use std process (get last Saturday date from @StartDate), 1: Use @StartDate as is
)
WITH EXECUTE AS 'ADBAccount'
AS
BEGIN
....
END
So I started a new job recently and have noticed a few strange configurations. Typically I would never mess with min memory per query option and index create memory option configuration because i just haven't seen any need to. My typical thought is that if it isn't broke... They have been modified on every single server in my environment.
From Books Online:
• This option is an advanced option and should be changed only by an experienced database administrator or certified SQL Server technician.
• The index create memory option is self-configuring and usually works without requiring adjustment. However, if you experience difficulties creating indexes, consider increasing the value of this option from its run value.
Hi everyone In my SqlServer Management Studio Express, on start up it shows the server type option, but greyed.So that value is fixed to database engine. ( I'm trying to work on an SqlServer Compact Edition database through the SSMStudiothat's why I'm trying to get this to change.)Besides, after I connect i go to the Object Explorer, expand the server node, and go to Replication.When i expand replication, i get the "Local Subscription" option, but nothng for Publication.( I want to work on Merge Replication, that's why I desparately need Publication to work)Am i missing something here? I did not install SqlServer separately, I only have what comes bundled with the Visual Studio 2005 Setup.

I have created some tables and relationships between them by using MS SQL Server Management Studio Express.
The relationships are between a field named OId, which is not a part of the primary key but it is typed as an unique key. And a field named ParentTableOId.
When I open the two tables that have this relationship in the "Design Query in Editor" is not the relationship there.
Anybody who knows why?
Best Regards

I am in the process of develping a MSRS report using an MSAS 2005 OLAP cube as my data source. In the MSRS Query Builder, I am using an MDX query which successfully executes in Management Studio. Something like the following:
SELECT
NON EMPTY { [Measures].[Fact Count] }
ON COLUMNS,
NON EMPTY{ ( [Dim Attribute].[Hierarchy Not Visible].ALLMEMBERS) } DIMENSION PROPERTIES MEMBER_CAPTION, MEMBER_UNIQUE_NAME
ON ROWS
FROM [MyCube]
CELL PROPERTIES VALUE, BACK_COLOR, FORE_COLOR, FORMATTED_VALUE, FORMAT_STRING, FONT_NAME, FONT_SIZE, FONT_FLAGS
The twist is that the AttributeHierarchyVisible property of the [Dim Attribute].[Hierarchy Not Visible] is set to False.
As mentioned previously, the query successfully executes in Management Studio. However when it is executed in the MSRS Query Builder, the following error message is displayed:
The query cannot be prepared: The query must have at least one axis. The first axis of the query should not have multiple hierarchies, nor should it reference any dimension other than the Measures dimension..
Parameter name: mdx (MDXQueryGenerator)
Is there a way to successfully query dimension attributes whose hierarchies are not visible?
Thanks.
We have 1000s of SSRS reports hosted on the SQL 2008 R2. All reports are supposed to have all parameters "hidden". Random reports have been reported to expose the parameter when developers accidently deploy to test servers. Is there a way to identify the reports and the parameter property (Hidden, Visible, Internal) from the Report server Database?
I checked executionlog2 but can not find the parameter property.
- When I disable "allow remote connections to this server" from server properties>connection page, I can still remotely connect to the server from SSMS...so what is the impact of enable/disabling it?
- what is the impact of changing the remote query timeout (on the same page) from default value?
I can't seem to make the SQL Server visible to anything other then SQL Server Tools. (management Studio, etc.)
Neither Visual Studio 2005, or Administrative Tools/Data Sources can view or connect with my SQL Server.
I need help, Thank you.
Say I have to server, A and B.
Now I want to write a stored procedure in server A, to retrieve data from server B.
How could I manage to do that?
I'm trying to write a function that will retrieve the last backup date/time of a particular database on a remote server (i.e. by querying msdb.dbo.backupset). Unfortunately, you can't use sp_executesql in a function, so I can't figure out a way to pass the server name to the query and still be able to return the datetime value back to the calling TSQL code (so that rules out using EXEC().

Hi,
I am trying to load data from sql server to sybase. SQL Server is our source databse and I want to do this task in unix server using isql and bcp options.
I want to limit the changes on source tables and also I cannot use DTS or SSIS since we dont own SQL server.
Does any have any idea how to use query option in bcp. It is not direct table load. I need to run select statements with Joins in it.
Any ideas on how to script run and save results in to file and then bcp in to our sybase server.
I am not suposed to craete any views on source db. So just need to run sql statements and take the results to text file.

I have created a new database using Visual Web Developer and wanted to manage it using either the SQL Server Management Tool or MS Access via ODBC.
Niether of these tools will connect to the database.
The database file , called srx.mdf, the connection string is
Data Source=.SQLEXPRESS;AttachDbFilename=C:InetpubwwwrootSRExchangeApp_Datasrx.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True
I can however connect successfully to the master file, the conenction string for this is
Data Source=.sqlexpress;Integrated Security=True
Any help appreciated.
I need to find a way to identify SPIDS where queries are connected to certain databases using the 4 dot notation instead of actually being connected to the database in question.
For instance, I connect and my default database is MASTER. In MASTER, instead of typing USE MyDb ahead of my query, I just type my query as:
SELECT Col1, Col2
FROM MyDB.dbo.MyTable
The above is the simple scenario. We usually have queries connecting 3 or 4 user dbs together. So database1 might have a query pointing to database2. What I need is a way to identify the SPIDS that are connecting to database2 despite being in database1.
In TSQL, is there a way to 'Set' the query option results in text as the head of my sql statement?
kind of tired of hit contol+t to get the text result.
also, when I
print '@dateStart--' + cast(@dateStart as varchar(30))
I don't get seconds and I even need mis.
Is there a simple way instead of a combination of datepart() to get ss, mis?
thanks

Does anyone know how to diable the File => Connect option in Query Analyzer?
Thanks
Clarification:
The situation is that I have several users on an application that controls their access to the DB. The user ID has full rights to the DB but the application stops them from making changes to data. Now I have a user that needs to be able to create and run SELECT statements in a “Query Analyser” type of environment. I can publish a Query Analyser session with locked credentials using Citrix, but I don’t want him to be able to use the File => Connect option to reconnect with one of the application Ids thus giving him full rights in an open environment.
Any ideas?
Thanks
I have a Managers table in my SQL DB and it has a ManagerID, MgrName and MgrPhoto field base...
I can code a form with a select button that displays a drop down with the managers in it as choices, but am a little confused as to how I would make the PHOTO (MgrPhoto) change to the corresponding ManagerID that is selected from that option drop down since the SELECT CODE in the form only queries the ManagerID / MgrName combo for the choice.. The photo is below that drop down box and how to make it change to whatever photo is assigned to the selected ManagerID / MgrName ?
Here is the form code with query :
<form enctype="multipart/form-data" action="updatemanagerphoto.php" method="POST">
<select name="ManagerID" id="manager" style="width:400px" class="form_textbox">
<?
$db_connect= mysql_connect($db_host, $db_username, $db_password);
mysql_select_db($db_name, $db_connect) || die(mysql_error());
$sql_query= "SELECT * FROM Managers ORDER BY MgrName ASC";

i name the file and it executes properly but when i try to restore that file to my local db that path is not even visible to me.In fact when i use exploreer I cannot even find the folders after Microsoft SQL Server!I search for .bak but nothing.How can I see that folder construction in the sql browser but never in explorer -
I am wondering if I can show the Excel window when the SQL server agent job runs. The SSIS package contains a script task that opens Excel and does some formatting. I just need to monitor the formatting of these Excel files.

I have a query. Here are the steps:
1. I created a maintenance plan using Visual Studio 2013 (nothing fancy pretty basic)
2. Using ssms 2014 I imported it (the dtsx file) under the Integration Services and it appeared there successfully
3. I connected to the Database Engine again using ssms 2014 - my expectation was to see it under the Management > Maintenance Plans folder but it was not present.
I want to turn on the query governor cost limit option for 20 minutes so that queries do not run longer than 20 minutes but I could not find any info as if this option would also not allow database backup job or other maintenance jobs to run more than 20 minutes. We have backups (Via RedGate) run over 3.5 hours and others like rebuild indexes and integrity checks even more than 3.5 hours....

First off, I apologize for not knowing what I'm talking about and being long winded. I'm trying to determine if SQL Server Express is an option for a client of mine. Their needs are beginning to go beyond what I'm comfortable with in Access, so I'm looking into the option of upgrading to a SQL Server Express back-end with a VB front-end.
Access doesn't require any setup beyond "File, new", so I know nothing about the background work required to get a database running on a platform like SQL Server.
My first concern is what kind of network admin rights do I need to install & use SSE..
It's unlikely that her IT group will just hand us the keys to any of their servers, so all we really have available is what we can put on her network drives. Am I right in assuming that using a SQL Server database would involve more network privileges than just dropping a file on the network and pointing my front end app at it?
With that said, I think I remember seeing something on one of the MSDN pages about setting up a database to run off of a CD-Rom. Could I somehow use this capability to get what I need?
