T-SQL (SS2K8) :: Select Minimum Date From Related Table
Apr 2, 2014
I am working on a query that seems very simple, but I just cannot seem to get it correct.
I want to be able to select Only 1 MemberAddress with the MIN(MoveDate) for each of the 3 Members. The results would be this:
Joe Smith, 2000-03-10, 1034 Sturgis Road, 115, Portland, Or, 77665
Sally Jones, 2001-01-02, 8970 Pierce Road, 25, Clear Bay, Washington, 96547
Beth Moore, 2006-05-30, 456 W. Blane Ave, NULL, Charleston, West Virgina, 56897
DECLARE @Members TABLE
(
MemberRowID INT IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL
,FirstName VARCHAR(20)
, LastName VARCHAR(20)
[Code]....
I am not opposed to using CTE, I really like them, but I cannot figure this one out. But I will try most anything.

Table definition:
Create table code (
id identity(1,1)
code
parentcode
internalreference)
There are other columns but I have omitted them for clarity.
The clustered index is on the ID.
There are indexes on the code, parentcode and internalreference columns.
The problem is the table stores a parentcode with an internalreference and around 2000 codes which are children of the parentcode. I realise the table is very badly designed, but the company love orms!!
Example:
ID| Code| ParentCode| InternalReference|
1 | M111| NULL | 1|
2 | AAA | M111 | 2|
3 | .... | .... | ....|
4 | AAB | M111 | 2000|
5 | M222 | NULL | 2001|
6 | ZZZ | M222 | 2002|
7 | .... | .... | .... |
8 | ZZA | M222 | 4000|
The table currently holds around 300 millions rows.
The application does the following two queries to find the first internalreference of a code and the last internal refernce of a code:
--Find first internalrefernce
SELECT TOP 1 ID, InternalReference
FROM code
WHERE ParentCode = 'M222'
Order By InternalReference
-- Find last ineternalreference
SELECT TOP 1 ID, InternalReference
FROM code
WHERE ParentCode = 'M222'
Order By InternalReference DESC
These queries are running for a very long time, only because of the sort. If I run the query without the sort, then they return the results instantly, but obviously this doesn't find the first and last internalreference for a parentCode.
I realize the best way to fix this is to redesign the table, but I cannot do that at this time.
Is there a better way to do this so that two queries which individually run very slowly, can be combined into one that is more efficient?

I want to update the STATUS column based on min date in my table.
For example – If minimum BOOKING_DATE of any RecieptID is below to 2015-10-01, then Status of that RecieptID should be 0 for all records pertaining to dedicated RecieptID So I need an output in this way.

I have around 3 tables having around 20 to 30gb of data. My table A related to table B by a FK and same way table B related to table C by FK. I would like to delete all rows satisfying certain condition from table A and all corresponding related records from table B and C. I have created a query to delete the grandchild first, followed by child table and finally parent. I have used inner join in my delete query. As you all know, inner join delete operations, are going to be extremely resource Intensive especially on bigger tables.
What is the best approach to delete all these rows? There are many constraints, triggers on these tables. Also, there might be some FK relations to other tables as well.

I am having a problem in creating query for this exciting scenario.
Table A
ID ItemQtyCreatedDatetime
W001 CB112014-06-03 20:30:48.000
W002 CB112014-06-04 01:30:48.000
Table B
IDItemQtyCreatedDatetime
A001 CB112014-06-03 19:05:48.000
A002 CB112014-06-03 20:05:48.000
A003 CB112014-06-03 21:05:48.000
A004 CB112014-06-04 01:05:48.000
A005 CB112014-06-04 02:05:48.000
I would like to return the nearest date of Table B in my table like for
ID W001 in table B should return ID A002 CreatedDatetime: 2014-06-03 20:05:48.000
ID W002 in table B should return ID A004 CreatedDatetime: 2014-06-04 01:05:48.000

OK heres the situation, I have a Categories table and a Products table, each Category can have one or many Products, but a product can only belong to one Category hence one-to-many relationship.
Now I want to do a SELECT query that outputs all of the Categories onto an ASP page, but also displays how many Products are in each category eg.
CatID | Name | Description | No. Products
0001 | Cars | Blah blah blah | 5
etc etc
At the moment I'm doing nesting in my application logic so that for each category that is displayed, another query is run that returns the number of products for that particular category. It works ok!
However, is there a way to write a SQL Statement that returns all the Categories AND number products from just the one SELECT statement, rather than with the method I'm using outlined above? The reason I'm asking is that I want to be able to order by the number of products for each category and my method doesn't allow me to do this.
Many thanks!

Hi thanks for looking at my question
Using sqlServer management studio 2005
My Tables are something like this:
--Table 1 "Employee"
CREATE TABLE [MyCompany].[Employee](
[EmployeeGID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[BranchFID] [int] NOT NULL,
[FirstName] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[MiddleName] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[LastName] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT [PK_Employee] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
[EmployeeGID]
)
GO
ALTER TABLE [MyCompany].[Employee]
WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_Employee_BranchFID]
FOREIGN KEY([BranchFID])
REFERENCES [myCompany].[Branch] ([BranchGID])
GO
ALTER TABLE [MyCompany].[Employee] CHECK CONSTRAINT [FK_Employee_BranchFID]
-- Table 2 "Branch"
CREATE TABLE [Mycompany].[Branch](
[BranchGID] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL,
[BranchName] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[City] [varchar](50) NOT NULL,
[ManagerFID] [int] NOT NULL,
CONSTRAINT [PK_Branch] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
[BranchGID]
)
GO
ALTER TABLE [MyCompany].[Branch]
WITH CHECK ADD CONSTRAINT [FK_Branch_ManagerFID]
FOREIGN KEY([ManagerFID])
REFERENCES [MyCompany].[Employee] ([EmployeeGID])
GO
ALTER TABLE [MyCompany].[Branch]
CHECK CONSTRAINT [FK_Branch_ManagerFID]
--Foreign IDs = FID
--generated IDs = GID
Then I try a simple single row DELETE
DELETE FROM MyCompany.Employee
WHERE EmployeeGID= 39
Well this might look like a very basic error:
I get this Error after trying to delete something from Table €œEmployee€?
The DELETE statement conflicted with the
REFERENCE constraint "FK_Branch_ManagerFID".
The conflict occurred in database "MyDatabase",
table "myCompany.Branch", column 'ManagerFID'.
Yes what I€™ve been doing is to deactivate the foreign key constraint, in both tables when performing these kinds of operations, same thing if I try to delete a €œBranch€? entry, basically each entry in €œbranch€? and €œEmployee€? is child of each other which makes things more complicated.
My question is, is there a simple way to overcome this obstacle without having to deactivate the foreign key constraints every time or a good way to prevent this from happening in the first place? Is this when I have to use €œON DELETE CASCADE€? or something?
Thanks

I have an Orders table which has the following fields:
OrderID (PK, int, auto increment, not null)
CustomerID (FK, int, null)
PaymentDate (datetime, null)
UserID (uniqueidentifier)
(and other irrelevant fields)
Basically, for a specific PaymentDate range (29th July 2014 - 26th August 2014, inclusive) I want to select all orders where they only appear once in the orders table based on the CustomerID, so I only want to know about them if they have a paid order (decided by PaymentDate not being null) in that date range, but also taking into account if they have ever had a paid order outside of that date range. I'll also be joining on to the aspnet_Users table to get the username assigned to that order.

This seems simple enough but for some reason, my brain isn't working.
I have a lookup table:
Table A: basically dates every 30 days
1/1/2014
2/3/2014
3/3/2014
4/3/2014
I have Table b that has records and dates created assocated with each record
I want all records that fall between the 1st 30 days to have an additional column that indicates 30
union
records with additional column indicating 60 days that fall between the 30 and 60 day
union
records with additional column indicating 90days that fall between the 60 and 90 day mark.
Is there an easy way to do this?

I'm looking at the following Records:
cust_no item_no start_dt end_dt price
1060 2931 2011-02-06 9999-12-31 1.23
1060 2931 2011-04-18 9999-12-31 2.00
I want to be able to pull the records with the earliest date 2011-02-06 ...
There were other records with this same customer and item number. I used this script to return the two above.
select *
from price
where end_dt > getdate()
Now I need to add something so it only returns the record with the earliest date. I'm going to run this on a table that has many customer and item combinations.

I have a Transactional table containing IDs that relate to each other. The table highlights the transactions that move one ID to another, by storing an ID and a IDNew (Basically from ID to ID).
My requirement is to create a Inline Table Valued Function that will efficiently return a single ID column to show all related IDs by looking at the ID and the IDNew fields.
I need to pass in a single ID to get all relations or a list of IDs through xml.
I have managed to achieve this by making use of two recursive cte's and then combining the results with union statements to create a distinct list of values.
IF OBJECT_ID (N'tempdb..#Trans', N'U') IS NOT NULL
BEGIN
DROP TABLE #Trans
END

I want to find previous date from selected date. below is the sample data.
DECLARE @StartDate SMALLDATETIME = '1/11/2016'
declare @tempdat table(repdate smalldatetime)
insert into @tempdat values ('10/26/2015')
insert into @tempdat values ('10/29/2015')
insert into @tempdat values ('11/1/2015')
insert into @tempdat values ('11/27/2015')
insert into @tempdat values ('11/25/2015')
insert into @tempdat values ('11/20/2015')
insert into @tempdat values ('11/10/2015')
insert into @tempdat values ('11/10/2015')
insert into @tempdat values ('11/11/2015')
insert into @tempdat values ('11/11/2015')
Now if i pass the date '10/26/2015' then i want select prev date of passed date. in this example no prev date is available, so result set would be nothing.
if i pass the date '11/10/2015' then result should be '11/1/2015' which is prev small date available in table.

Is this not working because GETDATE() is like a timestamp format? How can I get this to work to return those rows where [EODPosting].[MatchDate] is equal to today's date?

[Code] ....
This is the output I get :
PQPageId Date HOUR MINCOUNT
-------- ---------- ---- --------
1 04-11-2015 8 2359
1 05-11-2015 8 2332
1 06-11-2015 8 2008
1 07-11-2015 8 1964
1 08-11-2015 8 2139
1 09-11-2015 8 54

But I am expecting
PQPageId Date HOUR MINCOUNT

1 09-11-2015 8 54
1 11-11-2015 9 10
1 11-11-2015 10 4
2 11-11-2015 8 10
2 11-11-2015 9 2
2 11-11-2015 10 1
For ex: Pqpageid 1, at 8am on date 4-11-2015 has a count of 2359 and on 9-11-2015 at 8 am it has count 54then it should return date 9-11-2015 and count 54 for hour 8 like wise for every pageid and hour from 8 to 23 it should return the min count from given date of range.

I built a query that brings in 'Discounts' (bolded) to the Order detail by using the bolded syntax below. I started off by running the query without the bolded lines and got exactly what I was looking for but without the ‘Discount’ column. When I tried to add the ‘Discount’ into the query, it duplicated several order lines. Although total ‘Discount’ column ties out to the total amount expected in that column, ‘Total Charges’ are now several times higher than before.
For example, I get 75 records when I run without the bolded syntax and I get several hundred results back when adding back in the bolded syntax when i should still be getting 75 records, just with an additional column ‘PTL Discount’ subtotaled. My question is, how to I introduce a new select or join from another table without duplicating the original data?

To extract the albums something like this works: SELECT * FROM [albums] ORDER BY [albumTitle]
To count the images in a sertain album this works: SELECT COUNT(*) AS imagesCount WHERE [albumId] = ...the albumId from the album-select
And to retrieve a random imagePath this works fine: SELECT TOP 1 [imagePath] FROM [images] WHERE [imageId] = NEWID()
-But how do i combine them so that i can retrieve the data in one request? Suppose theres going to be some JOIN and group but i cant figure it out. Please help me out.

2 tables, one is a supplier list (id, supplier_name) and the other is an order list (id, order_name, supplier_id... etc)
basically i need to join the 2 tables together (id=supplier_id) but i need to display the results without the supplier_id and the supplier table id, only the supplier name?
do i have select only the specific fields I want? or can I exclude the supplier_id and the id from the supplier table?

Hello, everyone!
Please give your ideas about how to create a query from two tables, which have many-to-many relationship. For example, we have table Book and table Author and consider, that one author had wroten several books and one book had being wroten by several authors. So we have many-to-many relationship of these two tables.
Usually this sutuation resolves by maens of creating the third table AuthorBook, which consist of key fields from the Author table and key fields from the Book table. So that the Author table is the parent table to AuthorBook, and the Book table is the parent table to AuthorBook. So we have two relations one-to-many. Now the question is how to get all related values from both tables, using JOIN operation and the conjunctive table?
I would greatly appreciate any answers

Hi the subject matter pretty much sums up what i need, a piece of sql code that queries 3 or more tables and selects only those records that have a date field that only occurs in one of the tables. So for example if one table has 20 records with a date of 12/12/04 and the other 2 tables do not have any records with a date of 12/12/04 then i only want to select those records with a date of 12/12/04.

What we want to do is when a date is loaded is that thisfunction insert a minimum date when date < minimum date and a maximumdate when date > maximum date.Yes i know you're thinking : This is datamanipulation and yes this istrue. But now we loose information in our cubes and reports by innerjoining. So if we can use a minimum and a maximum than a user wouldsay: "This is strange, a lot of values on 1980/1/1!" instead of "Ithink that i have not all the data!"GreetzHennie

So if we can use a minimum and a maximum than a user wouldsay: "This is strange, a lot of values on 1980/1/1!" instead of "Ithink that i have not all the data!"GreetzHenniePlaats een reactie op dit berichtBericht 2 van deze discussieVan:John Bell (jbellnewsposts@hotmail.com)Onderwerp:Re: Intensively used function in view needs a minimum andmaximum from a tableView this article onlyDiscussies:comp.databases.ms-sqlserverDatum:2004-12-30 03:56:25 PSTHiIf you LEFT or RIGHT JOIN to the calendar table you will get a NULLvaluefor the column, you can then is CASE to determine the valueCREATE FUNCTION ConvertDate (@datevalue datetime)RETURNS INTASBEGINDECLARE @dateint INTSELECT @dateint = CAST( CASE WHEN A.Date < '20030101' THEN '19800101'WHEN A.Date > '20051231' THEN '99991231'ELSE CONVERT(CHAR(4),C.[Year]) + RIGHT('0'+CONVERT(VARCHAR(2),C.[Month]),2) + RIGHT('0'+CONVERT(VARCHAR(2),C.[Day]),2)END AS INT )FROM ( SELECT @datevalue AS [Date] ) ALEFT JOIN CALENDAR C ON C.[Date] = A.[Date]RETURN @dateintENDGOJohn"Hennie de Nooijer" <hdenooijer@hotmail.com> wrote in messagenews:191115aa.0412300238.7dee0f85@posting.google.c om...[color=blue]>I have a problem (who not?) with a function which i'm using in a[/color]view.[color=blue]> This function is a function which calculates a integer value of a> date. If so, you might wanttotry the following alternative (using CURRENT_TIMESTAMP as example;replaceit with your date column / parameter):SELECT CAST(CONVERT(varchar, CURRENT_TIMESTAMP, 112) AS int)You could put this in the UDF (probably at least as fast as yourcurrentCalenmdar-table based function), or use it inline as a replacement tothefunction call (probably even faster). It should work for all dates from Jan 1st 1753 through Dec 31st 9999.Best, Hugo--(Remove _NO_ and _SPAM_ to get my e-mail address)

May I know how to use a "date" to select out previous 14 days record from the table? and find the duplicated records?
-- sort out duplicate order from tblOrder
Select * FROM tblOrder
WHERE DDay > @prmDDay("day", -14, getDate())
Group by DDay
Many thanks~~~~~
