Calling Stored Procs Based On A Code Table

Sep 8, 2006

I need to run stored procs based on a list in a code table. In other words, it reads the name of a stored proc from a table and runs it and does this for all the rows in the table. I think the ForEach loop container will do what I need and there is an ADO enumerator option but the documentation does not tell you how to use this. From what I can tell, you need to get a dataset into an SSIS variable first and then you plug the variable name into the ForEach ADO enumerator. Is that correct? If so, can someone tell me how to get a dataset into a variable?

Thanks

Search For A Table/string Within Job Steps, Dts, Database, Stored Procedures Etc

May 16, 2007

Hi All :A couple of tables have been identified to be deleted. My job is tofind if it is at all used.On searching the web, i found a proc to search for a string within alldatabases in a server.using system sproc : sp_msforeachdbit searches for a string inviews, sprocs, functions, check constraints, defaults, foreign key, scalar function, inlined tablefunction, primary key, 'Replicationfilter stored procedure, System table, Table function, Trigger, 'Usertable, 'UNIQUE constraint''Extended stored procedure'So it is pretty extensive. But i dont think it is covering the codewithin execsqltasks in DTS, and tsql code within JOB STEPS. Those arethe two more places where code exists in my server. If any of you have done so in the past, do let me know if there is asystem stored proc or code that you have written, to do the samethanksRSLink to the above procedurehttp://www.sql-server-performance.c...ase_objects.asp

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Distribute Data Into Groups Based On Existing Numbers?

Aug 11, 2014

i've been looking at moving one of our processed from excel (+vba) into t-sql to make life easier but am stuck.

We have lots of tasks that are assigned to work groups which we want to distribute evenly across the work groups. This is a simple task for ntile.. However when these tasks are no longer required they are removed which leaves the groups uneven. When new tasks are added we want to still try to keep these groups balanced.

EG Existing groups :

GroupName - Task Count
Group1 - 1000
Group2 - 999
Group3 - 998

If we were to add 6 new tasks they would have more assigned to Group 2 & 3 as they have less than group 1.

Task 1 - Group3
Task 2 - Group3
Task 3 -Group2
Task 4 - Group1
Task 5 - Group2
Task 6 - Group3
Sample tables
Create table GroupTable
(GroupID int, Name varchar(200) )
Insert into GroupTable values (1,'Group1')
Insert into GroupTable values (2,'Group2')
Insert into GroupTable values (3,'Group3')

Create table Jobs(jobid int identity(1,1), name varchar(100),Groupid int)

--Existing tasks

Insert into Jobs(name,Groupid) values ('Task1',1)
Insert into Jobs(name,Groupid) values ('Task2',1)
Insert into Jobs(name,Groupid) values ('Task3',1)
Insert into Jobs(name,Groupid) values ('Task4',1)
Insert into Jobs(name,Groupid) values ('Task5',2)
Insert into Jobs(name,Groupid) values ('Task6',2)
Insert into Jobs(name,Groupid) values ('Task6',2)
Insert into Jobs(name,Groupid) values ('Task7',3)

-- New tasks

Insert into Jobs(name) values ('TaskA')
Insert into Jobs(name) values ('TaskB')
Insert into Jobs(name) values ('TaskC')
Insert into Jobs(name) values ('TaskD')
Insert into Jobs(name) values ('TaskE')
Insert into Jobs(name) values ('TaskF')

This gives us 6 unassigned tasks and a uneven group assignment

GROUPNAME TASK_COUNT
<none> 6
Group1 4
Group2 3
Group3 2

This means the new tasks will be assigned like this

TaskA - Group3
TaskB - Group3
TaskC - Group2
TaskD - Group1
TaskE - Group2
TaskF - Group3

ANSI_NULLs Settings For Existing Stored Procedures

May 8, 2008

As noted on the msdn the ANSI_NULLS for a stored procedure are set at time off creation (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa259229(SQL.80).aspx).

Using:
- SQL server 2000

My question is; How do i get the details of a sp and display the ANSI_NULLS setting for it.
("select * from information_schema.routines" doesnt shows this information)

Is this possible in SQL 2000 (or 2005)?

Search For String In Stored Procedures

Aug 22, 2001

Ever needed to find a stored procedure with a specific string in it? You can pretty this up as a stored procedure and pass it a parm or cut and paste it into query analyzer.

select name from sysobjects
where id = (select id from syscomments
where text like '%like%')

Edit:

The above works only for a single hit. For multiple hits, this works

select name from sysobjects as A
join syscomments as B
on (text like '%cursor%')
where A.id = B.id

DML Statements In Code Vs. Stored Procedures

Aug 4, 2005

Hi,We're having a big discussion with a customer about where to store the SQL and DML statements. (We're talking about SQL Server 2000)We're convinced that having all statements in the code (data access layer) is a good manner, because all logic is in the "same place" and it's easier to debug. Also you can only have more problems in the deployment if you use the stored procedures. The customer says they want everything in seperate stored procedures because "they always did it that way". What i mean by using seperate stored procedures is:- Creating a stored procedure for each DML operation and for each table (Insert, update or delete)- It should accept a parameter for each column of the table you want to manipulate (delete statement: id only)- The body contains a DML statement that uses the parameters- In code you use the name of the stored procedure instead of the statement, and the parameters remain... (we are using microsoft's enterprise library for data access btw)For select statements they think our approach is best...I know stored procedures are compiled and thus should be faster, but I guess that is not a good argument as it is a for an ASP.NET application and you would not notice any difference in terms of speed anyway. We are not anti-stored-procedures, eg for large operations on a lot of records they probably will be a lot better.Anyone knows what other pro's are related to stored procedures? Or to our way? Please tell me what you think...Thanks

The only way I have found so far would be to either run the stored proc twice (one for each report) or dump the data into temporary tables.

Reusable Blocks Of Code In Stored Procedures

Apr 15, 2008

I have several stored procedures with a similar query. The SELECT clauses are identical, but the FROM and WHERE clauses are different.

Since the SELECT clause is long and complicated (and often changes), I want to place the SELECT clause in a separate file and then have the stored procedures include the block of text for the SELECT clause when they compile.

Is this possible? Looking through the docs and searching online, I don't see any way to do this.

SQL Server 2012 :: Update Table Based On Existing Values In Multiple Rows?

Oct 1, 2015

The objective is to identify orders where an order fee has been applied incorrectly. I have multiple orders per customer, my table contains an orderID and a customerID. Currently if the customer places additional orders before the previous orders have been closed/cancelled, then additional fees are being applied.

Let's say I'm comparing order #1 to order #2. I need to identify these rows where the following is true:-

The CustID is the same.

Order #2 has a more recent order date.

Order #2 has a FeeDate Before the CancelledDate of Order #1 (or Order #1 has no cancellation date).

So in the table the orderID:2835692 of CustID: 24643 has a valid order fee. But all the subsequently placed orders have fees which were applied before the first order was cancelled and so I want to update the FeeInvalid column with a 'Y'. The first fee will always be valid.

I think I understand why the code I am trying doesn't achieve the result I want but I can't figure out how to write it correctly. Below is one example of code I've tried and also code to create the table and insert some test data.

update t1
SET FeeInvalid = 'Y'
FROM MockData t1 Join MockData t2 on t1.CustID = t2.CustID
WHERE t1.CustID = t2.CustID
AND t2.OrderDate > t1.OrderDate
AND t2.FeeDate > t1.CancelledDate

[OrderID] [float] NULL,

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Write Into A Table User-entered Value And Increment That Number N Times As Existing Rows

Jun 25, 2014

I need to have a script where it ask the user for a value, the script will search for all records that match the value. Then it will display the numbers of records found and ask the user to enter a different value. The rest of the script will use this new value and increment by 1 n times as the number of records found. I started the script where it will ask for "HANDLE" and display the number of records found with that "HANDLE"

declare @HANDLE as varchar(30)
declare @COUNT as varchar(10)
declare @STARTINV as varchar(20)

set @HANDLE = ?C --This is the parameter to search for records with this value
set @STARTINV = ?C --User will input the starting invoice number
SELECT COUNT as OrderCount FROM SHIPHIST
where HANDLE = @HANDLE

I just can't figure out how to proceed to use the entered invoice # and increment by 1 until it reach the number of records found.

This will be the end results:

Count=5 --results from query
STARTINV=00010 --Value entered by user

Handle,Inv_Num
AAABBB,00010
AAABBB,00011
AAABBB,00012
AAABBB,00013

T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Varbinary (max) Parameters In Nested Stored Procedures By Value Or Reference

Sep 15, 2014

Consider a situation where a stored procedure taking a varbinary(max) (BLOB) input parameter then calls a nested stored procedure and passes along that varbinary(max) as an input parameter to the nested stored procedure.

Is a copy of the BLOB provided to the nested stored procedure (passed by value) OR is the BLOB passed by reference.

My interest is in understanding the potential memory hit when handling large BLOBs in this environment.

For example, if the BLOB is 200MB, will SQL server need to allocate memory for a new copy each time it's passed to another stored procedure?

Looks like table type parameters are passed by reference, but I haven't been able to find any info on BLOBS in this context.
